My first smartwatch. After exhaustive research of Garmin and Samsung products I decided to go with Samsung. Beautiful bright easy to read display in all light conditions, logical user interface and apps that are easy to download. Customization of the watch face is quick and intuitive. The watch needs to be charged every day even though all health features and always on display is not enabled.

A Samsung gem on your wrist for all occasions

I’ll start off by saying that I am a Samsung phone owner and have owned previous versions of the Samsung Galaxy watches. I started off many years ago with the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active and I am impressed to see the strides that Samsung has made since then. With that being said, the improvements from the Watch4 to the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 aren’t the biggest of jumps. However, they are enough to excite me about this latest iteration. Let’s start out with the appearance. The Watch5 hasn’t changed much from the Watch4 at first glance, but when looking closer one will notice one big thing. Samsung changed the style of the sensor on the bottom and it’s definitely for the better. Things are rounded more for a “slight bump” that creates a closer contact to the wrist. I have noticed that I haven’t been told to adjust it for a better reading like I have before. This lends itself to better accuracy for tracking too. The change on the top isn’t as noticeable and that’s because Samsung has changed the face to be covered with a sapphire crystal glass for more durability. As someone that tends to wear their watch while doing everything, I am very happy with that. I remember scratching a previous model easily and I was bummed. Just knowing that I have a little more support here really makes me feel more comfortable when weightlifting, working in the yard, or doing other heavy duty activities. Shifting to the inside, the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 carries the same processor and RAM as its predecessor. However, they did do a slight enlargement on the battery. It’s not a huge increase, but I have noticed the difference. Previously, I felt like I had to charge it at the end of the day or I wouldn’t make it through the night. That’s not the case now. With my usage, I can definitely get 36-40 hours easily. I haven’t pushed it beyond that just yet, but that’s only because I sit right next to the charger. That’s another place where Samsung made a nice upgrade. The pad is smaller to accommodate that rounded back and the plug is now a USB-C. It is definitely designed for quick charging and that is great. Even if you don’t have time to fully charge it, you can expect to gain just over a percent per minute. That’s what I have experienced and am pleased with that. Lastly, the added ability to have Google Assistant and Google apps is a huge win. Bixby is nice, but Google Assistant is a lot better. A very welcomed addition there. All in all, I am a big fan of the Samsung Galaxy Watch5. I use it to track my exercises, sleep, and many other health traits. I find Samsung’s ability to do so is top notch. The improvements of the sensor and battery will greatly help me in these areas too. Of course, all of that syncs beautifully with my Samsung phone. Beyond that, the sleek design makes it acceptable for business/dress attire on top of everyday wear. I look forward to seeing what future updates may bring, but for now, this is still the best Android watch on the market right now that doesn’t have a rotating bezel.

