Sure the selection of 4K discs isn't great yet. But what this machine does for all other discs is amazing, if you have the right tv and a 4K/hi speed hdmi cable the results will blow you away. Does have minor bugs to be worked out through updates. But nothing major.

We recently purchased a 78" Samsung curved Smart 4K Ultra HD TV. We had an old DVD player but now wanted to be able to watch 3D Blu-ray. We figured the Samsung TV was so great, we purchased this Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Player. It's everything we expected. The 3D is amazing. Easy to hook up and install. I would recommend purchasing high quality HDMI cables. They do make a difference.

I've had this player for about a month and I'm thrilled with it. I have it paired with a Samsung Ks8000 4k TV. Everything looks amazing on this player. 4k movies, blu ray, even dvds. Actually regular dvds look great. I was surprised at how good they look. It's at least comparable to blu ray quality. I use the apps like Hulu and Amazon on the player as well. Also, I have confirmed, this player upscales better than the ps4 blu ray player. I tested a blu ray disc on the ps4 and on the K8500, and I could see the difference in quality. If you're really into blu rays and 4k movies, you need this player. I stress the blu ray upscaling because there aren't a lot of 4k movies available and a lot of your movie watching will be dvds or blu rays. Yes, there are supposedly better 4k players out there. But paying 500-700$ is not an option for me. You won't be disappointed with this.

Beautiful picture the player itself is kinda clucky and the remote so small. Okay for a first time 4k player but you can afford an better player do so, the Panasonic 4k player is excellent and the Oppo 4k player is supreme both are more expensive!!!

Has anyone seen the 4k content on Amazon Prime? It is unbelievable. You seriously see the difference in 4K video. Everything looks sharper, colors bounce right out, it almost looks like your peering into another dimension or that you are right in the movie. That being said, I do not get that with this player or the 4k movies I have so far (Mad Max, X-Men, Deadpool). All I see so far is Blu-Ray 1080 quality posing as 4K. I think they need to go back to the drawing board on this. I do however seen a quality improvement with the 4K on Amazon and Netflix while using this player as opposed to my TV's processor. But....that isn't why any of us bought this is it? Nuff said.

Got my new upgrade last night and loved it. The picture quality is great. Big big differance in 1080 and 4k and the sound was even better (louder and clearer) thru my surround. Had to turn it down from where we normally listen to it. It is a must have.

Nice Player but has some limitations

I've only had this player for several days and and so far I like it. It has plenty of apps and works well. There are a few things that prospective buyers should be aware of:
1) The picture for DVD's and blue-ray discs is no better than my 4r old Panasonic blue-ray player.
2) The 4K upscaling feature is redundant and unnecessary if you have a 4k TV since most 4K TV's have an upscaling engine already.
3) If you turn the player off or it powers down for energy savings then it will lose your place on the disc and you need to start over. Very inconvenient.
4) The buttons on the small remote are close together and it's easy to press the wrong one.
Hopefully, Samsung will fix this shortcomings on the second generation player. I haven't had a chance to play a 4K disc yet since I can't find a move in 4K that I wish to see.

So far so good, as well, I'm usually a Sony, Samsung, LG buyer. The packaging the player comes in is like a high end super dressed up box, pretty neat. It's carefully protected with removable plastic coverings on remote and player. The box alone was obviously designed to impress. The player is larger and light, and nice looking. It updates well and plays well. The Blu Ray upscale is sheer amazing! The 4K HDR UHD is great too! I think it still needs some tweaking firmware wise but it's getting there. I have noticed only on the highest end discs there is occasional disturbances requiring restarts of the player or set. I believe this to be software discrepancies normal to latest gen product not fully bug free, but with future updates I expect it to vanish completely. It isn't regular, rarely at most and fixable on reset. I have seen no issues with the Blu Rays, which was actually my larger concern with over hundreds in my collection. I paired it with the LG 55 UH7700 and it's a great pairing. As long as the longevity is there, I'll be satisfied.

An Essential Upgrade

I upgraded to this new 4k player from the OPPO BDP-103D Universal 3D Blu-ray Player (Darbee Edition) because the OPPO simply can't play 4k files. This machine can play both MP4 and MKV files at 3820 x 2160 without a problem. Furthermore, this machine is much faster than the OPPO in terms of disc loading and menu navigation. I purposefully tried to get the player to jam by navigating through burned files as fast as I could without one glitch. The OPPO is sold and this player serves as my main unit now until a better machine is created. I am more than happy with this purchase.

