If you want a lightweight and highly portable device with a sumptuous screen that can function as multiple things (a media tablet, a laptop, a phone, an art panel, a note-taking writing tablet), then the Samsung Galaxy S9 Ultra tablet is a fantastic choice. It costs a lot of coin, but the S9 Ultra will probably convince you in short order that it’s worth it once it finishes showcasing its capabilities. It’s a jack-of-all-trades type of device that is powerful, extravagant, and very cool.
_____
*Pros:
-Beautiful 14.6” OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate.
-Android 13 with OneUI runs fast and smoothly.
-Excellent sound from the quad stereo speakers.
-The S-pen writes and tracks accurately.
-Has both facial recognition and a fingerprint sensor.
-Long battery life from the big 11,200 mAh battery.
-Multi-Window multi-taking takes great advantage of the big display.
-5 years of security updates.
-Has a microSD slot.
-IP68.
_____
*Neutral:
-Samsung DeX didn’t work with my 55” Samsung 6 Series TV in wireless mode.
-Didn’t come with any protective case or cover.
-Fingerprint sensor is wonky and unreliable.
_____
*Cons:
-Didn’t come with a wall charger.
=== Design and Build Quality ===
The Galaxy S9 Ultra had me going “Wow” several times as I used it, the first one coming as a knee jerk reaction to its huge size. The S9 Ultra looked and felt really big and at first, I didn’t think it would be comfortable using it as a tablet. Fortunately, I was proven wrong thanks to its well-balanced and well-weighted design and relatively low weight (~1 lb). Even my 8-yo daughter was able to use it without any issues. Samsung performed a minor miracle making a tablet this powerful and feature-packed, while packing in a big battery inside such a svelte device with minimal bezels and solid and rigid in-hand feel.
The second big wow came from looking upon the big and gorgeous 14.6” OLED display. Samsung is really the king when it comes to beautiful and vibrant screens, and the S9 Ultra’s display truly outshines pretty much all the competition. The adaptive brightness feature works seamlessly and well, as does the adaptive motion mode, which automatically adjusts the refresh rate up to 120Hz for buttery smooth transitions and animation effects.
The third wow came from using the S-Pen and all the cool things that’s possible with it. There’s a bit of a learning curve, but the S-Pen can do more than just write and draw. Via Air Command, one can quickly access up to eight of your favorite apps from any screen, and with Air Actions, the S-Pen can be used as a camera shutter button, media playback controller, and a wand to perform air gestures. My 8-yo daughter really enjoyed using the S-Pen for coloring and drawing her cartoon doodles.
Another notable highlight is the quad stereo speakers that sounded better than any laptop speakers, and the best I’ve experienced from a tablet. With great audio and a beautiful display, the S9 Ultra is the ultimate device to binge on Netflix and Youtube videos.
With that said, there were some things I felt Samsung could’ve done better for a product in this price range. For one, Samsung should’ve provided a wall charger instead of providing just a cable. And second, some form of protective cover or case for the glass-heavy tablet would’ve been nice. They are minor knit picks, to be sure, but those things would’ve been a lovely touch.
=== Performance ===
Thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC, 12GB of RAM, and solid state storage, the S9 Ultra runs very fast and snappy with smooth transitions and animations. I’ve been a long-time iPad user, and the S9 Ultra is just as smooth, snappy, and performant.
Samsung’s OneUI Android skin, which is practically identical to OneUI from Samsung phones, is well-optimized and snappy on the S9 Ultra tab – no jankiness, micro-stutters, and lag.
Samsung is already well-known for their multi-window and multi-tasking capabilities from their phones and previous tablets, and the S9 Ultra continues that tradition and does not disappoint. On a big display like this, split-screen multi-tasking totally makes sense, and it saves time and increases efficiency.
The facial recognition unlock works really fast, and the fingerprint sensor, when it’s not acting wonky, also works well.
The front and rear cameras are also very satisfactory and take good pictures and videos.
Whatever it is you’re doing on the S9 Ultra – reading, watching movies, listening to music, editing photos or videos, playing games – it can handle everything you throw at it with ease and aplomb.
=== Is it worth the coin? ===
Yes, if you want the BIGGEST and the BEST Android tablet experience. Samsung has invested a lot of time and money into their hardware and software endeavors throughout the years, and the S9 Ultra tab is the culmination that showcases Samsung’s prowess in several departments – design, display, audio, Android OS, and digital pen. I rate it a solid 4.5 Stars.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is Samsung’s largest tablet out of its newly released S9 lineup. This tablet is aimed as a laptop replacement based on its sheer size and performance specs, while also looking at the professional market with its included S-Pen for productivity tasks. I have ample experience with computers, laptops, chromebooks, and phones but I haven’t purchased my own tablet since 2017 and then messing with my kids tablet here and there.
