This tablet works great for half the price of an ipad. Being able to add a the memory card is a huge plus. The camera is good not great, but this is for the kids and works perfect for them.

A tablet that is just what I wanted

I carry a tablet everywhere I go. I mainly use them as e-readers and to carry lists of the books and movies I own. (Prevents duplicates!) The Tab A with an 8" screen fits these purposes splendidly. Android is my mobile operating system of choice. On every tablet I get, I install a couple of reading apps (Cool Reader and Moon Reader); if the tablet doesn't come with an app to view Office documents I install one of those, too. The Tab A came with access to Google Play; as usual adding my preferred apps was a snap. I copied some e-books and the lists of my books and movies to the Tab A and it was all set. The 8" screen is perfect for reading: It displays a lot of text without being so big as to be cumbersome. As with all e-readers and tablets a case/cover is a great idea. It makes the device easier to hold and protects it from damage. Best Buy's price-matching policy helped me decide to get this tablet at Best Buy. Another local retailer had the Samsung Tab A on sale for $20 off. I had planned to go there after I left Best Buy. When I mentioned this to Best Buy's sales associate he was able to match the other store's sale price. I was saved a trip and Best Buy got the sale. The Tab A also has other features that I don't use much if at all, but others do: Bluetooth connectability and front and back cameras, to name two. Many of the more popular apps come installed on the Tab A as well. For instance, I believe the Tab A can play videos and music (though I haven't tried to do so myself). Another quality that matters to many is battery life; the Tab A holds a charge well. Like any tablet you should expect to charge it every day or so of heavy use. Apart from wireless connection the Tab A has a port for a micro-USB cable. There is also a microSD slot in case the 16GB internal memory isn't enough; up to a 32GB microSD card can be installed. I won't claim the Samsung Tab A will be a perfect tablet for everyone, but it is perfect for me.

I absolutely love my Samsung tab A! I use it at work all the time for casual browsing and helping customers and have no problem getting at least 2 days, sometimes more, out of the battery. I've owned a little bit of everything as far as brands go and I've been extremely happy with the performance and ease of the android system. Would highly recommend this for someone looking for a portable and easy to use tablet!

There are bigger tablets, but I wanted an 8" that seemed just the right size to carry and use. I also like most people have a laptop and other devices, but this is ideal. It does everything that I want and with expanded storage of the SD card it's perfect.

This Samsung-Galaxy Tab A-8-16GB (WiFi) was purchased to replace a Samsung-Galaxy Tab 2-7-8GB (Wi-Fi) unit whose battery failed after nearly 3 years. The Tab A runs on Android 5.0 and starts in seconds rather than minutes. The back-facing camera records at 5 mps and takes pictures that are superior to those taken with the Tab 2. I set the device to save all photos on a 32 gb micro card that I installed, leaving all of the Tab A's 16 mb to store most apps and run the device's OS. I also store all my music and other documents that I wish to carry with me on the 32 gb micro card. One nice feature that I use a lot is the rolodex-like "Recant Apps" feature, which allows you to quickly switch between apps and display multiple windows on a split Screen. I have had the Tab A for about a month and have used it at home and on the road, including a trip to Europe. This device worked beautifully, video is sharp, audio is clear, the battery lasts a long time between charges, and recharges from 20% to 100% in about 3.5 hours. The sale price of $179.99 is a good price for a device that does all the tasks that I need from a tablet.

I bought the tab 4 several years ago and wanted another tablet with more gigs and I looked at the tab A. It is perfect for my needs. It is small enough to fit into my pocketbook and large enough for me to see without straining my eyes. I am enjoying it immensely. I highly recommend the tab A for casual users who serf the web, check e-mail, Facebook, and read books and magazines.

I had previously owned and loved a smaller Samsung tablet, but I fried it with a defective portable battery pack. The first tablet I bought as a replacement was an Asus -- didn't want to spend a bunch, and I though it would be adequate. The Asus tablet was just disappointing. After a couple of years, I decided to invest in a new tablet, and returned to Samsung. This tablet is faster, the wifi connection is better, and it has more storage.

My 3 y.o. son and my 61 y.o. mother love this tablet! Easy to use and navigate. Great picture quality and apps from Google Play. Netflix works great as well. It does use a lot of our home internet speed, so we had to up our speed and it works better now with the faster speed.

We wanted to buy a tablet for our toddler daughter and this was a great choice. We are comfortable with both androids and apple products but since this was for our daughter, it made sense to save the money and purchase an android tablet. Samsung makes great things and this is no exemption. It's easy to use, light, durable, and the visual quality is great.

Affordable tablet for beginners - great for drones

I picked up the 8" Tab A for the great sale price at the time during the Holidays, more importantly I did need a simple, not too pricy Android device for my Drone. I admit I am a major Apple user, but after the 11.2 IOS update, all devices with this latest OS simply does not work anymore with the Autel X-Star drone, Starlink app. Apparently there is a "USB communication" problem that both Apple AND Autel need to fix. So rather than wait for both sides to work this issue out - which I feel may be well into 2018, I decided to go with this tablet and I am now able to fly again. I've only put the very basic tools on here in order for me to fly my X Star drone again, the drone app also some screen recording apps. It's not a super fast tablet, looking at the specs it won't handle intense gaming well. I have played around with Google Maps that can be graphically intensive and it runs ok..some slight lag but nothing too painful. YouTube video streaming is also fine. It's not loaded with all the bells and whistles, this would be ideal for internet surfing, video watching, again games that are not intense with graphics. And unlike Apple products, I admit the expandable memory is extremely nice. There is a slot on the side where you can insert a larger MicroSD card and add another 32, 64, 128GB to the device. Since these type of memory cards have really come down in price, it's not bad idea to pick one of those up.
