    Great Fitness Tracker

I went back and forth over whether this was 4 stars or 5, but I ultimately landed on 5 because I feel like this watch excels based on the identity it was designed to have and the price point it was designed at. No, this might not be the most feature-packed smart watch out there. There's no speaker/microphone so it can't play music or place/make phone calls without you physically using your phone, but at $200, it wasn't meant to. It's the Galaxy Watch Active and I think it really nails the Active part. It's small, simple, super light and easy to forget it's there. It automatically tracks a large number of workouts, it's swim-proof, and it also tracks a bevy of other physical things like pulse, stress, sleep, weight, calories, caffeine, water intake, etc. I don't know what else you can track without having something much more invasive hooked to your body. Because of this, I'd call this more of a fitness tracker than a smart watch. Since it DOES still have a lot of smart watch features like notifications, texting, calendars, weather, email, Samsung Pay, etc, etc, etc, I'd say it's one very full-featured fitness tracker, thus the 5 stars. I've never used other fitness trackers or smart watches, but this one checks all my boxes. Small side note: some people have complained about the phone app and editing settings from there, but I like it because it's a much bigger screen, which makes changing things so much quicker and easier. The only cons I can think of is that battery life is about 2 days at most (I could turn some features off, but then what's the point? @@@@@@@ and I wish there were more watch faces, or that the ones that are on it had more colors. TL;DR: Feature-packed fitness tracker that does everything that it says it will, well. Battery life could be a little better.

Great watch for active person, or want to be!!

Great watch if you are an active person, or on the road to be. Had this watch about a week now, having never had a smartwatch before. At first I found the watch a bit on the feminine side, but it has defintely grown on me. I wish the watch face was bigger, but I bet it saves on battery consumption. It is very easy to setup, I am on a LG v30, and it was pretty easy to setup, via Samsung Wearables app, and Samsung Health app for general tracking. Battery life on the watch itself isn't too bad. The more you look at the watch, receive notifications, it will drain faster. I am a very active person. I walk a few miles a day in the middle of the day, then workout for about an hour. If I charge the phone to 100 right before bed, and moderately check notifications, by the time I go to bed again I am at around 65% on the battery. My hardest workout days are one day a week, I have an early 1 hour swim fit class, and I was thrilled that this watch caught every single lap of swimming! You first set the watch to track swimming, and it will set a mode on the watch so it doesn't turn the screen on, or accidentally register a splash as you touching the screen, or hitting a button on the face. This watch is rated as being water resistance of 164 feet, but don't go pressing either of the two physical buttons on it. When you are done with that swim mode I mentioned, the watch even reminds you to shake the water off before using again. Probably because moisture might get in via those physical buttons. I do shower with the watch on, without putting on that water mode, and noticed when warm water hits the watch it does register it as a touch. I have the "gesture" mode on the watch set to off, as otherwise when you move your arm up to look at the watch, it will turn the screen on, which often turns into it to turning the screen on just walking around, or lifting weights. Touching the screen makes the watch "wake up". Ok, back to my hardest workout day of the week . I then walk about 8 miles in the middle of the day, and by this point, my battery is fairly low, around 35-40%. Then, my last 1 hour workout of the day, after that I am down maybe 20% or so. Not too bad overall, considering it is tracking steps, GPS, and heart rate during all that time. What is bad, is the Samsung Health app on my phone. Not only will it not sync with Google Fit, MapMyRide, or anything other than Strava. The Samsung Health app is a serious battery drainer on Android. Prior to installation of Samsung Health, on my LG v30, I had alot better battery life. This isn't a deal breaker, and battery life did improve a little once uninstalling Google Fit, but it is something to be aware of. Ok. . so on to tracking my workouts. if you don't actualy start a workout activity, there are nearly 100 of them there to choose from, the watch will realize after about 5-10 minutes that you are being active and try to figure out what you are doing. First workout I did, was alot of plyometric jump training, and I didn't start an actual track for that activity, and the watch started one for me, called "Dynamic Training". The next few workouts, I would just start it myself, as this is the most accurate way to track it. I love that it tracks my heart rate as I am working out, EVEN WHILE SWIMMING, and even senses when I take a break, asking if I am done, or if I should continue. For me, I workout at home, and usually take way too many breaks until I got this watch. Now I am encouraged to KEEP GOING, so the tracker doesn't ask me that, and I can see that I am getting a better, and faster workout because of it! For me, this is worth the asking price alone!! It is a fitness MOTIVATOR!! Other side notes. . You can control music playing on your phone via, play, pause, skip track, volume up/down, and it shows you the art on the watch face. Also you get notifications for texts, and emails if you want it too. You can also shut that off per app on the phone, within the Samsung Wearables app itself. I don't like to get annoyed by emails all day, so I only have it set to notify me on my watch for text messages. It shows the person texting you, and, I really like that I can respond back via voice to the watch! It was fairly accurate the few times I did use this while I was out walking. I have not tried typing on the watch, but there is an option for it. So far so good with this watch. I highly recommend it if you don't need all the features of much more expensive smartwatches, and are either looking to inspire yourself to be more active, or push it even further!

