"Swimming watch" that you can't swim with

I got this for my wife last Christmas. Initially we really liked like and I wished it had NFC. If it had Samsung Pay I would have gotten one instead of my Gear S3 Classic. Great screen. Nice app integration. Waterproofing for swimming. Lightweight... That all changed in about 6-7 months. All of a sudden it wouldn't charge and it wouldn't turn on. I contacted Samsung and they said the battery needed to be replaced. Since it was registered with my wife she needed to do the warranty request. Being that my wife takes a long time to get things like this done, about 4 months later it finally went in for repair. A few days later it showed up with a letter saying that Samsung would not repair it because it had water damage. I immediately went and looked up the specifications and the warranty. The warranty states that Samsung will not warranty water damage, but it will fix defects in the product. So my wife called Samsung to discuss the issue since the watch hadn't been used beyond the advertised specifications. She had swam with it 3 times for maybe 15 minutes each, but beyond that she never got it wet (probably a splash when washing her hands...). Since the watch is clearly rated for swimming in the advertised specifications, water damage is a defect in the product if it was never used beyond its rating. If you go to the official web page for the watch the very first thing it says is: "Go from swimming laps to jumping in the shower. Gear Fit2 Pro is water resistant up to 5 ATM*. And whether you choose the pool or open water, the Speedo On** app developed for Gear Fit2 Pro tracks your stats...". It goes on to state "water resistance rating of 50 meters under the ISO standard 22810:2010". If Samsung won't warrant it to its advertised water specifications, it should clearly stop highlighting the feature and having the Speedo app one of the default apps installed. Even though it's clearly stated that the watch is rated for water usage, the support rep my wife talked to on the phone said that since they said it was water damaged (which it states in the warranty isn't covered) they wouldn't fix it or replace it even though the water damage is due to the product being defective. What a waste of time and money... Bought a swimming watch, swam with it, it stopped working because it's defective, and then the company won't back up its advertised specifications. We're probably going to follow-up with support one more time because it's ridiculous that they won't replace a defective item. Given this interaction with Samsung, I'm hesitant to buy a Samsung product again. I almost bought a Note9 last week but it didn't end up working out. Was going to buy it in the next couple weeks but now I'm thinking I'll look elsewhere.

    Not waterproof as advertised

I bought my watch six months ago and haven't had any problems with it. Then, a little over a month ago, I noticed the band was separating from the watch face. I knew it would eventually be an issue, so I had planned on sending it in for repair (hoping it would be covered under warranty). As it's supposed to be and is advertised as being waterproof, I have always showered and even swam in it with no problems. This morning I charged it to 100% and went about my day. I took a workout class at my office gym, took a shower afterwards and then went back to work. My watch vibrated, which it's set to only vibrate when the battery is low, so I looked and it was dead. I put it back on the charger and it said 1%. After inspecting, the band has seemed to separate more, so I'm wondering if water got into it when I showered after class. I started reading reviews on the watch, only to be extremely disappointed in what I found. It seems that water damage is a fairly common issue. And when people have sent their watch into Samsung for repair, they have been denied, saying water damage isn't covered under warranty. This is my first fitness watch, and I'm extremely disappointed to have it only last 6 months. I'm a Samsung user, and prefer their phones to the iPhone. So I'm really sad this watch didn't work and that people who have sent their watch in have had such horrible experiences in getting it repaired

I got this watch for Christmas last year (Dec 2017). My husband purchased the Best Buy geek squad plan which I am very thankful for. I loved the watch. It did everything that I wanted--heartrate, sleep tracking, steps, email/text other smartphone features. I wore it 24/7 only took it off to charge when I showered (charge only lasts 24 hrs at best with everything on). I never swam in it or submerged it. It did not get wet to my knowledge. I did workout with it so I sweated in it. It is a workout watch btw. It lasted less than 30 days before it shut off and would not turn back on. Black screen. I had geek squad so I brought it back and they replaced. Totally awesome. We thought it was a lemon. No worries. Got a new watch. The same thing happened again but it lasted about 3 months this time. Really odd but I took it back again and Best Buy replaced since I still had geek squad. Now I'm losing interest in this watch since this is number 3 and now I don't wear it to sleep anymore so it charges overnight. Watch number 3 stopped working after 3 months. Got another. It never came out of the box and I just returned it. Clearly, there is a problem. I don't submerge the watch I only workout in it. I have read other reviews where they had similar issues and sent the watch to Samsung(they didn't have geek squad) and Samsung said it had water damage so they wouldn't replace. I just bought the new Galaxy watch and am hoping for better results. Love this watch even more than the Gear Fit2. Hopefully, Samsung has fixed the sweat issue.Just in case I got geek squad.

