A Solid Projector
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I chose this projector because most of my electronics are in the Google or Samsung family. I don't have anything to compare this projector to (aside from the ones from school that were huge and mounted on the ceiling). Personally I've never had TVs in my bedroom so this is a really good compromise (there's no big black rectangle on the wall, I don't have to mount anything, etc) This was easy to setup and looks amazing in my bedroom. The only con I would say is that the fan can be loud, but honestly when the volume is at 40+ you can hardly hear the fan. I use the projector without a sheet or screen and it looks good. I haven't needed to hook up with projector to an external speaker but I would definitely consider this in the future. I heard that an updated projector would be coming out within the next year so I'll definitely be looking to upgrade when that happens.

Freestyle, but is it worth your while?
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this to help with displaying something for my church. Out of the box, the setup was rather lengthy. Right from the start, I didn't like how SamsungTV Plus would just play automatically without request. Anytime you go to settings after leaving an app like Netflix, Hulu, or Starz, the projector would automatically spin up SamsungTV Plus. Did I mention this is very annoying? Somewhere the projector lost its bearings and acted as if it had nothing installed, so I had to do a complete refresh/reinstall of the OS, which was very inconvenient. The Freestyle has a lot of ingenuity and is packed with tons of features, but the Samsung Tizen OS is overburdened with all of this, causing the projector to be sluggish not only at startup, but also during normal operation. Thankfully this performance issue isn't noticed during playback of items. Unlike other projectors, this one does have the full suite of streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, HBO Max, Sling, Alexa, Hulu, and more) either downloaded to the device or available for installation via the Samsun Store. On the bright of things, the projector has its on stand with 180 degree motion. It has only one micro HDMI port and that's it. The bottom of the projector is designed to outfit an extra capacity battery. It has a very intuitive smart remote that has to be recharged ever-so-often via USB-C and the projector also uses USB-C for operation, speakers are solid with option for the projector to connect to your bluetooth enabled device, and its portability is honestly the best part. Now to the picture quality. BBY's specs tout 550 Lumens (Color/White) with a 300:1 contrast ratio. In a real world setting, any ounce of light, even at night, washes out the picture. In my living room, daylight kills the image, even with blinds. So I can't watch it till nighttime in my home unless I black out my windows. I believe the projector is more like 300 Lumens and I do find myself at times having to sharpen the focus on the image (although I am shooting on a white wall and not a screen). High Notes: the projector does have auto focus and keystone which works well until something stands in front of it for too long and it reanalyzes the picture. I noticed there wasn't an easy way to pint the auto focus/keystone feature, so the only option was to restart the device. Overall, this is a very smart and unique device. I managed to find a price match on BBY's site which made it $599, and in all honesty, it should be cheaper. The picture brightness, focus and contrast ratio could be better. Portability and ease of use is excellent, excluding the lengthy setup. The OS latency/sluggishness and Samsung TV Plus running automatically is highly annoying, especially with it doing this as you attempt to navigate settings. Essentially, it attempts to emulate a TV, which is again understandably annoying. I'm still on the fence about keeping this device for we have a love-hate relationship. Of course, if none of this concerns you, and your only need is to have a portable, point and shoot at anything home media/theater projector; the Freestyle is a fair choice, if on sale.

Posted .JSmooth,
While The Freestyle may currently default to Samsung’s TV Plus app, please know you can choose what your projector does when you turn it on by going to Menu > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Start Screen Option > Autorun Smart Hub
1) Enabling Autorun Smart Hub automatically launches the Smart Hub when the TV is turned on. Navigate to this option to enable or disable the feature.
2) If Autorun Last App is set to on, the last used app is automatically run when you turn on the TV. You can turn this function on or off by pressing the Select button in the current menu.
To ensure your unit's performance is fully optimized, please do verify you've got the latest firmware version installed. You can check this by going to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.
You may also want to further optimize performance with the self-diagnostic tool, which checks memory, frees up unused cached memory, and closes background apps. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Device Care > Start Device Care
If you're having issues with Auto Focus or Keystone Correction, please know you can manually adjust each function. Just press and hold the remote's Home button to prompt the on-screen menu.
You may also want to check the following, which may further improve Auto Focus and Keystone Correction:
1. Make sure you've removed the film covering the lens.
2. Position the device with the “Samsung” logo on the bottom of the unit.
If the image is too dim, try adjusting Picture Mode, Contrast, Brightness, or Sharpness settings.
Go to Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode
...and select the mode that best fits your usage:
Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments
Movie: Is suitable for watching Projector or movies in a dark room.
You can also manually fine tune your image under Expert Settings. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings
I hope these tips help you enjoy your new product.

Perfect purchase
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We love it! We point it at our ceiling and watch movies in bed every night. We’ve also used it in daytime, it’s tolerable when the room is brighter but incredible in the dark. Purchased one month ago and no complaints at all. The auto focus and keystone correction make it fast and easy to change where we project it. Start up is fast, machine doesn’t make too much noise, it’s compact and really easy to use.

