One of the best phones I've ever had

I'm one who has always liked to tinker. I'd always opt for a phone that I could root and play with. My previous phone being a 3-year-old Nexus 6P, it was time for something new. I wasn't impressed with the current Pixels and decided to take a chance on the Note 9 knowing full well that there would likely never be a root method available for it. The specs and reviews won me over, and the blue color is pretty sweet. So far, it's been a few days with it as my daily driver, and I don't think I'll miss my tinkering days at all (well maybe a little). This thing is simply amazing. The screen is bright and clear, though the curved edges are somewhat weird to me. The OS is buttery smooth and fast. I am missing Android Pie, but I'm sure it'll be coming for this device soon. The fact that it's one of the only flagships without a screen notch, stereo speakers and includes a headphone jack is a winner, but it also includes some really nice earbuds besides, which was a bonus. Wireless charging is something I thought was a fad of the past, but it's back now and extremely convenient. Dusted off my old Qi wireless charger that I had for a motorola phone a few years ago and it works great. I am not fond of all of the Samsung bloatware that comes on this, being used to a stock android experience, but getting over it pretty quick. It really is a great experience. However, this is the sole reason it loses a star in the review. There's just too much "Samsung" that can't be disabled when it's not really necessary. So far, haven't used the active S Pen too much as I'm not really a stylus guy, but it is a pretty neat feature, especially with the button that can remotely activate the camera or whatever other apps you want it to. Regarding the size. Coming from a Nexus 6P with a 5.7" screen, I was expecting the Note with a 6.4" screen to be physically bigger. I was shocked to find that it is approximately the same physical size. No problem with one-handed reach. The fingerprint scanner is placed a bit high on the back, in my opinion, but that's likely just something to get used to. I find myself searching for it to unlock the device. Face unlock doesn't seem to work well for me, despite every review showing how great it is. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong. :) I have not done much with the camera yet, but so far photos are clear and detailed. Battery seems to be pretty good, but haven't yet tested it out thoroughly. I'll update the review if I'm able once I have more detail there.

Best battery life I've ever had on a phone

The battery life on this phone is amazing. I switched back to Android from my iPhone 6S Plus and immediately noticed a difference. I can go through the entire day of mild to heavy use without worrying about having to charge it midway through. Not to mention with USB Type C if you leave it on the charger for only 30 minutes it gives you a considerable amount of battery life. Another great thing about this phone is the storage on this phone. I went for the 128GB model, but there's also a micro SD card slot where the simcard tray is that allows you to upgrade the storage up to a terabyte. The phone takes a bit of practice to get used to the new tricks with both the S-Pen and the OS itself. I wasn't sold on the S-Pen before I bought the phone as every smart phone I've had prior to this never came with a pen, but you'll find that there's a lot of clever ways the S-Pen comes into play whether you use it to take pictures, write notes, send live messages to friends, you can even customize apps the S-Pen will work for, though I have found that some apps are buggy or unresponsive with the S-Pen. Spotify in particular says you can click the button on the pen once to play/pause and twice to switch to the next song, but regardless of how many times you press it doesn't seem to work. Overall this phone is a workhorse for those who are heavy users of their phone.

Love the stylus... still getting used to the size

This is a great phone in terms of build quality, speed, screen and camera quality, etc... it's exactly what many of us like about high-end Samsung phones and what makes them well worth the premium price. Yeah, some of the Samsung software can be annoying, but some of it is helpful, and what you don't want to use, just don't use. I've been a Galaxy user for many years and will keep coming back for more as long as Samsung keeps giving us such great products. This is my first Galaxy Note, and what swayed me to go that direction is the idea of having a stylus for note taking in work meetings. After using it for a couple of weeks now I can say that the stylus is well worth it. I have far fewer sticky notes and random pieces of paper scattered around, and instead have easy access to all that information in my phone. (I use Evernote because I've been using it for years, but the Samsung note app is really nice and is something I'm considering adopting... other apps like Google Keep are okay too.) The only real complaint I have about the Note is the size. Yeah, I know, why buy a phone you know darned well is the size it is, if you don't want a phone that big? It was a gamble, hoping that the benefits of the stylus would outweigh the annoyance of having a tablet in my pocket. I think the stylus and all the convenience it brings are winning out, but if you are considering this phone, be sure you really want to carry around that much bulk on a day to day basis. I'm really looking forward to a foldable Galaxy Note someday in the future!

I had a Note 3 and loved it so much, I kept it going for 5 years. Eventually, it was time to upgrade, so I went for the latest, the Note 9. There are a few things I don't like about it, such as: 1. Can't change it batteries like I could with my old Note 3, though it shows gold a charge pretty well, and it definitely charges up much faster. 2. I don't know why on earth Samsung took voice control off the alarm clock. I really liked being able to simply say, "Snooze" or "Stop" instead of physically handling the phone to turn off the alarm. 3. I also really miss the IR blaster/TV remote control function. 4. The price is simply insane. (Thank you Best Buy for your terrific 0% financing for 24 months. I'd never have been able to get this phone without it.) That being said, the new Note 9 is still a great phone. So much more space and some great new features; I'm still trying to learn some of them. Great to have an unlocked phone and so much more storage too!

