    I was disappointed in this product. I thought I could play my regular Blu Ray movies and it would be upscale to 4K but it didn't recognize my movies so I returned it. It's the first to market so maybe I'll get the next one.

    We purchased 11/25/2016 and it died 1/03/2017. Samsung products have not been much. We bought this because we wanted a true 4K unit and there were only a couple out.

    Samsung - UBD-K8500 4K

    I purchased a LG 65" 4k about a month ago from Best Buy to replace a 5 year old 1080 Panasonic , The picture was a great improvement of course. Then added a Sony 4k upscale Blu-ray player , which enhanced the picture even more, and finished it off with a high end HDMI cable that also improved picture quality . I don't have Netflix, vudo, etc. and use what I have just for watching movies. #which is a lot# so picture quality is a must. The upscaling is about equal to the Sony. I have a few " Mastered in 4k" movies , that are a definite improvement over the Sony, and hope that "true" 4k's will be even better. So here's my gripe . A few of my older blu-rays #less then a year# do not play. I thought it might be the disc , so bought a new movie and the same thing. Just goes in a closed loop so to speak and wont bring up the discs main menu. Movie format? Player problem ? Will contact Samsung and see if there is a solution. The second "minus star" like everyone is complaining about is the remote. It is aggravating to say the least. If you are going from a standard Blu-ray to a Samsung you are going to be happy you spent the money. It is a big jump forward

    As just a standard Blu Ray player this thing is very good!!! This player is lightning fast with excellent up scaling, the apps load quickly as well ( Netflix 4k, Amazon 4k, Plex, Vudu- not 4k yet). I have an Oppo 103, and this player is actually on par with that unit on upscaling Blu Ray. Now to get the full advantage of the 8500k, you need a newer 4K tv with HDMI 2.0 with HDR. You also, need a good 18gbs ( fast ) HDMI cable, something that can handle 4k @ 60. Otherwise, you might have problems, and I'm going off various comments & my experience of fellow users of this player. Everything in your HDMI chain must be up to date ( TV, Blu Ray, Receiver or Sound bar ), or you will have issues. This player has two HDMI port ( 1 for video, and 1 for sound ), and the most full proof hook up is direct to the TV for video. I have a Marantz 7010 receiver, which is one of the most up to date receivers out there, and I get the occasional handshake issues ( will wait for a firmware update ).

    Great blu ray player

    I love this player the upscaling in great considering there are no 4k movies release yet. My only complaint would be the remote is way to small. I find myself touching buttons I didn't want to touch. Other than lack of physical media and small remote it definitely money well spent.

    Was very excited to get home and watch a 4k bluray movie. After connecting every thing I had trouble getting the movie to play, I would get sound and no picture. I had to reset it to play the movie. I tried multiple movies some were ok some I had trouble with. I was using audio quest cables and tried switching them so I knew that was not the problem. once I had the movie playing I was disappointed in the picture and sound. Netflix 4k picture looked better. I returned it and waited for the Oppo 4k bluray player (I will do a review on that later).

    Bought this to replace the LG 4K that I purchased that locked up on me day one. The Samsung on most movies if paused for more than 30 seconds or so will lose audio sync, the drive vibrates my wall when it spins up and I look to see if I'm on the airport approach way. While using any of the internet apps the sound and picture will start freezing then move a frame or two, then do it again and again. The unit is locked up and the front panel/remote will not work so I have to climb under my entertainment center to unplug it. Read other reviews about how Samsung in their infinite wisdom handles apps - don't buy this unit, my Sony is being delivered Friday!

    I tried out this 4k player on my 4k sony tv and found it wasn't all that ,I felt the picture quality was like looking through a screen door ,It could have been the player was bad ,but I choose not to try again ,so I returned it ..

    I have always bought Samsung products and I have always sworn by them to be excellent products. But I'm very disappointed as of late with their quality control. First my note 7 was recalled, and the recall got recalled.... but my note 7 is fine with no issues what so ever. Now I buy a 4K blu ray DVD player and it doesn't work at all.... I bought a fantastic Samsung SUHD 65 inch tv and the picture was amazing, so I bought the 4K DVD player to compliment it and it didn't work! Samsung what's going on? Your about to lose a loyal customer!

    First UHD player

    I was not sure I will buy this or not, wanted a oppo UHD player but no indication from Oppo doing it any time soon. So I got this one for the time being, Setting up player is easy, make sure you have high speed hdmi cable, I am using monoprice ultra slim cable one hdmi to one connect box to my Samsung js9000 tv and audio hdmi to pioneer AC-85 Avr. Audio bitstream to Avr, there are deep color setting in tv and bluray player to turn on most of these setting on tv and player I set to auto as both are Samsung brand it will be optimized by player, picked some movies, agent 47, fantastic 4, last witch hunter, they look good. HDR makes huge difference, this player upscale bluray very good also, if one has Samsung tv it upscale a too, I don't see much difference there. Player looks cheap for price with no display at all. Not sure how long the disc format last but is good to have discs if price for digital is not coming down. The price will be down to $200 within a year I think, early adopters will pay max as we always do. Movie prices are not super high but are same as some new Bluray releases, it will be around 20 if format sells well.

    While this player does have the ability to stream 4k content, I would not call it a 4K player. It is not able to read 4K discs, so this is really just a fancy Blu-ray player.

    The HDR video picture not great ... I've got a Sony 2016 HDR tv and was expecting so much more...there is no way to zoom picture in full screen if desired it's locked out so there's a black bar on top and bottom...

    I purchased one unit and returned it because it kept flashing and giving me no other signs that it was working. I had to eventually return this unit, but opted for a replacement of the same model. The second unit did work and the movie displayed on the screen, but the BluRay player was so loud that I could not stand it. When I say loud, I mean to the point of being unbearable. Opted for the XBOX One S as my 4K blurry player instead of 30 dollars more.
