I use mostly Apple devices, but this is my second android tablet - the other being the 1st gen Galaxy Note 10.1.
I wanted a 7" tablet primarily for use in my car (using iPhone as a hotspot when needed). An iPad mini did not make sense as it is bigger and much more expensive. Also, iPad is less flexible when it comes to data/file storage.
I use an iPhone 5 because it prefer that size in my pocket - hated the iP6's size - but in the car, I need a bigger screen to be able to see more/read quickly. Thus, a bigger phone was not the solution.
Primary intention was to use it for GPS/map reading (I have a great spot where it is readable without mounting... Aging eyes make the iP5 screen too small to read quickly. Bigger screen also helps with regular reading (e.g. emails).
So in the one or two months I've owned this, this is how it has met my initial expectations/requirements:
Use as a GPS in the car (mainly map views). My preferred iPhone app for GPS/Navigation is MapQuest. Works great on the iPhone, but there is a severe lag using MapQuest on this tablet. Talking 20-30 second gap between where you are and your location on the map. Yes, it does take time to go from tablet to phone to server and back. HOWEVER, with Google Maps - the lag is only a few seconds - which is very workable.
Email reading is what I expected it to be. Very usable when I use the native email app. Gmail app - however - is very difficult to use if you wanted to take a quick glance - takes forever to update and the font is too small for a glance. But that is the same problem I have with Gmail app on Apple devices...
Pleasant surprises: Screen resolution is excellent. Apps generally run well on the Lollipop OS, but app development is spotty in Android (some apps are developed as Portrait only apps, I've noticed). Been happy enough that I carry it around everywhere in the house as an all purpose device (I even have my Ooma calls ringing on the tablet). I now use it for streaming (MLB TV, Netflix, cable TV, my media server, YouTube), Words with Friends, etc. I even installed some games that are being advertised on TV, and they ran very well. Not into those games, so I deleted them to save space.
The annoying flaw(s): to the left and the right of the home button on the bottom of the tablet are two touch sensitive buttons - one to switch screens/select split screen mode, and the other is the 'back' button. The Flaw? If you're watching video, it's likely to be in landscape mode. If it is not on a stand or other stationary platform, then you're likely to be holding it in your hands. If you hold it with two hands or just using your right hand - you have a 95% probability of touching the back button during playback. A non-issue if the back or screen buttons were actual switches/buttons like the home button and not touch-sensitive, as you would touch, but know not to press it an actual button or switch.
I have to be very aware of these buttons when I move it, as just changing hands or finger grip/position could have a finger touch one of these buttons - interrupting the app. In the case of MLB baseball game streaming, this means I have to RESTART the game's stream. And yes, I have a case that works as a stand, but I typically have it in my hands when it is being used around the house.
The other annoyance... wifi antennae (in)sensitivity - this consistently happens with online streaming, where video would stop and a few moments would pass and it would tell me it (re)connected to wifi. Happens when I am 'a little' further away from my router, Does not happen with other devices at the same spots. And yes, I have signal repeaters close by when this happens.
If not for this - this would be a 5 star device for me. But I'm happy with this and for the price ($119) vs an iPad mini with a lot of storage - I can accept these annoyances.

The Samsung Tab A 7inch is a great size for reading e-books. It is powerful enough to do light internet tasks and has good battery life. It only comes with 8GB of ram, so an expansion card is a must.

I have an iPad 4th generation and was looking for a smaller tablet that was easy and light enough to hold in the hand. As I wasn't interested in paying the premium price for an iPad mini, I looked at Android tablets on Best Buy's website and decided that this Samsung tablet seemed to be what I wanted and wouldn't break the bank. I was initially concerned about the screen resolution, but because the tablet is only 7 inches, I quickly discovered after looking at the demo model in store that the screen was surprisingly quite nice. I actually like it better than my iPad. While it's only a TFT screen, it's bright and text is quite sharp. Color saturation is surprising nice as well.
I have been so impressed with the build quality and the textured back as well. Internal memory is only 8gb, but that's easily remedied by a 128gb Microsd card and it can even support cards up to 200gb.
For a budget tablet, Samsung scored a winner with this one. I would definitely recommend it.

My SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A7 is good a thing: it is small, light, fast enough and stable. It has enough CPU power to support most of Android apps available in wide Google Store. It would not work as a full-blown tablet because of memory limitation and lack of hardware feature - it has only 8G of memory and no NFC, 4G/LTE, Fingerprint scanner, additional sensors and etc. Half of available memory is already pre-allocated for Google's application so a user will have only 4G available. It is not much for Android so it is not possible to load the table with a lot of games and music but if you like to surf internet and have a couple of simple games - it is ok. In totals: it is a simple but good enough tablet for the price.

Purchased as an upgrade from a Kids Fire to this tablet to give my daughter better options as far as game selections. The display is phenomenal and the processor is quick. Perfect size for her hands and the screen size is an added bonus since the actual tablet is smaller than the Fire. Storage is an obvious issue but easily fixed with a SD card.