DON'T get WET. Supposedly water resistant, but when it stops working after you wash your hands, don't expect Samsung to repair it. What a joke. RESEARCH this issue before deciding to buy, plenty of other people with the same story. It is such a shame because my wife loved this product, we are avid Samsung phone users, have an expensive Samsung fridge. We stuck with them through the exploding phones/washing machines. However we are done with Samsung after they refused to repair replace this Samsung Gear Fit 2 watch for water damage, when it had never even been submerged. Never even swam with it on. Hard to trust their Water resistant ratings on any of their products after this. So no more Samsung phones, Fridges, Washers/Dryers for us. No more using Samsung Pay everywhere we go, bye bye Samsung. #GoneForLife. Such a shame, never felt so ripped of before. We will be escalating with Best Buy, and the Credit Card company used to purchase.

Not for use in the water

I purchased this watch for my daughter who swims competitively. 4 months after buying the product, the battery lost life, randomly shut off, and would not charge. I contacted Samsung customer service and they had me send it back to them for a repair. The watch returned with a letter that said the watch was unrepairable due to water damage. What? Samsung's website claims you can go straight from swimming laps to the shower. Did they mean with the watch, or without it? Apparently—stated contrary to the website and the box—Samsung customer service informed me that this watch is rated for less than 30 minutes in clean water (not chlorinated) and no deeper than 5 feet. By using the built in swim workout mode, you void the warranty and risk ruining the watch. We also purchased one for my son to use for running. His watch tracks three quarters of a mile short over a three mile run. Disappointingly inaccurate. When counting steps, the watches are fantastic, but so is a pedometer from the dollar store. So if you want a $200 pedometer then this is the watch for you. Just don’t count on it for swimming or running and certainly do not expect Samsung to stand behind their product or their marketing.

    Terrible running watch

If you are considering this one because it is packed with features and affordable, move on to something better and bite the bullet. I could not get it to work with my Samsung(!) S7 phone, and it took the IT guy at work a solid 45 minutes to get them to sync. First hurdle, it should not have been that difficult. It synced ok with the Aftershokz open ear headphones, but on my first run the GPS drained the battery in about an hour. Oh well, it was a beautiful morning under a moonless sky with lots of stars, so at least it was a nice run. It can work with Strava, but getting the app on the watch was another half hour, and it does require that the workouts be synced manually (grrr). And, for the GPS to locate the watch, it needs to be disconnected from the phone via turning off the phone's bluetooth 5-10 minutes prior to the run (double grrr). Oh, and the heart rate monitor is all over the place- it's close some of the time, varies wildly in it's guess of your heart rate most of the time. In conclusion, once you get past the syncing process it works ok as a smart watch, but not great. And, it might be ok for doing 5k's or maybe a 10k, as long as you're ok with it not really wanting you to do those things, but otherwise spend a little more and get something a little more satisfactory. Run away like krill in front of a humpback whale!

What not to do in the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro

Run, walk, swim, bike, yard work, hike, workout, canoeing, bowling, yoga, hot yoga, backpacking participate in any sport or any physical activity. I purchased this smartwatch and I wore it while working out at the gym, and while working out like anyone I sweat. The watch failed in month 10 and would not charge. I sent to watch into Samsung to repair it because it was within the one year warranty. Samsung returned the watch to me within a week and stated that the motherboard was corrupted because it got wet. I thought that to be strange because it was advertised that the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro is waterproof, and I don’t swim just workout at the gym and yard work. So I went back and forth and was finally told that the watch was would not be replaced, and was not warrantable because it was my fault that I wore the watch and my sweat got into the watch and all Samsung watches aren’t waterproof. So I was out of money time and would have to buy a new watch. So to close do NOT buy this watch or any Samsung Fit watches if you are an active person. Please avoid what I went through and look into another brand. Samsung does not care.

I purchased a new Gear Fit 2 in July, 2018. It has some very nice features and claims to be water resistant to 50 meters. I received the watch and immediately registered it with Samsung. However, after wearing this watch for 2 weeks including swimming twice, the watch stopped working. Samsung was very efficient in transporting the watch back to the service center via UPS. I was then told that the watch had sustained water damage and was being returned with no compensation for my purchase. Through numerous phone calls and a letter to the Senior Vice President of U.S Customer Service, Michael Lawder, the answer in a phone call from a Samsung representative was the same. As soon as the consumer purchases this watch, any water damage is assumed to be due to the customer’s misuse of the watch and the “water resistant to 50 meters” warranty is null and void. If you’re planning on purchasing this watch, please get the Best Buy warranty, since Samsung will not stand by their warranty.

