    So-So Tablet

I own a 2 year old 8" Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 that is still chugging along just fine. I bought this kind of as a back up since the battery charge is not holding quite as long as it once did on the S2. The S2 still runs circles around this entry-level tablet. The Tab A is a bit heavy. Also, it has only one speaker which is fine for basic audio. The major issue that I have with with the Tab A is WIFI connection and speed. The S2 automatically connects to the 5GHz band on my modem. The Tab A does not; it usually connects to the slower 2.4 GHz band. This occurs with the two tablets running side by side. Sometimes the Tab A connects to the 5G band, but more often it connects to the 2.4 GHz band. I did return this tablet once to see if a second Tab A had better WIFI, but the second one was the same as the first. For the price, this is a good entry-level tablet for kids and for first-time tablet users. It does have a lot of great features, including a USB-C connection and great battery life. Even the picture quality is pretty good. If it weren't for the WIFI issue, this would really be a winner.

Needed a tablet for a drone controller to use. OK for that use, but not spectacular. Have Apple, MS, and Samsung handhelds; this is the most mediocre, by far. If new iPad Mini comes out, this item will quickly be replaced by that to give use with drone and other practical uses. My Note 9 is actually more useful, all by itself, and I don't have to lug around the tablet with a phone. Laggy and stumbling overall, unreliable and small touch screen, mediocre bud and speaker sound, last year's OS with no upgrade path. In equal comparison, my old no-name Windows tablets had an upgrade path for at least 2 years, but there's no drone app. Even with a more expensive model, Android apps are soooo choppy compared to iOS, and so weak compared to Win10. Won't even use this with a telescope and night sky app as even a larger, more awkward Win10 device more than compensates with power and size over mere handiness, and iPad is far more smooth and handy over mere price, even for an older model. Love the Note 9 even with the Android as it's far snappier and useful, even with the much smaller screen. This tablet is a definite pass on to a relative when the new iPad Mini emerges.

    Not What I Was Expecting

First I'll say that I did my research before making this purchase visiting several sites including Samsung, Best Buy, CNet, The Verge and Consumer Reports to get an idea if this table was right for me. What I found was that it was fairly difficult to determine if the Galaxy Tab A8 was right for me because it was so hard to tell which of Samsung's offers were fast and reliable. The Tab A8 was the perfect size, price and appeared to be fast but I couldn't really tell when stacking it up against comparable Samsung tablets of the same size. The deciding factor ending up being the product year (Galaxy Tab A8 2018). Unfortunately, that meant nothing because the 2018 model appears to be the 2017 model with a few modifications. The result is a device that's almost fast enough but not quite there and what really irks me is that it's stuck on Android 7.1 which lacks many features that are present on the Galaxy S Phones. If you're looking for something fast and has recent updates choose another device.

Not to be confused with an iPad

This tablet is satisfactorily handling its role as a control pad for all the automation in my home. Surfing the web and shopping on Apps goes well most of the time. It will freeze if there's a page full of photos. Haven't spent anytime watching video. I'm an Android user. My phone is a Galaxy Note 9. The Galaxy Tab is not as quick as the Note 9. Besides its use as a control pad the only time I'll reach for the tablet is the occassion I'm surfing and need the larger display, othewise I prefer the experience on the Note 9. Sad to say, but before you put your $$$ down be sure to familiarize yourself with the iPad, you'll find it to be the overall better device. Now, like me, you may chose to save a pile of cash and buy the Galaxy Tab, particularly if the Galaxy Tabs' primary use will be as a device controller.

I like Samsung products and purchase them often. I like it but not as much as previous purchases like my mini. I like that it's a little larger than my previous Samsung tablet with more memory with a better camera. However I did not like that it used a different size charger than my other tablet & my Samsung 7 phone. It's inconvenient. My other tablet connected to my phone & Samsung tv quickly & easily sharing info immediately. I still have not been able to get this tablet to do the same thing after hrs of trying. Also finger prints show up more on outside of this tablet due to texture so it needs cleaning more often.