I purchased this mostly for my kids to use in the car on trips. It’s a pretty good little tablet although you basically need to buy an sd card as the 8 gb is used up by just the installed apps. The processor is pretty good with loading apps and videos however sometimes it does load some videos slowly.
The battery life is decent, I usually charge it every few days after using it for about 2-3 hours per day. The screen quality is pretty good too considering the price, I use it to watch some shows on Hulu and Netflix without any issues.

I purchased this tablet as an open item and have been very pleased with its performance and the piece of mind Best Buy gives you by providing the same warranty when you buy an open item. Applications run smoothly and battery life is very good. The 7" screen is perfect for travel, however 8GB of internal memory means that you will need to take advantage of the microSD card slot and expand the memory if you add any additional content.

Try as I did, I could not justify spending more than $100 on a cell phone, much less hundreds of bucks. This Samsung was about $70, plus $40 a month for unlimited talk & text, as well as 5 gigs of data. Pay on time and you can roll over your data every month. In half a year of use I don't think I've ever used more than 1 gig of data in a month, since WiFi is available practically everywhere. The camera shoots respectable images; suitable for tossing up on social media. The phone's processor operates at least as fast as phones I tested costing 3x as much. The only downside is 8 gigs of internal memory. I popped in a 128 gig SD card to store some work-related apps, plus about 11,000 songs, a couple games and 3-4 movies so I have plenty of media storage. The only real problem with 8 gigs internal memory is the phone OS uses about half of that right out of the box, so you effectively have only 4 gigs. Because this is an Android, there are many worthwhile apps in the Google Playstore that can only be stored on a phone's internal memory. You cannot move them over to the SD card. The result is you have to be judicious with that 4 gigs of useable internal memory. Beyond that, this is a helluva nice Galaxy phone for the price.

For my purposes this tablet suffices. I added a 128 GB Micro SD card and keep as many apps on the card as this tablet allows. Music and photos also are kept on the SD card.
Many apps are not transferable and when they are, only part of the apps end up on the card. 8 GB of RAM is unheard of so I don't know what Samsung was thinking of but without the card it's so limited, it's almost useless.
There are some ergonomic differences with a Samsung and iPad. It's not clear that Samsung has nailed more than one or two benefits with the differences. Just holding the tablet, with control button locations, takes a while get used to. The case you choose also affects access to access to controls.
On the plus side, the "previous screen" button is a huge improvement over an apple product.
The camera on this model is just OK. Not like their phone quality which in excellent.
The price is what made this purchase a no brainer and a great value. An iPad was hundreds of dollars more. To some it's apples and oranges but to others it's about the range of features, quality of the build, the functionality and it many cases, including mine, this tablet is not merely adequate, it's extremely useful and practical. It does what I need which is internet access (wifionly), email, TV and movie viewing and music on my boat and car via bluetooth.
Battery life is pretty good, actually very good compared to my iPads and iPods. For the money it's a great value and Best Buy had the best price on new inventory.

I had previously owned a Nexus 7 and loved it. However, one of the system upgrades for Android made it unusable. Best Buy had a special where you could trade in a working tablet for a discount on the Samsung Tab A. Since technically, it still did work, I traded it towards the 8" version since there was no 7". I never really liked it. I just didn't fit or feel right.
I happened to notice BB had a sale on the Tab A 7", which was introduced later and I was unaware of. It is the perfect size for me. I love it. The screen is quite good in appearance and the system is pretty responsive.
There are two issues keeping me from giving 5 stars. First, is having only 8 GB of onboard storage. The system files take nearly half of that and then the preinstalled software takes up more leaving just over 3 GB available for your own preferred apps. It's not a huge problem for me, but I'm not loading some apps yet to see how it works.
The second issue is the sensitivity of the touch screen. It takes more force to get a response than I'm used to from my phone and an iPad I also have.
Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.

If only this tablet had 16 or 32 gigs, it would be a marvelous little tablet and worth price compared to a Kindle. Great for reading Nook and Kindle books and watching Netflix and Plex movies. I think the screen resolution is pretty good for a Samsung, although they all tend to have a darker picture.
It's a wonderful size for throwing in my purse or backpack. It charges quickly. I can watch almost 2+ movies through WiFi before it starts running out of juice. I think I have watched 3 off the MicroSD card. Book reading time is more than 12 hours if you make sure you're not using Wifi, location or Bluetooth. The sound is better than a 7 inch Kindle Fire, and the picture quality is close (the Kindle's is a little bit better, but Kindle's sound quality is poor. I did a side by side comparison).
But only having 8 gigs on the device is very limiting in terms of apps and usage. It's a good tablet. It's just not GREAT! Especially for the money, although Samsung has lower the price as of late. (Spring 2018).
Samsung, add another 8-16 gigs and you've have a good tablet.

