The T7 is a winner for me

I have owned every iteration of the T series drives starting from the T1. I The form factor has always been the biggest appeal for me. I did however hate the T1's MicroUSB 3.0 connector and I'm glad it's dead. The T3 was my work horse for a while until the T5 came out and I wanted to go bigger. All of my drives have been reliable and quick for their time. I passed them on to family members when I upgraded to a new drive and they are all still in use, save for the T1 which I had sold. When the T7 was announced with the fingerprint scanner I knew it was going to be my next portable drive. I primarily use this drive for backing up the photos and videos from my phone/tablet. I am not a big proponent of the cloud. I see the merits, and will use it for some applications, but for pictures/video of my family, I keep all my personal digital media on this SSD which is later dumped onto my media vault NAS. I always feel safer knowing I have redundant copies of digital memories of my toddler. When your kid grows so quick you will be forever grateful you always have the digital captures of that moment in time. Form factor wise it is slimmer than the T5 but a little longer, but the difference is negligible. I carry my drive in a Chums Surfshort wallet, which has 2 separate zippered compartments which is the perfect size of the T7/T5 and the other zippered pocket will store the USB cable and a few extra usb adapters. It's not padded but I've been using it like this for the last 5 years and I have never had a problem. Though I have had to replace the wallet due to wear from constant use, the drives are always looking new. Real world applications in my use case, the drive is extremely quick to offload my data from my phone and quicker still when uploading to the NAS when I get home, but now it's been made quicker with the fingerprint scanner. I love not having to enter a password. I plug in and when I seen the blue outline spinning I pop my finger on the square and it's unlocked immediately. I could not ask for a more seamless experience. I used to carry an unsecured thumb on my keyring for quick file transfers from my work computer/laptop but now with how quick the T7 is, I haven't used the thumb drive since it got it. I don't know what the T9 has in store, but it'll have to be good or I may skip a generation until the next USB spec comes along. I highly recommend the T7 to anyone looking for a highly portable external drive and have turned a good amount of my friends and coworkers onto this series of drives.

The purpose of this external SSD is to transfer all my games because my ASUS ROG M15 C drive is almost full. It was great but sometimes in the middle of the game, the SSD disconnect for some reason and it's annoying and frustrating. It's plugged in 24/7 and nobody touches it. I was thinking to return it but it's too late.

You only get the basic external drive functionality without the fingerprint or security on MacOS 10.15, ie, there is no point in buying the T7. Google it (samsung t7 macos 10.15 then look for the samsung portable ssd product faqs link), its directly on Samsungs support site as of 6/5/2020 From their site: "your use of the Password Protection feature of the SAMSUNG Portable SSD Software may be restricted."

I had a T1 and it actually still works fine but I thought it might be getting slower and unreliable in connecting. Got this T7 and thought it was great at first. A few months later it won't take my password which I know is correct. That was a concern but I had my fingerprints working with it so I could still use and access. And I didn't really want to pay Samsung to reset it per their policy. Now my fingerprints are not reading on it so I am locked out. Samsung will reset it for a fee. How nice of them. Luckily this was all a back up of data and not critical to access.

Bought one from Best Buy (20200512) - Returning. Bought a second one from Best Buy 2 days later (20200514). Both getting less than 20 MBps copying small Excel files. Both getting about 150-160 MBps copying music files. This can't be normal. Is this a bad batch of T7s?

Great external device for Gaming systems

Wow! Is really the one word to describe this storage drive. I put this to use right away as I needed additional storage for games/downloads on my PS4 and I have always heard that an SSD would offer download speed increases as well as game load up increases and this delivers just that! There are some games that have ridiculously huge updates that used to take at least an hour if not longer to download but this trimmed that time down to less than a half an hour! A huge bonus is the finger print reader. I have not tested this function out yet but it seems like it is a great additional feature if you use the SSD for computer files. I also didn’t have to use the Samsung Magician software as i haven’t used this with any of my computers yet and plan to stick to using it for my PS4. I also love how small and compact it is. Easy to hide and keep out of view and easy to store away when not being used. Set up was a breeze! Pretty much plug and play for gaming systems with no hassle. Just plug in and your ready to download or transfer games right to the SSD. I got the 1TB version which was plenty for the games I wanted to get downloaded onto it. I still have plenty of room to spare! It’s definitely portable(small in size that it could fit in your pocket easily) which I’m sure also means it’s durable and could survive a drop or two but I’m not willing to test theory.

