      Simply changing the Digital Output Audio Format to PCM can help improve the overall volume of the soundbar. You may want to try changing the Digital Output Audio Format to PCM.

      On a Samsung TV this can be found at Home > Settings > Sound > Expert Settings. (It can also be found in the Quick Settings.)

      If your Digital Output Audio Format isn't set to PCM, like for instance if you have a Dolby option selected, then you will likely notice decreased maximum volume. Dolby options are designed for surround systems (like 3.1.2 or 7.1), whereas PCM provides great sound quality for stereo speakers. If you don't have a surround system, you will probably want to select PCM. You'll get much louder volume that way, and potentially better sound quality.

      Please know, you can try optimizing audio performance for your specific content by pressing the SOUND MODE button on your soundbar remote, and then selecting the desired sound effect by choosing STANDARD, SURROUND SOUND, BASS BOOST, GAME, or ADAPTIVE.

      You can also press the Sound Control button on the remote (looks like a gear) to adjust TREBLE and BASS.

      Press and hold the Sound Control button for about 5 seconds to adjust the sound for each of seven frequency bands.

      Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer to -12 or between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.

    Horrible. Lack of mid-range from soundbar; sub was decent. PROBLEM: using Digital Input, the volume was defaulted to 19 (not too loud) - however, if the volume was lowered to say 10 (soft), some indiscriminate time later (30 seconds, or 1 minute), the volume would shoot back to 19 for some stupid reason. Obviously, that's not how any component of A/V should operate. I updated to the newest firmware, rebooted, and this problem persisted. I returned immediately for a smaller Vizio unit that was the same price and absolutely kills this one.

    1st thing right out the box, easy to hook up manually or with wifi. This sound bar has stepped our movie night up 100%., and even just regular tv watching. We use our Soundbar for movies and shows with action, and sports. Set up was really easy! We watched 10 minutes of one of our favorite movies and we are in love! We initially setup with the HDMI chord, but then decided to try Blue Tooth. Blue tooth set up was super easy! We were able to follow the directions and connected it both ways. We also paired it with our Amazon Echo which was super easy to do. We were able to navigate from the Amazon Echo with ease opening the app for the Soundbar, etc. I was so excited I turned on Spotify and my music sounds amazing! The sound quality is amazing. If you are a movie lover or just love listening to music, the sound is exceptional. The bass is great for movie watching or listening to your favorite playlist. We haven’t owned a sound bar in awhile due to price and not having good experiences. This was definitely a great experience.

    I could not get the A550 to connect to my B6 LG OLED via hdmi arc. Samsung customer service read from the same troubleshooting web site that I had already found and performed myself, then told me my tv was at fault. Via toslink connection I experienced audio drop outs. The only solid connection I could get was a Bluetooth connection that I would need to reconnect every time I turned the tv on. When the A550 was outputting audio, it sounded thin, even with the wireless sub. I returned this unit for a Sonos Beam Gen 2 that I am much happier with.

    I use the sound bar in my main family room and I was very impressed with the ease of the plug and play set up, but I was amazed when I turned it on. Wow! Excellent sound quality with movies, sports and music! Very clear and I love that with only this sound bar, there is surround quality sound. The subwoofer also provides the right amount of bass for enhancement. My favorite feature is the dual Bluetooth connection option so that both my husband and I can connect our phones without signing in/out. It was very easy to connect to the TV via WiFi. It picked up our network immediately. Using the app also provides a convenient way to adjust volume and switch play lists or channels. And, being able to use Amazon Echo to control volume and changing channels is a very convenient option as well. I have been very pleased with this soundbar and it is a must have to upgrade your home theater. I plan to purchase another one to upgrade in my bedroom as well!

      I am sorry to see you are not completely satisfied with the bass performance of the subwoofer. By design, the purpose of the subwoofer is to reproduces low frequency sounds and not musical tones. It adds rich tones and deepens sound effects, like the rumbles of an explosion or the depth in bass guitars and drums.

      There are three adjustments that can be made for bass and subwoofer:
      1) Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down

      2) Adjust the bass control by pressing the SOUND CONTROL button (gear icon) on the remote control, then select BASS to increase the level. You can adjust the volume between -6 to +6 by using the Up/Down buttons.

      3) Press the SOUND MODE button on your remote, and then select BASS BOOST mode. This will provide you with a larger emphasis on bass sound.

      Hi Michael,

      Thank you for purchasing the HW-A550 soundbar and for your review. We appreciate your feedback regarding cut outs. Please be sure your firmware release is (v.1005.1). You can update the firmware of your soundbar by connecting a USB device containing the firmware update file.

