    Not happy with Black Bars

No problems with playing UHD Blu Ray Discs, nice picture on my 4k tv. However, Every movie weather it be UHD Blu Ray or regular Blu ray, shows on my 50" TV with black border Bars on top and bottom, and there is NO WAY in picture settings to change this. That means I lose 1/4 of my 50" tv screen when watching movies and I HATE that! Reminds me of the old days of a square picture tube tv and watching the format of VHS or DVD movies with Bars top and bottom. I thought those days were over, but Samsung seems to have incorporated that in it's software on this 4k player. Blu ray movies I used to watch on my Panasonic player before I bought this player showed full screen on the same TV I have, now those same movies along with new UHD movies have Black bars. I hope Samsung changes this with a software update if enough people will complain, or I will be checking into other brands of UHD Blu Ray players, and ditching this annoying player.

    FAILED MY EXPECTATIONS

I'm a current OPPO user and before that Denon for DVD players. Two ultra high-end brands. Having said that, I decided on giving this Samsung UHD player a chance. My initial discontent was the remote. Sub-par in design and size and the insertion of a special hearing-aid type of battery was frustrating as when I need to replace the battery, I'll have to search one out for purchase and getting into the battery compartment was also a pain requiring a tool to open it. I also dislike the ultra small design for buttons, etc. Major hands-down for the remote. Menus were weak. Set-up was fair at best. The decks DVD tray drawer was cheap in sound and quality. Not the great flow of high-end decks with their quiet and precision motors. The player is light compared to Pioneer, Denon and Oppo players and it's overall build quality is average at best. At $369 to $399, it's grossly overpriced. I tried several Blu-Ray discs to see if I could get any upscaling or improvement in quality but my Oppo 103 Darbee did a far superior job in visuals. Not sure why Samsung is the only option for UHD players at this point. If it comes down in price, it will be far more attractive than it is now at it's excessive price for a Samsung.

So I went and bought this k8500 4k samsung player when it first came out. Spending over $400 for it. Being I'm a movie Guy and love watching my movies on vudu or just purchasing 4k bluerays. I was very unhappy to find out from vudu that this blueray player doesn't support 4k video from vudu. However it does play 4k on YouTube and the very limited content on netflix. I have the 65 samsung uhd-4k-3d TV. Picture is great on most 4k bluerays. 3d plays beautiful the sound is good. My opinion it should be calibrated so that you can get the best picture out of it. The meterial it was made from was pretty cheap and looks and feels fragile.Other then that I'm pretty happy with it until the next thing comes out.

    Nice 4K Player

I purchased the Sony XBR-65X850D 4K TV so it only made since to purchase an Ultra HD player. There aren't many options in regards to 4K players, and of the limited selection I chose the Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Smart Blu-ray Player in order to watch 4K movies. There isn't a lot of movies in 4K at the moment, but it does a great job of up scaling non 4K movies. Being able to stream from Netflix and Amazon is a plus because it allows me to receive my sound through my external speakers versus my TV speakers. Boom!

I purchased this Samsung player along with a new Samsung 60 inch television. I needed an upgrade anyway for 4K and the last Blu Ray player I purchased was 10 years ago. This unit is much faster loading movies than my prior Sony unit. The picture quality is decent although I am still learning all its capabilities. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the remote control. Having the arrow keys recessed next to the center button is problematic. Seeing the retail price on this unit, the remote should have been a better engineered higher quality unit. A $199 price is not extravagant and overall I am pleased with the performance.

So I was really excited to get the new UHD player from Samsung, that was until it arrived. To start things off the user interface is slow and non responsive the majority of the time. It works about as good as a smart tv that would be purchased in 2012. I say this because it operates much like my 2012 Samsung TV does. Now lets talk about what I really bought the player for UHD disk. The player looks great when playing UHD disk on my 4K TV with HDR, however after watching the Martian UHD disk I decided to try the regular Blu-Ray disk that came with it and see what the difference would look like between the two. This is when it gets disappointing the Blu-Ray and the UHD disk play almost identical and let me tell you I used two different players watching the two side by side. Sure the UHD disk may have a slight color enhancement but it is so slight most people will not even be able to tell the difference. Do not be fooled by the hype! None of the disk that are out are in true 4K ,after researching and talking with different companies they admitted to me that the disk are actually in 2k ! Needless to say this is not worth $400 to me so I packed it up and sent it back. I urge anyone that has bought this item to really compare the UHD disk to the standard disk. You will see that it is barely any difference and certainly not worth $400. I suggest that you wait for the price to drop on this to like $150 and then make the purchase. I really had high hopes of getting true 4k content but it looks like I will have to wait. Do your research and wait on this item. You will thank me later.