Using the Ultra has been interesting. I have gotten a decent grasp of some of the features – face unlock, fingerprint reader, and the S-Pen were all new to me. I’ve used it to stream Netflix, play on Xbox Gamepass XCloud, run my Google Home suite of devices, and do a little bit of art.
My experience with the S9 Ultra has been positive. I was surprised at the speed and snappiness of switching and launching new apps. Having several apps running in the background didn’t seem to slow it up at all. About the only time I could get it to push its limits was during some XCloud gaming sessions. The connection to the XCloud was seamless, and connecting my Xbox controller was no issue. I played Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Back 4 Blood while connected to my 6E router. I had a great connection to the service and experienced really smooth gameplay. It was honestly pretty great, but if I had a bunch of apps running in the background I would experience a bit of input lag. However, if I was going for a serious gaming session I would make sure to kill any extra apps like this.
Using the S-Pen was a breeze. It magnetically connects to the black section on the backside of the tablet. It sticks to the backside with the tip facing either direction, but it sticks the best with the tip closest to the camera. This area also charges the pen while it is attached there. I did some light drawing and writing with the pen, and found it to work really well. It was accurate and responsive to my inputs. Screen tracking with the pen is well managed.
Using the tablet I have noticed a number of things to note. Due to the size and dimensions of the tablet, it can be worrying to use while walking around. I honestly live in fear of dropping the tablet while trying to use it one handed – I can’t imagine not springing for a case or cover in the very near future. The tablet dimensions are impressive to me – the size of the screen paired with the thinness is amazing in my eyes. It’s thinner than my phone for crying out loud, and I thought my phone was pretty thin. The thinness makes me think that if I add a cover/case then it still won’t be all that bulky.
Sound quality out of the system speakers was surprisingly powerful. I was thinking that it would be closer to my phone speakers, but it had a lot more kick. Sound quality was good as well. The speakers were clear even at higher volumes. Bass reproduction is lacking, but that is to be expected out of a thin tablet. Watching a movie on Netflix I was perfectly OK using the external speakers.
Overall, the S9 Ultra is an amazing tablet. The size alone is worth the look. Feature wise it has everything that I would want out of a flagship tablet – 6E WiFi, terrific front facing cameras, crisp and clear Super AMOLED screen, expandable storage capacity, and S-Pen. I would absolutely recommend a folio cover or case though. I can’t imagine going for much longer without investing in one.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has made me fall in love with tablets all over again. Not only is it an absolute powerhouse with a gorgeous display, but it packs a ton of very useful features. It's also one of the most beautiful pieces of tech that I've had the opportunity to get my hands on lately. From a design and construction perspective, the S9 Ultra boasts a razer-thin chassis with beautifully chiseled edges. It houses a very sleek and premium aluminum frame and back that is very rigid with almost zero bend (even when applying a lot of pressure). The massive corning gorilla glass screen is a generous 14.6 inches with wafer thin bezels. The S-Pen neatly, and magnetically, nestles into a dedicated S-pen slot that's integrated into the back frame of the tablet. The entire package looks like a work of art.
I've used several tablets from both of the well known ecosystems and after using the S9 Ultra, in terms of the full package, I'm convinced that it's currently the best tablet on the market. The careful UI design that went into the S9's Android OS is simply on another level. For example, I love how Samsung has thoughtfully placed the navigation bar with the home, back, and recents shortcuts in a small footprint at the bottom right corner of the tablet. This makes it so that you can easily and effortlessly reach over as you're using the tablet. This seems like a small thing but it's a big deal in practice when using a screen of this size. I've also had a blast using the S-Pen on the S9 Ultra (I also like that the pen comes included and you don't have to buy it separately like with some other competitors). Since I already use an S22 Ultra as my primary phone, I'm happy to report that the S-Pen on the S9 Ultra brings all the same features we've come to know and love. Having the ability to instantly crop images or text using "Smart Select" or being able to instantly select an image to impose your own hand-written captions using "Screen Write" is something that has become part of my daily life. I think having these features on a tablet for productivity work is immensely valuable and has become a must for me at this point. Also, if you're already invested in the Android ecosystem, you're going to love some of the native features found on the S9 Ultra like "QuickShare". Quickshare allows you to seamlessly and instantly share images, videos, and files between your Samsung phone and the S9 Ultra. Another great feature is the "Call & text on other devices" option. This allows you to link the S9 ultra to your Samsung phone and allows you to send/receive calls and text messages directly from your tablet. However, this feature does not work with Verizon and AT&T phones which was a bit of a disappointment.
