Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the Galaxy Watch5 Pro Titanium Smartwatch's exceptional battery life and ease of use. Many appreciate its design and the 45mm size, while features like sleep tracking and GPS functionality also receive positive feedback. However, some users express disappointment over the lack of a rotating bezel and find the price to be a significant drawback. The smartwatch's compatibility with certain phones is also a point of concern for some customers.

Early days but I've been delighted with this watch so. I’m still finding my way around but it does everything I need it to do. I prefer the round watchface over the square ones found on most smart watches.

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear S3 Frontier was my first Samsung smartwatch. Loved it for the rugged looks and the rotating bezel. My next was the Galaxy Watch 3, which also had a rotating bezel. I decided to sit out the Galaxy Watch 4 when it was made known Tizen would not be the operating system (OS) but rather Wear OS. I still own another competing smartwatch that runs Wear OS but I had simply grown so used to Tizen, I was not ready to switch. Along came the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and changed my perception of Wear OS like only Samsung could. The minimalist packaging contained: • Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro • Samsung Galaxy Watch Magnetic Fast Charging USB-C Cable • Quick Start Guide I prefer larger smartwatches which makes the Galaxy Watch Pro 5 at 45mm ideal; I find that interaction and inputs are much easier when the screen is larger. The 1.4-inch Sapphire crystal glass screen is encased in Titanium, both of which have been designed to withstand the outdoors and daily rigors of life. To further enhance durability, the casing is raised along the edge of the screen to help prevent direct impact. An IP68 rating means there is protection from dust contact and effects of continuous immersion in water, which in this case is a depth of 50 meters (about 164 feet.) In similar Samsung function, there are two physical keys on the right-hand side of the device. The top key serves the Power/Home functions while the lower is your Back function. Coming from the Galaxy Watch 3, this order has been reversed. Between the two keys is the microphone. Around the lower section, on the left-hand side of the device is the speaker. On the top of the casing is the atmospheric pressure sensor opening. Beneath the device are the BioActive and temperature sensors along with a pressure vent. Missing from the face is the physical rotating bezel. I initially though the digital version would be cumbersome to use but it is surprisingly not. It does takes a bit to get used to but the learning curve is not steep. The raised casing design along the screen edge also helped in this operation. If it really aggravates you, there is an option to turn the feature off. Missing a physical rotating bezel also implies one less mechanical feature that could breakdown (or get louder in operation with age.) The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro ships with a 20mm D-Buckle Sport band which I found very convenient and easy to use. It has a magnetic clasp and is in fact so comfortable that I have been wearing the device to bed and measuring my sleep patterns for the first time. I bought a regular Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Sports band in anticipation of my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro but went back to the included D-Buckle Sport band after a day. I see myself getting additional colors if/when they become available. There is 16GB of onboard storage and 1.5GB RAM which helps the Exynos W920 processor deliver speedy performance. Display is Super AMOLED like most high-end Samsung devices, with a resolution of 450 x 450 pixels. Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi, NFC and LTE are the available communication options on my model. I have yet to enable the LTE but calls are clear and crisp on the device while tethered to a Bluetooth connection. Powering the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is a 590mAh Li-Ion battery. The supplied Galaxy Watch Magnetic Fast Charging USB-C Cable remarkably appeared to charge faster than the device initially conveyed, with the 25W adapter. Compared to my older USB-A charger (15W), Samsung’s Fast Charge stated a 27-minute differential (1hr 19 min versus 1hr 46 min) to fully charge the device from 38 percent; it actually completed the charge in about an hour! Using a 45W adapter does not sadly charge it any quicker. After about four days of use, it estimated about 72 hours of my typical use until depletion; the watch only mode could be enabled for over 18 days. Typical daily use includes email and SMS notifications, auto workout detections, sleep monitoring and calls. Tying all the various hardware components in harmony is the OS; Wear OS 3.5 and Samsung’s One UI 4.5. The One UI is basically Samsung’s overlay that distinguishes its smartwatches from others by adding some features only innate to Samsung. Galaxy Wear is used to set up the device and I pleasantly discovered I could also use some previous watch faces from my Galaxy Watch 3. The presence of GPS on the device itself assists the new Track Back feature which provides turn-by-turn navigation back to activity starting point. I discovered that previous cycle routes can be saved from the Samsung Health app and reused or shared. If a route was saved in just one direction, the Track Back would provide directions to help return if enabled at the beginning. Samsung Health continues to seamlessly link all Galaxy smartwatches and smartphones in the pursuit of capturing your vitals including: • Heartrate • Electrocardiogram (ECG) • Stress Level • Body Composition • Blood Oxygen Content • Sleep The Sleep function within the Samsung Health app provided quite an insight. I had never been the one to wear watches to bed but after trying out the Samsung Galaxy 5 Pro, I can see a new pattern emerging. There is even an option to detect snoring which I’m curious to research further as to how the device would discern the source when/should both partners snore! With the possible future release of a Blood Pressure module and the new yet to be enabled temperature sensor, Samsung Health has yet to scratch the surface. Samsung Pay is present and can authorize payments conveniently from your wrist. Multiple cards can be stored for use with NFC-enabled card readers. Other available utilities include alarm, calendar, flashlight and a compass available via a watch face. Google Maps also displays directions and alerts to help you navigate when in use. Bixby and Google Assistant are both available to choose from, depending on your preference. My only gripe with the device is the omission of the Samsung Email app. Typically, smartwatches tend to provide notifications but with Samsung’s Email app, older emails could be viewed on the Galaxy Watch 3 for example, which ran Tizen. Currently, to receive emails on the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, Outlook needs to be installed on the user’s smartphone. The issue for folks who may still want to hold on to older Tizen devices is that you need to have both Outlook and Samsung Email running on your smartphone. Hopefully, the Samsung Email app may become available via an update in the future, fingers crossed! The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, my third Samsung smartwatch, is definitely worthy of the Pro moniker in my opinion. With impressive software that fully takes advantage of the very robust hardware, I found it to be my third time a chime and highly recommend!

If you are buying this watch and plan to use it to record outdoor activities using GPS, save yourself a lot of money and frustration and buy something else. Samsung LTE GPS performance is very poor. I bought the LTE version so I could send Beacons without having my phone with me. Attached is an example of the erratic nature of the GPS track when the watch is not in close proximity to the phone. Had I known that Samsung GPS performance was no better than this, I definitely would have passed.
