I have never had a robot vacuum, so I will not compare the Airborne Copper with other options. My use case for this vacuum is a two-story house, with mixed carpet, bathroom tile and hardwood floors, and a few small rugs here and there. Some rooms have cables on the floor, both thick and thin. In some spots, the separation between carpet and hardwood happens with a short piece of wood (a "bump"). Conventional furniture. No cats, two small dogs. Vacuuming with a manual vacuum normally takes 1.5 to 2 hours. First, I set the Airborne Copper at the ground floor and let it go in Auto mode, Dust Sensor on. At this setting, the Airborne Copper moving algorithm will walk it into straight patterns, attempting to align with the wood grain, walls, or another room feature. I have found the vacuum performs well, going the full length and area of the rooms. If it does not visit some area of the room at first, it will eventually go back to that area after it finishes its search pattern and/or recharges. The walk algorithm is not random or bounce-and-restart. The obstacle avoidance system is composed by a number of sensors, such as infrared sensors at front, camera at top, bump sensor at front, void detection at bottom (to avoid falling down stairs), and motor strain (to detect when the motors are running but the vacuum is not moving due to being stuck somewhere). There might be a tilt sensor too, it appears. They work in conjunction and work well. The vacuum will stop before bumping into most obstacles, such as walls, and smartly recovers after bumping into something it could not properly detect. The weak point of obstacle detection are dark materials, in particular black furniture, low black shelves that sit above the height of the bump detector (the vacuum will not see them and will hit them, attempting to move forward until understanding it is stuck; only then it backs up). Curved furniture legs or soft ramps (such as legs that climb in a ramp) are also a weak point: the vacuum might not seem them, and then attempts to climb them, with a high probability of getting stuck. When the vacuum detects an obstacle, it will circle the obstacle in search of a clear path. There is a gap between the rolling brushes and the rest of the body that houses the wheels and motor. If the obstacle is a slim furniture leg, this leg might get lodged in between this gap while the vacuum is circling. When this happens and the vacuum cannot free itself, it will simply stop and cry for help (a soft alarm-melody plays for a while). Thick cables are usually not a problem. The vacuum will just climb over them and go about its business. Thin cables indeed might get sucked and tangle into the roller brushes. In one such occasion, the vacuum halted and cried for help. The power of the obstacle avoidance system, and one of the points that sold me for this product, was exemplified when the vacuum detected and delicately circled around one of my dogs who was sleeping on the floor, never touching him. Transferring the vacuum between floors proved seamless. The Airborne Copper will map the new environment and vacuum properly in straight patterns. As the battery is exhausted, the Airborne Copper will turn off the vacuum engine and trace its way back to the charging station. Sometimes it does this by tracing walls, sometimes it will follow an optimum path. And sometimes it will get lost and stop. I experienced that on my top floor, in which the charging station was installed in a room separated from the others by a bridge. The vacuum kept going to the wrong direction, which would put it into a room close to the goal but with no direct connection to it. The vacuum has a schedulers that works either with a daily schedule, or a one-time schedule. I would like to have a more advanced scheduler, which could allow different times per day. Finally, this is a vacuum, not a power broom. It does suck dirt, and it even sucked marbles and small toy pieces. The dust sensor makes it slow down the movement and increase the suction power while it detects dirt on the floor in repeated passes. It is not particularly noisy (much less than a conventional vacuum); there is a "silent" mode that decreases the suction power and resulting noise. In conclusion, I had to sell one leg and mortgage two arms to purchase this Airborne Copper. I come home to clean floors and tidy, vacuumed carpets daily without having to spend hours every week to manually vacuum (I have not used the manual vacuum since I purchased the Airborne Copper). It was worth every single penny of its price.

I did a lot of research and I'm glad I bought this robot. The list price is the same as the Roomba 980, but I got the Samsung on sale at Best Buy so I paid $200 less than a Roomba which I could not find on sale even though I looked for two months. I've had the robot for a month now. Works very well on our mix of hardwood and rugs. The bot won't climb up on our big thick shaggy rug, but I didn't really expect it to. It does climb up onto the other big thick rugs that aren't shaggy. The dirt compartment is very easy to empty. We have a cat and it picks up lots of cat hair. The noise level is better than I expected. Much less than our manual vacuum cleaners. We have lots of chairs and stools and although the bot does a pretty job getting around them, I put the kids' chairs and stools up on the table and counter so the bot can more easily get to all the kids' crumbs. The only disappointment is that it doesn't get under the overhang of our kitchen cabinets very well. But I just run a broom under the cabinets to push the dirt out where the bot can get it. The cat hid from the bot the first time we ran it, but now the cat just ignores the bot the same way the cat ignores the rest of us.

