    Low-level Player

I have had a number of issues with this blu-ray player. For one thing, THERE IS NO INDICATOR LIGHT. Samsung - why on earth did you do this? I even heard a popular radio host complain about this and someone called into the show to complain as well! I understand it seems like a small complaint but it causes so much confusion and frustration. Which brings me to my next point: that this player has gone completely unresponsive twice in the six months I've had it. Troubleshooting was extremely difficult and frustrating without an indicator light. I had no idea if my remote or the power/ eject buttons weren't working, if my hdmi cables/ my TV were the problem or if it was even powered on at all. I don't watch movies very frequently, so after a week or so when I was too busy to return it I tried it and it suddenly worked. At the five month mark when it happened again it felt too late to return, so I still have it. Each time it's 'died' on me, passing time has been the only thing to solve it. The picture quality is good and it runs smoothly, even if it's a little loud. If you're looking for a blu-ray player for an extra room, one of your kids or just want one for the occasional movie, this will work fine. If you're looking for a really good blu-ray player and plan on using it frequently, spend the extra money on a different model (or go for the 4K players at this point).

I bought this player because my older SONY bluray did not have wireless connectivity which I discovered was important for receiving periodic online updates. Turns out the SONY player couldn't play the "All Things Must Pass - the story of Tower Records" bluray disc because it's manufactured on a BD-R disc (recordable bluray, the choice of the movie producer). Sooooo, I went to Best Buy and purchased the Samsung player that they demonstrated would play this disc (the choice of many "documentary" movie production companies - they don't want to produce a huge amount of factory "silver discs" in case they don't sell many. I get it.) Everything works perfectly on this Samsung player. It warrants 5 stars. Why only 3 stars? Some knucklehead at Samsung thought is would be a good idea to NOT manufacturer it with a Power On/Off light!!! O.K., so here's how they decided you would know the unit was ON - per the instructions, simply push the Open/Close disc drawer function. That turns it On. Oh, right, there is a power button on the front of the player...just no light to tell you it's on. Ergo: 3 stars for really dumb engineering. Frustrating as.....!

I have had the BD 5700 bluray player for a few weeks now and find that while it works ok there are a few negatives. The supported app package that comes with this player includes only the most popular apps most people use e.g. Netflix, Amazon prime, Hulu and Pandora and several apps that don't get much play . If you like sports , this bluray player is not for you because it does not have MLB, or any other major sports app . You might have to get Apple TV or another device to access your favorite sports team if your smart HDTV does not have the app, an additional cost or step . I concur with others that having to open and close the blu ray player's tray manually to insert discs instead of with a remote is annoying. On the positive side, the player works fine playing movie blu rays paired with a good Samsung sound bar or audio system. I also have not had any WIFI connectivity issues or excessive download times while streaming from Apps. This player is not costly and I guess you get what you pay for so if you are only interested in the very basic streaming apps then this player is fine for the price.

I have used this player for over a month now with ok results so far. It plays up to 1080p blu rays and the picture quality is sharp with decent color saturation. I have streamed netflix and amzon prime content and have not experienced any download delays or dropped signal issues. Though I must confess that the blu ray is located close to my WIFI router where the signal is strong. My main issue with this player is that the app suite it comes with is limited in sports related content. There is no MLB app for instance. Also, the remote cannot open/close the disc tray. Has to be done manually. As others have also mentioned, there is no on/off light to show the player is on. But for the person who is only looking for a basic player at a reasonable price this player will satisfy most needs. Unfortunately, the lack of sufficient sports apps was a deal killer for me.

On the outside, this product seems to be more compatible than Roku at playing various media types, but due to the lack of available Opera Apps, a slow/clunky UI, and limited transcoding for media types this is a mediocre option for a media center. A big selling point for our family was the BD player which is a feature Roku obviously doesn't have. As a side note: Opera TV (their channel/app store) used to offer HBOGO as an app, but this is no longer the case. After reading around on the internet I discovered that there is an intention to change this for the future, but I've yet to find a timeline on this. As for the transcoding problems, it is able to play most media types, but not all encoding methods for those media types. Example, I have an mp4 video that will play fine and another mp4 video that will not play. Both media files play fine using software such as VLC.

