This is a great product. It loads fast, has lots of apps if you don't already have them on your TV. The picture for 4K blue rays is amazing. The upconvert is great also. Easy to install and easy operate. Just an all around great product. I'm very happy with it.

    Excellent player, but no cable

Seriously, how can you not include a HDMI cable? I guess at least it has a power cord (unlike the New 3DS). Other than that though, the only gripe is the remote doesn't have ff/rw, just chapter skips. That seems like a rather large oversight. Due to this, the TV remote is actually more useful to control the player than the player remote. That's never good. Not to mention that it uses some over-sized button battery instead of AAAs. Complaining aside, though, it's an excellent player to be the first of it's kind. Well worth the money. It makes me REALLY regret not getting a HDR television.

Well, this is the only 4K UHD Blu-Ray out there, so it's not like there are a lot of choices. Solid piece, very sturdy, but must confess I do not like the curved design, as it takes up more space than what it should. The remote, as many people have pointed out, is small. In terms of the picture quality, 4K discs just take watching a movie at home to a higher level. I own a Sony 930D and the colours are amazing. The feeling is amazingly immersive, and I think this is the only way to make the 4K TVs show their true quality: with no compromise in quality from streaming, this is as pure as it gets. One thing the Samsumg engineers were really clever about was the dual HDMI connectors: since a lot of A/V receivers out there do not have HDR pass through yet, you can connect the video directly to the TV and the audio to the A/V receiver, thus having the best of both worlds. If you're really into 4K, owning this player is a must

I recently got this for a HiSense 55" we got when on sale(just under $800 for both). Seems to be a perfect match. We also have the Phillips 4k player for another TV and honestly they're both pretty close to each other in terms of overall quality but there are some note-able differences. Pros: Nice menus price. Good Picture. Has more color options than the Phillips which allowed HDR to work on our HiSense. Nice selection of apps. Faster loading than Phillips but a little noisier too. Cons: No cable. No bonus movie. The remote is odd, it uses a button battery, and even the cover is a small challenge to put back on. On screen display only provides limited info(but I was able to see HDR enabled). I let mine update its firmware immediately during setup(1.0>1.8). I haven't noticed any problems as some have suggested. Ultimately I believe both players are almost equal and really depends on what you want. I'm using the Phillips w/ a 55" LG pre-HDR 4k TV that has the funky HDMI ports(one w/ 2.2HDCP and the other w/ 10bit). I had to do some tinkering and get an adapter with that one to use the 10bit port. Whereas some have stated issues with the HDR on the HiSense but the Samsung made it pretty close to painless(I used the RGB expanded color scheme but it also showed 4:4:4).

A very very nice 4K player. Very high quality. The remote is small only issue. The machine itself works like a dream. I love the brushed metal curved look. No digital dash but you can tell they put that $$$ inside the machine.

Upscales non-4K sources very well. Only complaint is that the player is somewhat large as compared to the size of today's blu ray players.

High Tech Machine but Lousy Remote

I got the unit because I wanted a Blue Ray capable of 4K and upscaling to 4K. It was on sale on Black Friday for 1/2 price, and it is a Samsung, so it was a no brainer. I didn't research it like I normally would because I bought on the spur of the moment. The problem is the remote: it is tiny and not ergonomic. The up/down and right/left toggle buttons are oddly shaped, and it is hard to tell whether you are pressing them or not. You should be able to do this by touch, but because the buttons are oddly shaped and small, you have to look at it which is a pain if you are looking at your TV screen while toggling through the alphabet for the on screen keyboard. There seems to be braille type dots on the buttons, but that is not where you press. The braille dots are closer to the center than where you actually have to press. I hit yes to recommend because it is a state of the art machine and the price couldn't be beat on the Black Friday sale.

Finally a blu-ray player that is native 4K and not just an "up convert" unit. Player loads and runs super fast, no more waiting and waiting for the unit to power up and for the blu-Ray to load. Looks nice in a rack unit, on top of your a/v cabinet, or inside of it, whether or not you have a curved tv. Buy this unit and have piece of mind for years that it will fit all your regular and 4K needs.

Couldn't be more happier with my purchase. Netflix and Amazon Ultra hd content looks incredible. You could most certainly see the difference between 4K and 1080p. I can only imagine how good the Ultra hd blu Rays will look playing on this with my 65" Samsung 4K. For the first true 4K ultra hd player released it exceeded my expectations.

The player is expensive. But everything thats a new technology usually is. We will probably see prices cut in half before the end of this year as other manufacturers come out with their players. The color quality is pretty good on non 4k TVs. It loads movies pretty quick. Works with my logitech remote. I'm happy with the purchase as I needed to buy a new blu-ray player to replaced my old one that had issues.