If you want to play UHD BDs, this is the first and, as of May 2016, only player available. It makes a lot of noise from its fan and just spinning the disc. With the latest available firmware, I've had it hang during movie playback. Its Netflix app lets you stream UHD movies with audio better than DD, something that apps built-in to smart TVs + ARC to your receiver cannot do (HDMI ARC limitation). The Amazon app keyboard does not include a backquote ` key, so good luck logging in if that is in your password. The Vudu app can't properly enter less than, greater than, or ampersand characters, so good luck logging in if any of those are in your password. Going to Samsung's webpage to email support and report these issues, they don't even let you select the UBD-K8500 as a model number, so good luck getting anything useful from Samsung. With 2 HDMI outputs, one for video with HDMI 2.0 + HDCP 2.2 and another for audio, you can still use your old AVR with your new UHD TV and this player. Sometimes when trying to play a UHD BD, you'll get either a black screen or no video signal, but usually it works. Horrible design for a remote. This definitely feels like a rushed product that hasn't been thoroughly tested and debugged.

Samsung - Ubd-k8500 4k Ultra Hd

The Samsung was not my 1st choice. I had the Philips Blu-ray 4K but had audio dropout issues. Took it back to the Geeks and could not resolve the problem. I question the Geeks or sales personal on their knowledge of combinations 4K players, receivers and 4K TV's in a Home Theater setting. I would say they let me done in this way.
The setup for the Samsung was no problem.
The picture on 4K Blu-ray was awesome! Actually better than the Philips unit.
Sound - Incredible!!!!!
The only con would be audio delay on streaming. It doesn't happen every time but it does here and there.
On the whole I would suggest the Samsung 4K unit.

So since as of now this is the only 4k bluray player i did not have a choice but it is good quality and it is mostly fast but the one big problem is that the player only has one HDR standard. It does not have the ability to play movies in dolby vison. I know that more players will come out that can and i will replace this one when that happens but overall a good player.

Geat Machine Even If You Don't Have A 4K Screen

I got this machine to be ahead of the curve even though I don't own a 4K TV yet and I have to say that the Blu-Ray's and Netflix picture quality is superior to that of other Blu-Ray players even on a normal 1080p screen. If you are in the market for a top of the line machine this machine is it.

For me, if you have a 4K TV and you want to get the most out of it, you need something that will feed it 4K, this device does that for you. Play 4K Blu ray and streams 4K from Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon. Also, it up converts regular HD to 4K. I have a Sony 65 XBR 900a and picture looks great.

The Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Player is a well integrated addition to the Samsung family although the new Panasonic DMP-UB900 UHD player coming out will outperform the Samsung (at least by specifications and current reviews overseas). On the upside the Samsung also costs less than the Panasonic.

First and foremost, we're here to review this machine as a 4k disc player. not as an app device. and it is a good player. and well one of very few available. It is a bit sturdier than most bluray players, but still a bit cheap and cheesy. Nonetheless it performs well. I seem to be among the few that buy a machine for what it is and does what intended. A tv as a tv, not a tablet or computer. My camera is a camera, not a video recorder..etc etc. and this is a 4k player, though one I will most likely replace now that Sony's player is out.

I have a Samsung 65JS8500 - a Denon Dolby Atmos/DTS-X 2200 and this Blu-ray Player. All equipment that should make this player look fantastic. However, that is not the case. Regular BR look amazing on this player. When I put in The Last Witch Hunter in UHD 4K - it looks horrible! The picture is very grainy and seems to get lighter and darker as the disc plays. I know I have all the settings set-up right. I can see it is playing 3840x2160 and I can also see the UHD box showing in the corner of the TV - so I know it is outputting all the right settings. Also - I ordered 6 new hi-speed HDMI cables from Amazon that I am using- so that cannot be the problem ether. To say I am disappointed after spending $399.00 is an understatement! I'm still wondering if I'm doing something wrong?? The apps seem to look really great on You Tube and Netflix. I'm thinking of returning this to BB and getting a refund. If anyone has a suggestion as to how to make this player look better - by all means-I would love hear your input. Thanks for any suggestions you have! ! TR
