I am writing this review for the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge. I have had the Galaxy Book4 Edge for about a week now. I have done my best to test it to its limits and have had some rather interesting results. But let me start at the beginning. Out of the box, I noticed how solid it felt. This model comes with a 16” screen, and is not cumbersome in its weight, but it is substantial. Holding it in your hands, it feels like pure quality. It is well designed and very well made. It is sleek and thin and has quite the wow-factor when looking at it. I happen to have the sapphire blue version, and it is beautiful! As I opened it up, I was taken aback by the size of the keyboard. I don’t want to call it “huge,” but it is! It’s wonderful. It was obvious I wasn’t going to have to scrunch my hands together when using this laptop! And the touchpad is the biggest I have ever seen on a laptop. Samsung did not rush through the research, design and thought processes when it came to this laptop! In looks, feel and design, it gets 20+ plus stars out of 5! Yes, I said 20+… it’s that good! Also out of the box, it had no charge at all on the battery, so it was necessary to charge it before using it. Thankfully there is an included USB cable. So I plugged it in and let it charge overnight. As I went through the setup process, about the only thing I can say is that the setup was super easy and simple. Just a very straightforward and traditional setup. I do want to mention that Microsoft has included the option to copy all the settings and apps from a different computer. That is, you can basically transfer everything from one of your other computers. I was a bit hesitant to do this, but afterward I was quite happy that I did because everything was so familiar. Although it included icons for all the installed programs from my other laptop, it did not automatically install them. I fully understand this because of possible compatibility issues, etc. It is difficult in today’s world of computers to stay on top of all the many different processors being used. The Galaxy Book4 Edge in this case utilized the Snapdragon X1E-84-100 processor which also includes the Adreno X1-85 GPU. This means this laptop does not have a discrete (separate) graphics card. Although for most purposes the Adreno functions just fine, it is still considered an entry-level graphics processor. In other words, it will handle most older games just fine, it will not perform well when using intense graphics games, or professional level video editing programs. Because I use gaming consoles, this isn’t an issue, but I do use DaVinci Resolve. I was concerned about how well it would hold up when using it. I found I had no issues whatsoever. And although I do not consider myself a professional in respect to video editing, I do know how to get around very well, especially in the Resolve arena. Even while using several different layers including audio, I was absolutely happy with the Book4’s performance. I experienced no lags or pixelation. As far as my own personal gaming experience went when testing out the Book4, I found (like I mentioned above) that the laptop handled most of the older games just fine. I installed one higher-end game and found that there was pixelation from the get-go, and the game froze up every time. I wasn’t disappointed by this because Samsung makes it clear that this particular laptop is not designed for such gaming. But I still had hope that it just might be okay in spite of what Samsung said. As I moved on to further exploration of the Book4, I checked out the live video filters. There are several to choose from and utilize simultaneously… Background Blur, Portrait Blur (this is similar to the Background Blur, but focuses mainly on the area around the face. Eye Contact, which ensures your eyes always appear focused on the camera, and Creative Filters that allow the user to apply special effects to the camera such as Illustrated, Animated, and Watercolor. This means that while you are streaming live you can make the video appear as an illustrated drawing, and animated cartoon, and even a watercolor painting. These work best in well-lit environments. In a darkened room I found that the filters had difficulty in processing effectively. I was a bit perplexed in regard to how to access these filters. I had to actually open up the Settings menu and manipulate the settings from there instead of in the on-screen camera window. This meant going back and forth, back and forth. Rather tedious. Let me highlight my experience with the AI assistant, “CoPilot.” Although Samsung utilizes AI technology deep within its processing unit, Microsoft almost ruins the whole experience with its version of the AI assistant. I found it to be shallow and unbelievably sensitive to perceived criticism of any sort. When asking questions about CoPilot+ and explaining what information I was looking for, I was told at least three times that “I’m sorry for any misunderstandings….” and then the conversation was abruptly terminated. Even asking simple questions such as, “How can I change the AI voice in CoPilot?” turned out to be an exercise in patience. The stock voice is a female