I bought this sound bar/subwoofer today and it worked for about 5 minutes. Now it won’t turn on or respond in any way. After spending some time troubleshooting over the phone with Samsung they determined the system is defective. This is the 4th defective item I have purchased from Best Buy within the past 2 years and am beginning to think it’s not just bad luck at this point. Very frustrating

How come that I purchased it because it said it supported Dolby Atmos and now they have it as it doesn't? I was wondering why the sound was so regular like any other. Then when I go back... to my surprise. They removed the DOLBY ATMOS from the product? Really bad move, Best Buy. Bad review for misleading advertising.

What I disliked about this product? It doesn't have Dolby Atmos as it is stated in the products title description. I purchased this because I wanted Dolby Atmos. There is no "Atmos" in this item, it's just Dolby only. There is a difference between the two.

Love love love. It connects so easy, and the sound is so much more crisp and clean than the tv speakers. The extra kick from the bass ads so much when watching action or horror movies, and everything about it just makes for a much better media experience.

Excellent value soundbar and subwoofer. Very good for music and soundtrack music. Plugged Fire Stick into HDMI port and paired remote for a one stop solution to power on and off and watch content. Excellent volume range. Dialogue could be a bit clearer but overall is good.

I got the HW-A650 a few weeks ago and was able to get the black Friday price around two hundreds dollars range. For this price, it is a good value even thought it lacks the Dolby Atmos which is not an issue for me since the majority of my viewing does not have Dolby Atmos and the DTS-X virtual is good for the non-Atmos material. This sound bar took at least a couple of weeks if not more to breakin to open up. When I first got it, the sound was underwhelm but got much better after a few weeks of use. Another thing is it needs to be placed properly if place on a TV cabinet stand and not mounting on the wall. When place on top the TV cabinet, the sound bar needed to be placed so that it front surface is right that the edge of the cabinet to minimize reflection which created unpredictable and unbalanced sound. Does it complete with typical 5.1 setup with front, center, rear and subwoofer? Absolutely not and not even close especially in an open environment such as my house family room. However, it is extremely convenient for every day TV watching where I do not have to turn on the dedicate HT system which I only turn on for true home theater watching experience. This soundbar beat all TV built in speakers by a mile regardless how expensive the TV is. In this sense, it served its purpose and the sound bar built quality is good (metal grill instead of the dust magnet cloth covering). I was considering getting the top of the line Samsung HW-Q950A to replace the dedicate HT system but upon listening to it at the store, I decided to not pursue that path. As much as all the reviewer raved about the HW-Q950A, the law of physic applied where small tweeter and driver in the soundbar cannot compete with 1" and 5 " to 6" midrange used in typical bookshelf and center speakers. Obviously, such a system take more space and will require a HT receiver which could be more expense. However, with high end soundbar costing close to 2K or even higher, the cost is approaching dedicate system with decent speakers and HT receiver. Another thing concerned me with high end soundbar is the majority of the cost is in the sound bar with built in amplifier and sound processing which if something go wrong or damage with the soundbar, the entire investment will go down the drain. IMHO, the HW-a650 is a good gap filler for everyday use for me and the dedicate setup for true movie night. One issue I found with the HW-a650 is that it does not work well with the 2018 Hisense TV that I got in the master bedroom. The system would work for about 10 minutes and no sound would come out of the soundbar even thought I can use the TV remote control to raise/lower the soundbar volume setting. It appeared some thing is not sync right with the HDMI ARC connection between the TV and the Soundbar. On the other hand, it worked perfectly with the new 75" QLED A60 Samsung TV I got at the same time with the sound bar. Over all, I am pleased with the purchase.

First off, let me say I am a Samsung fan. I’ll try to be non biased but … refer to my initial comment! LOL! I have bought multiple sound bars over the years. Samsung makes an excellent choice for when it comes to electronics BUT (make sure you hear that “but” in your head loud and clear … ) what looks, sounds and feels good to one person doesn’t always work for another. My suggestion is to plan on spending a good 30 mins to an hour listening to multiple different bars. (In my case, 2.5 hours). This bar hit exactly what I wanted all around. For the price, it is clear on every range of note you can hear. The mids are easy to hear without overpowering and sounding “tinny”, the highs are clear and the bass smooth with no “muddled” sounds. It’s easy to set up, works perfectly with my Samsung tv and the surround it creates in the room is perfect to my ears without being an overpowering unit. The cons to this particular soundbar unit is it could use a bit more volume. The bass is good but could hit a little harder. The volume goes up high in number range but doesn’t seem to equate to the sound being put out. Almost like its being throttled back. Overall, its a really good unit. For a person that wants a really good soundbar that is like the jack of all trades but master of none, this will fit the bill. If you are in an apartment, closely built house in a neighborhood or simply don’t tend to like loud music or movies, this needs to be on your radar for the sound quality it DOES give out.

I’ve had this sound bar officially over a year and it’s the best part of the entertainment. It’s not so much that it just makes the noise “louder” it sounds like a surround sound system. The audio is so crisp and clear whether you’re watching a movie, listening to music or even playing a video game. I’ve had zero issues with it and I’m all about good quality tech. One of my favorite purchases to this date.

A solid plug and play system for anyone wanting better sound and a little bass for little money. Bought it for my brother and it’s good.