I have purchased two of these DVD players. Works great on movies. BUT, both players freeze on DVD's with multiple episodes on the disk. Both DVD players are brand new. The DVD box set I was watching was also brand new. This seemed to rule out the need for the player to be cleaned. Both players stop in exactly the same spot (episode 3 on a disk with 5 episodes) on the each of the same disks. I was told by a rep at Best Buy that this sounds like some some sort of reader issue. My only option was to pack it up, pay for shipping and send it directly back to Samsung, which is a bummer and kind of a pain.

    Great TV; Lousy pickup

I'm very pleased with the new TV you delivered. Not sure i need the ROKU I bought, however. On 8 Dec, I advised that I had a very large 200+ lbs TV that needed to be removed. On 11 Dec a 2-man crew dropped off the new TV, but had no room to pick up my old TV. The pickup was rescheduled for today, 28 Dec 12:00-4:00 PM, but no one called or showed up. After 20 minutes on the phone at 4:30, I found out they weren't going to show up. This is outrageous! No reason was given. I will never go through this again with Best Buy. I still have the old TV and no idea when it will be picked up, but apparently not this year. And you call this service!!! The only reason I went with Bet Buy is because they said they would pick up the old TV.

I am by no means an electronic whiz. That being said, this blu ray player works well except that as a smart player it is battling with the Samsung smart TV, and winning. I would prefer if I had purchased a "non-smart" player and allowed the television to rule the roost. With both units being smart, the blu ray has taken over so that it is difficult to turn on everything with the system button on the cable remote and have access to anything except the blu ray player. I would prefer to have TV first, and not have to turn off the blu ray player to get the TV cable working. I am sure there is a way to do it, but since I am not that geek- I can't do this simple task on my own, and I'll just have to deal with it until some other expert comes along to fix it.

The player works fine for playing blu-ray discs. Picture quality and sound are what you'd expect for 1080p. I hooked up the player, connected to WiFi and did a system update. Even after updating, the built in streaming for Netflix and Hulu are definitely not HD. Digging further into the specs, it looks like streaming apps run at 480p. It's a bit disappointing that in 2017, anyone would include a 480p app on a player designed to play 1080p discs. There's no power indicator light but otherwise it does what I wanted it do it, play blu-ray disc rentals from Netflix. Decent player for the price if you're not planning on using it to stream anything. Just tried Netflix and Hulu, did not try YouTube or casting from home network.

    Open Box Blahs

True, I saved a few coins buying open box but I encountered troubles from the very day of hook-up. First obstacles was no type of user manual at all, good thing I know a little about how these things work. Then, after getting it connected I turn it o and go to Netflix and someone else's account is already set up. This is the part where I needed the manual to easily set up my account. I finally figured it out. I've pretty much enjoyed the player since then even though at times it would freeze up and lose wi-fi connection. Recently, it's been doing that a lot. I'm watching a movie and it just freezes. The only button on the remote that works is the on/off button. To get any screens up I have to unplug the unit and re-plug it. You can imagine this frustration.

It provided very good audio and video for its price. However I returned it because it was too light and slid with the slightest touch closing the drawer and had to be held down. I could have closed it with the remote to overcome this issue (for me) but there were other annoyances like no power on light and it didn't play well with my Logitech Harmony Elite universal remote. After several hours of trying to get them to work together, I packed it up and returned it. I'm still searching for a worthy replacement. It will make less fussy buyers very happy, just not me.

Not liking the fact that Samsung took away the LED power light on the console. It would be nice to know whether or not it is on or not. Not the end of the world though. Then there is the delay when choosing Netflix. Although better than my LG but not as good as the Panasonic (which is no longer available with the features i needed). In addition, when you simply are reading more about the NETFLIX program it automatically starts to play the program. VERY IRRITATING. I will say this, it is better than the LG by far and one can get used to the quirks. Why cant they make a solid Blu-ray player with both analog and digital connections that actually works nice in this price range??? I would even pay just a bit more to avoid the frustration...

    Lagging..