I chose the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro over a similar model by FitBit. I previously had the FitBit Charge HR and most recently the Vivovit+ by Garmin and I was looking for a little more of a smart watch but something that could endure boot camp style workouts. First thing I noticed was that the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro needs charging almost everyday. It tries to do too much and it drains the battery. Secondly the heart rate monitor wasn't accurate. I also did not like that if you get up during the night, the sleep records starts over again. Finally, two months after I purchased it, it came off while working out, hit the floor and the screen shattered. Fixing a shattered screen is not covered under the 1 year warranty. Lesson learned. Even though I had to replace the Charge HR 3 times in one year FitBit never complained.

Bought this watch for two reasons, MapMyRun and Spotify integration. Both fail miserably. GPS takes forever to connect and even when it says its connected it takes a 1/4 mile of running before it accurately starts tracking pace. Spotify works only when it wants to. If you are on wifi and stops when you are listening to a song you don't have downloaded to the watch, then try to use spotify when you are away from wifi it gets "stuck" on the non-downloaded song and even restarting the watch won't unstick it. And the deathblow is the battery life, can't count how many times it's died after starting at a full charge toward the end of a run when I need the music most and then don't know when I've finished my run. Horribly frustrating. If you want a step counter and sleep tracker, then you MIGHT be happy but be ready to charge daily.

After 11 months, the unit failed. Sent to Samsung for repair or replace. Sent back twice from Samsung as completely checked and repaired. Both times the same failure. Over the next four (4) months, calling Samsung Case Management at least twice each week, I was told on several occasions that a replacement watch was being sent, merely waiting on UPS to pick up. The watch never came. Finally, at the end of the four (4) month period, Samsung sent me a check for $199.00 (no tax included). I just purchased a new APPLE Series 3 watch with the $199.00. Am completely satisfied. My family will NEVER purchase a Samsung product again. None of this mess was the fault of Best Buy.

Doesn't accurately track steps and keeps stopping my walking time when I am walking. You can see in the two pictures the difference between my steps my phone tracking vs my watch from my morning walk. I have tried reseting it and other settings and trouble shooting, but it still is not working properly. My old Fitbit worked better. So frustrated as I typically like Samsung and have had a great experience with their products. I am soo disappointed this watch has been a waste.

One side of the band popped loose from the watch after about a week after I purchased it. I put it back in place and it was fine. (So I thought). About 2 weeks later it must have popped off again because the watch was gone. I paid $150.00 to wear the watch for 3 weeks. Samsung said that warranty did not apply because the watch was lost. Best Buy said there was nothing they could do because the watch was lost. I would not have lost it if it hadn’t malfunctioned. No one seemed to understand that point or didn’t care. Very disappointed in Samsung and Best Buy

This watch is advertised prominently as a waterproof watch that can be used while swimming. Unfortunately, after less than a few seconds of exposure to water, my watch died, never to live again. Though it's under warranty, Samsung refuses to fix water damage (even though said damage means that they manufactured the watch wrong). Google just a bit to see just how many people this happens to (LOTS - some even just with some rain or sweat!) and save your money. This is not the watch you are looking for. It's going to be an expensive (small) brick before long.

This is not the product you want if your priority is fitness tracking. While it advertises constant heart rate monitoring, it fails to disclose that the monitoring drains the battery to the point where it doesn't last a full 24 hours without needing a charge, despite being brand new. Even without constant heart rate monitoring the battery only lasts a little over 24 hours. The first day I tried to use it, it stopped counting steps randomly. Samsung had no fix for this and recommended that I return it while I am within the return window.

If I had not bought this watch to use for tracking lap swimming, it would have worked fine (other than the battery life not as good as advertised). The watch is advertised as water resistant to 10 meters and as a swim tracking watch. However, when it died in the water (swimming laps in a pool, definitely not over 10 meters), Samsung said it was repairable and they would not replace it. They said it isn't meant to handle extreme conditions and that "liquid damage" is not covered by the warranty. So apparently, an indoor swimming pool is "extreme conditions."

Last straw was suddenly line across screen under the screen protector. Sent for warranty repair. Samsung says out of warranty and pay 87.00 for repair. Why the ....would i pay 50% of the cost of new phone to have it repaired??? How can it be out of warranty after only six months??? Told them to send it back to me unrepaired. The display is stunning. The band is cheap and uncomfortable. Should look gorgeous on a man's wrist, minus the ugly band, but if you're a woman with even a slightly smaller wrist this is going to look ridiculous on you. It stands up over a quarter of an inch because it's so thick, and the display is so long it creates a gap of empty space between where the band starts and your wrist. This clearly was not designed for us ladies. Returned.

I love what this band could have been. However, I went through 3 of these and finally gave up. I take extremely good care of my items and these only appear to hold up for 3-5 months with light usage. The battery appears to be the main problematic factor each time. Maybe future models will be improved, but stay away from this model for now.