I have had a variety of tablets both android and Apple. This one fairs well with all of them. The screen is vibrant and navigation between apps and screens is quick. Not the fastest and certainly not the slowest. I got this to use for the nook app specifically. I have the WiFi turned off the majority of the time. This has yielded extremely long battery life. I can read at 25% screen illumination for about 16 hours before having to recharge. I have used it for social media as well but the cameras do not provide a decent quality photo so it was more casual browsing than uploading photos. Not an issue for me but others may want that feature. I think a feature I didn’t even know it had when I bought it but really appreciate is the FM radio. It does not require internet connectivity and with the long battery life will be great in emergency situations. For 100$ it is well worth the cost.

If only it wasn't abandoned by Samsung

I bought this tablet to replace my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7 inch model. I am a bit of a gadget freak, but I also spend a lot of time in technology and like to have a variety of devices so I am at least somewhat familiar with the different platforms. When it comes to tablets, I always chose Apple over Android. I really don't like the Android experience, and because I follow the technology security industry closely, I am always concerned with the way that manufacturers will abandon their products, often very quickly, leaving them vulnerable to security problems because the device manufacturer controls the updates. And yes, I know about rooting and sideloading, but again, I spend time helping others with their technology, and I don't think a common product like and Android device should expect it's users to be able to perform these technical feats to maintain a relatively new product.
With that said, this is a big improvement over my previous 7 inch tablet. It's much faster, and the battery life seems to be a lot better as well. Unfortunately, this is one of Samsung's current products, and they have already abandoned it - NO, you CANNOT get Marshmallow on this tablet, and don't let the Best Buy employees tell you otherwise, like they did to me. Android Marshmallow, as of this writing, isn't even the latest version, and yet a product that can be purchased right off of Samsung's website is already abandoned from updates, turning it into a potential security vulnerability. This was actually why I was upgrading my tablet - I wanted to upgrade to as close to the latest as I could afford from my Kit Kat tablet. Unfortunately, you cannot (natively) do this on this tablet. Do to some unexpected circumstances, my return window passed before I could return it, and since I got it at a good price, I didn't worry too much about it. I honest preferred this tablet, even over the 8 inch one, because of it's higher resolution, another thing lacking in a lot of Samsung tablets.
Because I am very cautious about how I use these devices, carefully examine apps and their permissions before I download them, and run on a VPN when I am not on my home network, I am happy enough with my purchase. However, I you did not fully follow what I just said, or if you are buying this for someone who is not comfortable with technology, consider buying a tablet that COMES with a more recent version of Android, in hopes that it won't be obsolete before being removed from the box, giving the user a little more protection.

This is a very good tablet for someone looking for something both portable and low-cost. The screen is sharp for the price range it sits in, and it's pretty snappy. I've never been a fan of Samsung's skinned version of Android, but it doesn't bother me too much since I'm not on it all day.
The only drawback to this tablet is the limited internal storage space. It only comes with 8gb of internal storage, a large chunk of which is occupied by the operating system and built-in apps. You can expand the amount of storage with a micro SD card, but keep in mind (1) Samsung took out Android's ability to use an SD card as expanded internal storage for this tablet, and (2) while it does support the apps to SD card function, not all apps can be moved over (The developer makes the call on that.).
But overall, I like it.

Initially bought this because I thought it had smart view capabilities but unfortunately it doesn't. Wish I knew that before buying. Over all good starter tablet, small enough for travelling, big enough for viewing. Has the minimum capabilities you need for a standard tablet--social media use, internet searching/viewing, play games, and reading.

I picked this up for $89 , its a fantastic little tablet for the price paid. The screen has great color and vibrancy. I do notice a slight light bleed on the corners when the screen is completely black and backlit but its not that big a deal for em. You dont notice it in games and other apps. It runs games decently and plays videos just fine. I'll use it as a carry around tab for offline video viewing and gaming. Also to let my lil nephew use it instead of using my pricier prettier tablet. The only cons about this tablet are that it only has 8GB of storage, you have about 3gb of usable storage really. I've yet to put an SD card so im not sure if you can put apps on an sd card yet. The other con is the low RAM, it cant really handle running multiple apps very well. Well at least while trying to game. You have to close everything out before launching a game. All in all, i am pleased with it and would recommend it for $89. Its a nice size and form factor. It feels premium for what it's worth.

I wanted a new tablet to replace my current one. I like the 7 inch tablet because it's easier for me to hold with one hand. The Samsung SM-T280 fit the bill for size although it's heavier and a bit thicker than my Google Nexus 7. Battery is good and recharge is quite quick. The SD card slot for additional storage is important because the internal storage is only 8GB, of which 3.19GB is used by system memory. The touch screen is not as responsive as my Nexus, and signing on with my pin number is sometimes a pain. Web pages load okay but not always quickly. Camera works well.

Not a bad tablet. It has a good battery and a decent screen. I don't like the charging port being on the top of the tablet. I previously purchased a Galaxy Tab E Lite 7.0 but returned it for this tablet because the screen was really bad. When using something like Google Maps satellite view if the tablet was held at any kind of an angle the screen would almost look black and was hard to see. It did the same thing on other apps as well just not to the same extent. This tablet is definitely a step up from the E Lite. Have had no problems with it and it has received several updates recently. We are using 4 of them as Electronic Logging Devices in trucks because of the small size and affordable price.