I love this watch. The Galaxy Watch 5 is not my first smartwatch. It’s not my first WearOS watch. But it is my first Galaxy Watch. And, I have been impressed. The screen responsiveness is great. I love the amount of storage I have compared to my other WearOS watch for apps and dials. Integration with my Samsung Galaxy phone has been easy. After a week of wear, I only have a few nitpicks. This watch has been great. For those looking for a smart watch to compliment their Galaxy or Android phone, I think the Watch 5 is an easy recommendation. Inside the box, you will find the watch and a charging cable. Note, the charging cable uses USB-C instead of the more common USB-A. You will need a USB-C wall adapter, Samsung Galaxy phone, or a computer with available USB-C port to charge the watch. Charging is super quick. A full charge from 20% took me under an hour using Samsung’s 25w USB-C wall charger. One of my few nitpicks is that the watch supports wireless charging, but not QI wireless charging. In a pinch, I can charge the watch wirelessly from my Samsung Galaxy S22, but I can’t place the watch on my Qi Wireless charging pad and have it charge. I wish the watch supported the more common wireless charging standard. Setup is super easy. You will need to download the Galaxy Wearable app. The app does a good job of walking you through the installation process and updating the firmware on the watch if needed. Assistant integration has been super helpful. Personally, I prefer Google Assistant to Bixby. Thankfully, Google Assistant integration was great and with a few settings changes, I was able to use Google Assistant by default. Alexa integration is non-existent. You can download an Alexa app, but, in my experience, it crashed every few hours and seemed to drain my battery a good deal. But, Google assistant has been super easy. I can turn off my smart outlets and change my AC thermostat from my wrist. Speaking of battery life, The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 has the best battery of any Wear OS watch I have owned. This is my third WearOS watch. Battery life has been between two and three days on a full charge with the Galaxy Watch 5. Again, if you’re using battery intensive apps, your watch life may vary. There are battery saver modes. Syncing data to and from the watch is super easy. Pressing both buttons, I can save a watch screenshot that then shows up on my phone. I can open phone apps from my watch. I can easily sync health and footstep data with my Samsung phone. When it comes to fitness and health data, the watch can gather a lot of information. Together with my phone, the watch has an ECG feature to check for Atrial Fibrillation. I took my dog for a jog and the watch could tell when I started a workout and when it ended. As a fitness tracker, this has been one of the best watches I have had. One of my favorite features is the water lock. I found myself in a rain storm the other day and was glad I had the water lock. I got drenched, but my watch was fine. Turning off the water lock, the speaker vibrates and causes the watch to eject water. The silicone strap is clever. The excess strap pushes under the strap keeping the end of the strap from catching on things. I like the silicone band that comes with the watch, but if you want to jazz up the watch even more, you can get extra bands from Samsung. But, as far as I can tell, any 20mm band should work. I have a couple on order as we speak! Conclusion: I think a lot of Android users have had Apple Watch Envy (I’m making this a thing… go with it). I’ve enjoyed my other WearOS watches, but they always came with performance or battery life problems. I can't compare the Galaxy Watch 5 to prior Galaxy watches, but compared to every other smartwatch I have owned, the Galaxy Watch 5 is my favorite smart watch. Apps perform well. Battery life has been good. Charging time is quick. Interface is intuitive. I wish there was Qi wireless charging, but that’s really been my only nitpick. I think this is a great watch for Samsung Galaxy phone owners or other Android folks looking for a good smartwatch . If you’re on the fence, pick one up. I know you won’t regret it. 5/5

I recently purchased the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Aluminum Smartwatch 44mm in Silver, and I am thoroughly impressed. This smartwatch not only looks fantastic with its sleek, modern design and bright, clear display, but it also packs a ton of features that help me stay connected and manage my day efficiently. The health tracking capabilities are top-notch. The watch provides detailed insights into my sleep patterns, heart rate, and even body composition, which are incredibly helpful for maintaining my wellness goals. The GPS is precise, making it an excellent tool for tracking my runs and outdoor activities without having to carry my phone. The battery life is impressive, lasting through a busy day with notifications, music control, and workout tracking. The fast charging feature is a lifesaver, quickly getting me back on track when I'm in a hurry. The user interface is intuitive and responsive. Navigating through apps and features is smooth, and the customizable watch faces allow me to tailor the look to suit my style or mood. The Battery Life isn't as strong as expected. Have problems with some features such as getting notification on the watch and connecting to my Google accounts. Doesn't seems to be a huge difference with Galaxy Watch 4. The Galaxy Watch 5 Charge is different from other Galaxy watch and requires an extra cable to purchase.