voice that to me was grating and irritating. I simply wanted to know how to change it. Again I was told how apologetic CoPilot was, and that perhaps it was time to move on to another subject. I mention this only to point out that on such a remarkable laptop such as the Galaxy Book4 Edge, this is utterly out of synch. Microsoft has a long way to go when it comes to AI assistants. As I mentioned before, the keyboard is wonderfully large. It is truly a full-sized keyboard with a huge touchpad AND a separate number pad! Being a 16” laptop though, I guess that’s really to be expected. But it is a real plus in my book. Another HUGE plus is the real-time Live Captions function which converts spoken words in both video and audio formats into your choice of over 40 languages. Wanting to try it out, I went to YouTube and searched for news programming in German. After activating Live Captions, I played the German newscast. And to my happy surprise, the captions were translated into English. Working in the opposite direction, I played English newscasts with the translation set to German. Again it performed wonderfully! I can see whole new worlds of discovery being opened up with this key function alone. What a brilliant and useful idea! In order to not write an entire book on the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge, I will end by saying there are not many products I review that I get truly excited about. This is one of the exceptions! It’s aesthetically beautiful, EXTREMELY WELL MADE, fast, and boasts an entire library of built in functionality. Yes, it does have the one woeful distraction of the AI assistant, but hopefully in the future, Microsoft will come up with an assistant that isn’t extremist in non-offendability. The live video filters are refreshingly unique, and the live captions are in a class all their own. In a very short time, the Galaxy Book4 Edge has become a laptop I actually look forward to using, and you can bet it is now my go-to device. If you are looking for the next generation of AI-integrated workhorses, this is the one. You can be certain I will be telling all my friends and family about the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge!

The Samsung Galaxy Book Edge 4 is one of the first Windows laptops with the new Snapdragon X Elite ARM based processors. Previous attempts at Windows laptops with anything other than x86 processors never faired well but Microsoft has been putting in the effort to provide a native experience for both ARM and x86 now in Windows 11. The ARM side does still have a way to go but luckily there are more native apps than ever with more companies developing for the platform thanks to the hype around the Elite X performance. This is the first processor capable of running Microsoft CoPilot+ AI integrations, so there are a lot of possibilities and a lot of potential for issues too. These Snapdragon Elite based laptops are being hyped as the first step towards Windows laptops finally competing with Apple hardware, particularly in battery life. I went with the 16” model and aesthetically it’s one of the nicest looking laptops I’ve ever had. The form factor is incredibly thin and light. Build quality feels premium with mostly aluminum construction barring a few plastic bits, considering how thin it is there isn’t much flex. Monitor hinge feels good in terms of tightness, the monitor doesn’t move under its own weight easily, and can be opened with one hand. They call the color Sapphire Blue, and it looks fantastic in my opinion. It also features one of the best-looking screens I’ve ever used on a laptop. The 16” 3K resolution AMOLED variable refresh rate screen is amazing both in terms of display quality as well as its ability to sip power. This is more akin to the type of screen on your cell phone instead of a traditional computer monitor. Samsung has an amazing anti-glare coating on the glossy OLED finish but still something to consider if you work outdoors or in extremely bright environments. The Keyboard is very good, a nice tactile feel to the keys and being a 16” laptop it offers a full-size keyboard including number pad. Now the trackpad they went with on this laptop is something some people will love, and some people won’t. It is massive, takes up probably 50% of the area at the bottom of the keyboard. Functionalities wise I enjoy it, although I do sometime brush against it accidentally while using or typing. It is a traditional trackpad, so you must click in the bottom left or bottom right corner for it to reliably register your input. The model I went with has the higher performance X1E-84-100 Snapdragon X Elite processor which has slightly higher multithreaded frequency and higher dual core boost clock than the one featured in the 14” model or non 1TB 16”. It also features a big jump on the GPU side, the NPU for AI processing is the same between models. Rounding out the spec sheet is 16gb of LPDDR5 and 1TB of eUFS storage. The eUFS storage is a low power storage option kind of like eMMC memory but offers faster read and write speeds, using CrystalDiskMark I got 3600MB/s read and 600MB/s write speeds. Running Cinebench 2024 new Windows ARM based benchmark with my Book4 