I received this new Samsung 4K Blu-ray player model # UBD-M9700 to evaluate. After several months I rant it thru some tests and here is what I got. Now I am a Samsung Fan BUT I have owned LG products such as TV's DVD and Cell Phones. I LOVE my LG PF50KA 1080P Smart Projector and my V30 which fell in 12 ft of water and was perfect after 10 hours under water, but never had luck with LG's DVD Players. So I compared this new Samsung UBD-M9700 to a regular Samsung BD-J5700/ZA Streaming WiFi built in Blu-ray player, a great fantastic mini player as well as a 5 year old Samsung 1080 Upscale to 4k model # BD-F7500. I had them all hooked up to a Samsung QLED Q6 49” SUHD Smart TV. First thing you will notice is the Remote. Samsung is now using its new remote and software where less is more. Basically the Blu-Ray’s remote has about a 18 buttons plus a round push button similar to the new remotes on new Samsung TV’s. By the way, the TV remote has even less buttons! It takes a bit of getting used to it but once you do, it actually works very well! Kind of like Windows, where you open one window, slide to another and via a few clicks you’re done. There are no number buttons for channels! The DVD player has HDMI in, HDMI Out, Audio HDMI out and Digital Optical out for Headphones. Now the test TV, Q6 49” SUHD LED is just great. It has Samsung’s HDR + Feature. In order to get the most out of this DVD player, which is equipped with HDR, the TV must support HDR. Just because the TV is a 4k, it does NOT necessarily mean it supports HDR! The picture is nothing less than spectacular, it’s one of the smartest TV’s I’ve ever owned. Seriously, on set up, if there is a Samsung Cell phone nearby, it will message it, ask if it’s yours and if you want to run set up via your cell! The APPS are lightening quick, Streams YouTube videos off my cell’s Wi-Fi hot stop at 600KB a second which isn’t the fastest but does well. If you close an app like YouTube off by mistake, when you open it, it will pick up where it left off! It’s a great TV with only 1 issue, a sound issue when hooked up to Cable analog signal TV. It’s definitely a Samsung issue but that’s for another review as this review is for the Blu-Ray player! The Set up on this new Samsung Blu-Ray player is similar to the New Samsung SUHD TV’s. It’s extremely easy and smart. The first thing you will notice is its clarity and high definition in 4K. Everything is in 4k when it’s hooked up to a 4K TV, even the menu! Next you will notice the setup, easy fast and extremely smart, it’s scary! The on screen software is pretty much identical to what Samsung has on its new TV’s and remote identical except it has a few more buttons for DVD control, understandably. When hooking up to a Samsung product, life’s easy! The Apps are easy to pull up and work flawlessly, smooth and just slightly different in the way it shows when compared to the TV’s software. Wi-Fi, some always complain about it. My unit connected flawlessly on my Wi-Fi, of which I have 2 different hot spots. Best part it connected every time without issues. Never losing its stored password, never a hiccup! Now comes the best part, 4K. While my 1 st 1080 plain Samsung Blu-ray is ok, and my second test on my Upscaling 4k Samsung BD-F7500 is a bit better, when you run this true 4K with HDR on TV with HDR , a true SUHD TV using a 4K Movie streamed or on DVD, you get that awesome 4K picture you see when you’re in the Big Box BB Store! I watched several DVD’s with almost no issues. I ran into just 1 small issue. During play back, it froze for a second or two. I thought a Smudge on the DVD? I thought I’d have to eject it or worse turn off and back on but no. It quickly recovered and no further issues. Then on another different movie it did the same thing?! Always picking up a second or two from where it originally froze in the movie. Now this got my attention. Now I’m checking the DVD disk for issues such as a scratch or finger print but nothing. One disk was a 1080 so I played it on my other 2 players and it didn’t skip. One disk was a regular DVD not a Blu-ray disk. Is it a huge problem, NO. The rest of the player lives up to all expectations. But I am a tad disappointed that it has this issue as I am with the sound issue on my new Samsung Q6 TV which I will explain. The Q6 TV, it starts sounding this horrible Audio Beeping. The only way to stop it is to go into the settings, broadcasting, and remove it from Stereo and set to Mono. If the TV loses power, it goes back to Stereo and you have to do it all over again! Spectrum Cable advised it’s a known issue where the TV doesn’t like the Digital signal converted back to Analog and its searching for the Stereo signal. Spectrum is all digital now and they convert it back to analog for large H.O.A communities that provide basic cable where you don’t need a cable box for basic Cable. My other NEW Samsung TV’s doesn’t have this problem. Now this Blu-ray players little Glitch just adds to my thoughts as to why Samsung’s QC doesn’t catch these issues? One more thing to point out is this Blu-Ray player has Samsung’s HDR. It’s NOT an High Definition Recorder like TiVo, it’s an acronym for “High Dynamic Range” on 4K TV’s. Basically it a software that adjust the brightness, contrasts and other adjustments. It makes 4K more VIBRANT! With that said, this DVD player has Samsung’s HDR technology. You have to have an HDR compatible tv and HDR content BUT with HDR + feature in the menu, it will try to up it to HDR as much as possible. All in All its one of the best Samsung DVD players to date and which I’ve owned. If you have a 4K Samsung TV, preferably SUHD with HDR, this is the perfect match for that picture you’ve been seeing in the stores HDTV but not at home. It's a no brainer.