Love this portable ssd drive. I don’t know what I like more-the lightening fast read write speed, or the fingerprint recognition access. My work involves a mix of 3D modeling, BIM and data analysis all of which are memory intensive and require a high even of security. The drive is so much faster than my laptops drive I work right off it, I store all my files and some of my programs on it and utilize it like an internal drive. I hit the save button and boom, a file that was taking 45 seconds to save to my laptop drive is saved to the ssd in the blink of an eye. The physical size makes it convenient to just pop into my tote to take to the office to be share files, and the inferprint ID helps me feel comfortable that my private info and data remains private and inaccessible. I would recommend this to anyone needing a whole lot of storage that can be accessed super fast and who want that data to remain private . I recieved this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest feedback. Read less

Samsung's newest portable T7 is an incredible addition to their line up. Many mobile devices don't come with large storage spaces, tablets, notebooks, phones. This 1TB SSD is the answer to all your storage questions. The transfer speeds are unmatched thanks to the new USB 3.2 Gen 2 thats used on this drive. As a photographer, this drive has become my #1 storage method of my DNG RAW files.

To be honest, my husband and I couldn't be any happier with our slim and sleek T7 Touch 1TB External USB 3.2 Gen 2 Portable Solid State Drive. I must say it did take us more time than usual to get it set up but that's because our finger prints weren't reading. We managed to get it figured out and we love it. It's slim and I'd say about the size of a stack of credit cards, so it's very easy to transport. I'm able to throw it in my work purse and go without any issues due to it being a solid state drive as well. I've seen a few people say that it lags but after a month of use I haven't had that issue. I'd have to say Samsung got it right with this little device and we have no complaints at all.

This Portable SSD is exactly what the moving video editor or programmer needs. The fingerprint sensor is another great security feature and was a simple setup in the Samsung utility. This worked well both for MAC and PC. The speed is also very impressive and I didn't deal with any read write issues. Overall, I would highly reccomend this for someon who needs a portable storage device for either USB-C or standard USB-A connections.

I use this as a part of my strategy to backup my home computers. The built-in encryption means that it is perfect for keeping a backup tucked away at my office desk. The included software is needed to first set up the encryption on the drive, give it a password, and register a fingerprint. Once that is done, the software does NOT need to be installed on a 2nd machine if you can unlock it with a fingerprint. Nice touch. Write speeds are also very impressive! As long as you don't try to fill up the entire drive up at one time, the write speeds were all over 300 MB/s (even with the drive 90% full too), and were usually over 500 MB/s. No backup software is included. It is just the management software for fingerprints and passwords, and a large blank NTFS volume.

This drive does its job fast and reliably. That is the most important criteria when judging whether this portable SSD has been successful for me. Initial setup is very straightforward and takes about 5 mins for the fingerprint benchmarking, and you're off from there. I am an amateur photographer and GoPro enthusiast, so this is a great and secure SSD device that will securely hold those two things for much time to come. It works flawlessly for now, and I don't anticipate the fingerprint security system will be much of an issue since this technology is VERY popular in smart phones. But even if it did, there is the option to forego the bio metrics and use a traditional password.

Because my laptop is on the way out (10 years old) it was starting to slow down. But with this ssd (1tb) I was able to back up everything and if I wanted to because I still have a ton of space I can continue to use it for a long time. The security feature is cool because then no one can access your information and when the square lights up as it is copying files it gives you the technology feeling that you see the it people in movies.

I have been looking for an external drive to back up files, and something that I could use for work if need be, that was secure enough as I work with HIPAA information. The Samsung T7 is a very secure drive, and it’s small enough that it fits in my backpack. Setup is easy, you plug the drive in, and run the T7 software, it asks you if you want to use it in secure mode, and then you set a password and fingerprint. MAKE SURE YOU WRITE YOUR PASSWORD SOMEWHERE SECURE. I made the mistake and forgot my password right off the bat, and there is no way to reset it yourself. You have to take / send it to a service center for them to wipe it, THERE IS NO OPTION FOR END USERS TO RESET IT THEMSELVES. Which I find it very inconvenient. I am still attempting to recall what password I used. Luckily, I have my finger print, but now I can’t update it because I need to disable the secure mode. It comes with two USB cords, a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-A to USB-C. So, there are options. I did do a test run and created a back up on my gaming laptop (Using USB-C to C) and it created an entire backup in under 15 minutes. I love this tiny drive. I love the size and features. But as of now, I’m kind of screwed until I can figure my password or find an authorized service center nearby.

Got this for my Xbox one since it would be faster than the hard drive and I needed extra space. This thing is great! I've installed games to ot and it takes about a 1/4 of the time to load them up. My only issue is the blue LED light is always on. Otherwise its a great product!