I've owned several Roomba's in my day, but this is the first 'real' robot vacuum I've owned now that I've had it. We have a single story home, all solid surface minus a couple floor rugs, and two pugs. This robot thus far has flawlessly vacuumed our entire house better than I would do by hand, with one caveat I'll get to in a minute. The Good: Vacuums with a very organized and efficient pattern. Kind of like how a human mows the lawn. None of this random roaming and zig zagging aimlessly. It maps the entire home and goes over everything it can get to room by room. Has the largest dust bin I've seen in a robot vacuum - No need to empty half way through a session, even with our pugs hair - if you keep up with it regularly (every few days) Lots of suction - this is a VACUUM Doesn't bang into things but senses their presence, slows, and gently pushes up against them to get to the edge. Returns to its base and charges itself without error The Not So Good: The one wart this unit has is that it doesn't get under kitchen cabinet faces very well due to its height profile. All our other furniture is fine, but once a week or so we need to sweep under the edges of the counters. The loan caveat warranted a half a star in my opinion, but since I can't rate that way I have to choose the closest and 5 star is the better rating. Would I buy it again if it broke? This afternoon....immediately... Its a game changer for those with pets and keeping up with dander, dust, and hair.

This machine is excellent. I had the lower Samsung model and traded up to this one. It now has several features I find essential: 1. It maps your house and identifies rooms where there are clear barriers/walls. 2. Once your house is mapped, it can be accessed from your phone and you can send it to a specific room in your house to clean and return. 3. It sends you a message when it is on the way to clean a room and sends another message when it has finished cleaning that room via a Chat. Overall, it does an excellent job of cleaning and gets into corners and will elevate the suction when it gets into corners to get any extra dust/debris. It also will clean the whole house but I prefer to send it to specific rooms and you can designate which rooms apply normal, maximum or quiet suction power. During quiet setting you can easily listen to television or have a conversation. This model has a few more horsepower and has never gotten stuck on rugs though it did get lost when it was able to get under a 4 legged chair against the wall. It was easy to lift the chair and it was on its way without a problem. This is different than the previous model which did seem to get stuck on a few rugs around my house. This model has not had that problem. I highly recommend this machine and have it set to do a weekly cleaning of the whole house but also clean different rooms when I am present.

LOVE my Samsung - Powerbot Cleaning Robot Vacuum

I love Bob! ( aka Robert, aka robot vacuum, aka Samsung - Powerbot Cleaning Robot Vacuum ) Yes, we love him so much we refer to him by name and use personal pronouns! I purchased BOB for Christmas as a family gift. It is the best purchase I've made in years! I was worried that he may not get everywhere or leave things behind, but I figured it could do a better job vacuuming than my 13 year old does. I read a lot of reviews and decided on the Samsung. I did not go wrong. I found that if I programmed him to run during the night that if it was dark sometimes he would get a little lost or get hung up on things, so I decided that I would simply start him when I get up, that way if he did get hung up I would hear him beep. This works well. Bob does a great job. He does the entire downstairs in about an hour without needing a re-charge. I do sweep out from under the cupboards quickly because he can't fit under them, but that takes me 30 seconds. He does the rest. I am amazed at the objects he can get around and then pick up in a strait line from where he left off. He transitions from wood to carpet with ease. He leaves perfect lines in the carpet! Bob does not like hair ties, cat toys or phone charger cords. Make sure those are off the floor first. I have bragged about this vacuum to everyone I know. What a time saver. I can take him upstairs, set him to go and he finds his way into every room and does a great job. I am truly amazed and grateful that I found BOB!

Replace your upright vacuum once and for all!

My original intention was to get the Roomba to help keep our floors clean in between using our upright Shark vacuum. I've owned the top of the line Dyson, then bought a Shark, and was still planning to use my Shark for deep cleaning vacuuming while using the Roomba in between. My plans changed completely when I saw Samsungs line of robovacs. I decided to spend twice as much as what I was planning on spending when I saw just how powerful and intuitive the Samsung 9000 series is. I knew I had 45 days (being an Elite Plus member) to test it out and see if it could literally replace my powerful Shark upright vacuum. That's why I love Best Buy's return policy with Elite Plus members, and why I spend a ton of money at Best Buy every year to maintain my Elite Plus status. I digress. Anyway, after getting familiar with my new Samsung 9000 I love the remote control that comes with it. You can program the Samsung to vacuum whenever you want as often as you want but I prefer to use the remote and by just touching the "auto" button this starts the vacuuming process. It has a "quite" button that puts the Samsung on a slower speed but much quieter, so we always use this option. The Spot Cleaning option is awesome! By pointing the remote at a particular spot on the floor it shines a laser where the vacuum will automatically follow and deep clean that area until you release the button. Overall I am very pleased with this vacuum and it is now our primary vacuum for everyday use!

