|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a much smaller (size and capacity) drive, but it was not fast enough to use on my laptop for gaming ( I run games off the external drive to make them portable). So I went on a hunt and found this gem. It is the size of a credit card and comes with both usb3 type A and C connections. This sucker is fast and shows no sign of slowing down. I moved my game over (over 18Gbs) in about 3 mins. A lot faster than my other SSD drive I was using prior. Like all good things you have to take the read/write with a grain of salt. Large files (movies and such) will transfer faster than a bunch of smaller files. this is due to finding, moving, registering and verifying each file. So you can see how a single file will be faster in this case. Likes: size, weight, portability, connection options, speed and pocket-ability. Dislikes: none at this time. Though I doubt I ever will.

Well, for starters, IT'S THE SIZE OF A CREDIT CARD! But a little thicker. Extremely portable. Has USB-C to USB-C included, and with the phone app, you can transfer files strait to this. So, Take all the pics and vids you want and when your phone fills up, Transfer them right on over. It's fast as well. Fast enough to game with no HD lag. Definitely recommend this over a thumb drive.

Pros: very fast read/write speeds; thin and light design Cons: needs APFS formatting on Mac; USB 3.2 Gen 2 required for full speed; love/hate the aluminum casing Review: Samsung’s T-series SSDs have long been one of the top choices for creative professionals to add to their machine’s internal storage. The T7 offers max sequential read/write speeds of 1,050/1,000 MB/s, respectively. This is insanely fast, especially compared to 5400 RPM external hard drives that top out at around 100 MB/s. All of this storage and performance is packed into an insanely thin and light design; the case has the same dimensions as a credit card, is 8mm thin, and weighs just 2 oz. You really need to hold a T7 to appreciate how well engineered it is. Out of the box, the T7 is formatted as ExFAT, which is compatible with both Windows and MacOS. I tested the drive by copying two folders (~15k files, 105 GB total) from my 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro (base configuration) to the T7. With the drive formatted to ExFAT, my write speed was ~270 MB/s - still much, much faster than a standard, 5400 HDD, but far off from the theoretical max speed. After some fiddling, I was able to reformat the drive as Apple File System (AFPS) and my write speed improved to an impressive ~600 MB/s write and ~700 MB/read, which is more in-line with what I expected to see. I should note here that I have two bottlenecks in my test that limit the drive’s max speed. First, my machine has USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports, not the 3.2 Gen 2 required for maximum transfers. Second, I was transferring lots of small files, which move slower than larger ones. Hence, using the drive as part of a pro-workflow (e.g., photography with RAW files, video editing with 4K clips) should net better performance than using it to backup documents. Last, I have a love/hate relationship with the aluminum casing. On one hand, the aluminum enclosure provides that premium feel you’d expect from this device. On the other, I cringe every time the drive slides across my metal desk or, on the occasion, when it makes contact with my MacBook.

Please know that sometimes customers are unaware of the formatting and initialization steps that must take place before using the drive. The drive might thus appear "DOA." Samsung does not place any formats on the SSD to allow customers to use it for their specific setup.

Setup is easy, you plug the drive in, and run the T7 software. It comes with two USB cords, a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-A to USB-C. So, there are options. I did do a test run and created a backup on my gaming desktop (Using USB-C to C) and I created an image of my computer in under thirty minutes. I love this tiny drive. I love the size and features. I primarily utilize this drive to store all my photographic work and it transfers photos super-fast, so if you need something small and fast for portability, this drive is perfect for you.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is the first SSD drive I’ve owned and I know I shouldn’t have been surprised by how small it is, but... it’s crazy small for a 1TB drive that works this swiftly. Build quality seems exceptional. The packaging is nice and it comes with both USB-C and USB-A cables to take care of whatever you intend to plug it into. I’ve been mainly using it with an iPad Pro and the drive was immediately recognizable the first time I plugged it in. No issues there, so far. I also used it with a Windows 10 PC to make a copy of years worth of photos and videos from a different drive. I didn’t check to see what the actual write speed was, but I was completely impressed and satisfied. It was far faster than anything I’ve used in the past, that I can assure. If you’re in the market for one of these, I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed by what Samsung has made here.

