The Blu-Ray functionality and picture are just what you would expect -high quality image and sound, but if you are looking for bells and whistles, this isn't a great choice. The plastic used for this player is ultra thin and flimsy, and as soon as I took it out of the box I wondered how long before I put my thumb right through the casing. The buttons are also flimsy and you can't really tell when depressing them with your finger whether or not you have done anything because there is no power or activity indicator light and it takes a good 20 aeconds to open. This becomes very frustrating as even when you are using the remote, you can't tell if you have turned theachine on or off for that amount of time. The wifi streaming seemed to work fine but not as well as other streaming devices I use: Xbox, iPad, etc. it is fine for a basic Blu-Ray, but if you truly want basic you can go even cheaper and get the same experience. Spend another fifty and get a better model.

My Background: Audio Video integrator since 1999' Good little unit, plays dvd's blu-rays cd's etc just fine. Why this gets only 2 stars? Samsung in their infinite wisdom didn't think it would be helpful to put ANY led's lights, or other indicators anywhere on the unit. My customers have no idea whether the unit is on, working or otherwise unless their tv is on to verify. This may seem dumb on a small system, yet when installing on a more complex system with several components this lack of planning causes many problems through operation chains - this unit is not even worth the small price tag.. And, this thing takes forever to turn on and start running. It works sure, but I won't be buying one again. I know consumer don't use them much - but all electronic devices greatly benefit from a display of some type. Come on Samsung - they cost about 5 cents (if even that much)...

I am only giving this blu ray player 2 stars for a few reasons. While it seems to work fine now, I had trouble with it for months right after buying it. It would randomly freeze and I would be unable to do anything unless I completely unplugged the machine from the wall. After calling Samsung multiple times, I was finally able to send it in for repairs. Since then, I haven't had any issues with it freezing. But, there are multiple things about the player that I am not a fan of. It is loud when it plays a DVD or Blu-ray. There is no on/off indicator, so if your tv is off or on another source, you have no idea if the player is turned off. It also often takes multiple times of pushing "on" before the machine actually comes on. I mostly only use this player for streaming, and it does that fine (since I got the freezing thing taken care of). Overall, the player works (now), but I would never buy this same one again, nor would I recommend it.

i purchased two of these. after only a few days, one of them started freezing up. i'm not talking about loading or streaming problems; i'm referring to the image freezing and not being able to push any buttons to unfreeze it. the only way to fix it was to unplug the whole unit for a minute to allow it to reset itself. this would happen several times a day. called best buy and was told to bring it back in for a replacement. when i brought it in, they replaced it, but informed me that this is something that is usually handled by the manufacturer, and if i have any problems with the replacement, to contact samsung. a few hours after getting it home, the new one started doing the same thing. and a couple of days later, the other one from my original purchase started doing it as well. i'm a busy person, so i haven't had a chance to contact samsung. but, i gotta say, i'm very disappointed.

Should have researched befor purchased, and should have returned. First , display is nonexistent . You can not tell if on or off . A visible LED would solve this . Always frustrating . First year early used . Second , half the time the picture plays but no sound . Have unplug from Wall one or more times . Third , picture disappears , machine unresponsive and have to unplug power . Forth , other times use remote to power up , does not turn on and neither does hitting power button on box . Unfortunately , was not fully aware of problems until just out of warrenty . Bought to be consistent with Samsung TV and sound bar . Unit is junk . May still go with Samsung replacement player but will buy warrenty and use player immediantly providing power light exists . Otherwise will go with Sony .

Great for discs not for streaming

I have exchanged this player 3 times in 6 months. Plays discs for the most part. However trying to stream our Netflix or Youtube is becoming more of a hassle. Although I've had these issues sporadically over time it has been daily over the past 2 weeks. Kept saying I had internet issues (IP address) and would have to unplug everything, resign in, etc daily. Then that didn't even fix it anymore. Player is up to date and have even reset and didn't' help. Finally just had to run Ethernet cord directly to fix problem (Didn't want to do which was why I bought WiFi). Now when streaming Netflix I have to unplug the player after ever show/movie because it freezes on black screen. Have to 2 year protection plan (just exchanged for this one a month ago) but it's useless because our store only carries maybe 4 -6 players and only 2 are WiFi. Do not buy to stream!!!

Why I Returned This For A Sony

    1. Wi-Fi connection frequently was slow or dropped altogether. 2. After power off/on, the Wi-Fi credentials disappeared and had to be re-entered. 3. After power/off on, DLNA media device has to be manually connected. 4. IMO remote control is a busy array of unintuitive buttons. 5. Remote control will only control a Samsung TV. Entering a code for another brand TV is not possible. 6. I did not like the user interface. 7. No power on LED on front panel. 8. No USB port on front panel. Notes: - I exchanged this for a similarly priced Sony BDP-S3700. The Sony does not have the aforementioned problems. - All Wi-Fi devices in my house have no problems with Wi-Fi connections - In 2014, I had same Wi-Fi problems with a Samsung BD-F6700 - Picture and sound qualities of both Samsung and Sony were about equal.

Would Not Connect to My Building WIFI

All went well with the physical installation and the DVD player was impressive. However, when attempting to connect to my building's newly installed WIFI, it found the network which I selected and, when entering my password, the connection screen appeared and the machine froze. It would accept no inputs and had to be forced off with the power button. This experience was repeated 4 times. I have successfully connected 5 other devices to the new WIFI with no problems. I connected the Samsung J5700 to another network with no problems. The machine was exchanged for another which did the same thing.