I have only had this for about a week so I hope that this review doesn't change. I LOVE this 4K player. The picture is stunning. I bought the 4K version of Batman Vs. Superman and oh. my. goodness. There is one scene that the picture was so beautiful it made my jaw drop. The only thing that I'm not too keen on is the remote. It takes a special kind of battery and is very small.

This is a great bluray player. The picture quality is great. The only reason for not giving it a 5 is the remote. I don't know why Samsung put such a cheap remote in with this player. I use one of my other Samsung remotes instead of the remote that came with the player.

This player is unreal when it comes to it's level of black. There's so much more detail and more color depth when I watched a 4K movie in this player. I love it and I'm so glad I purchased it!!

The remote is in poor design for the money spent it should have been more user friendly. I have the Samsung UHD 9000 series and the HDMI hook up is not correct in the UBD-K8500 it says the cable should be put in the HDMI in (MHL) port , it does not work in that port. I had to put it in the HDMI 4 port to use the 4 k Player. Picture quality great .

This is a great 4K BluRay Player. Works well and the picture quality is excellent. It upscales DVD and Bluray movies to full 4k. It is HDR compatible as well. Like the documentation and ease of setup. Plus it has an audio only hdmi out which can come handy if you only want sound to your receiver and direct connect to your TV.

I upgraded from a Samsung BD-J5700 ($60 machine) to the UBD-K8500 after I installed a software upgrade on the cheaper machine and suddenly my streaming kept disconnecting from the web (hmmm?) Since I have a Samsung TV I wanted to keep compatiblity issues to a minimum and bought another Samsung. Pros - it streams netflix & Amazon TV very fast. No hiccups. Nice picture quality. Cons: the picture quality is not that much better (can't really see a difference myself) and the remote is so small It was nearly useless to me. Fortunately my remote from the BD-J5700 machine works fine so I'm using it. Is UBD-K8500 worth 4 times the price of the BD-J5700? Not in my opinion. Maybe look for something mid-range price wise to get better streaming experience. Also the UBD-K8500 can't play R- discs that some of my older discs used as a format. So check your library before you buy this model.

Bought during holidays at half original price. Have a Sony 55" 3D 4k TV but unfortunately with no HDR built-in and can't upgrade with software update, but I found by turning on the "deep color" tab in the players settings it enhances the 4k HDR movies to maybe 60-70% I believe what a TV with HDR has to offer. I switched back and forth with the tab on or off and saw a noticeable improvement in the picture giving it a more lifelike image with a greater and deeper color pallet and also with an overall brighter picture. Maybe not HDR quality but probably as close as your get with a non-HDR 4k TV like mine without a professional calibration. The 3D is as good as it gets. It's a format that has lost it's popularity but still worth a look especially on a Sony. Plays Blu-rays and regular DVDs as good as or better than other players I've owned before. It was recently named "Product of the Year" by a popular Audio/Video consumer magazine too being first of it's kind for the future of movies and TV's.

The upscaling of blu-rays is so good, you can save money and not buy 4K movies. I replaced a Samsung BD-J7500 and the audio and upscaling is so much better. The remote is really small but was able to use the BD-J7500 remote. Setup was easy and have had no problems as of yet.

The player itself is just like an ordinary smart Blu Ray player. The picture on "New Releases" are where you are going to get the good picture. The "Revanant" has a great picture for example. Don't waste your money on past titles the are enhanced in 4K because the don't look that great. Meaning 4K quality. My advise to you is to wait. 4K Blu Ray movies are really not be released that quickly. To pay $400 for the player to just sit under your tv, I'd wait for the price to drop and in the meantime more titles will be available to watch!

I've been waiting so long for this! I dropped far too much money getting my TV up to snuff and then buying this player, but it was all worth it in the end. Differences between 4K Blu Ray and HD might not be obvious at first, but I promise once you get used to the 4K image, watching TV at other people's homes just isn't as good. I absolutely LOVE this new medium and will be buying any movies I can in 4K from here on out!
