I have been using the Samsung T7 Touch for work the last few weeks and I am very impressed with it. It packs a punch in terms of speed for transfers and copying and all in a tiny footprint. I was a bit surprised when I opened to package and saw such a small device. It is very solid and well built. It came with a nice cable and I was up and running in no time. The only thing that you have to do is load the touch software on your computer which gives you a variety of options for using the fingerprint reader on the device. I installed it and it works great. I keep the fingerprint security on because I'm afraid that I may leave the tiny SSD behind somewhere. That tiny size is both a blessing and a very small concern. I love that it's small but it also makes for losing it, that much easier. I have dropped it in my laptop bag a few times and had a hard time locating it again. The extra security found in the fingerprint reader just adds peace of mind. Using it day to day is easy as well. Just like most other externals, the plug and play nature is seamless. I use Macs all day and it worked right off the bat. No reformatting necessary. The read/write speeds are great too. I didn't run a speed check on its throughput but it seems much faster than my other HDD externals I've used in the past. The SSD really does make a huge difference! I'm super impressed. The 1TB size works great for my needs here at the office. I see is also comes in a both a 500GB or 2TB version. Overall, this external SSD has been a great help at work and it's been a very positive experience thus far. I'm now looking forward to the day that Samsung adds larger 4 or 5TB capacity options to this line. I'd love to add one to my Xbox One X soon!

I got to back up my old laptop. I never used a SSD. It was very sleek and compact than I expected.

I preface this review with the fact that I constantly am dealing with sensitive, privileged material — which is why I was excited about this hard drive, with its built-in fingerprint scanner. If I didn’t deal with sensitive data, I’d probably have gone with the “Regular” SSD version. Additionally, it’s very possible this is just a glitch and will be patched later. That said, despite what the packaging says and what the Best Buy associate told me, this product is not FULLY FUNCTIONAL with (or, rather, at least with my) Mac (see specs below). The big issue is the Fingerprint Scanner would not work — the drive’s software wouldn’t recognize it was connected to the Mac, although Finder did; therefore, I couldn’t set up the password or fingerprints. I tried the device with two different macs, each yielding the same result: no ability to use the fingerprint scanner. However, I tried setting things up on a Surface Pro and a Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. Both the Surface and S20 had no issues and allowed me to set-up and use the fingerprint scanner. But, neither Surface or S20 allowed me to install an update the software said was necessary. Whilst the transfer speeds were fantastic on the Mac, there’s no justification for the device as its primary purpose currently does not work on my primary devices. Thus, I returned it. Specs of Macs tried: (1) MacBook Pro, 15” (2018) (macOS Big Sur, Dev. Beta 9); and (2) iMac 27” (2012) (macOS Catalina, latest release).

The fingerprint sensor is the future! Works seamlessly with my MacBook pro. I highly recommend it.