In terms of performance, the S9 Ultra with it's Qualcomm snapdragon 8 gen 2 processor has been flawless. The Qualcomm Adreno 740 GPU with ray tracing is also equally as impressive. I benchmarked it by running Wildlife on 3D Mark and it scored a whopping 14,656 with an average framerate of 87.76 (see screenshot). This is amongst the best scores that you can get on a flagship today. To test real-world performance, I fired up Alien Isolation and paired my PS5 dualsense controller via bluetooth to the S9 Ultra. The gaming experience was nothing short of amazing. Graphics looked stunning, there was no noticeable lag between the S9 ultra and my wireless dualsense controller, and the game ran at about 35-65 FPS with the highest graphical setting option selected. Considering that this is a very graphically demanding game, I was very happy with the performance. For more conventional tasks like browsing the internet, watching videos, listening to podcasts/music, etc., the S9 Ultra effortlessly devoured everything in it's path. Closing and opening applications is very snappy. Toggling between applications and navigating through different menus within the apps feels incredibly fluid thanks to the 120hz AMOLED 2X display. It's a bit difficult to describe but whenever I use the S9 Ultra, it's so fast and snappy that it almost feels as if it knows what you're going to do before you do it on the actual display. The touch registration on the display is just that fast.
The S9 Ultra has features that deservedly earn it the title of being Samsung's current flagship tablet. The display is by far my favorite part of the tablet. The 14.6 Dynamic AMOLED 2x 120 HZ truly is a display that must be experienced in person to truly appreciate it. It's the best display I've ever used on any mobile device. Being an AMOLED 2X with support for HDR 10 plus, you get true black levels that are deep and inky. Color accuracy has also been improved with the AMOLED 2X display over its predecessor whereby colors were a bit oversaturated. Colors are still vibrant and vivid but skin tones and warmer colors seem to be represented more accurately. The resolution is an extremely high 2960 x 1848 which makes 4k and QHD content look phenomenal. Images are crisp and crystal clear. I also love that unlike other flagship tablets currently on the market, videos take up the entire screen giving you an immersive experience. The sound on the S9 Ultra is also very impressive. The tablet comes with AKG tuned quad firing speakers with Dolby Atmos support. These things get loud! Not only that, but the highs and mids are very crisp with very minimal distortion. The low frequency has a bit of boominess to it without any distortion either. The only thing to watch out for is where you place your hands while holding the tablet. I have noticed that when I'm holding the tablet, my fingers will occasionally cover the speakers. When this happens the sound will distort due to your fingers trapping the sound. When I first noticed it, I thought it was maybe the volume level causing the distortion but then I quickly realized that it was due to my hands covering the speaker. If you notice any type of audio distortion, watch those fingers!
Overall, this is the best tablet I've ever used. Because of it's ability to function both as a productivity powerhouse and a top tier media content device, it will be accompanying me on all of my travel. I also haven't even mentioned how this S9 Ultra is IP68 certified (dust/water resistant), has an expandable microsd card slot, has a fantastic camera, and also has an incredible 11,200 mAh battery. I played a full hour long session of Alien Isolation and still had a whopping 87% of battery left! After my time using the S9 Ultra, I highly recommend picking up the smart cover accessory. Not only does it fit like a glove, but the built-in stand is really sturdy. The magnetic cover for the S-pen is also brilliant (see pictures). If you're looking for a high performance tablet with one of the best displays on the market, I highly urge you consider the S9 Ultra.

Went from a Tab S9FE to this Ultra and I LOOOVE IT! I was able to grab this Tab Ultra for a really good price here on BB. It was a "deal of the day" thing. I was able to trade my S9FE as well.
I have a 10+ year old 13.3" laptop which it still good for basic computing and media but I wanted to give this HUGE tablet a try and so far I'm really enjoying it. Not windows but I can adjust and for the daily computer usage I am doing this Android tablet will do. Screen is totally great. Speakers are great well. (My wife's iPad pro 12.9 Gen 4 still has the best sounding speakers IMO). But for the user experience. I do like the Android or Samsung experience since I am not a Apple user (that's my wife side! LOL!) I do have a S23 Ultra as my phone so this phone/tablet combo will do me just fine. Expandable storage is a plus for me! The included S-Pen is also a plus. For me this is my go to Tablet. The only downside are some of the apps for this specific tablet size format are not yet available and I don't think it will ever be since Apps are really biased towards Apple products. But I can still go to the website and still have the same experience and that's not a big deal for me.