So I bought this blu-ray player because it was what the associate recommended. I got it at the same time as my new Samsung 65" 4K LED TV, and he said buying a Samsung Blu-Ray player would be better than going with another brand because they "talk" better. I didn't really want this one, only because the grooves seem like they will collect a lot of dust whereas the LG one was smoother. Biggest problem I'm having is that my movies seem to be lagging...not for very long maybe half a second every 20-30 minutes or so..but it's definitely noticeable and irritating considering I just bought this amazing new tv and player and that shouldn't be happening. If anyone has any ideas why this could be happening please send them my way!

If you're just looking for an inexpensive WiFi capable player to stream Netflix, Amazon, etc... this unit will satisfy that need. Easy setup and no problems with connection to home network. The downside; the only controls on the unit are a power button and the open/close. If you misplace your remote you're out of business. There is no power light on the unit so there is no way to tell if it's on or off other than to change the input on your TV to see if the player home screen is displayed. The remote is small, cluttered and poorly laid out. There is no button illumination so if you're sitting in the dark to enjoy your viewing it's very easy to hit a wrong button. Very annoying.

Best Buy seemed to have a good price for this product, but online research listed this DVD Player for the same price, and in some cases even a lower price in other stores. While doing this research I found a Sony Blu-Ray DVD with more features, up-scaling to 4K, and more web capability plus a big discount. Since it wasn't a 4K UHD model, but did have 4K up scaling, it whad more of what I wanted. However, Best Buy wouldn't quote price directly online, plus this model was "sold out" and not available. I'm sure this SONY Blu-Ray DVD player is a good product, but since it was not available and not priced at Best Buy, I purchased it at another store.

For a Samsung product I feel that this is really subpar. Not only does the curved design not make any sense but the ridges on the top of it make it insanely hard to keep dust free. I don't know if that adds to its performance problems, but there are many. About halfway into owning this item which was less than a year's time, the player decided to not play Blu-rays anymore. DVDs and USB files would play no problem. It's just funny that this player can do everything but what it's supposed to as a Blu-ray player. Now I'm not going to stay Samsung doesn't have some great models out there but this one isn't one of them.

This is a very good product. User friendly and does well as a DVD Blue-ray device. But what keeps it from being a great product is that it has a very generic app supplier - the Opera store - so it won't open it's doors to some of the newer kids on the block like Fandango for example. It also doesn't have clearly visible indicator lights in the player for power on/off, no backlit remote and you are limited to 3 apps that you can activate in your main screen (in addition to the preloaded ones) at a time. Not a substitute for Roku, APPLE TV or another streaming player, but if you have nothing it's something. It is a DVD player with a generic streaming platform.

So the reviews on this are pretty much on point. It is hard to tell when you have powered on the player because there is no power light to indicate that the device is on and it takes a few seconds for it to send a signal to your tv. I also did have a hard time connecting the device to my wifi. I had to try about 6 times before it was able to connect, I didnt troubleshoot anything I jsut kept trying to connect to the same network. As soon as I connected to my network I applied the updates and it seems to be running fine. I only bought this player because its for our spare TV and because they did not have the Sony model in stock.

I had to return the first one I bought because it was very loud when I played disks and if I had left a disk in but was watching tv, it would make grinding noises trying to turn the disk on then stop. This new one is much quieter, although it has made the same noises a couple of times on start up or if I pause. If I completely stop the movie and start again, it doesn't make the noises anymore. Other than that it works fine. In the past three years I have had to return blu-ray players for malfuctions simular to above. I had replaced 3 sony blu-ray players so that's why I switched to Samsung. So good luck and hopefully everyone will have better luck than me!

As a blue ray player, this DVD player works great , and I have absolutely no complaints. But everything else that the player has to offer, is much different. The wifi almost never works. We live in a 1 bedroom apartment, not very big. And the DVD player is in our bedroom, since we have a smart tv in our living room. Whenever we try to use netflix, it will almost never load. Our wifi reaches everywhere in the home, so the connection isnt the issue. When it does load, you can only get a few minutes into a movie before it starts to go back to loading. I wouldn't recommend for the wifi part, but the DVD player tself works great. I'm going to go back to using chromecast.
