Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the SmartThings Wi-Fi Smart Plug's ease of use, compatibility with smart home systems like Alexa and Google, and its compact size. Many appreciate its affordability and the convenience of features like timers and voice control. However, some users experienced issues with connectivity and app compatibility, reporting difficulties with the device's online status and setup processes with certain apps. The overall experience appears to be positive for most, but potential app-related frustrations should be considered.

Super easy to use! I love controlling my Samsung tv from my phone so I thought why not my Christmas tree?! Easy to set up and use and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it this holiday season. It also has timer options on the app which is a huge bonus.

This plug is small and doesn't interfere with the rest of the plugs. I have tried several smart plugs and this one works best with all my smart home products. It integrated smoothly without requiring additional hubd or software.

    Setup & App Need Work

If you're just starting out, this isn't a bad choice. If you already have everything setup through smart speakers, apps, etc...you may have some trouble. I think the problem is the app, especially when you have to use both SmartThings apps because Samsung can't just migrate over to the new one for some reason. Then getting it to show up on the Google Home App was a pain as well. After a lot of frustration the plug eventually worked like it's supposed to, but if you already have a lot of things setup like I do, there are better and easier options.

The SmartThings Wi-Fi plug is super easy to connect. I am using the Samsung SmartThings hub version 2 and this setup was done in less than 3 minutes. It works exactly as advertised and has a quick response time from hub.

The SmartThings Classic app would not recognize this device. The new SmartThings app did. Once the new app recognized it, the Classic app was able to access it, too. So the plug is pretty basic and fine; the issue is with the SmartThings apps and the rough transition between the two. I was pretty happy with SmartThings when I first set it up a few years ago. Now, I doubt that I could recommend the SmartThings ecosystem. So the plug might be fine, but check to see what other systems it works with and avoid Samsung SmartThings, at least until they work out the bugs.

You need a SmartThings Hub for this product. That being said, a reliable smart plug that's guaranteed compatible with SmartThings. Also compatible with Google Assistant. SmartThings Hub & products in general are pretty reliable & compatible, especially any that are second generation & beyond. The platform has really proved to be here to stay & updates & customer support is some of the best in the IoT world imo. I've dabbled in smart home products for 5+ years & SmartThings was one of the 1st platforms I used. I've stuck with it for a reason.

I have a bunch of smart home things all tied together using a SmartThings hub. My current project is making the house as bright as possible for my partner who has vision issues. Because I’m putting lights in random places that aren’t attached to light switches, I want them to come on with motion. I’m using a motion sensor to trigger the smart plug. I have 4 or so of these. All of various iterations. They all work great. They are very stable and easy to set up. I would recommend these if you have a ST hub.

So far, this little smart plug has worked extremely well for me. It integrates well with Samsung SmartThings and Google Home, and it has reliably controlled my living room lamps since I bought it. The only thing that I was slightly unhappy with was the initial cost. It made sense for me since I already had a bunch of SmartThings devices, but if that had not been a consideration, I would have potentially went with a cheaper option.

Bought this originally for our tree. But we have an Echo Dot in the living room and a Google Home mini in the bedroom. The Amazon SmartPlug is only controlled by Alexa where this one can be controlled by either, or the Samsung app. (of which you’ll setup and pair to first) So we swapped locations and both work perfectly as we wanted. Alexa controls our tree and Google controls our bedroom light. I will be buying more of these for other floor lamps in our house.
