The box that the soundbar came in was a surprise. The packaging is part of their “Going Green” program to reduce ink and paper use. The box is contoured exactly to the shape of the contents, with no wasted space. While I applaud their efforts, it did make the box awkward for the delivery person to carry. The heavy subwoofer was on the big end and while there was a built-in handle on the box it wasn’t obvious and they didn’t use it. The only way to get the contents out was to slit the tape all the way around. Normally this would be OK, but I like to keep all my boxes and packing material “just in case” and it wasn’t easy to get all the packing material back into the box and re-tape it. And it won’t be easy to store. We had a 5 year old Samsung TV that we recently replaced with a new 55 inch Samsung TV so this Samsung soundbar came available just in time. The soundbar is 34 inches long, which fits comfortably in front of the TV, between the legs. There isn’t much clearance between the top of the soundbar and the bottom of the TV and I was a little concerned that it would block the signal needed to turn on the TV but I didn’t have any problem with that. The soundbar does come with wall-mounting hardware. It has a USB port that can be used to play songs stored on a USB or to download software updates. There is no HDMI input. The soundbar and subwoofer paired automatically and all I had to do to pair the soundbar to the TV was to go into the TV settings, select the Bluetooth device and pair them. The entire setup using a Bluetooth connection took about 10 minutes. The soundbar can be connected to the TV by either Bluetooth or a digital optical cable. A digital optical cable is included. I did some research and learned that the optical cable connection is preferred over Bluetooth because Bluetooth has a distance limitation and can have lag and quality issues caused by routers, microwaves, or metal. My intent was to set up the soundbar with the optical cable, but due to the position of the TV it was difficult to reach the optical cable input. So I decided to try it with Bluetooth for a while and the sound was perfect - for a day. The next morning the soundbar didn’t work when the TV was turned on. So I went ahead and connected it with the optical cable instead of Bluetooth. The subwoofer has been a little problematic. My husband is very sensitive to low bass sounds and the subwoofer was irritating him so I had to temporarily (I hope) disconnect it. Maybe changing the position will solve the problem. I would’ve preferred having a rear speaker/soundbar package instead of a subwoofer/soundbar package. My old soundbar had a remote, but it also had duplicate buttons on the top for volume, treble/bass, sound mode, power, mute, etc. The Samsung soundbar only has 4 buttons - power, volume up, volume down and source. All other selections are made using the remote. The problem with that is the words describing the selections run across a small area of the bar and it’s difficult to read the long descriptions. The one annoying problem has been trying to configure the TV remote to adjust the soundbar sound. The user manual describes how to do it using the woofer bar on the soundbar remote, but that will only work until the TV is turned off. The Samsung TV also has issues. When I change the sound to “Optical” in settings it reverts to TV speakers when the TV is turned off. I’ve worked on it for 5 days and still no luck. I hear that Samsung support is excellent so it looks like I’m going to get a chance to find out for myself. As for the sound quality - I don’t hear much difference between this one and my 5 year old Insignia. The advantage of the Samsung soundbar was that I could use the TV remote to control the volume. Since that isn’t working and I can’t use the subwoofer, this isn’t much of an upgrade. But hopefully I’ll be able to solve those 2 problems in the near future.

This simple and little sound bar and subwoofer fills my master bedroom to my liking, the bar sounds really good for its size the subwoofer has more than enough bass the only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because the connection to the tv is optical instead of HDMI, but other than that you can connect it to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth and listen to music, but I mainly use this to watch movies or tv shows

Great as an Office Desktop Sound System

I have owned the bigger and more expensive 600 series Samsung sound bar and loved it. I needed a soundbar for my office sound system and the 400 series is perfect sized as a compact non-desk-cluttering computer system with Bluetooth capabilities. The design footprint of the bar and floor sitting subwoofer was perfect for my needs. The only question was: how does it sound? The surprisingly present high quality differentiated sound spectrum is more than adequate for the price, especially with the system set for surround sound! It rivals a Klipsch desktop computer sound system that is the best I ever used. Grant it, I’m not sure it would impress as much as a living room home theater system that the 600 series will trump in spades! But for my use, and perhaps for smaller contained areas, this baby sings!

I’ve had this soundbar for 2 years now, still kicking strong. I use it in my office now, as I’ve gotten a louder setup for my living room. These speakers are great though! Very easy to set up, and sound 100x better than your built-in tv speakers. And the price is amazing!

I've had this for a few weeks. Very easy set up. Its a very good sound with bass too! It's like you're TV speakers are amplified! The only issue, I really wanted "Surround Sound". When this feature is selected its not the same as having "Rear Speakers". All the sound is coming fun the front sound bar. Overall, I chose to keep it (better than tv speakers and $ was good) as it has a good deep sound. I've also just purchased the separate Samsung wireless "Rear Speaker kit" and see if this helps. If you don't need surround sound, then this is a good choice to watch movies, listen to music, etc.

If you're looking for a solid audio upgrade from a default set-up, this is a great bundle to start. The woofer adds much needed sound for the lower frequencies, but the sound bar alone wouldn't be bad standalone as well, just not as good.

These speakers are great! The sound quality is great, the volume is great, the form factor is great. My only gripe is no HDMI, but thats not a HUGE deal as the BT and Digital Out work great.

Solid sound bar. The sound quality and volume is more that adequate for a single family home living room. The issues I have with it would be the output delay on a wired connection, and the subwoofer feedback on low volumes. First there is a noticeable delay when doing things like gaming. Roughly a second after an action is performed, the output comes out. Makes it frustrating when playing most any game. Also, when starting a show or a selection on a service there is about a two second silence before audio starts being outputted. Second, the wireless sub emits a constant high pitched ringing. When the SB or sub isn’t loud you can hear it and it gives me headaches. I’ve found unplugging makes it go away, but have had no luck by resyncing or any other troubleshooting options. I’ll be reaching out to the manufacturer for a replacement hopefully.

      Hello,

Thank you for purchasing the HW-B450 Soundbar. I am sorry to see that you are experiencing these issues with your unit.

There are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot your Soundbar.

Please verify that you are running the latest firmware on your TV. You can check to see what software version your TV is using and if there is an available update through the settings on your TV. Go to: Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.

Then try doing a soft reset, unplug the soundbar from the outlet for roughly 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

Next do a hard reset if you are still experiencing these issues. With the Soundbar on, press the + & - (Volume UP/DOWN) buttons on the body at the same time for at least 5 seconds. “INIT OK” appears on the display and then the Soundbar is reset.

If we can further help with any other issues, please know we are here for you. Just call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (Ask for Soundbars), 8 AM – 12 AM EST, 7 days a week. Or visit us on the Samsung website and click on the ‘Support’ link for:

It's very easy to use. The functions on the remote are pretty basic. The quality of sound is good and the quality of bass in the subwoofer is good too. I'll be looking to make an upgrade with the same brand in the near future. My cousin was looking for a sound bar and this is the one that I recommended to him.
