    Excellent Budget Computer

PROS: Great graphics capabilities, very nice crisp screen, easy setup, fast, not too much bloatware, HDMI Out, DVD burner, clean look, price, number pad, runs Minecraft like a boss, decent battery life CONS: CPU (more below), cheap construction, screen is very reflective, keyboard has no proper separation This is an excellent computer for a budget. The capabilities are far and and away better than any comparable Intel machine in terms of graphics. It is at least a little better than the Celerons that usually come at this range. The keyboard is okay for speed typing, but there is a learning curve to the keyboard, as the home keys are not well spaced, and the keys all feel the same. The number pad makes up for this issue in spades. With an HDMI out port, it becomes a cheap and portable HTPC. In fact, Media Center is front and center on the home list in Windows. The bloatware is thankfully limited. After a quick round of uninstalls and installs, the system was ready to rock. The CPU matches the Windows index of a 4 year old Pentium dual core. This is to say that it is quite capable of doing your basic work, and can especially take advantage of multiple thread apps (Office thankfully included), there will be some "chug" when heavy multitasking is involved. The screen is very crisp, and looks great with movies. The sound is tinny, but actually very full from a low budget device. The settings make it easy to go even louder. The build quality is somewhat cheap as the price would indicate. The ridged topside is nice, but I suspect that it will become more of a nuisance and ugly as time goes on. The look is overall sleek, but, again, the keyboard and area underneath is somewhat creaky. This is a great choice for a cheap, budget gamine computer. It will play Rome Total War with many others being installed currently. As mentioned, it plays Minecraft like a champ. Overall, a great bargain at the price. Get it if you want a cheap gaming rig that will give you decent battery. Great job, Samsung and AMD!

    Good Value Laptop

My wife and I have been through four laptops in three years: a Toshiba, two HPs, and a Dell. Sometimes the issue is our making (e.g. spilled coffee on the keyboard) and sometimes it's the laptop (dead battery). But one thing I've learned is that nearly every company delivers products that have something wrong straight out-of-the-box. I've also learned to judge those companies by how well they address the issue. Which brings me to this Samsung. A few raves first: the display is very crisp (better than our other laptops) and the speed is fast, particularly considering it has a relatively slow processor. Its weight, keyboard, mousepad all get high marks. That's very subjective, and others may disagree, but for us, its look and feel are spot on. Now to the issue. When my wife typed the cursor jumped around. She'd be two lines into an email only to have the cursor jump back to the beginning. Very annoying. Turns out her palm was accidentally touching the pad and moving the cursor. There was no obvious fix - the laptop's guide explained how to fix it, but the driver to perform the fix was mixing. I took a deep breath and called Samsung's support. I've called pretty much every major PC maker's support numbers, and they almost always are lousy. But not this time. First, I didn't have to wait long to speak to someone. Second, when I reached general customer support and not tech support, I was quickly transfered - again, with no wait. Third, I actually understood the tech guy. Pretty sure it was a domestic call center. Fourth, he walked me through a simple fix (turning the touchpad on and off), and when I said that wasn't ideal, he walked me through downloading the driver from Samsung's site. It was a flawless experience. And the new driver (from Elan) not only fixed the issue but gives us a whole set of new features for the touchpad. Really cool. I rarely post reviews - and I'm sure we'll have more things come up with this laptop - but so far our experience has been stellar.

    Great Cheap Laptop

This computer was the cheapest computer with as much memory as it has. webcam-decent quality I haven't used it much though screen-bright and I mean bright the lowest setting is still really bright. It also will have a decent glare at a normal viewing angle, but I've found that changing the angle reduces a lot of the glare; just avoid sitting directly in front of a window speakers-no complaints here keyboard- took about a day to get used to but have had no response issues. i love the seperate keypad and volume control and screen brightness are on the arrow keys touchpad-its multitouch and there is a scroll feature. the left-click right-click buttons are loud though. battery- I have gotten roughly 5 hours of web-surfing and word-processing out of my computer As for setup, I picked mine up at the store and they had set it up for me, so I don't know about that. Also I have had no problem streaming movies from netflix or playing online games with a moderately strong wi-fi connection. Uploading a 18 track CD took about 3 minutes. The only real problem I've had is if I log off then try to log back on it tells me there are insufficient resources. However all I have to do is click ok then switch user (even though I'm the only user) and it logs on like normal.

I'm a casual user (web, photo storage and video streaming etc) so price and reliability have always been the primary buying criteria. I thought all low range laptops were pretty much alike - until I brought this one home.... My old Acer Aspire (not quite 2 yrs) was fine until the USB ports both broke at different times (bringing new insight into how critical they are). Limped along like that until my son took out 6 keys by dropping the corner of a book on the keyboard. Time to see what's out there. I researched reviews and narrowed the field. On a whim I went in to Best Buy and saw the Samsung. Checked out the reviews - generally positive so I bought it for a test drive. Initial setup was slow. Strike One. Bloatware: Very little. That's nice. Wireless connection: Painless. Touchpad: Smooth and responsive. No tweaky cursor. Very nice. Page loading: It's OK. Display: Wow. Is the resolution that much better than my old laptop? Video streaming: Amazing. (I always thought freezing and buffering delays were caused by connection speeds, I guess not). Speakers: Not great, but a big improvement over the old unit. Battery Life: No longer an oxymoron. Battery is still alive after 3 hours. This is a keeper. I really like this laptop.

