However, I did my research and picked this soundbar over the one from sony that was on sale. The sound is......clear, and expected from this price range. Bass is not punchy yet acceptable. Different sound mode is a plus but didn't make much of a difference. The see-through mesh is meh but better than none. So why the five-star? You get what you pay for and for the price, I can't complain, also I just want a simple setup for my TV nothing too fancy.

To optimize your audio experience, please try the various sound modes this model offers. Press the SOUND MODE button on your remote, and then select your desired sound effect: STANDARD, SURROUND SOUND, BASS BOOST, GAME, ADAPTIVE, or DTS VIRTUAL:X.

But the volume it quite terrible. After about volume level 35 (the max is 100) the higher you go it seems to just drop off, it won't get any louder. The bass is also another problem, too be frank it sucks. Even with the bass boost setting on and the bass turned all the way up on the EQ its "meh" at best. Honestly it's not worth 200 spend more to get a better unit, i regret buying it.

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-A550 Soundbar and for your review. We appreciate your feedback regarding the volume of your soundbar. Simply changing the Digital Output Audio Format to PCM can help. You may want to try changing the Digital Output Audio Format to PCM.
On a Samsung TV this can be found at Home > Settings > Sound > Expert Settings. (It can also be found in the Quick Settings.)
If your Digital Output Audio Format isn't set to PCM, like for instance if you have a Dolby option selected, then you will likely notice decreased maximum volume. Dolby options are designed for surround systems (like 3.1.2 or 7.1), whereas PCM provides great sound quality for stereo speakers.
If you don't have a surround system, you will probably want to select PCM. You'll get much louder volume that way, and potentially better sound quality.

Press and hold the Sound Control button for about 5 seconds to adjust the sound for each of seven frequency bands.
Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer to -12 or between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.

Woofer misses a lot