Edge plugged in showed the Elite X at 126 single core and 847 multi-core which is better than a standard M3 typically. Now of course the M3 Max still has a dominant lead, but this is a great first showing for these new ARM based Windows products. Overall, all the apps I typically use have ran smoothly, even those that I have had to run through Microsoft Prism emulation. They also delivered on their battery life claims, which can vary of course depending on the applications being used. Applications that are emulated will take more battery life away compared to those that are native. Probably the easiest way to share the battery life available is just watching YouTube which my Book4 Edge was able to do for about 13 1/2hrs straight before needing a charge. Thanks to the NPU that is built-in to the new Snapdragon X Elite processors these are the first that have achieved the CoPilot+ certification. Some of these new features are useful like the enhanced Windows studio effects for when you’re using your webcam. I think the webcam has excellent quality and the studio effects allow for you to have a professional, or fun using the creative filters, presentation to your video calls. Things like portrait blur and an eye contact teleprompter help keep you on point. Another huge feature is the real time live captions and translations. This is all done locally on the NPU so it can be used anytime on any application. Those who travel frequently, work internationally, or just enjoy content from other countries can benefit from this feature. Overall, I went into this skeptical of both Qualcomm’s ability to deliver the performance claims they were making on a first-generation chip as well as Microsoft’s ability to deliver a good experience and I am happy to be proven wrong. This is a great laptop to consider for anyone looking for the latest and greatest AI experience and capabilities, especially if you are already integrated into the Samsung ecosystem.

I wasn't sure what to expect with a Windows laptop using the Snapdragon CPU. All PCs I've ever used have been x86 based. I am very impressed by what I have seen with this laptop. First impression after opening the box. It's barely larger than the largest iPad, and has a full attached keyboard. It's quite light, but doesn't feel flimsy. After I powered it up and completed the Windows setup, I was immediately impressed with the image quality of the screen. Bright, bold colors that are easily visible in a well lit room. I would love to swap this with my work laptop, as it's so much lighter but easy to use. I typically don't care for touchscreens on anything other than a tablet or phone, much preferring to use a mouse or even touchpad. That said, this appears to be quite accurate to the touch and I didn't have any issues touching where I was trying to. This is one of the new Copilot+ computers. I really didn't know what that offered, so after I had played with it for a bit I looked up exactly what that is. Basically, Copilot is an AI function that can be used for enhanced searching, artistic design and creation, and some other features. There are many AI functions available on the web, but Copilot does all the processing completely within the PC itself and the data is not sent to and processed in the "cloud". Hardware-wise, this means the computer must have a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that is capable of 40 trillion operations per second. Think about that level of processing power, and then look at the compact size and weight of this laptop. It's mind-boggling when you consider what computer processing power was even just 20 years ago. I am not an artist, nor do I create content for books, papers, or other such things. Copilot could be a huge thing for people that do those sorts of things. I did try using it in Paint. I used my finger to draw a very crude outline of a car, and told Copilot I wanted it to look like a blue 1963 Dodge Dart GT. It fleshed out a good representation of a blue car from that era, but it certainly didn't look like the car my Mom had back then. But I'm certain that with a better artist than myself and some quality time using Copilot it could create some excellent work. I did try the Live Captions function on some YouTube videos, and it did as good if not better than some other AI generated captions I've encountered using YouTube's built-in caption tool If I can fault anything, it's the lack of external ports available. There is an HDMI 2.1 output, two USB-C ports (one needs to be used for power/charging), one USB-A port, a micro-SD slot, and a headphone/mic combo jack. There is no Ethernet port, Display Port, or any other sort of connection available. Of course, you could use some sort of USB-C docking station that could provide additional connections. The display is higher resolution than full HD, but not 4K. Samsung calls it a 3K display, and as I mentioned it looks terrific. I have been using a Alienware (Dell) laptop as my primary general use PC when I'm in the family room. This Samsung is going to replace it. The screen is almost as large, the resolution is higher, the image is better, and it's just as fast without the heavy weight sitting on my lap.