We did our research on all the brands and models available. We were looking for a self-automated vacuum that would be able to keep our 3000+ sq ft floor and rugs clean since we have 4 kids, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Absolutely love this product from Samsung! Roomba was like a vacuum with ADD. It wouldn't leave our dining room and wouldn't go on any of the rugs. The samsung cleans the rugs and floors with ease. It hasn't gotten stuck and the entire floor and carpet was cleaned. It knows where it has been and where it needs to go. It knows what it is doing all by itself. I have set it to clean every morning at 8:00 and when I get home it is spotless. Yes, it is pricey but the time saved to do other things and the fact you don't have to mess with wires is definitely worth the price. Going to pick up a second unit for the upstairs! We did put aluminum foil over some of the sensors bc it did want to hesitate at first with dark colors but once we did - we've had no problems! I don't think we will be doing that with the upstairs model though!

I bought this because it was on a great sale for Mother's Day and I had $350 in rewards points. That made it more affordable. So far it has worked great! Our home has never been this clean. It does have to charge and finish up before its done, however we have a large home so this was expected given prior reviews read. Transitions smooth from hardwood to carpet. We run it in the middle of the night on an automatic programmed schedule and never hear it while we are sleeping. It does seem to get lost and stuck about 3/7 days of the week. Sometimes it just can't find the charging base, but I think this is because of the size of our home. Also it will get stuck sometimes under an end table or under chairs or bump into them when trying to get out. We have not had scuffs or damage to furniture or robot from this.It will not "dive bomb" off the stairs which is great. Easy to clean. Truly makes my life easier and serves its purpose. Given the time it saves me and the cleaning quality, I don't mind finding it stuck every now and then in the morning or helping it find home to charge. It leaves beautiful clean lines in the carpet so you can see no area was missed. Worth every penny! Cannot wait for another sale to buy it for other family members!

It does a decent job vacuuming. It's a little noisy, but if you're not home who would really know. My issue - for the price (since it's clearly at the high end), it should be able to navigate a normal house plan. I'm sure it would do great in a one room house shaped as a square. With multiple rooms, pass throughs, rectangles, furniture, a rug, and all of a sudden it can't seem to fully complete one room without randomly finding its way to some other room. It's like the thing has ADD. Oh look, squirrel, and off it goes It did always find its way home. I unleashed it on 4 rooms and a hallway. The hallway is great, the four rooms vary from 50% cleaned to 80%. It never did the same thing twice, some days it covered more of a room, some days it covered less. Too expensive for the shoddy performance. BTW it likes straight lines - better than the Roomba randomness. Problem is, the thing lists to one side - throws off the coverage pattern.

We have looked at robotic floor cleaners for years. Best Buy had one performing at its store when we were looking at Samsung appliances for our kitchen remodel. I asked to see it demonstrated & was very impressed with everything but its price. We did purchase Samsung appliances & the salesman offered a discounted price if we purchased it then - sold! We like its programming features & for keeping our home tidy we are very pleased. It can clean the entire floor (7 rooms) in one charging most of the time. It does not replace the heavy duty Dyson as you have to clean corners & under some furniture but less often. It is great if you are expecting company & run out of time. You also need to remove rugs with long pile, its just stops when it runs onto these. Being in our senior years it helps to have a little maid drop by.

I chose the Samsung as it had the strongest motor/vacuum as well as a larger debris bin. I was not disappointed on those ends. It does a great job getting the pet hair up and I now only have to empty the vacuum two - three times a week compared to everyday at the beginning. What is extremely disappointing is it's inability to navigate over my heater vents. and get onto my throw rugs from the hardwood floor. It will get onto a floor vent, then attempt to back up. as it backs up, it works it's way towards the wall and eventually the back of the vacuum will raise up onto the wall and get stuck, stopping the vacuum. When getting onto the throw rugs, it will attempt to get on several times before it does, if at all. Most of the time I will find it in the evening either stuck on a vent against a flat wall (not in a corner) or half on - half off of the rug. It would have also been nice if it would have come with one of the 'virtual walls' that will prevent it from going into an area when used. I could at least keep it from going up against the wall where the vent is.

I started out with a roomba and decided I wanted something with a bit better technology to be able to map out the room. I did a LOT of research and decided to trade it in for this Powerbot. At first I was fairly pleased with its mapping and how it was navigating through different rooms. After a few times of it getting stuck I simply shrugged it off as "not a big deal" since it was less work to move it back than it was to vacuum in the first place. Then it gradually became worse. I noticed that it would get stuck in a lot of the same places in the most peculiar way.. it would roll backwards until the wheels went a bit up the wall, causing it to tip upwards on the back end and stay stuck. That was the strangest thing. Then it would get stuck on smaller things like a corner wall that it was so easily navigating past before. Then it stopped finding its way home. I was pleased by the overall look and power of the vacuum as it cleaned very well. But my needs weren't met. This was advertised to be smart and to me it proved to be dumb. 2 stars for sleekness in appearance and for its power in picking up dirt; which it did very well.

