There wasn't anything new or better on this tablet then my older one which is LG. The Samsung did not have a sim card and did not contact to through WiFi via my carrier which the salesman at Best Buy said would not impact the connections to the internet and updates to my email etc., which it did. This is why I returned it as my LG tablet connected through my carrier and when not in my home picked of connectivity without any issues.

this is 2nd samsung tablet and I know if I need another it will be samsung again. the processor is quick even on my sometimes bad wifi. im not one to take a lot of pictures but this one is easy to operate. the case I bought doesn't fit this tablet, even though it says it is for Galaxy Tab A 8.0" I will return to store and figure this out. Great tablet for most any use you have.

A quick buy for a trip, we didn't want to spend much. Being accustomed to Samsung cells pushed us towards the Tab A 8. Good choice because using the Tab A 8 required very little learning. It's so much like using the Galaxy S 7 cell... but with a nice big screen. It's main drawback is that it is only for wifi use. Being connected to a phone company would be nice.

The only complaint I have about this tablet is the complaint I have about ALL Samsung tablets: the video (whether it's your own or Netflix or whatever) just plays dark. The other thing that drives me nuts about Samsung tablets is how hard it's to open up the SD card slot. It takes a special tool or a really thin paper clip and that's a pain. Why can't they have a little door and you just push on the card and it pops up. There are too many delicate things that could go wrong. Other than that, this is a very nice tablet for reading eBooks, web browsing and watching video while traveling. It's pretty lightweight and responsive. Since no one seems to have thought that 7" tablets need more than 8 gigs, this is a the perfect alternative. I'd definitely get some protection for any tablet (a cover, a screen protector) but this will fit into your purse or briefcase. The speaker is pretty good. IThe tablet is a little slow on the uploading and sometimes it's a little slower connecting to WiFi (it doesn't have a big processor) but all in all, it's a pretty good tablet And it's a GREAT alternative to an iPad, and costs much less. Plus there's that MicroSD card slot for expandable memory. I'd buy it again. I'd recommend it.

    So-So Tablet

I own a 2 year old 8" Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 that is still chugging along just fine. I bought this kind of as a back up since the battery charge is not holding quite as long as it once did on the S2. The S2 still runs circles around this entry-level tablet. The Tab A is a bit heavy. Also, it has only one speaker which is fine for basic audio. The major issue that I have with with the Tab A is WIFI connection and speed. The S2 automatically connects to the 5GHz band on my modem. The Tab A does not; it usually connects to the slower 2.4 GHz band. This occurs with the two tablets running side by side. Sometimes the Tab A connects to the 5G band, but more often it connects to the 2.4 GHz band. I did return this tablet once to see if a second Tab A had better WIFI, but the second one was the same as the first. For the price, this is a good entry-level tablet for kids and for first-time tablet users. It does have a lot of great features, including a USB-C connection and great battery life. Even the picture quality is pretty good. If it weren't for the WIFI issue, this would really be a winner.
