It played older discs and DVDs. Not sure if the player had an internal issue or was an issue of Sony's built-in obsolescence. Got a new Samsung 4K/3D player in case I upgrade my TV in the future and so far it is recognizing all the discs I have tried with it. I have held back on 5 stars because I'm not sure yet of the unit's reliability and I have yet to use all of the features.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.If you are relying on the tv speakers or a sound bar/ cheap, in- the-box surround system...this is a great dvd player....if you have high end stuff, NOT the tv speakers or a sound bar....this is NOT the right dvd player...there are better dvd players...but you will pay more...the sound is the major diffrence between this 4k player and ones that cost 800+...and worth the investment...
