We appreciate you taking a moment to review the Samsung HW-B550D Soundbar.
By design, the purpose of the subwoofer is to reproduce low-frequency sounds and not musical tones. It adds rich tones and deepens sound effects, like the rumbles of an explosion or the depth in bass guitars and drums.
There are three adjustments that can be made for bass and subwoofer:
1) Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the volume of the subwoofer between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down
2) Adjust the bass control by pressing the SOUND CONTROL button (gear icon) on the remote control, then select BASS to increase the level. You can adjust the volume between -6 to +6 by using the Up/Down buttons.
3) Press the SOUND MODE button on your remote, and then select BASS BOOST mode. This will provide you with a larger emphasis on bass sound.
For precise audio adjustments, you can use the 7-band frequency equalizer to optimize the sound for your room acoustics.

Does not seem to connect with HDMI Arc with my Samsung TV as well as a previously owned Vizio Sound bar but it works. Appears to be no way to adjust the various sound frequency levels to preference since the Samsung TV equalizer does not work with this soundbar and there is no soundbar equalizer that I can find. . The wireless subwoofer functions but is basically inaudible. Better than the TV speaker but really not what I expected.

Here are a few things you can check to resolve the ARC issue:
1) Make sure the TV has the latest software version
2) Try setting the digital audio output setting on the TV to PCM
3) Try a different HDMI cable. The cable should be a high-speed HDMI cable capable of 4K/30Hz
You can optimize your audio performance to your liking by pressing the SOUND MODE button on your soundbar remote, and then selecting the desired sound effect by choosing SURROUND SOUND, BASS BOOST, GAME, ADAPTIVE, DTS VIRTUAL:X, STANDARD.
By pressing the TONE CONTROL button, you can adjust the volume of the treble or bass sound. Press the button to select TREBLE or BASS and then adjust the volume between -6~+6 by using the Up/Down buttons.
Press and hold the SOUND CONTROL button for about 5 seconds to adjust the sound for each frequency band. 150Hz, 300Hz, 600Hz, 1.2kHz, 2.5kHz, 5kHz, and 10kHz are selectable using the Left/Right buttons and each can be adjusted to a setting between -6 to +6 using the Up/Down buttons. (Make sure the Sound mode is set to “STANDARD”.
Additionally, using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the subwoofer’s volume between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.
