    I only edit off of SSD’s so glad they are coming down in price. Now they just need to make them in 10-20tb for a reasonable price just stay away from Western Digital. Over a decade i’ve had about 5 western digitals go bad. Never had a samsun or g drive go bad. Also i edit in 8k so ssd is mandatory.

    bought it and right away it started giving my mouse issues, a year later it only allows uploads at a whole 3Mb per second.

    Your external SSD shows ultra-poor performance

    In a word, TERRIBLE! Despite the number of times I visited Best Buy and the Geek Squad, no one was able to improve the run time for merely doing a copy-and-paste of my data from my internal SSD (C:\) to this external SSD. In fact, my rotary external Passport drive ran circles (more than 150%) over my subject SSD. I backed up my data onto my rotary drive in about 3 hours, whereas my B/U onto my external SSD took in excess of 8 hours. Even when I tried deleting older versions of my data on the external SSD, it took about 3 hours merely to complete the Calculating phase alone. It was unnerving! This same poor performance happened with an external SSD drive with another brand ... AND, such poor performance occurred on my second laptop that I purchased at the same time as my first laptop. Both of my laptops performed unacceptably with your external SSD. I wish there was an answer, but there does not seem to be any. So I'll be returning my external SSD today. Question: How can copying my data on an internal SSD to an external SSD take longer than when using an external rotary drive??? Baffling! I'd love to hear back from you.

    Really wanted to like this thing…. After rehashing online, turns out that the supplied cable is trash. It wouldn’t even connect and would freeze up my computer until I unplugged it. Changed the cable and I can now at least get it to connect. Transfer speeds are trash as well, no well near the as advertised. I would not recommend it. I gave it 2 stars because it is rugged so if you don’t care about speed and need something to hold up outdoors then should be considered but there’s better options out there.

    Excellent small drive for long-term storage

    This is a solid drive to use. I have recently been prepping to record music in a studio, and they recommended having a pair of T7 drives to store the master recordings, so these seem to be the gold standard for the recording industry. I cannot comment on the “shield” aspect of this drive, as I haven’t thrown it against a wall or dropped it just to test it, but it is a comfort to know that the files should be safe for a long time. Physically, it is a very nice touch that the exterior is rubberized, making it much more difficult to drop than the plain metal cases of the non-shield version of the T7. You also get a USB3 to type-C cable to connect to your computer or hub. Transfer speeds seem to be good, though I'm not an expert on what to expect. I'm interested in using the drive for long-term storage, so the SSD should be better than a standard spinning HD which is more delicate and susceptible to magnetic interference and such. Overall, this is a great little drive, giving about 2TB of storage in the size of a credit card, just about 1cm thick.

    The perfect portable drive

    This is the nicest all around drive I have owned. The drive is super fast with SSD internal drive. The looks are also very attractive and the drive is rugged. Samsung thoughtfully packed this with different cables making it useful for more than just laptops. There is software to install for Mac and PC, but also works flawlessly for my iPad Pro with the USB-C cable. With it being solid state, it is completely noiseless and doesn’t become hot with ongoing use, even with intensive reads and writes. Most of my other drives are considerably larger and not nearly as portable. With multiple laptops, this is the one that I carry with me for every occasion. While this might not seem so important, I’m writing this as I stand in line at an airport with a very heavy backpack. The weight and size of the drive matters, especially when traveling. As SSD drives become less expansive, these will become the standard for portable storage. Samsung always provides top of the line products and this is no exception.

    The upload of documents are mo faster than hard drives. I have only used it when backing up Quicken data. Not eorth the price.

    Sticky slimy "shield"

    I've bought a couple Samsung external drives in the T-series and been very happy. Needed another one and this one was available (in spite of Best Buy's generally terrible availability issues), so I grabbed it. Stay away if you don't like that slimy rubbery feeling of dense rubber/silicon (?). It feels oily and smells like petroleum. And I'm sure in about 2 years it's going to have that sticky rubbery texture with clotted dust going on. Yuck. Missed my return window or I would have taken it back.

    Didn't use it, has to return it for some reason. UPS mixed up my return with something else, So no refund ! BESTBUY doesn't care about his customers, you have to figure out on your own !

    Yes, I know it costs more than a non-SSD drive, but I'm thinking it is worth it. I think the info we put on it is much more secure from loss. And we're not gonna get better than Samsung. Yeah.

    Not impressed, this drive would store things okay, but it would not be discoverable by my Xbox series x from time to time. I kept having to unplug it and plug it back in every time I used it.

      Thank you for purchasing the T7 Shield SSD. Thank you for sharing the issue of your SSD not being consistently discoverable.

      There are a few things you can check.

      1) Disconnect the cable and try again, making sure it is properly connected
      2) Make sure the connector on the board does not contain any debris, or is not damaged,
      3) Replace the cable and try again,
      4) Connect the SSD to a different port - either a regular port or expansion port,
      5) Lastly, connect the SSD to a different device to check if there is a problem with the SSD itself.

    STAY AWAY. BUY SANDISK OR ANYTHING ELSE

    Please DO NOT BUY. My setup: MACOS Monterey Purchased 2 4TB SSDs. Initially when I bought it in 2023, it worked fine, now the speed is down to 1.3 MB (Worst than HDD). I am afraid to lose any data so not playing around until I can safely move data from this drive. Which should take about 3-4 months based on the speed.

    Failing after barely any use compared to others

    Drive is failing after just 18 months of infrequent use, the drive sitting on the desk and hardly handled, and only 780GB written to it. Really disappointed. The drive cannot complete a Samsung Magician diagnostic scan which fails to complete

    Absolutely useless piece of garbage. Doesn't even work with its own brand of phone. Samsung galaxy refuses to recognize ssd but it works just fine on laptop. Yeah that doesn't help me when i need to share images through phone. I want my money back so i can buy one that works.

    I'm very disappointed with this drive. It crashes constantly and I can't feel confident in using it to safely secure my data. Unfortunately I waited to long to try and make it work and missed the return period. I don't recommend it.