Easy to use. Just charge it and push "play"! The appearance of my carpet is cleaner than after using my shark upright. We have dogs and run the "bot" every day. After a month, the hopper is less full every time which tells me it's gotten all that was missed by other vacuum cleaners and is getting ahead of the dog hair! We are older and vacuuming every day had become a real chore to the point I was considering a maid. The power bot make life easier for us! Takes about 30 min to do 1500 square feet. Gets around the furniture with no problems but it's too tall to get under the couch or bed. It's capacity is better than expected for power and dirt! It's not as loud as upright but it has silent mode if you want to watch tv! Excellent product that does everyday cleaning to military clean standards!

We got this Samsung Powerbot on sale at bestbuy.com a couple of weeks after getting a Roomba (from a competitor with a generous return policy). We thought this fantastic sale was a great opportunity to really compare how this Samsung stacked up against the Roomba. Bottom line, this unit was ok but we found the Roomba did a better job. The Samsung got hung up once on a lip between rooms that the Roomba was able to handle, and the Roomba got corners better than this unit. With kids running around all the time, a lot of dirt, crumbs, etc. gets pushed into the corners, and the Samsung didn't seem to get them, while the Roomba's brush did (it extends outside the physical unit). Those two factors were enough for us. The Powerbot did a decent job, don't get me wrong, but the Roomba was better for our needs and, if it hadn't been for the amazing sale with Best Buy, the Powerbot would have been far more money for a lesser product. We returned this unit within the Best Buy return period and remain happy with our Roomba.

this is my first smart vacuum and can I just say that I freak love this machine. I was reading some of the reviews(cnet) and they were saying things like it's really loud and that It doesn't do corners well, but it's not loud and it does do corners well. I'm used to a canister vacuum and compared to it it's about 1/3 as loud. A couple of things I've noticed it doesn't like fring on carpet, lose carpet(entry carpets),and on the manual it said that I doesn't work on dark floor. And it comes with an extra filter, I just have to figure out where to buy more when the time comes. Anyways I'm really happy with it .I've had this for less than 24 hours.

Bought this for our vacation home in the woods. Spend about half of our retired lives there - All floors in lower level are tile so thought this piece of equipment would make life easier since our biggest issue is just dust from surrounding woodlands. Nicknamed it Sammy. Does a great job!!! Programmed to run on a schedule so when we arrive at house it has only been a day or two since last run. Seems expensive for what some people would consider a 'toy', but fits our current lifestyle well. May consider my wife & I a bit wierd, but we love to watch Sammy do its job - kinda mesmerizing. Love the product, but we realize it does have a specific application & purpose & not necessarily for everyone.

We have named our POWERbot as Rajamma ! Initially I bought Roomba but was a DOA. I retuned it back and bought this based on recomendation. Has good suction and vacuum cleaning power. Does good on hard floors - laminate and tile. In carpet it works hard and loses power quickly. It is understandable. I am using this only for a week now. Not used schedule yet. So for so good. One of the remote function did not work - pointing laser. I have to take that back to fix. Over all I am OK despite issues. I have to see on how it works over long time. Sum up: Over prized. Has to come down in price. Remote issues to get attention. Overall OK product. Will wait to recommend this product. May come up with update after few months. I will wait to recomend this product. I would say no for now.

Product failed after 5 months of usage. Samsung customer service is the worst possible. They don't know what to do. First they told me someone would pick it up at my house for repairs. After a week waiting I called them back and they told me they were wrong; I needed to mail the product for repair. Product was mailed and came back fixed. This time, worked for one month. It is broken again. I've just called them and they told again somebody would come to pick it up. I had to teach their customer service this is not their process (can you believe it?!). After checking they told me I should mail the product for repair. If I could, I would return it. I WILL NEVER BUY A NON-TV SAMSUNG PRODUCT AGAIN.

You can either set this up on an auto-timer or just select clean (4 stages of cleaning) when ready. It maps out all your rooms by mapping the ceiling, so it knows your rooms and if you change the furniture it doesn't mess up what it remembers about the room. It has a battery of 60 minutes and then finds its way back to its base to recharge then goes back to where it stopped and continues cleaning. I am always impressed with how much dirt it manages to find each week - and works on carpet, tile and hardwood

We have been impressed with the amount of dirt it collects. We love how it goes around instead of running into things.and we don't have to worry about it falling down steps. We have a couple of tables whith narrow legs which I think the cameras can't detect so the vacume will try to go over them and get struck. Easy to fix just set something larger in front of legs and it will go around. It is not really noisy but we have 't tried out setting it to automatically vacume on a schedule yet. We are watching it to make sure it doesn't get stuck on items. We also love how it automacally will adjust and go over our small rugs we have in places.