Battery life for me with minimal usage has been 1.25 days far under the 2 days advertised. I have the heart rate set to every 10 minutes too and a black watch face. I was also disappointed to find that it takes a solid 2 hours to charge so pick between sleep tracking or time/notification/step counting. FYI for others. . it is qi compatible for charging but you still need special qi chargers for the galaxy watches. Its a little disappointing I have to tell myself to not play with it because the battery wont last a day if I do. For good: I finally have a reason to use bixby, it works great for texting via watch. No rotating bezel hasnt been an issue for me. This is a very comfortable watch and fits great on my skinny arms. Finally you can have a lot of smart functionality in a small watch that doesnt have to stand out. Im almost thinking I should buy a second one so one can be charging while one is being worn. The price is really good for what you get overall

You just cant beat this watch for the price and functionality! Wearable techs that have similar feature just cost so much more. I ended up preordering two, one for the wife and one for myself. Oh boy, this thing seriously just disappears on your wrist. It's so light that you'd forget you have it on you! Great build quality, images are sharp and so far the screens transition so smoothly from one to the next. The watch faces are highly customizable. It also has NFC built in so you can pay with SamsungPay on the go. All around great tech and best bang for the buck. Users be warned using the watch during any type of water involved activities. You HAVE to turn on water mode before getting it wet regardless of the water resistant rating. : @@@@@@@

I like this watch. It does not have a speaker...I don't care because I'm not into having other people hear my conversations or music Battery life is ok I charge it every 1.5 days.... It could let you view more things on the watch instead it sends you to the phone...but it's not a huge deal It's small enough for little wrist that don't like the big smart watches The could have used more of the watch face it has a pretty thick black edge that does nothing but it's a nice watch for the price.

I spent a month using a Galaxy Watch with an S10+. I switched to the Galaxy from an iPhone and purchased the Galaxy Watch Active to replace my Apple Watch Series 3. I was debating between the flagship Galaxy Watch and the Active. I eventually chose the Active because I mainly use a smartwatch for fitness and prefer the design and form factor of the Active. One thing I never liked as an Apple Watch owner was the boring, square, utilitarian design of the Apple Watch. The smooth and stylish round face of the Active looks much better than my old Apple Watch and even slightly better than the Galaxy Watch IMO. Its very unobtrusive and blends in with your wardrobe without standing out. The Active gives me pretty good battery life. I get just about two days off a charge. I strictly use the watch for fitness. I don't use it for playing music, GPS navigation or non-fitness related apps. The processor is snappy enough for my needs. The OLED display is nice and crisp. The interface is not the most intuitive to operate and the omission of the rotating bezel makes it even tougher. That's one of my gripes. The screen is bright enough for most uses but can wash out and disappear in very bright sunlight, even at max brightness. Performance-wise, I'd heard complaints about the step counter being inaccurate. I believe I got lucky because I compared the Active to my old iPhone, my S3 Apple Watch, my work phone (S8+) and even a stand-alone pedometer. It was consistent among all devices in tests, including the pedometer. I'm comfortable with it. The band is soft, very comfortable and easy to clean. The watch ships with two bands, short and long. The grey and silver combo may appear boring at first glance but it looks really nice on the wrist and matches any outfit worn. The silver case is also versatile enough to match any color or style band you throw at it. You can place and answer calls from the watch but not hold conversations from it. That's because it does not have a speaker and is another of my gripes. Whenever you make or answer calls, it simply says continue on handset. Call place/reject can be useful, but only if you have earbuds or some other type of secondary external audio device to handle calls handsfree. Otherwise, you may as well just use the phone. I don't normally place lengthy calls through a smartwatch but it was very convenient to have the ability to make, answer and even have a very brief phone conversation when necessary on my Apple Watch. Another thing that irked me about this watch was the debacle with the blood pressure monitoring. In the weeks leading up to launch, the Active was being touted as the only smartwatch capable of monitoring blood pressure. I personally know people who bought the watch specifically and almost solely for that reason. What they got instead was lots of frustration. The app was delayed and is only compatible with certain phones. It also requires users participate in a research program and share their data. After going through the delays and agreeing to participate in the study, many users are reporting glitches, shaky reliability and wildly inaccurate results. I know people who decided to pass on installing the app for that reason. If this was supposed to be an answer to the new Apple Watch ECG feature, it failed big time. A lot of people actually returned the watch after the blood pressure monitoring turned out to be such a huge disappointment. I personally like the Active, particularly the styling. The best feature of the watch is by far the price. I realize the trade-offs will very likely be too numerous for some and the blood pressure ordeal left a bad taste for many who pre-ordered. I also saw that the flagship Galaxy Watches were recently on sale for $50 off. That only further complicates the decision making process. I personally can live with the trade-offs, although some are definitely more irksome than others. I consider the Active more of an activity tracker than a smartwatch, hence its name. As long as those are the expectations going in, there is likely to be far lest disappointment. So to sum all this up in two sentences: * If you want a true smartwatch comparable to an Apple Watch, buy the Galaxy Watch. @@@@@ If you primarily want an activity tracker that will also give you alerts and limited apps, buy the Active.

