Easy to follow and install this chip. Real nice that it comes with the heatsink and doesn't require a separate purchase for that (like we had to for our other PS5 last year). No issues at all and works just as expected. Definitely like this internal storage with this vs a dangling external USB drive.

After rebooting got constant blue screens booting Windows 11. Tried several steps and came to the conclusion it needs a fresh install. Windows 11 couldn't even partition or format the drive. Used a utility and wiped to factory, still couldn't install. Put my old drive back in, it was wiped in the process of migrating. Not attempting another Samsung drive for a long time.

Games crashing

I ended up reformatting and starting it fresh but once again it crashes..

Caused PS5 to Crash

After that, it would randomly cause the entiee PS5 to shut down and would not turn back on until the power cable was completely unplugged and plugged back in. After purchasing a different brand, the issue never happened again.

Give yourself over 100% additional storage that comes internally with the PS5. With games these days taking an average of 50 GB of space with some games well over 100GB, the original storage space of the PS5 will go go very far. External storage options only allow for PS4 games to be played directly off the storage. This Samsung - 980 PRO allows you to download games directly on the storage and play directly off the storage seamlessly. The 5,000 mb/s write speed is fast. With the limitations of my internet speed, I was able to complete a full install of a 52 GB game in about 32 mins. Playback has been seamless. Installation is simple an is plug and play depending on any firmware updates needed. There are videos on how to safely remove the PS5 cover and a couple screws for the installation. If you need to perform a firmware update on the SSD, you will need to install on your home PC in a compatible slot if your motherboard is new enough to have one. There are cheap adapters that can be used to be able to update the firmware through USB, fortunately for me, the ssd unit I received was up to date on firmware. Definitely recommend this item for PS5 storage.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink 1TB PCIe Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe 1.3c Internal Gaming SSD M.2 for Laptops and Desktops is a reasonably future proof SSD upgrade. It is FAST and at a minimum increased the transfer rate on my Gen 3.0 buss by about 20% for both read and write speeds. The best part in addition to increased transfer rates is the mitigation (and in my case the elimination) of throttling (due to the HEAT SINK) combined with a reduction in internal case temperature compared to my Samsung (MZ-V7S1T0B/AM) 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid-State Drive with V-NAND Technology. The Samsung wizard shows even more impressive results. With the dramatic increase in buss speed, I expect to be very happy for 3 plus years. I will probably go with 2T or more for increased storage. I find it to be great for intense gaming and for video rendering. I also used it successfully in an external Thunderbolt 3 case on a MAC! NICE!

Super fast PCIe Gen 4 SSD w/ heat protection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink is a great Gen 4 SSD for anyone looking to boost their storage capacity and speed. This SSD is able to run cool longer thanks to the attached heatsink which allows you to transfer large files fast for longer than similar SSDs without an attached heatsink. One thing to keep in mind is that the heatsink may or may not fit depending on your motherboard so you may want to check the clearance in your computer or device prior to purchasing this version of the Samsung 980. Samsung does have another version of the 980 Pro without the heatsink that you may want to look at if your M.2 slot is cramped for space. According to Samsung's website, this version of the 980 Pro with heatsink will fit inside of the PS5 so if that is your intended use then there should be no worries.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this in order to replace my 256GB SSD M.2 drive my Dell XPS PC came with about 3 years ago now. I simply was running out of space on the drive. I only have one slot on my motherboard for a drive like this, so I did have to buy an external enclosure as part of my migration process. I read the manual and saw that Samsung has their own 'Samsung Magician' software that is supposed to help in this regard. Regardless of any point in my migration process, I have not been able to get that to recognize the new drive. It sees it, registers the space correctly, but doesn't think it's a supported drive (even after being installed). I essentially had to give up on trying to use it or their Data Migration tool due to this. Instead I downloaded and use the free version of Macrium, which easily cloned my old drive to the new over USB. That process took about 30 min. I swapped the drives without issue. I thought the heat sink may be too tall, but it just fit behind my video card. I booted the machine up and was good to go (your mileage may vary - I did have to do some tweaking to take advantage of the new space). The hardware itself seems to be well built, and with the heat sink I expect to have no issues in regard to heat (my old one didn't have a heatsink at all). I wish I had run a speed test before the replacement, but using CrystalDiskMark I can tell you the new drive performs 3-7x faster than my SATA SSDs I am running for both read/write. Assuming your technically savvy enough to replace your existing drive with this one, I recommend doing so.

Tested in a desktop and PS5 with heatsink attached and in a laptop with heatsink removed. No issues with any of the configurations. Long time fan of Samsung SSDs and they did not disappoint with this NVMe. I can understand some people's disappointment with the change to TLC chips but I don't see this being an issue for the majority of consumers.

The performance on this thing is fast while keeping the drive cool when using the heatsink. I highly recommend the Samsung 980 Pro with the Heatsink model for the best results.
