I've used the adapter on an old card and it worked pretty well It seemed slow but it was probably the memory card

With the usb adapter really made transfers easy. Reading and writing to the sd card has been very quick.

Micro SD Samsung pro Plus 512gb are good cards

But in last case-with card reader. Before I bought cards with containers micro SD -SD few months ago. All items works beautiful in my smartphones and laptop. Now I save photos and movies on memory cards, and not on internal memory of my smartphones. I also freed up a lot of space on SSD of my laptop. I am fully satisfied.