Not new to this rodeo. I've previously used Pebble, then the original Huawei Android Wear watch for over three years. I tried using the LG Watch Style as an athletic watch but the battery life was terrible. When I saw Samsung was releasing the Galaxy Watch Active I was intrigued because it was waterproof to 50m. I preordered the green as the price was worth the try. The watch arrived and first, it's not green, it's aqua blue. Still though, a nice color. Having not had a prior Galaxy model, I don't miss the moving bezel which some are knocking it for. I really like the watch. The activities work well, the battery life is pretty good, usually at night the watch is only at 50% battery life. My ONLY knock on the watch, which I called Samsung on is that after 3 weeks the watch band started looking like a snake shedding its skin. Samsung says that is not covered under the warranty and then asked if I've worn it in water. HELLO it's waterproof! So between the band and the color (still not green), I've removed a star.

Let start out this review by saying this watch is fantastic. The price point is perfect, the size is great, and it truly matches up to its "active" name. I purchased this watch because it's smaller than all of the other Galaxy watches and has a fitness focus which I tend to exploit tremendously in the gym. It syncs beautifully with my Note 9 and I have no issues without the rotating bevel. My ONLY issue, which happens to be a major one, is durability. I pre-ordered the watch and picked it up in the evening Friday. I wore it all day Saturday to the gym and to run errands. After the gym I was happy to see there were no scratches or dings, especially since either babied the watch the entire time. As the day went on, the face already has a scratch in the center. It's not a large scratch but it can still be seen and felt. It's important to note that I babied the watch the ENTIRE day. It's unfortunate because if the watch scratches that easily throughout regular day wear I am extremely concerned wearing it in the gym. Still a great watch with awesome features, but the durability is why I give it two stars.

It is a good fitness band/watch with GPS/Heart rate monitor. You cannot make calls with this thing as even though it has micro phone it lacks a speaker. Yes, you can connect it with a Bluetooth headset and in that case, call goes to that, but that functionality is not there on iPhone, only on Android. You get Phone, Contacts & Samsung Pay when you sync it with an Android, these options are not available when you connect it with iPhone. I checked the app store and as of today, there are very few applications and the best health app you can use is Samsung Health, which itself is pretty good but if you are already using some app it may get some time and you will lose your progress. The Samsung Health App is mediocre at best on iOS, it kept telling me that there is no wearable device; though the galaxy app was showing the watch as connected. So, if you are using an iPhone, I will stay clear from it or wait till proper support is there. I have still given it 4 stars as it all works wonderfully on any Android device. The sync is seamless, all details is shown correctly the interface is good. Please note that If you are used to of using some fitness app, Samsung OS might not have it as this is not android wear it is Samsung own Tizen. Tizen is not bad, there are lots of faces to download and some of them are pretty good. Battery life is decent with location off, though goes down by EOD if GPS is on (Which is standard considering the battery size). Charger is magnetic wireless, and no hassle. I think the size is perfect for people with small - medium wrists and is very light weight. The band is smooth and seems to be good quality. There is one extra L size band included in the box along with a charger. I have been testing this for over a week now with iPhone, and the only thing which I really thing missing is the support to make calls from the watch it self. Yesterday I synced it with Android (do note that the watch will reset when you change phones so make sure you have backup your data). It connects to your phone (Apple/Android), and can alert you in case of notifications, which is handy as you can silent your phone and still get notification. It auto detects your workout, walking, running, cycling. Tizen interface is very responsive and the applications I used, they all worked as intended and I had no issues using them. It was very pleasant to use, full marks there. To conclude, it is a very nice-looking premium feel watch which works great with an Android phone. So, 5 stars for that. iPhone experience is half baked at best; so, 3 stars for that. Decide based on which phone family you come from. Recommended for Android users.