Remarkable laptop for an amazingly low price

Where do I begin? My almost 4 yr old Acer Aspire's performance had been declining pretty much from the moment I'd bought it. This being the case, I perused Bestbuy.com for a good deal on a new one. I've had great luck with other Samsung products in the past, so I decided to give this a shot. And I fell in love. As others have stated, the initial start up takes a bit...but all it takes is a little bit of patience, and then you'll have a great machine on your hands. I love the layout of the keyboard, especially the added keypad(which is the one thing I missed about using a desktop keyboard). It took me a bit to locate the driver for the touchpad, but after some searching I was victorious. I enjoy how much it's like a Mac touchpad, which is another plus for when my Mac-owning fiance tries to navigate around the laptop. Another thing I greatly enjoy is the sleek design of this laptop. It's much easier to handle than my old Acer, and a whole lot nicer looking as well! All-in-all, I've yet to find any major problems with this laptop. I needed something that didn't constantly freeze up or quit my programs, and I seem to have found it =-)

Waited about 6 weeks so I could write an informed review, and have to say that this was a great choice - both for price and overall value. I actually love it and have very few complaints. My experience has been with the HP Pavilion and most recently Toshiba (which I hated every feature). So, keeping that in mind, and because I wanted very specific features, I did a lot of research, testing options at the store, and reading reviews. I'd have to say that it delivered on all of them: 1) The screen is great in size and color (I can even see images clearly when working outside); 2) HDMI feature: has worked great for hooking up remotely on my 52' plasma. I just got a wireless keyboard and mouse, and it works perfectly; 3) Multiple USB jacks (3) 4) 10-key Pad: great feature, but buttons are super tiny, and the delete key is out of place. It's worth the convenience of having it, but if you're looking for speed, look elsewhere 5) Speakers are better than average Cons: 1) Battery life is miserable 2) Speed - computer gets bogged down pretty easily, so far. As far as I know, I'm not overloading it with applications or programs, but some here say that the Squad can help with this problem. I'll take it in to see. Other: 1) Keyboard takes some getting used to, as it basically shifts left a little bit. Took me a while, but I got used to it. Otherwise, navigation is pretty good, including the mousepad. Not sure if I'd give it a 5, but considering the price, it probably deserves a 4.5

    A steal at this price!

I have given this Samsung 5 stars because the build quality is exceptional at this price level. I happen to like the feel of the separated "chicklet" style keys, since I sometimes use a MacBook. They are also easier to keep clean. I day trade stocks, and Windows machines are much better for that purpose. Our family purchased a Dell Studio at Best Buy in Spring 2009 for about $900, a Vista machine that has similar specs and a less stable operating system. The Samsung feels more solid, and the case and hinge appear to be built to tighter tolerances. As others have noted, at this price level one is usually limited to netbooks or Celeron-based closeouts. I have watched a Netflix movie without a problem, used Skype for a video chat, and traded stocks without any issues. The sound quality through headphones is excellent - better than our Dell studio - with the built in speakers, about average. Everything works as promised, and it's only $350. At this price level, what more could you ask for?

Here is the 'nitty gritty' on this unit! 1) BUY it before it is gone. Beautiful case, nice screen, well-made for $350. Then, get on the internet and order items to beef it up. 2) Make a 'drivers recovery DVD' from the START MENU and put it with the Windows 7 DVD that comes with the unit. 3) Order 8 GIG (2 x 4 gig) of PC10600 RAM from any retailer and bump it up to the max. 4) Put a larger HDD (I used a 640 GIG 7200 RPM) and reload the system and drivers. You don't have to load all the 'bloatware'. 5) Relax and enjoy this fantastic buy that BestBuy has offered to you and enjoy your new computer. For 'Tubster13' who gave this unit a 1 STAR review, I say be more specific or tell us which competitor you are working for. This Samsung is a keeper and if you want to download the drivers yourself, go to the Samsung Hong Kong site, select ENGLISH as your language, and download what you need. This is a great buy! Thanks BEST BUY for the great deals & service.

PROS: SPEED (for the price!), SCREEN, ISLAND KEYS CONS: Store pre-loaded Norton (Slows it down, un-installed, loaded up AVG), First time on 15.6” w/ numpad, so it took a little bit to get used to the keys being off-center..but no biggie, if you plan on listen to music/movie via the built in speakers .. not great, but they’ll do. Purchased it for my kid going to college. LOVE the fast start up speed, and for the price .. can’t beat it! Haven’t had it long, but for now, doing everything it’s supposed to. One review talked about the extra software loaded, but mine was only NORTON, so not sure if it comes different from on-line vs store pickup. GREAT PURCHASE for student or home…if you’re looking for a business laptop…will need a little more beef in the processor speed depending on what apps you’ll need to run.

