The Geek Squad mounted mine directly below my tv and you can’t even see the wire, they installed it very close to the bottom of my tv. As advertised the sound bar captures every sound around you with Dolby Atmos. Although you can connect via Bluetooth and to a TV, I chose to connect to my tv with a HDMI cable. The soundbar can be operated hands-free using voice control through my Alexa.

Here's why: When I watch an episode of The Office, a rather sonically dull show, with the sound bar, I can hear all the ambient office noises, which makes for a more immersive experience. Now, imagine what it can do for something like Last of Us or Poker Face.

Compatibilty issues even with Samsung TVs

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Samsung soundbar because our TV is a Samsung, and I wanted to ensure compatibility. Answers from Samsung here at Best Buy indicate the TV can control the soundbar even with a Toslink (optical) connection. Thus it was doubly frustrating when neither the TV remote volume control or auto power on worked! You don't discover this until you get into the TV menus and find the soundbar model is not on the list of home theater devices that the TV remote can control, even though the TV is only 1 year old and firmware is up to date. Likewise, the soundbar should automatically power on/off with TV power, but does not. There are numerous troubleshooting solutions on the Samsung web site and NONE of them worked with this soundbar. Phone tech support tried but could not find a solution. It is truly mind-boggling. Sound quality is fine at this price level and a noticeable improvement over the built-in TV speakers. Works fine if you don't mind having yet another remote around to turn on sound and adjust volume. For me, the inconvenience is not worth it and it will most likely be be returned. (TV model: UN50TU7000 7Series)

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-A550 Soundbar and for sharing your review. As long as your soundbar is connected to your TV with either an optical cable or HDMI via ARC, you can control the volume and mute the soundbar using your Samsung TV's remote. The soundbar should also turn on and off with the TV.
TV remotes have to be enabled on your soundbar. By default, Samsung TV remotes are enabled on your soundbar. If it isn't working, be sure the soundbar is powered on, then press and hold the WOOFER button up until ON - TV REMOTE appears on the display (about 5 seconds).
In all configurations (Optical, Bluetooth, ARC, and Wi-Fi) when the TV is turned ON, the Soundbar will turn ON. If your soundbar is not turning on, it could be due to another reason. For example, if the Soundbar was used to connect to another device (say a smart phone), then it will remember the last device (smart phone) and wait for a command from that device (the smartphone) and ignore the TV ON command.
You may want to try using a HDMI-ARC connection to the TV. When the TV turns ON, it will send a command to turn on the Soundbar and forces the source on the Soundbar to change to HDMI-ARC. This would make the Soundbar change the source from the prior state it was in.
Please know that your soundbar also has an Auto Power Down Function that turns off the soundbar automatically if it is in one of the following modes: D.IN, HDMI, BT, or USB and there is no audio signal for 20 minutes.
