Not as fast with an older computer but external SSD has same increase in performance as internal SSD when compared to a mechanical drive.

I ended up going a different route. Its a good external storge. I saved an entire college course worth of lecture videos the textbook etc and all years worth of pictures to clear out my cloud storage

I gave it to her for Christmas as her Samsung Galaxy Note 20 was running out of storage space fast. Connected it to her cellphone, followed the instructions and Voilà!!! her cellphone now has mote than half of its 128G storage capacity. Works like magic, highly recommended.