I was on the market for a laptop. I've had a Dell desktop for awhile and wanted to upgrade. I have a friend who knows computers and he told me to go with what 'feels' right instead of focusing on name brands AND this computer was 'the one'! All I needed was something I could browse the internet on and maybe do some photo storage, downloading of music, and catch up on some TV shows (I'm not a cable owner). Turns out I'm able to use if for ALOT! I can browse the internet with great speed, the keyboard and touchpad and clickers work very smoothly, and the display is great! I hooked up an HDMI cable and can stream movies/shows onto my TV and it works GREAT!!! I'm very happy with my purchase and recommend this to anyone who is wanting a great deal on a great computer! I LOVE MY NEW LAPTOP!

I've used computers since before Windows 3.1, but this is my first laptop. Compared to my current desktop, this computer is a bit awkward to use (using the touch pad). Also, keyboard is a bit awkward (but again, this is my first laptop ever). I am exceptionally pleased with the screen display, bright, clear, crisp, with brilliant colors. I use this mainly for viewing Netflix on my HD TV (using an HDMI cable). I picked this computer mostly because of price and the HDMI port. Also use it for simple web browsing and looking up things from time to time. A really nice computer. I would highly recommend it. Comes with all the software needed for entry-level use, plus has a nice web cam and pretty nice speakers. All in all, a great buy and worth what I paid for it.

My previous laptop was a Toshiba satellite series. It was a piece of junk that set me back 1800 dollars!! This cute little guy that caught my eye was dirt cheap and seemed sleek, stylish, and well built. After fighting with the geek squad, I got home and plugged this puppy in. From the first boot, it has been fast and reliable. Although I am not a heavy duty computer user, I do expect quality and this samsung has been the best computer so far in my life. The one and ONLY downside to this computer is that the webcam seemed a little slow through skype. *****FIVE STARS*****

I use my computer for mostly school assignments and online classes. Programs that I could not see fully and would keep stopping on my last computer work great on this one. The computer finally keeps up with me. It also came with a backup possiblity which is great if something happens in the future. Most computers these days don't come with that you have to download it from the a website or pay for it. The computer also makes excellent quality cd's and dvd's. I also can charge it and work on it for 6 to 8 hours without it dying on me. That is great for its size and capabilities. I am definitely happy with my purchase.

5 stars. Good laptop. Great for only 350. Very fast. Never had any problem with ethernet. Everything worked out of the box. No dirvers needed. Don't know what the other guy was talking about. My ether net worked right away. Sale ends saturday the 25th so hury. I mean saturday is the last day so hurry. The only thing I didn't like was when I unplugged from the wall on battery screen goes dim. Even on full brightness not as good as when plugged in to the wall. And on full charge I only get 4 hours battery not 5. Don't know what everyone else is talking about.

I am 14 and my prier laptop was a mini laptop so this laptop is amazing. but it can be a bit slow sometimes and the keyboard takes a little while to get used to. but it has enough memory for all my pictures and it includes skype, which i was very happy about. i like all the features of this laptop especially the restore. i had to use it once already it worked great my virus was gone the built in youcam is great with its effects and videos. i also love the windows it comes with and the Samsung costumer service was helpful when i had to recover it. i also enjoy the audio and the video on it cause for the price it is very good.

This is my first new notebook purchase. Love the 10 key number pad to the right of the qwerty. Web cam, speakers, software package that comes with it. The only thing, if I have to be picky is that when playing music at full sound using windows media player there is sometimes a bit of lack in sound quality. When I play the same file using the Cyber media suite that comes with the notebook the sound quality is perfect (for notebook speakers). Love the sound enhancements too. Especially good when usinig earbuds or headphones. Great video quality too. Its all good!

I got this laptop a few days ago and do far it works great! I was a little worried the first few hours becouse it was running super slow. But now after all of the updates have been downloaded, it is working really fast. It pauses every now and then but besides that it is great. It connects to a wireless internet right after you wake it up from sleep mode which is nice. I would highly recomend this laptop if you dont want to spend $800+.

This laptop is connected to my dsl connection at the office and it's super fast, far better then i anticipated. The display is great but somewhat reflective. I got a sony vaio back in november and paid almost 660 with setup but no restore cd, whereas this laptop was 450 including tax, setup and restore disc included, so it was a great deal, you simply can't go wrong. It's got everything I need for my application.

Consulting on technology is my business, and I will tell you that you should purchase this laptop while you still can. I have compared many laptops and if you are on a budget or even if you're not, it is surprising to find a laptop this great in this price range is a rare thing. I have already helped three of my clients get this machine and wish I had a reason to get one for myself.