A few things about me that are important when reading my reveiw... I have been an iPhone loyalst for about a decade. The one exception was with the note 7 (or maybe it was 8) that I tried to switch to right around the time they started catching on fire. Needless to say that one was returned. I like this phone I wanted a larger screen since this is used for navigation the larger screen real estate comes in very handy. That left this and the iPhone X. I read boatloads of reviews and what it came down to was price. On paper these were so close and this was $300 cheaper so I got it. I have been pleased with it and I like the idea of android better than being locked into the IOS system. I have noted numerous things that this phone does that the iPhone can't (actually won't because of IOS). The negatives, I don't like the fact that the screen curves around the device, I would prefer it to be flat. Also, I guess it is nice to have the pen but I don't use it much, maybe that will change as I figure out more of what it can do but until this it seems like a gimmick.

I am a long time Apple user. I have had iPhone since version 1 and still carry a iPhone 8 for work, because we have no choice. When work decided to limit use I decided to go with Android for a personal phone. Honestly, it has been a great switch. I had tried android years ago and took it back, after two days, and returned to apple. For some reason I have more errors when texting with the note 9 but other than that, the battery life, the photos, and general use are wonderful. The screen seems so much more vibrant, but that could just be me. Android is still the only real negative for me, and that is just because I’ve used iOS for so long. I get real annoyed with the number of ads that come with their apps. But again that’s not Samsung or the phones fault. All in all, I am very happy with the phone. It’s solid, not really any bigger that my iPhone 8 and yet still provides much more screen real estate.

Purchased this phone because the motherboard on my Pixel crapped out. Wasn't in love with any current phones on the market but didn't want to spend the $350 for a new motherboard (see motherboard issues on Pixels) so I ended up with a new phone. I chose the Note9 over others because (in no particular order): 1. I have a Tab S4 that I really love and wanted the S Pen (love the "remote" capabilities with the pen) 2. Could buy unlocked version 3. Offered in silver (not a fan of loud colors or black) 4. Expandable memory 5. Offered in 128GB 6. 6GB RAM Cons: It's a little too big for me personally, but hardware was important since I want this phone to last me a long time. Noticing it can be slow compared to Pixel. Don't care for Bixby and remapping to Google Assistant/Now is cumbersome. Missing unlimited storage with Google Photos. I'm definitely salty with Google, but trust Samsung phones a lot more.

I have to admit I have been an Apple user for a long time. I never thought I would even be switching but I did. Since Steve Jobs died in my own opinion, Apple products have not been the best that they used to be. It was Samsung’s turn to shine now and so they created Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I got the one in Cloud Silver. So far I have been really enjoying it especially the freedom to customize your ringtone, font style, and being able to transfer/share files easily. Plus the camera is way better than iPhone XS Max. For now I have yet to explore it some more and discover for myself its lasting power. Hopefully it will last longer. I only gave it 4 stars because though it is the best for me it has one flaw that I do not like about it. It is my own so I am not sure if you would think the same way as well but the image/video quality becomes really bad when you send/share a photo/video as MMS.

I love the phone. The camera is better than the iPhone camera on my girls 8plus cell. I like everything about the phone from storage to expandable storage with an extra card, to the size, battery life, etc. I also have hearing loss due to radiaiton to head area and this phone has awesome voice quality. I never have issues understanding conversations on the cell like I did have with other cells before. The only part which I do not like is the phone's "speaker phone". I have gotten bad feedback by now from family, doctor offices, friends, my child that no one can understand me when I place the call on speakerphone! I can hear very well the people, however the people can not hear me very well back - so it must have a bad quality microphone for the speakerphoen :(

Pretty much does what it says it does. I have not used all the features yet but the new pen is useful such as taking a photo. It is not as large as I thought it would be as its just a tad larger than the S9 plus I had previously. Weight wise, overall do not notice but when it is in my front pocket for a few hours I notice. There have been a few updates. And this is where the 4 stars come in. It seems that it gets confused with fingerprint and Samsung pass autofil which leads to me having to sign in on certain apps the old fashion way. It never did this with my other Samsung phones. It is annoying for me. I love how the fingerprint censor is below the camera, that was what I was waiting for otherwise I was set to get the Note 8. Photo's as always are fab. Much better than the iphone which the rest of my family have!

This was a huge upgrade from my very dated Moto G 1st Gen so I'm bound to be happy with any phone that actually keeps up with modern demands. With that said, I'm loving the crisp, clear screen resolution, the excellent camera, and the many, many layers of features packed into this phone. However, this is my first experience with Bixby and I'm having a very hard time getting it to respond to all that I want it to do. There are so many layers of permissions and settings to navigate before it can get dialed in. I'm sure I'll get there eventually, but right now I try to run even the most basic of commands and responds by telling me I have to update my permissions to do that. However, that's a small inconvenience when compared to the storage capacity, battery life, camera, etc which make this such a great phone.

