      Hi MiguelS,

I’m sorry to hear of the confusion you experienced with The Freestyle. While this projector does require a power source, please know you can use a portable battery charger with 50 Watt output/PD (Power Delivery) with DC 20V.

I really wanted to like this projector. I'm a Samsung freak. I was let down. It gets warm so dont just leave it plugged in all the time. The remote seems to be glitchy and sometimes don't work (the power button and volume buttons work all the time) the projector is supposed to auto adjust it does..... partially. This remote also somehow controls my Samsung TV

      Annalhb,

Please ensure your projector's firmware is up to date with version 1210.0 which includes updates to improve remote response and Auto Focus. You can check this by going to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.

Watching content for an extended period of time can cause the unit to generate heat, which is released through the vents on the projector. The vents may feel hot to the touch when the projector has been used for an extended period of time. This heat, however, is not a defect and doesn’t affect functionality. When in use, make sure you maintain a distance of at least 4 inches between the projector and other objects (walls, cabinet sides, etc.) to ensure proper ventilation.

Although the remote can’t be paired to a specific TV as it uses an IR signal, you can take advantage of the remote control function within the SmartThings app. If both your TV and Freestyle have been added to your SmartThings app on your tablet or mobile device, you can use the app to control each device individually.

If you need more help, Samsung is here for you. Please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week. Our LiveChat agents are also available by clicking on the ‘Support’ link on our website.

The unit may overheat or power itself off. It also did a factory reset on its own; I set it up on the first day, then the next day, when powered on, it booted up as though I just bought it. The unit showed the "Hello/Bonjour" screen again and I had to set it up again. I paired the unit to a bluetooth speaker and it worked ok but when I started it up again, it does not automatically use/connect to your bluetooth speaker though it shows it's still paired to it. While trying to add VUDU to the App menu, the App screen would freeze several times; had to power the projector off/on again. While trying to add VUDU app, the projector kept launching the Samsung Plus app which would play in the background while I was trying to set it up. The unit is small and not very bright; the room pretty much has to be dark; wouldn't recommend it be used as a slide show projector for a daytime office meeting unless you could darken the room. The remote control is a little too simple; not much control. You pretty much have to use the Samsung Smart Things app and the remote together; some things work better on the app whereas the physical buttons on the remote are easier to use to navigate the menus. The Smart Things App has an option to power on the projector but, it doesn't work. Another issue with the app is, adding other devices like, a Samsung TV; somewhere, somehow, the app updates the remote to control the tv and when you think you're powering on your projector, your TV comes on behind you instead.... Had to remove the TV as a device from the Smart Things app. So, something that's supposed to be hi-tech and convenient, actually turned out cumbersome. I bought this for the workplace, but I can't imagine giving an employee this unit, which appears simple, and them not having the same issues let alone, working through them without assistance. For me, it's back to a good old projector and audio/video cables hooked to a laptop. I'll return this unit and hope I can get out of paying the 15% return fee on electronics; having read many posts of others having similar issues, I don't think a replacement will fix these issues.

      MCALLIBN,

We appreciate you sharing your review. Please keep in mind that watching content for an extended period of time can cause The Freestyle to generate heat, which is released through the vents on the projector.
With voice recognition enabled at all times, the Wi-Fi and microphone module remain active even when the power is turned off. If you feel heat even when the device is off, turn off AoV (Always on Voice) Mode. Go to: Menu > Settings > General & Privacy > Voice > Bixby Wake-up Options, and select “Only use the Bixby button” or “Additionally saying ‘Hi Bixby’”.

Please know that some settings such as Bluetooth will not be remembered, as these devices are used on demand. When the projector turns off, the Bluetooth device will disconnect, and the projector won’t reconnect automatically unless you choose to pair the device again.

To resolve the App Store issues you're experiencing, please ensure your projector is up to date with the most recent firmware version, as this includes updates to improve performance and app responsiveness. You can check this by going to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.

Although the remote can’t be paired to a specific Samsung product as it uses an IR signal, you can take advantage of the remote control function within the SmartThings app. If both your TV and projector have been added to your SmartThings app on your tablet or mobile device, you can use the app to control each device individually.

If the image is still too dim after updating, try adjusting Picture Mode or Expert Picture Settings.
Go to Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode
...and select the mode that best fits your usage:
      1) Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments.
      2) Movie: Is suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.
      3) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.

You may also want to fine tune your image's brightness, sharpness, contrast and more by going to: Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings

Works really well. Set up was seamless. Works just like a smart TV. Only two small reasons I didn't go 5 starts. The audio on it is useless. It works , but not loud enough to overcome a normal conversation. The price was the other point. I feel I overpaid by $150-200.

Overall great quality of product. Only problem with it is the cord. If it was a cordless projector it would be 5 stars. It was easy setup, easy to use and quality of sound and picture is great. Cord it has is good length making it easy to use in most places just not everywhere.

I conceptually love the projector (portability, simple design, small size etc) but reality has failed to deliver the hoped for experience. I think it's trying to be too clever. From day 1, we have experienced significant setup and playback issues. The firmware (per other reviews) does not work properly: it glitches, stalls out. The remote (fully charged) is unreliable, regardless of distance from the projector. I've had multiple smart TVs from Samsung - I'm not sure why they don't just do something similar. We tried operating via quick set up (not smart, not quick). We've tried screen mirroring via Mac, and it's very difficult to consistently get the sound to come out of our external bluetooth speakers. The drooping that others mention is a problem. The projector gets very hot, and when it does it droops. I'd return this if I could, but after waiting 2 months for delivery the 15 day return window has expired.

      dLee,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with glitching and intermittent sound with Bluetooth devices. Please do ensure your projector's firmware is up to date with version 1095.4 which includes updates to improve both OS and Bluetooth connectivity issues. You can check this by going to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.

If you press any key on the remote and the LED indicator at the top of your remote stays on for about 3 seconds rather than blinking, please try the following steps to reset your remote:
      1) Long press the RETURN key and ENTER key together for about 10 seconds if your remote was once paired already with the projector, you do not need to re-pair it again. However, if it was not paired with the projector, pairing must be done after the reset.
      2) The RETURN key is on the left side of your remote and looks like a curved, backwards pointing arrow.
      3) The ENTER key is the button in the center of your directional ring.

Please give us the opportunity to assist with the cradle issues by calling us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week.

If you are in the samsung eco system with your phone, then this is your projector. It usses the same smart Tizen softwate as their TVs, meaning the phone can cast to it and you can also use SmartThings on your phone to use your phone as the remote. Projector is fairly bright, not the brightest, but the software and amazing portablility make it a must have for outdoor fun and on the go.