My first 4k UHD player Samsung branding. This device changed my idea of being skeptical about using any other brands in this segment. Design is very attractive and light weight, setup is simple and straightforward, plenty of apps that you can choose from Samsung store, picture is so brilliant and HD scaling “enhance lower resolution to HD” with crispy sound with Dolby 7.1 decoding channel, HDR is supported, BT connectivity is really my favorite feature becuase I like watching movies without being disruptive to people around me. The only thing that I hoped Samsung may have considered is to allow streaming feature from UBD M-9700 to smart phone to be ipen and not exclusively fir Samsung devices, other than that I liked it and doesn’t make much noise comapred to others out there in the market

The Samsung UBD-M9700 Blu Ray Player stretches far past just watching Blu Ray. I was amazed by the number of apps offered on the Samsung app store. The crisp sound quality, the beautiful 4K video is top of the line, and unlike any other, I have ever used. I stream a lot of music, so I was very excited when I saw that it offers every music service I subscribed too and I discovered even more music services (most of them free!) to begin using. Cord Cutters will love to add this to their home theatre system as well. It includes Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Video, ESPN, and hundreds more! You can also cast your mobile devices through different ways to the player. It allows for Bluetooth connectivity, so I was quickly able to connect my soundbar with no issues. I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars and the only reason I didn't give it a full 5 is the setup of your Samsung account, and connecting of the wifi is a tad tedious only because there is no keyboard, or code to enter so you can do it on the computer. Other than that this product is unsurpassed to any media player currently on the market. It can do everything you can imagine and so much more!

Yeah I know it was expressive but you will quickly realize what a really nice Blu-ray player this is. Samsung to Samsung products work so well together. The moment I turned the Blu-ray player on the TV went right into setup mode. A few clicks on the remote and player was ready to use. You will need a high quality 4K HDMI cable to take advantage of the high resolution this unit can produce. Be prepared to spend another $70+. It is simple to hook up. The unit is so quite! not like the Samsung 8500 I returned. Picture is very clear, no glitching or static noticed. So far I am very please with my purchase.

We've been through three Sony 4K blu-ray players, and we decided to give this one a try. The first Sony one, motherboard went bad (thank goodness for geek squad protection plan), the replacement one froze within 2 days. Returned it for a different Sony one, which froze too! We switched brands and got the better model...LOVE it! And the remote works together with our Samsung TV. The crispness and sound of the movies are amazing. Easy streaming access to Netflix, etc... and no more issues with frozen screens! Highly recommend this model.