This is my first smart watch from Samsung, so I honestly can't compare it to the previous Galaxy watches, but I can say I am super happy with the watch so far. The design is clean and eye catching, and the UI functions smooth and snappy despite the loss of the rotating bezel. Battery life seems to be pretty solid and I was able to make it nearly two days on a single full charge. Feature wise it's definitely a good fit for anyone looking for fitness or sleep tracking while not dealing with the feeling of a heavy watch upon your wrist all day/night. The noticeable feeling of wearing this watch fades away pretty quickly, and I have not had it interfere with any daily activities as some larger watches can. The two included bands offer a solid range for wrist sizes, and of course additional sizes/colors/textures are available for purchase as well. It is important to note that there is no speaker built into this watch, so you cannot use it for music or calls directly, but it does work fine as a remote for spotify etc if you have a different audio source. As I would not really want to listen to music from a watch, or broadcast my private phone calls anyway, the lack of a speaker doesn't bother me personally. There is not currently support for third party apps, however you can enable notifications from pretty much every app on your phone, and third party messaging apps (LINE, Messenger, etc) do allow you to respond directly from the watch. Pros: 1) Super light weight. I can easily wear it in bed without any discomfort 2) Beautiful screen 3) Simple and elegant style 4) Lots of features 5) Fitness features are pretty accurate Cons: 1) Screen could be a little big bigger, bezel occupies too much space on the screen. Sometime it makes it difficult to interact 2) No out of the box support for Google maps 3) Battery - It lasts around 24 hours on normal use. Wonder what will happen when it gets older. Two hours for full charge with magnetic charger 4) Lack of native watch apps like water reminder, weather info (the existing one is not really native, it relies on phone) All in all, I highly recommend this watch for anyone looking to pick up a solid smart watch for a reasonable price that is still packed with tons of features you would expect from a more expensive option. It is comfortable, stylish, and functional.

Price is great, but that's about it. If they made this thing bigger with a stronger processor, then heck yeah! Noticable lag on software compared to the Galaxy Watch line. Too small, not for guys, this thing is a ladies watch. I ended up returning this and got the Galaxy Watch 46mm instead.

This is my first smart / fitness watch. I've found it to be very comfortable and have a lot of entry type features. I can check my heart rate, "stress levels", log steps walked, time holding planks, doing yoga, cycling (and many other specific fitness activities), log water intake, check the weather, receive notice of text messages and phone calls (even from my iPhone), and more. I love the style - it is so pretty and feminine. There are also Samsung fitness challenges one can join. I'm still learning about many features. They say that blood pressure monitoring may be possible in future software releases. Sleep is also tracked automatically. I like that positive feedback is given when walks are started, etc. The watch also prompts one to move if it detects long periods of inactivity. The downsides I've found are battery life -- if using the full color mode, the battery only lasts ~2 days. Also one can use power saver mode, and the battery lasts longer, however, one cannot access all the apps in power saver mode -- only check the time, track steps. Charging is fast (~1-2 hrs) and perhaps not 'perfect' exercise/sleep logging. I still wear an old fitbit and am comparing steps logged and sleep. The two devices so far are quite similar. I'm used to the fitbit app, so still like that for looking at sleep/steps. The Samsung app seems to be fairly comparable, and ever evolving. Overall, I like this watch a lot and recommend it if folks are aware of the limitations. For the price point, I think it is great.