Very compact in size for what is typically thought of as a portable SSD. I have an external closure for an M.2 card and while it is a little skinnier, it is definitely taller, and obviously a traditional portable 2.5" drive is significantly larger. The size is perfect, not too small to lose like a Flash Drive, but not so big like a portable 2.5". Running some speed tests may not hit the theoretical times it says it can, but real world was plenty fast. I moved 3.17GB Folder with various photos and videos in about 3 seconds. I don't have access to a 3.2 USB-C port, but I do have thunderbolt ports on my main laptop and again for my use it is really good. The aluminum casing is a nice touch, running the speed tests it did get warm, but under normal usage it stayed neutral temp to touch. If you are in the market for a good portable SSD, I would highly recommend the Samsung T7. Only complaint is I ordered the Indigo Blue and received the Gray one.

Did he take the right one. This hard drive works great. I recommend the Samsung T7 to anyone needing more space.

I had been looking some backup storage for a little while but didn't want a standard flash drive or an SD card, but I also didn't want a full size external hard drive. This is the perfect form factor, about the size of a playing card and the thickness of ~20 cards, it is easy to pop into a pocket or bag, but not so small that it's easy to misplace. I have already put several gigabytes of documents on it and the transfer speeds were fantastic. Older drives of mine can take their time with larger files, but this drive just beats them all. Really enjoying this one so far, and I might have to get a second one. I would absolutely recommend it.

What I do know is that I was able to transfer about 4K photo's with some videos mixed in in less than 4 minutes. It took be about an hour to transfer those same files form my phone to my PC. The setup was easy. You just plug it in, find the device, and tell it with system you are using it on. It installed and updated the software itself and I had no issues. It's super fast with no noise being made at all. I would say that it weights a few ounces and is about the the equivalent to 6 credit cards stacked on top of one another as far as both width and length.

Very nice encrypted drive

It is also an attractive greyish color. It was well packaged and included two USB cables; an “A” to “C” and a “C” to “C”. The instructions are about like any other, not overwhelming, but not really needed for this drive. Test: I first plugged the drive into my 2018 MacBook Pro. It was immediately recognized and mounted. When I opened the drive, it had the software installers for Apple devices and Windows devices. For Android users, you need to download the software, and it had a text file with a link in it to download the Android software. I installed the software and it came right up. The software is very simple and only gives you a few options. If you select Security Mode On, you will set the password for the drive. You can also change the name of the drive and change the password. Finally, you can update the app through the app. That’s it, everything else is handled behind the scenes. When you put in your password, the install files are no longer displayed, and you are in the encrypted drive. You can add, delete, and copy files, and everything else you would do with an external drive or thumb drive. When you are done, eject the drive and you are back to the read-only partition containing the install files. I plugged the drive into my Windows 10 laptop. The drive came right up and presented the read-only partition with the install files. I tried copying a file over and it was denied. I looked in Drive Manager and the Samsung T7 was displayed as unallocated space. I installed the app and then it was displayed as a healthy exFAT partition. When I ejected the drive, it went back as unallocated space in Drive Manager. The same test on my MacBook Pro had the same results. On both laptops, I put in my password and opened the drive. I then locked the screen, unlocked the screen, and then opened the drive. On both laptops, the drive went back to an encrypted mode and required my password to open it again. This was the exact behavior I was hoping for because I’m using this drive for its security features, not ease of use. I did not try this drive on an Android device, so I cannot comment on that option using this drive. Performance: On my MacBook Pro, I copied 8 video files that totaled 12 GB. When connected to the Laptop using the USB “A” to “C” adapter, it took just under 5 minutes to copy over. When I used the “C” to “C” cable, the same files only took 11 seconds. Very impressive performance. I did not do the performance test on the Windows laptop. Conclusion: This is a great encrypted drive. It offers AES-256 encryption without being complex. When using USB 3, it has a good upload/download speed. The app is easy to use, and the drive is lightweight enough to carry in your pocket and not weigh you down. For an easy to use encrypted external drive, I highly recommend this drive. Just remember, you must have the software installed on every device you want to use it on. If this is not a problem, then the Samsung T7 can and probably should replace using regular non-secured USB drives for easy data transfers.