OK, I'm an early adopter. As such, I'm used to buying the first generation of devices and being very disappointed. Sometimes things don't work right, other times they don't work at all. It goes with the territory. So naturally, when my UBD-8500 arrived, that's what I expected. It turns out, I was pleasently surprised. == Appearance == When I first saw this player my thought was "My God it's ugly! Who on Earth would want a curved player? I sure hope who ever made that decision was fired." When I actually got the player myself I realized the curve wasn't as bad as I was thinking. It's a very slight curve. I still wish Samsung hadn't made the stupid decision to do that, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I know another thing people were concerned with was that the player's plastic case would show fingerprints and scuff marks. Yes, it does, but how often do you actually touch your Blu-ray player? Mine sits with my other AV equipment and the only touching is on the buttons and pushing in the tray. So for me, this was no big deal. One thing I don't like regarding the appearance/design is the location of the USB port. There is a single port, right on the front. I wanted to permanently install a USB flash drive as a BD-Live storage location. I bought the smallest flash drive I could find. Unfortunately, it was still to big to be able to close the USB port's cover over it. So rather than having this plastic cover hanging there, I cut it off. I really wish there was a USB port on the back too. While a front USB is great when you want to quickly plug in a drive to bring up some family photos or something, it's not ideal when you want something permanently attached as storage. Finally, the biggest appearance detriment for me was that there is no front LCD display. I like being able to glance at the player and seeing how much time is left. Sure, it's on the on screen display but that doesn't meet my needs. Why? Well generally when I want to glance at the time remaining it's when I'm watching some movie my wife wanted to watch that I hate and I want to casually glance to see how much more time I have to sit through it; I don't want to outwardly press a button to look at how much awfulness remains! == Accessories == Other than the player the only things you'll get are a manual, a power cord, and a remote and battery. Let's focus on the remote for a minute. It is probably the worst remote I've ever used. It is very small, in fact so small it uses a button cell battery (included) for power. It feels incredibly cheap and needs to be pointed directly at my player to work. Fortunately for me, this is no big deal as I use a Harmony remote which already has codes available for the UBD-K8500. == Connecting == For full disclosure, I have an HDCP 2.2 compatible AVR and TV and HDMI 2.0a compatible AVR and TV. I experienced no handshake issues and everything worked perfectly as soon as I hooked it up. If you have a 1080p TV it will downscale a UHD BD (at least the ones I have, I can't guarantee all of them as this is a decision each studio gets to make) so it is viewable. However, from what I've read, if you have a non-HDCP 2.2 TV you're out of luck on some discs. That being said, if you have an HDCP 2.2 capable TV but not an AVR, the player has dual HDMI output so you can run your audio through the AVR and the video directly to the TV. A nice touch during this time of constantly changing standards. == Movies == Now for the most important part, the movie quality! The image is truly stunning. The picture is incredibly crisp and the colors on an HDR display are out of this world. Blu-rays to me set the standard for high quality HD. I can definitely say that UHD Blu-ray discs have exceeded that standard. On top of that, my regular Blu-ray's look fantastic too. The player does a great job of upscaling a 1080p disc to 2160p. Even 480p DVDs look pretty nice. While the library of UHD BDs is very small right now (I only own 4), They look phenomenal and I'm very thrilled with the picture quality I'm getting. It absolutely beats what you see from 4K streaming services. == Conclusion == Anyone buying this player is an early adopter. That means you've all had the same kinds of experiences I have in the past. With this player I think you'll be very happy. There are always going to be some minor software issues that will require firmware updates to correct (a few issues already seem fixed in the 1003 firmware that came out last week), but overall it works great and provides an amazing movie viewing experience. If I could redesign the look of the player I would, but I bought the player to watch movies, not to be a piece of art. As far as movie viewing goes, this provides the best in-home movie experience I have ever had!

I've been waiting to buy a 4K player because I was waiting for the Sony; however, they're late to the party, and I've been reading good things about the Samsung. So I decided to jump in. The price was good, the product is great. I've had a 4K TV for a while, but the just made things much better. The picture is so crisp, the play starts up fast, and everything syncs up well even though the TV is a Sony Android TV. My only grip is the remote could stand to be better (it's very small, basic, and not back lit), and VUDU 4k isn't available yet. But those are minor. VERY happy with the whole set up!

I purchased this 4K Blue-Ray player at the same time I purchased my 4K 65in TV and I couldn't be happier with it. The beautiful sleek designed is elegant but what's under the hood is truly amazing. This baby delivers Ultra High Definition resolution with exceptional quality making the picture seem to pop off the screen. Not only is your 4K content true to life sharp but it will upscale all your Blue-rays to near UHD resolution giving you crystal clear images on your whole library of movies. At 64 times higher color expressions it surpasses the digital cinema standard. The Samsung UBD-K8500 also has HDR making your bright scenes brighter and your dark scenes shaper. And it's 3D playback will put the movie scene right into your living room. This is on the high end with an almost $400 price tag but it truly is worth the money. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is seriously looking to upgrade to the next level.

For the money, this is worth it. Plays 4k UHD movies, and atmos sound (through using bitstream) and is the cheapest 4k player out there. Annoyances are it can be pretty loud when playing 4k movies, at some points in movies it must spin the disk quicker because it really gets loud. Otherwise, it plays everything else perfect, 3D blu-ray and blu-ray and DVD and CD. Then the remote is an absolute DISASTER!! the fast forward and rewind buttons are the same as the next and back buttons. You have to hold them down and keep holding to fast forward, so most often it always skips ahead if your not pressing it very firm. Please fix the remote, and have atmos through PCM and not bitstream would be a 5star. I think they are coming out with another model later this year that fixes these problems. But if you don;t want to wait, this is cheap, and does a great job. Picture looks perfect.
