First things first. It does and can act as a stand alone phone. For those who say they can not talk with it, they got the lower model. There are two models of this phone. The 3g model ( called International model in Amazon) and the model that does not have 3g ( called US model in amazon). The 3g model can be used to make and receive calls, talking through it.It cost $349.00. It comes either with the classic leather band or sporty sweat resistant bands. It also has its own telephone number and you pay $8 a month to your telephone carrier to use it as independent phone. You can still use it as phone without paying the extra $8.00 monthly fee, but it will not have it''s own number and it will share your cell phone number. The non 3g model cost $249.00 and only comes with the sporty sweat resistant wrist bands. You can dial with it but you have to talk through your phone after making the call. You do not have to pay the extra $8.00 a month to your telephone carrier. I wish Samsung made this differences clear to avoid the confusion and frustration customers have had. They should have called the one that you can talk through with as a phone, Gear S2 + or something else, instead of calling it International model. And of course, Yes, you can buy the so called International model here in the US . I bought mine through T-mobile. My other complaint is that I am not getting the 2 days of battery use most people are getting. I am getting barely 14 hours of battery use with every apps turned off and using the battery saver mode. I still give it 5 stars because it is a brilliant piece of technology. I am getting my daughter one for her Samsung S6 edge.

    Nice Smartwatch

Everything works perfect, this watch can be used with any android phone that runs Android 4.4 and higher with over 1.5GB RAM. Pairing and setting up is easy. looks nice on ladies wrist, not bulky and big like other watches. Watch comes with an extra strap which is slightly shorter than the one on the watch( for ladies use). Don't steer away from this watch based on watch bands being flimsy, they are not that easily broken unless you fiddle with them a lot. They felt durable to me.Also by the time someone damages the strap i bet those things will sell for cheap and we can replace easily. Other best thing is just buy protection plan. I read user reviews on this site before and every one was complaining about straps, hence i am writing more about them here. My experience with it has been great. Only thing i am not comfortable using this watch is like a fitness tracker, this has to do with watch size to keep on the wrist all times. Fitness trackers are sleeker, i wouldnt want to lug a watch to bed . Battery life is tolerant at one day of heavy use and little more with moderate use. If you are looking to buy a smartwatch and this come in with a deal, please buy you wouldn't regret.

I love this watch. It is so convient to be in class, or driving even, and being able to glance at notifications on your watch while your hands are still on the wheel, rather than taking your hands off to get your phone. The screen is clear, bright, works well for everything I do on their. So far no issues.

I received this watch as a 2017 Christmas gift. It has everything that I need and then some. I can check all of my texts and emails and also my facebook notifications ( you can only do theses things if connected to Bluetooth or wifi ) You can also add more apps ( both free and paid ) to this watch. If you have someone who is really into electronics and internet related items then this watch is a must have. It also comes with a calender and you can check your heart rate with it and count how many steps that you walk during a days time. You can also see who is calling you. You cant use it to talk unless you add it to your wireless phone plan via your provider.

Great Watch Lacking a Constant Heart Rate Monitor

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is an excellent product. The ONLY reason I returned it is because it lacks a CONSTANT Heart Rate Monitor like the Fitbit HR. The HR Monitor on this particular watch is akin to the many apps you can download and place your finger on the camera and WAIT 1/2 a MINUTE or so for the result unlike the Fitbit HR which records your Heart Rate on a constant basis. Moreover, it's disappointing to learn that basically all "Smartwatches" are similar because they're NOT really "Health Watches" like the Fitbit products. The problem with the Fitbitm thoughm is the FACT it lacks the OTHER features that an incredible watch like this has (apps, a COLOR screen, etc., etc.). Why can't somebody just make a GREAT Smartwatch which incorporates a "Fitbit HR-like" Heart Rate Monitor feature. Even the SONY XPERIA watch is actually really, really nice but it too (like all the Samsung watches) lacks this critical feature for those of us who want/need to the CONSTANT HR Monitoring!

So my mom bought me this watch for my birthday in October but I don't care it doesn't have speakers it's still the best smartwatch but i I minis well keep it for another year because I do love this gear watch a lot but if the newer gear is coming this year or next year. I should gotten the gear s but I did use to have gear 2 but I traded gear 2 for this gear watch when the best buy salesman told me they don't have the gear 2 anymore. What happened to my gear 2 is the sound was low and I have to turn it in. This gear watch is the best still