Excellent picture quality!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really loved the picture quality of the projector. It automatically refocused when I would change its location such as in the bedroom versus using a projector screen. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because it can not be used outside in broad daylight. So daytime football games are not an option. Overall it is easy to use, setup and the speaker quality is amazing!

Great for easy-going watching
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading done negative reviews, I started to get nervous. But as soon as I turned it on I felt relief. This thing is super cool. Although I own two high end Samsung QLEDs which have unparalleled picture...I still am happy with this HD projector. The photos taken of it aren't actually as cool as it is in person. It's vivid and crisper than I was expecting. What truly surprised me was the sound. It's on par with the picture quality. If you want a projector that you can move around the house, inside and out, throw on ceilings or walls or to have a fun family movie night, this is for you. It's good enough that you won't be bothered that it's not your Magnolia level TV. However, if you want an every day use, to notch projector, go for the short throw 4k from Samsung. Now the little negatives. The thing seems too heavy as it does droop when tilted to anything close to perpendicular. I have to prop it up sometimes. That's my biggest issue. Now the menu is slow but only in the settings mostly but it's not a deal breaker. The auto keystone truly doesn't work. It tries but fails every single time. However if you tune it manually, then you're all set until you movythe projector again. These last two issues should be resolved by a firmware update so fingers crossed. The main drawback here is the drooping if the unit itself, the stand can't hold the weight of the cylinder. All in all I am pleased with the freestyle but I'm already fearing that 2.0 will be better. Meanwhile, it movie time.

Amazing versatile projector...pricey but brilliant
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent in my use case. We use them for movie night in the master bedroom. The kids love it and the immersive quality and bright and sharp pictures.. but this is near black environment. The projector is not designed for high ambient light environment. it will be washed out. But in darkness this projector is briliant. Easu streaming' built in media player and tv is awesome. The autofocus is okay but to tlget the best requires some manual turning. The swivel base is infinitely better than any static projector with riser.

Love it's portability!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm impressed with all that it can do in such a small form factor. It's portability was a real selling point for me since I can basically take it anywhere and project it to just about any wall. Movies and games look great on it and even though the speaker it comes with is just fine, connecting a sound bar takes it to another level.

A GAME CHANGER aka THE FREESTYLE
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR GO, this projector is lightweight easy to learn how to use. The clarity is great it's 1080p the auto keystone auto focus is a gem all you have to do is point and it'll adjust for you, definitely great for family time, or hosting GameDay's. The setup is a snap! I recommend using the remote to setup the device instead of your phone to me it's was very easy, the remote is also a snap to use as well, it's a remote people so relax do over do it, but do I recommend the freestyle heck yeah it's a must like I said for family nights or game night...

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great for what it is, just dont use a micro HDMI cable, use a adapter instead. Its about 500lm ao its not the brightest, but its speaker and crisp visuals make up for it. It pulls 55-60w on average for you baytery bank users out there.

Awesome projector
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hesitant to purchase this projector due to the $799.99 price. Went on sale for $599.99 while i was researching. When I say this product is well worth the price, I feel it was a steal at the sale price that I got it for. What I like most about this projector is that you do not have to mirror what you watch from a phone or computer everything is built it. Seeing that all of my tv's in my home are Samsung I am use to the interface of it. The picture is amazing. I watched on my patio while with a light on and picture was better than previously owned projectors.

Quite the powerhouse
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first time buying a projector, I’ve seen many reviews on the Freestyle. Don’t let that discourage you from purchasing with the cons. This projector has a ton of potential in the home and on trips. One major advantage it has it can mirror what’s on premium Samsung Qled. The color is amazing, smart features are the same as a Samsung Tv, and overall small size makes it easy to travel while placing it doesn’t take much space.

Happy with my purchase
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hesitant at first because of some of the reviews. I took a chance on an open box model just in case I didn't like it. It was actually better than I expected it to be. I was also concerned about how load the speaker where. I fixed that with some computer speaker and a Bluetooth adapter. Honestly there is nothing wrong with the factory speakers but I wanted a little sound for outside.

Posted .KimberlyC,
We appreciate your review of The Freestyle. Watching content for an extended period of time can cause the unit to generate heat, which is released through the vents on the projector. The vents may feel hot to the touch when the projector has been used for an extended period of time. This heat, however, is not a defect and doesn’t affect functionality. When in use, make sure you maintain a distance of at least 4 inches between the projector and other objects (walls, cabinet sides, etc.) to ensure proper ventilation.
Please also keep in mind that with voice recognition always enabled, the projector’s Wi-Fi and microphone modules remain active even when the power is turned off. If you feel heat even when the device is off, turn off AoV (Always on Voice) Mode.
To disable this setting, go to: Menu > Settings > General & Privacy > Voice
- Alexa: Turn off Voice Wake-Up
- Bixby: Under Bixby wake-up options, select “Only use the Bixby button” or “Additionally saying ‘Hi Bixby’”.
If there’s anything we can further help with, please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week. LiveChat with an agent as well as manuals, software, and warranty info can be found at the ‘Support’ link on our Samsung website.