COMFORT It's probably worth noting I have yet to own any watch. I only recently felt any interest in them and I wanted to wait for the right one. I've always been a fan of Samsung products for a very long time so it only made sense. Comfort has always been very important to me since I don't tend to like to wear anything. I was actually quite surprised with just how comfortable the watch is. I have hairy arms and normally it causes problems when I wear anything. But the band is really soft (yet firm) and doesn't pull on me. While the back of the device looks as if it's going to dig into you, you don't even feel anything. All this is surprising considering the large screen yet it still feels very light on the wrist. DEVICE While it's feature rich, setup was still quick and it's very intuitive and easy to use. Syncing and connecting is seamless. I absolutely love the integrated tutorial and having all that, quite literally, on hand. It leaves one less manual laying around that you'll never have with you. The customization is fantastic and fun to personalize which was also an important factor in choosing a watch. I don't always use a lot of features on smart devices so being able to just use and keep what I like up front is great. Maybe it's my age but I still like physical buttons. So I love that they have one for turning on the display which really decreases the chances of you accidentally turning it on and inadvertently messing with things. All this is made even better with it's crisp and clear display and responsive and accurate touch controls. It has a new sapphire crystal glass display which I was told by a tech savvy family member that is a very welcome upgrade. I tend to bang into things so knowing I have an extra durable screen gives me more peace of mind. The battery life is ok (more on that below) but at least it seems to be fast charging. At 16% battery it only took 1 hour to charge. Fortunately, I was able to test it's waterproof capabilities. Without going into detail, whether just swimming or jumping off of 16ft high ledges, it held up very well and stayed on just fine. There are just a few downsides. Most notably would be the battery life. On power save mode I made it to 2 and a half days (16% left) from a full charge with pretty heavy use, considering there was a LOT to customize and set up. Without it, I'm sure it will be significantly less. This may not be bad for some but I'm sure it may bother some people. In the end it all depends on how you use it and what your needs are. While the device has plenty of health features, it does require numerous apps to make use of them. Those being Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health and Samsung Health Monitor. Lastly, maybe this is just how it is these days but a USB C adapter is NOT included for charging. You get the cable only. So keep this in mind if you don't have one available than you'll need to purchase separately. It really feels like Samsung thought of it all when designing this. What seems obvious, is they want to make sure the Galaxy Watch is the only smart watch you'll ever want. My wife has been using a smaller competitors fitness watch for a year and a half but it just abruptly died on her. After seeing the Galaxy Watch 5, she wants one and will probably never look back. PROS - Comfortable yet durable - Lots of customization - Responsive/Accurate - Fast charging CONS - Battery life - Requires several apps to make maximum use of features - USB-C adapter must be bought separately

This is the first true smart watch I've ever owned, and I'm sold. I've had a dedicated fitness watch, and a dedicated golf watch, and they were good for what they were designed for, but not very versatile. The Samsung Galaxy watch really does it all. Text messages are easy to read and pictures can even be viewed from messages. I was even able to take a phone call on the watch and had no trouble hearing and being heard (that I know of). It keeps track of any kind of workout you want to do, and you can set goals that it can tell you if you've met. And best of all, I can use it for golf as well (so far I like the Golf Shot app the best). The watch is easy to control and customize through the Wearable app. The face has many options that are all customizable for what you wan to see. I like having the weather on my wrist at all times, and even the weather app has many different things you can customize. The one thing I hope gets better is the apps available that can be used with the watch. I use Amazon Music, and that does not have a dedicated app for the watch. Also, while I can get notifications for Gmail on my watch, there does not seem to be a dedicated Gmail app that lets me check my email. I had to connect my Gmail to Outlook which does have an app for the watch, but then I would get multiple notices for things both on my phone and watch, so I quickly ditched that setup. The battery life seems short (about 2 days), but I guess you basically have a smartphone on your wrist, so you can't expect it to last that long. The upshot is that it charges super quick through a USB-C port (less than an hour). All in all, a fantastic watch. I resisted a smart watch for the longest time, but my experience with this watch will ensure I have one on my wrist for the foreseeable future.

Wanted to try the Samsung watch after having a crowdfunded watch for many years. Heard about the issue with battery life with Samsung watches but have had no issues. I can go almost 3 days before needing to charge it. I love the number of different features it has and customizable setup for apps to display. People have complained about the digital doggle instead of the physical doggle to flip through options on the watch but I don't have any issues and I have fairly big hands. Would definitely recommend the Galaxy 5 watch for those who have Samsung phones.