    Good, but not great

Research, research, research. This watch is a good watch, let me get that right out there. Especially if you have a Samsung smartphone. Pairing is simple and easy (you will need to download Samsung Gear app and a possible software update for the watch, which will run automatically). This watch functions exactly as advertised, from getting notifications to seeing who is calling, texting or emailing you. This heart rate monitor works as well as any, step tracker, and even Nike+ are all built in. However there are some minor to major drawbacks, depending on what's important to you. Since Samsung decided to use their in house Operating System (OS) Tizen for their wearables, it has massively reduced the number of apps for the them. The band it self is not bad, it is made of rubber and pretty durable. But the connectors the attach the band to the watch body are not as durable and can break. Mine did not break while I owned it, but I have a friend that had his break within the first three months. Now for me here is the biggest drawback, you CANNOT make or receive calls straight from the watch. You can answer or start a call, but to talk you will need to get your phone out. I know that sounds like a minor thing, but one of the biggest reasons why I bought the Gear S2, was thinking I could make calls from my wrist. I should have done my research. So, I'll say it again, do your research. The Gear S2 is a good watch, but make sure it has what you want and/or does what you want before you spend the money.

Very stylish and sporty watch at the same time. I use it when I go run or on a walk and it tracks my fitness goals. It also automatically tracks my sleeping hours. You can view and reply your text messages, it very helpful when you can look up the weather as well.

Over a year later I'm falling in love with it

So I'll be honest when I first bought this over a year ago I was only mildly impressed. At that time I was working out a lot and and already had a Garmin vivofit with heart rate chest strap and ended up deciding that for activity tracking I preferred the Garmin. I felt like the steps and heart rate were more accurate with the Garmin and i liked that with the Garmin i could see my heart rate in real time while i was working out. The only things i liked better about the gear s2 was that i could play music directly from the watch to my Bluetooth headset and that i could use the notes app to put my lifting workout so when I don't remember what I'm supposed to do next or how many sets/reps i could have it right there on my wrist. But then I lost my motivation and stopped working out and both devices went into a drawer for almost a year. Well I just recently decided that I've got to get more active again and got both devices back out and on my wrists. Samsung apparently did some updating while it was in my drawer because I've been using both devices again for a week or two now and I'm seriously considering putting the Garmin back in the drawer and just using the gear s2. Everything that I liked better on the Garmin has now been added or updated to the gear. I also feel like the steps are now more accurate on the gear than the Garmin and just today I figured out that during a workout I can see my heart rate in real time on the gear (maybe it was there all along and I didn't know?) I've heard that heart rate chest straps (which I use with my Garmin) are more accurate but I looked at them side by side during my walk today and they were never more than 2 beats apart and they both came up with the same max heart rate and the average was only a one beat difference. The only problem I've been having is it keeps calling my walks runs. Yeah i wish i was fit enough to run that long but I'm not... yet. But i just downloaded a new update today and that got fixed. I can now tell it what kind of workout I'll be doing before i start. Before I never really used it for texting because the built in keyboard is difficult to use and s voice is terrible for talk to text but I just downloaded a cheap qwerty keyboard and was pleasantly surprised how much better it was. I think now I can see myself sending short messages with it. Also, I'm impressed with the battery life. With my most recent full charge i got just a little shy of 3 full days. Not bad at all. The rubbery strap is a little uncomfortable. I find that several times throughout the day the inside of my wrist will start to itch. But I'm loving it so much i just ordered a cool mesh metal strap off Amazon for about $16. According to the reviews for it it's much more comfortable than the strap it comes with. From what I've seen in YouTube reviews of the new gear s3 i can't see any reason to upgrade. This older version does everything i need it to. I am super sad though to see that it looks like the s2 classic rose gold might no longer be available? I'm not seeing it on the best buy website. I was in love with that one but couldn't justify the price, plus I would have been scared to lift with it. I told myself if I lost all the weight that would be my reward. I don't see myself needing to upgrade any time soon but Samsung if you ever decide to ditch s voice and put Bixby on the gears and make one in rose gold again you might just force me to upgrade.

Moving from Gear 2 to Gear s2

After breaking the crystal of my Gear 2 Samsung watch, I replaced it with the s2. I gave up the camera and movie options, but I never really used them anyway. All the rest of the functions of my first watch are repeated here, but just not as clumsy. I really like the bezel with the touch screen for navigation. Did not even need to read the owners manual as everything was easy to figure out.

Its a good watch for Android Users. Easy to use and very friendly to the user. A lot of customization available, comfortable to wear and easy to take on and off. One problem i have/did have was the watch was breaking on the strap where it gets connected. Had to return it to get a new one because of it.

I previously had the gear fit. It fell off me wrist and got ran over. I love this watch compared to the fit. Don't care to much about talking to my wrist. The text and other notifications come up clear. Takes a little to get use to the buttons on which is back vs go straight. Size is okay. I have a small wrist and was worried it would be to big. Can't wait for more app options though and see what bands they get.
