No HDMI out so had to use an optical cable which is not included. Manual a bit lacking. Insane remote - battery door does not have to be this difficult to open. Others have mentioned this. Also, volume control is a toggle not a push button although it acts as a mute when you push it. A simple graphic could have saved me some grief here. Recommended.

I have had numerous problems with the soundbar staying connected over the last 6 months. So much for Samsungs product reputation. I am very disappointed to say the least.

It may have to do with connected via Bluetooth. Phenomenal sound when it’s working.

Easy to install (have a Samsung TV) just plug the HDMI cable in the right slot on the box. Programming to the TV remote could use better instructions. (had to go online to find them) Best Buy just issued a credit due to lowering the price since I purchased the unit 2 days ago on the Black Friday sale.

Samsung told me that optical cables aren't compatible. And that they suggest HDMI as the strongest connection. The Bluetooth goes in and out and then there's static. Sometimes it powers off by itself. All of the issues started happening after the return window. I used Bluetooth with no problem. Literally around the 35th day, I started getting static. Then I found out about the optical cable. Another disappointment. Especially because we only get 2 HDMI port's.

Thank you for purchasing Samsung's HW-S50A soundbar and for sharing the issues you have experienced with the connection to your TV and Bluetooth devices.
The HW-S50A is compatible with TVs that support HDMI ARC, digital optical audio, or Bluetooth wireless audio technology. For the best audio quality and user experience, we suggest using HDMI ARC when available; however, you can certainly use the other available options for a smooth connection with quality audio.
HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) lets certain TVs and soundbars transfer audio back and forth using one HDMI cable. In other words, you can use the HDMI port as both an input and audio output. The only downside is that your soundbar is going to take up a port on your TV that would normally connect an external device.
To set up HDMI ARC, power on your TV and soundbar.
1. Next, connect one end of an HDMI cable into the HDMI IN (ARC) port on your TV.
2. Connect the other end into the HDMI OUT (TV-ARC) port on your soundbar.
3. Next, change the source on your soundbar to the D.IN. setting.
4. After a few seconds, "TV ARC" will appear on the soundbar's display, and the TV will transfer audio through the soundbar.
An optical cable is also another way to connect your soundbar to your TV. You can also connect your devices (cable boxes, video game systems, and Blu-ray players) to the TV, and have the sound output from the TV to the soundbar.
1. With the TV and soundbar turned on, connect one end of a digital optical cable to the OPTICAL OUT port on the TV.
2. Then, connect the other end to the DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL) port on the soundbar.
3. Press Source on the remote or soundbar, and then set the soundbar to the D.IN. setting.
4. Finally, on the TV, you need to set the speaker output to external speakers.
5. Navigate to Settings, and then press Up on the navigation arrows to highlight Quick settings.
6. Press the right directional arrow to highlight TV Speaker and press select to change it to Optical (external speakers). The TV's sound will now play from the soundbar.
If you experience Bluetooth connection issues, there are a few things you may want to check:
1) The maximum wireless signal transmission distance is about 33 ft.
2) Electronic devices may cause radio interference. Devices that generate electromagnetic waves should be kept away from the Soundbar main unit - e.g., microwaves, wireless LAN devices, etc.
3) Also, please be sure you have the latest firmware update. You can update your firmware by using a USB device. You can find the update on the product page of your HW-S50A on the Samsung website.