I've really been enjoying this Samsung Galaxy Book with CoPilot+. The build quality is outstanding, with a premium feel, beautiful screen with minimal bezels, a thoughtful keyboard layout with a standalone number pad and backlighting, and the dedicated CoPilot button. You get 2 USB C ports, one HDMI, one USB A, a headphone jack and a micro sd card reader. The bottom edges curve in to provide a nice gap for the speakers, which are good quality for a laptop, but for most media consumption you'll probably want headphones or earbuds. Teams calls were clear and I have had no issues with slowdowns or the computer heating up. The Snapdragon processor is doing a great job handling any task I have thrown at this laptop. Granted, I'm not doing heavy gaming that might push it, but for everyday use and watching videos while multi-tasking, it's been keeping up. CoPilot+ is built in with a dedicated key on the keyboard. It's a lot of fun and useful for everyday tasks. You can ask it to write a song or letter based on a topic, ask it to draw a picture, start drawing a picture and have it create something, etc. And the live captions feature is incredible! It's like closed captions for real life when on Teams calls or watching videos. I included a few photos. I asked it to draw a picture of a golden retriever at the beach. Then I asked it to re-imagine that as a watercolor/cartoon. It's a really cool feature with lots of applications outside of making pictures. On the productivity side, you can ask it to streamline your resume or write an email. Yes you'll need to check it and maybe make some edits, but it's impressive. Overall, this is my new daily driver laptop. It is extremely slim, built well, looks great and does everything I need and more. I love the built in CoPilot+ features and am excited for future updates and feature enhancements. I would recommend this to anyone outside of someone that wants a pure gaming rig. For business or everyday use, this is fantastic.

I was very excited to receive this laptop. Once I received it, I got straight to testing it, seeing if ARM really is that different from x86, if the battery life is better, and testing all of the other claims I've heard about it. Here are my thoughts on this laptop: Firstly, let's talk about ARM vs x86. Microsoft has a compatibility layer that can (theoretically) emulate (most) x86-based apps on ARM without any issues. I have to say, I am impressed, although it can better. I was able to download every app that I use on my x86-based PC. The only app I had performance issues with was Discord. It lags a lot and sometimes takes a few seconds to switch between channels and servers, but it's not really a big issue; I can use the web version if needed. Secondly, the battery life is great. The "remaining time" estimate isn't very accurate though. It often switches between saying "2 hours and 30 minutes remaining" to "10 hours remaining" to "14 hours remaining" and then back down to 2 hours. In practice, however, the battery life is outstanding. I haven't got it down to zero yet, but after a moderate day's use, I got it down to about 60%. I would say that's decent, definitely much better than most x86-based laptops. Lastly, the AI features aren't very useful. Copilot is just another ChatGPT or Google Bard. The live captions are decent but can definitely be better. The studio effects are also another nice feature, but the eyecontact feature isn't very accurate. In conclusion, if you're looking for a fast laptop with good battery life, this laptop is for you.

Top of the line notebook my wife and I each pre-ordered. We use S24 Ultra phones and love them, so figured it would be a nice progression. Not even a year into owning the laptop, over 40 phone representatives, over a dozen emails, many hours into getting her unit repaired...to no avail. Nobody knows anything when you call for customer service. You get transferred multiple times and if it doesn't disconnect, you get a promise someone will call you back. At this rate, we will be switching to the fruit brand. And that hurts my heart.