It is good looking watch. But compared to the Gear S3 has some big limitations. The battery runs out really fast - 24 hours! Can not take calls on the watch - must use the phone. But has good health tracking features and it has lighter weight and easier to use. The price is reasonable for the features.

I've been wanting a smart watch for awhile. I was watching the Galaxy but didn't want to spent 300+ for a watch. This was in the perfect price range to get my feet wet in the smart watch pool. The abilities are on point for the price range. It's so comfortable and very cute. It's easy to use and there's no issues with it communicating with the App. I use to own a fitbit but after years of issues with it connecting to it's own fitbit app I just gave up on fitbit. I don't foresee that being an issue with samsung. Only issue is the following: I pre-ordered for the promotional gift which is a wireless charger. The website to register is buggy and it also says my Serial number was already registered. I'm hoping that's just a glitch because this is a brand new watch from Best Buy and would have had to be fraud on someone's part. I'm in contact with Samsung and their customer support is something I"m on the fence about. I was on the phone for 1.5 waiting to talk to a rep she answered and pretended she couldn't hear me and then hung up. Then I got connected to chat. He couldn't confirm if the serial number had been registered yet or not but forwarded on my issue and said I would get an email in 5 days. We shall see.

I had been using A Samsung Gear Fit Pro, it finally failed after several years of rough use. I saw the Galaxy active on sale for the same price as another Gear Fit Pro at regular price. I decided to give the Galaxy Active a try, I am glad I did, it does so much more than the Gear Fit Pro, it is also much more accurate on the readings and sleep functions as well as music and GPS tracking. The battery life is better too. It is lighter and the display is much lager and easier to read.

I can honestly say that I love this smartwatch. While it's battery life may leave some people wishing for one of the larger, more expensive watches in the Galaxy line, or a less expensive, dedicated fitness tracker, it's not really that much of a concern. I keep the wireless charger base next to where I sit in the evenings, and just charge it to full before bed. On that charge, the watch will last well over 24 hours, though that time depends on what settings you have active, and whether you use it's different app capabilities. Like a lot of smartwatches with fitness elements, at default it will remind you to get up and get moving after an hour of inactivity on weekdays, during 'active' hours. It will also automatically recognize and record any activity that results in you moving your arms, even something as simple as gestures with one's hand during an extended conversation. There are a lot of little things to love about the Galaxy Watch Active. When receiving messages and texts, you can reply using preset responses, use the touchscreen to actually write the letters one at a time, or say your response aloud. It also has lots of little options for personalizing the watch to suit your tastes or situation, from the brightness of the screen, the various modes you can enable(like goodnight mode, which disables alerts and the watch face while you sleep, or theater mode, which retains alerts, but disables the watch face while active), and the look of the watch face itself. Additionally, with many of the built-in watch faces you can customize those still further based on the information you want readily available at a glance. If you're in the market for a device that will let you track your activity and sleep, or just function as a sleek backup to your phone and keep you from needing to pull it out as often, this is a great option.

For nearly the same price of a Charge 3, this Samsung Active is the much better choice. I have an S3 Frontier, and just picked up the Active on release day. It is VERY comfortable, and tends to disappear on the wrist. Some web sites complain that the rotating bezel is not included, but that exclusion is barely missed by me ad I appreciate the smoother form factor. In fact, I used to try to sleep with the Charge 3 on my wrist, but it just has too many sharp edges. This watch is much easier to keep on your wrist at night. As for battery life, I'm getting about a full day and a half. The screen is responsive, easy to touch, and crisp. Heart rate has been within a beat or two of other devices and workout machines. This is a great product by Samsung. Its price is very attractive, functionality superb, comfort great, and battery life excellent. Great choice in exercise watch. IMHO, beats the Charge 3 and Versa.

This watch is ok if you are just looking for a stylish smartwatch at a decent price and you don't care about the fitness tracking. I found that the calorie counting, step tracking and sleep tracking were not accurate. For example, it had me sleeping at 8:50pm and I didn't go to bed until almost 10. The battery life is very poor. Even with battery optimize feature on I was lucky to get two days out of a charge. I also don't like the watch band because it tucks in under the band instead of on top. It makes it much more difficult to take on and off plus it is not very comfortable when you are working out. Also, as far as the smartwatch functions I found that sometimes I received notifications and sometimes I didn't. I returned the watch and purchased one that is more geared toward accurate fitness tracking with a far better battery life. Hopefully Samsung will make improvements to this watch in the future,

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