I'm glad I went ahead and got this Ultra (Again for a very good price).
If you shop around and wait patiently maybe you can also snag a very good deal of this awesome tablet! You wont be disappointed!

I recently got the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, and I am extremely satisfied with this device! The 14.6" display is absolutely stunning, featuring vibrant colors and impressive clarity that make everything from streaming movies to browsing the web a pleasure. The large screen is perfect for multitasking, allowing me to run multiple apps side by side without feeling cramped.
The included S-Pen is a fantastic addition, providing a natural writing experience that’s perfect for taking notes or sketching. The responsiveness of the pen is excellent, making it feel like I'm writing on paper. The tablet’s performance is top-notch, powered by a robust processor and ample 256GB storage, ensuring smooth operation for both productivity and gaming.
Battery life is impressive as well, easily lasting throughout the day on a single charge. I also appreciate the sleek and lightweight design, making it portable and easy to carry around.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a powerful and versatile tablet that exceeds expectations. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality device for work, play, or creativity!

Had the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra for about a week now and it has continuously impressed me. It keeps showing me new ways to use and utilize it. I am very familiar with Android and have always been team Android. Samsung has only recently won me back over to their product line. And clearly they have stepped up their game and this tablet is a winner. Ultra thin, SD card expansion, Atmos audio, battery life, powerful processor and plenty of RAM to multitask. It's quite bit more than just a massive phone.
So, initially I set it up similar to my phone and all the regular social media, media consumption, internet and gaming stuff is here. It's beyond that where you can make use of the Ultra or even the other smaller S9 tablets in the Samsung lineup if you think the Ultra is too much. Multitasking on the Ultra for adults is possible. Larger screen for large fingers and older eyes is much easier and more enjoyable. Oddly, some apps are hidden for some reason (not in app drawer) and only reveal themselves when you use the tablet enough so that it suggests a new capability. One hidden app it revealed is "Daily Board". This app has been a favorite for me. It's basically an AOD (always on display) type app or Screensaver function. Many ways to use, clock, slideshow, weather. But for me it let's me have my music app always up and usable without the need or worry of screen burn-in or always needing to re-wake the screen. Not a huge thing for most, but it's a superior feature for me. And of course there is DEX. DEX gives the familiarity of a PC like layout for those who prefer a more Windows like experience. It is very nice having this extra built in feature. It is still Android, but for many it might make using a tablet for productive apps that are more than Candy Crush easier. Still learning and looking into what else it can do.
Overall it's been a very favorable experience using the tablet. The S pen is very user friendly and fun to use. Battery life is well beyond what I though was possible for a device so light with so much beautiful OLED real estate. Five days use before I needed to charge it back up with moderate daily use is amazing. My only gripe so far is that they don't include even the most basic folio cover. There are covers available from Samsung and the aftermarket is still ramping up since the previous ultra tab was slightly different in the camera shape. I am sure future promos will include some sort of cover to protect this device will become mandatory for the longevity of the tablet.

Amazing to travel to anywhere and be able to watch tv or play games not on a phone screen. Awesome they let you put what size cards you want. Taking that away from phones really bites! As well as the aux cable input for cars that don't have Bluetooth! Sorry, but I LOVE this S9, I was waiting to buy one and finally picked this from the Samsung galaxy, which is where I always shop, sorry everyone else. You should buy for very fast screen flipping, transferring files is extremely fast due to the card, music sounds great even without having extra-large speakers, I recently got a touch screen laptop and that made using the tablet easier to use, the battery lasts for 12 hours no matter what I was doing on it, picture is pristine-which means a great deal when you only have 3/4 vision.
All across an amazing and extremely easy to use.

I own the S8 Ultra. It's still one of the best premium tablets out there. It's overkill to be upgrading to the S9 Ultra.
The additional keyboard is expensive at $350+ and I'm not upgrading since the S9 doesn't accept the S8 keyboard.
S8 Ultra has Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
S9 Ultra has Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
With S8U, RAM ranges from 8GB to 12GB (depending on model)
With S9U, RAM ranges sfrom 12 GB to 16GB
What's attractive about the S9 Ultra, is that their highest model provides 1 TB and also now IP68 water splash rating (I wouldn't dunk in water though; it's really annoying getting that moisture warning to go away even if you think it's dry)