I owned the non wifi version of this and loved it. It was simple, integrated with everything well, great picture, etc. I would give that model 5 stars. I bought this WiFi version to use Amazon Prime it isn't on Apple TV. As a blu-ray player, it is great - simple, easy to use, integrates well, etc., but I the WiFi is far more complicated and difficult than any other wifi product I have ever used. I have never had a wifi or router issue, and I admit that this may be a Me Issue, but the device should be WiFi idiot proof like every other product out there with WiFi. I played with the WiFi settings for a while and got it to connect, but not sure exactly why/how and have not been able to reconnect again since. Again, this may be something I am doing wrong, but it really shouldn't be that hard.

Bought this Player on sale so the price was nice. Hooked it up and could not get it to connect to my wifi. Called Samsug CS and we did all the trouble shooting and it still would not connect, so they said to call my internet provider and see if there was something on the router that was keeping it from connecting. i did and they could not get it to connect either. i ended up returning it, so for the player itself i can't say very much other than when playing blu rays they looked and sounded fine. i can tell you the samsung customer service was top notch. they tried everything they could to get it to work and when it wouldn't they offer to send me another one but it was faster to return it to the store. unfortunately, they were out, so i am no looking at other options. So CS gets 5 stars product gets 2 stars.

I purchased this unit for its WI-FI capability as we are trying to discontinue cable TV. We infrequently watch TV for any reason, but both times we have contemplated Netflix, there have been problems connecting. The first time, I contacted Samsung via chat and they walked me through a software update which solved the problem. Weeks later, we attempted Netflix again, only to have the same issue. I haven't had time to make contact with Samsung and start the process all over. The other thing I do not like is there are no lights on the front of the unit. When using the remote you are unsure if you have turned the unit on until after about 10 - 15 seconds when the TV lights up. I would not recommend this unit at all.

In my opinion there are many things that Samsung could do to improve this system. To start things off this is the 4th one of these systems that I have bought. This is a replacement to one of the previous ones that randomly stopped working. These units do not have any indicator lights on them to let you know whether it is on or not and the unit that is being replaced frequently would fail to turn on. For the money that these products cost, a simple indicator light should be included and you expect the product to respond when demanded. Features work fine when they work.

The unit turns itself on by itself and activates my television into think I want to use the player and switches my input to the player when I don't want to use it. If I turn it off, minutes later it activates the television input again. Very aggravating. I have to unplug the HDMI input to watch television. Also, If I put in a Blu-ray the unit stops playing the movie (acts like it's buffering) then starts back after missing sections of the movie. If I let the movie sit in the player for a while it seems to play a little better. I've had several Smart Blu-ray players and they've all had issues. Can't they make a Blu-ray player that does what it's supposed to?

Does not stream smoothly, apps not supported

    Posted
    TechnicalDifficulty

I have had my model for about two years now and I have had issues with it from the first week. I have to preform a hard reset of the device about once a month because it stops connecting to apps and won;t stream anything. Today after spending an hour online with HULU customer support because even the hard reset wouldn't work, I was told this model is no longer supported for app updates so I can't use it to stream HULU at all, so now I have to replace the device if I want to actually use the apps I am paying for. Save your money people, definitely not worth it for a streaming device.

Blu Ray Player that Doesn't Perform as Advertised

I bought this Blu Ray player for the express reason that it supported DLNA. Come to find out, it doesn't as Samsung no longer supports the software that allows the player to connect to your network. It is a clear case of false advertising in my opinion. In all other aspects, it performs well. I gave it to my mother as she didn't have a Blu Ray player and she may use it to view Netflix movies on it. This isn't Best Buy's fault as it is not their responsibility to make sure every item they sell performs as advertised. This is totally on Samsung which is sad as I thought they were a more reputable company.

    WiFi Lacking

This unit has a very weak WiFi receiver and poor Java programming. I maintain (7) other wireless devices in my home with a newer N600 dual band router. Had this box within 12 feet of the router and it would not connect. Tried WPS, pass-key, and even disabled all router security. Multiple re-boots and hard resets... still no network connection. Additionally, the front of box has no 'powered on' indicator light which can be confusing if using multiply playback devices. Disc playback quality & sound were good, but I need a working network connection. Returning for a better model.

We needed a blue ray player and wanted one that streams. It says it streams over 250 different streaming services, but I have not been able to find out to download more than the 8 or 10 that come on it. The first day I hooked it up I had to call Samsung and run through 20 min worth of steps to get it to work. Sometimes the wifi says it is not working and it won't stream, but the wifi works on our other devices. We wanted something cheap to play blue rays and stream with wifi and I think that's exactly what we got. I wish we would have spent the extra money on something more reliable.

Amazon Prime app not supported on this model

We were led to believe that the Amazon Prime Video app was available on this model. However, it quit working after the first week or so and the Amazon website does not show it as a supported model. Why is it then supposedly available? And why did it work to begin with then quit? Also does not have another app available that we were used to using. Do not care for the Smart Hub menu on this model either. Only purchased this because our older Samsung bluray player stopped playing blu-ray dics. Had to hook it back up so we could use all our apps. Evidently this model is too basic for us.

    No red indicator light

    Posted
    SusieD99

The power buttons on the DVD player itself does not have a red indicator light. So my problem with this is- i never knew if I had left it on or off during the night. The buttons are also very hard to touch - if you can understand what I mean- ex. it wasn't like a soft press to shut off. The shape of this model is curved in the front, additionally with a ribbed texture. This product does not come with the electronic cord you need to connect to your TV, you will need to purchase that seperatley (unless you have it already).

I bought 2 of these because I needed one two watch blue ray and netflix in my bedroom, and a second to replace another samsung I had had for years. Both work erratically sometimes bringing up the disk menu image from the blu ray without the menu and has to be restarted, or the one I use for netflix restarts when searching movies. But can't afford anything else at the time so I have to put up with it. Since both do the same thing with the blu ray disk have to assume it is something with the player itself.