      Your issue may be caused by wireless interference. When there is a wireless device (e.g., wireless LAN) using the same frequency (5.8GHz) near the Soundbar, the wireless connection between the Subwoofer and Surround Speaker could become unstable. This will affect the quality of audio output.

      In this case, the radio frequency channel of the Subwoofer and Surround Speaker can be changed as below :

      1. With the power of the Soundbar on, vertically press and hold the WOOFER button on the remote controller for at least 5 seconds.
      • The display shows “W-CH” and the currently set radio frequency channel.

      2. Press the Up/Down button on the remote controller to change the radio frequency channel, and then press the Play button.
      • The display shows “OK” and then the frequency is set to the changed channel.
      • You can exit the setting mode by pressing any button other than Up/Down or Play.

      The maximum transmission distance of the main unit’s wireless signal is about 32.8 ft. but may vary depending on your operating environment. If a steel-concrete or metallic wall is between the main unit and the wireless subwoofer, the system may not operate at all because the wireless signal cannot penetrate metal.

      For optimal listening performance, make sure that the area around the wireless subwoofer and the Wireless Receiver Module is clear of any obstructions.

      The subwoofer is responsible for low frequency sounds, like the rumbles of an explosion in an action movie or the bass guitar and drum in your favorite music. It adds rich bass tones and deepens the sound quality you hear, but since the subwoofer only plays low tones, it will be silent when low frequency sounds are not in use. If you would like louder (or softer) bass from your subwoofer, you can adjust the level by toggling the WOOFER button on the soundbar remote, and then adjusting the level from -6 to +6. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.

      You can try adjusting audio performance to your liking by pressing the SOUND MODE button on your soundbar remote, and then selecting the desired sound effect by choosing STANDARD, SURROUND SOUND, BASS BOOST, GAME, ADAPTIVE, or DTS VIRTUAL:X.

      You can also press the Sound Control button on the remote (looks like a gear) to adjust TREBLE and BASS. Press and hold the Sound Control button for about 5 seconds to adjust the sound for each of seven frequency bands. (Set sound mode to standard)

      Additionally, using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.

    Best Sound Bar for your money

    My husband and I received this Sound bar. Like 2 big kids at Christmas, we couldn't wait to try it out. I am hard of hearing, so I find sound bars help me hear better when watching TV. I have to say we have tried 3 different sound bars so far, and this one is the best! I can hear so much better, even when they are whispering. The clarity it brings to watching TV is amazing. I hear the background noise in the movies and everything. No more asking "what did they say?" The volume does not have to be higher than a 12 for me, usually on other sound bars I was on 22 to hear. It looks sleek and goes well with our décor. Truly, for the price, this is the sound bar I recommend to all my friends and family. The remote that comes with is very User friendly, small, sleek and so easy to command. No extra buttons for God knows what like some other remotes I have received. We personally just use 1 master remote, and we found that the sound bar integrated easily to the Master Remote. Set up was a breeze, easy to read manual, great customer service if you need further help. there is not enough ways for me to say how much we love this sound bar. We will be replacing the other 2 sound bars in the bedrooms with this model. Hooks up easily to WIFI and Bluetooth. Such a User Friendly product. After having a few more days to play with our sound bar, I am still over the moon, on how well it makes me feel like I am using surround sound without having to engage the other speakers. Watching horror movies, really makes you feel that you are right there. I tried gaming on the TV with our XBox and found the sound to be perfect! My husband posted pics on his review. We both found this model to be so good that we are both writing reviews. That way you can get different aspects and views. Mine from a person that has hearing issues, and sensitive to overly loud. My husband comes from an IT professional, and super into new tech. Even just using the TV for music, is such a better quality than our previous sound bar. Our friends and family depend on our knowledge when buying any new Tech, appliance etc. That is because we keep up on what is new and worth the money. Samsung is quickly becoming a favorite brand in our household. I think Samsung is just getting better, with every new product they make. I can't wait to see what they make next!

    Disappointing dialogue

    So far very disappointed. Thought I was upgrading from the Vizio system I had. It’s loud at least! But only the back ground noise. Dialogue is terrible and very quiet. Pretty frustrated with this purchase.

    Best buy for the money

    I had the BOSE smart soundbar 300 and it was not a $400.00 soundbar. I got this Samsung HW A-550 on sale at half the price the BOSE was and this sound's a lot better. Has more bass and just as good mid's and high's even at $279.00 this would be a great buy. Should have gotten this first.