This is my first Galaxy Note phone. I've always wanted one & recently purchased it with $200 off the original price. There's plenty of great reviews & valuable information on this phone, so I'll let my words be few. It is a great phone, has a great camera and I love using the pen with the phone. I'm still learning all the features, in's & out's. I gave it a 4 star or maybe a 4.5 star because the facial recognition only works half the time & I have to keep putting in my password. Sometimes in the midst of putting it in, then it seems to recognize me. The speakers vibrate as well depending on the volume & the type of music that is played. Almost is if they're old speakers that are getting worn out. Other than that, everything about the phone is awesome.

I switched from an iPhone 6S to the Note 9 - the Samsung interface is closer to the look and feel of an iPhone than the Pixel. Makes switching easier, though I still haven't been able to get all my contacts switched over to the new phone. The tough glass on front is nice but back glass is not as tough. Only lasted one day while awaiting my case delivery to slip and fall one foot and break. Luckily not affecting camera or sensors. Use a case and screen protector. Battery life is good. Fast charging is nice but with a case has a tough time charging fully. Usually stops charging by 69-72%. No physical mute switch or easy way I have found yet to easily mute all sounds and notification alerts. Have not tested waterproofing and hope I don't need to. Added a Simply Carbon Fiber screen protector.

I had to replace my Samsung 6 and after speaking to the Samsung rep and the Best Buy employee (separately) I decided on the new Note 9. PROS: Amazing clear graphics, great picture taking ability, faster than my Galaxy 6, has a stylus that stays in place in the phone CONS: I am still having issues with the keyboard adding an extra "g" and space at the end words ending in "ing". I had this problem with my previous Samsung phones as well, cannot move apps around as easily as I could on the 6 BIG CON: VERY EXPENSIVE - hard to justify the cost of this phone but I purchased it anyway Samsung: PLEASE PROVIDE A READABLE instruction book on how to use this phone. I gave it 4 stars because of the keyboard issue and no instruction booklet

Wasn't originally going to get this Samsung Galaxy Note 9 at all; I've been very picky with my smart phones. My priority has been sound. For years I would humm and haaw over different models with the speakers I wanted because the overall phone never had solid and consistent reviews. Family member got the Note 9 in Lavender and I got to play around with it. I was surprised by the sound quality and went for it. I have found one defect on the one I purchased; there is a thumbprint sized spot on the left side of the screen that is just dead to input on the touchscreen. Neither pen not finger is sensed in that spot. It's annoying but not a deal breaker. Gong to look into warranty options.

The Samsung Galaxy Note S9 is overall a fantastic phone. I expected it to be a bit wider but it's tall and lean, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's fast, has a lot of storage, great display and a good set of features and cameras. My favorite feature is the S pen which can be used to take pictures from a distance by setting your phone up on a solid surface or a tripod/bipod etc. It doesn't get five stars because I expected a 16 megapixel camera (as opposed to 12) because my Galaxy S6 had a 16 megapixel camera. Furthermore, it doesn't do anything more revolutionary compared with previous phones. It does however have a fantastic battery life.

One thing I noticed right off, that has been mentioned by other reviewers, is that the battery last quite awhile. Blows the old Note 4 out of the water. The screen quality is quite nice and the pics that are made with the camera rival some of the 35mm DSLRs out there. The flashlight is plenty bright enough. The OS is pretty fast even with multiple apps opened. I mean like 10 lol. The phone gets warm to the touch and thats about it. I got it wrapped in the Otterbox Defender (yes they r out there) and it fits it quite well. It is an expensive amount to cough up for a phone, but it will grow on you.

I debated with getting this phone or waiting for the next iPhone and decided to go with the Samsung Note. So far I have no regrets, but I am still learning what this phone can do. I like the flexibility and look of Android more so than iOS, but it takes some getting used to. Overall, I am happy with my purchase. This is a beautiful phone! I'd give it 5 stars if Samsung would have more frequent Android updates. I'm not a huge fan of their Samsung Experience...I prefer pure stock Android.

Great phone and very pleased with results. Have never owned an unlocked phone before. Very pleasantly surprised. Also never had a phone this big. Love it for eyes "over 40". Only thing I have issues with is the strange way of snoozing an alarm. All previous phones, no matter the OS, I could press any button in the dark and snoozing. This phone requires more effort and blinding light to snooze. Still a wonderful phone so far. Love the fingerprint function on the back because I do not have to hold the phone any differently to unlock it.

Got the phone for my wife who has been a Galaxy Note fan and upgraded from the Note 4. The phone feels well put together, a step up from what I expect from Samsung in terms of look and feel quality though not up there with the iphones yet. The camera works great, love the 'Live' setting while clicking photographs and the fact you can zoom out of a shot later while reviewing photographs. I would rate this phone at the top of the Android pyramid and have cut one star because I feel Samsung could have priced better given their phone's build quality.