The tablet itself performs as you would expect it is a Galaxy based product. The reason it has a 3 star it's because it lacks some basics features that I've come to enjoy some Galaxy based products such as swipe text and it does not have back lights under the buttons at the bottom of the tablet on either side of the home button. It does lack some of the processing speed other tablets it struggles to run larger games but overall I am very happy with the product

Given the price point of the tablet, it probably deserves like a 4.5 rating because it does an excellent job in correlation to my expectations. I am only giving it a 3 star rating because it is average when compared to other tablets out there. Know what you want a tablet for and make sure this will fit your needs, if it will do what you want then you can count on the durability and ease of use to make it a worthwhile investment.

Swapped this tablet for its previous version. The resolution is better but still bloop full HD available. This is a general purpose everyday ise tab for kids and adults. Pros: A) Ticks all basic requirements B) USB-C charging is a relief C) Battery life is good Cons: A) No light provided yet on either side of the home button B)They still have the Home button, phones do not have them C) No wireless charging option yet

I am coming from the SM-t320 model which I have had for years. Still works great. I thought I would "upgrade". This may be a faster version but it is nowhere near my old one. The back is just too slick and hard. If it had the same back as the 320, maybe I upgrade the review. The 320 just feels so good in my hands. I was disappointed with purchase but only for looks and feel. Samsung is still a great product.

I bought this as a backup to my iPad so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it. My phone is android so I can share same apps. The camera is ok, it not real fast but it seems to work ok. I had a Samsung tab S which was a super tablet but it had battery issues and I didn’t want to spend the big bucks on a new tab s in fear I would have the same problem.

I was interested in trying the android operating system without getting an android phone and this was a good way to do it. Needless to say I am happy that I have not dumped my iPhone for a droid. In hindsight I wish I had known about the Microsoft Surface Go that was on the horizon. I would have rather had that when it came out a few months later.

I bought this for travel. I was rather disappointed in it's memory/storage. Even with the added SD card only certain apps and prograns can be moved to the SD card to free up memory. I find myself removing apps to free up space just to do updates. I would not purchase this again nor recommend this.

Slower than my Galaxy 10 inch tablet. Was to be a faster tablet but it is not. Recommend you look at other brands. Disappointment from Samsung. One positive, it's a great size for travel. This has a type "c" plug so older cables will not work. I bought converter jacks from Amazon instead of buying new cables.

I have had a Galaxy S doe several years and one of the main reasons I replaced it was because several apps I wanted would not work with it. When I tried to download the app I would get a message saying that my device is not compatible with the app. The brand new Tab A does the same thing!

This tablet is okay for fun use but not for serious internet use. The style, overall look and software is nice but the screen has a tendency to freeze a lot, which I find very frustrating. For that reason, I have to give this tablet only an average rating because performance is key.

I bought this tablet in hopes that it could run Android games better than my 3 year old LG phone, but it couldn't so I returned it. Seems like a decent tablet for other tasks such as surfing the net, etc, but it definitely lacked power and speed imo.

I bought one for myself, used it, and thought it was decent enough to buy another as a gift. I mainly use it to surf the web and watch TV apps. The volume isn't that greatest but for the price, it's not a complaint. Some widely used phone apps are not compatible with the tablet.

Used to own a Tab E, which I was very happy with. Borrowed a mini iPad for the past couple months. Have liked Apple products but found this sluggish. Now I’ve got this Tab A, which I like much better. Still miss the bigger screen of the Tab E but I find the Tab A just as responsive and easy to use.

The Galaxy Tab A is not a real cutting edge tablet, but it performs well and serves it's purpose. I bought this for my mom to surf, read, and play some games. She has really liked it and has had no issues. If she needed it for anything more complex, I would have bought something else.

First tablet and it is obvious the documentation or lack of documentation is due to the mfg assuming repeat buyers or experienced users. Not easy to get a manual and then it is just a printed copy of the online version, no official manual. Not easy to use for seniors.