Bought this because I felt like my Xbox One X was not playing 4k BluRays at their full potential. I was right, the colors are so much better with this player! The blacks are black and not greyish. The colors really pop. Regular BluRays looks great upscaled to 4k. Definitely would recommend.

Samsung UBD M9700 is a grand attempt at making an ultra HD Blu-ray player the best it can. It achieves this on numerous levels. Normally I would dread the software installed on most of these players as they are not smooth, I'm happy to report that the Samsung UBD-M9700 is not only smooth but the UI is beautiful to boot. Out of the box its super easy to set up and plug but there are many other options here. I've used the LG UP970 and its issues with being loud distracted my family from viewing movies peacefully. When given the chance we had a chance to test the Samsung UBD-M9700 player and it's so much better than LG offering. The picture is clear and crisp with 4K HDR shining through while working properly. The sound of the player itself is kept at a low which is already an improvement. For whatever reason, it's also faster then my Xbox One X BD in loading movies if that anything to go at. Personally, it is best on the market as far as Blu-ray goes. The HDR playback is flawless and amazing, the 4K is breathtaking...I did have a chance to test the 360 video (shocking I know...) with the Samsung Gear 360. It worked fine moving the video file to a USB from the phone. Though I highly doubt many will use this great feature. 4K disc playback for all the disc media that's important of today. CDs (with CD ripping)/DVDs/Blu-Rays all work here but what you are paying for is the superb quality of Blu-ray in 4K and HDR. There is nothing like seeing something like this with all the right equipment. HDR is the very thing you should be buying this player for because it is simply breathtaking to see all these colors pop right in front of your eyes. Netflix is the perfect app to use to test this. Ozark is a series on Netflix that can showcase many natural elements of HDR from the city to the forest. It's all wonderfully showcased here in the Samsung UBD-M9700. Bolder contrast and more vibrant colors strike the screen but none of this matters if you don't have a TV that supports HDR. I've tried "The Revenant" made me feel like I was in the heart of the forest, Deadpool has such mindblowing colors, and if you want to really showcase your TV just pop in the movie "Ghost in a shell" which IMO pushes HDR colors to your pupils like due to its visually striking shots! Color Accuracy is spot on! There are many more movies in 4K HDR like Black Panther that is one of the best to show a friend what HDR and 4K can do. It all works fine and well and the audio does it the sweet spot. Samsung claims this player preserves the quality and richness of the original sound through 192 kHz/24bit without downsampling. The apps you care about is here, there is Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, Hulu, Vudu, Spotify, Google Play movies....chances are if there is a popular streaming service is on this Samsung player. TONS of choices for the consumer. If you have a Samsung flagship phone (S8, Tab S3, S7, Note5, S6 with Nougat OS) you can also stream the blu-ray to the phone anywhere in the house which is a neat feature. Samsung's UBD M9700 hits every perfect angle when using as a blu-ray player it's a little pricey but its worth every penny after my weeks of testing. It shows a spectrum of colors that vivid and lifelike on any HDR 4KTV period and glad Samsung is flexing its muscles in this area. It's also a good streaming box for those who are wondering with so many apps on the marketplace. This is personally the best 4K HDR player I've used since its adoption.

As content shifts away from physical media, 4K is kicking making a subtle move to push ahead of Blu-ray (and DVD for that matter). Here comes Samsung with a new 4K player that serves as a great all in one media device for any home entertainment system. First, the packaging – very tight, but easy to open. Friendly packaging that is somewhat elegant but secure. Once I removed the device, the first thing I noticed was the nice, subtle curve in the front. I really like this design, as it is sleek and very different. Setup is pretty much standard – plug in the power cable, and HDMI cable, and you’re done. Simple, as it should be. There is a second HDMI out for audio only – a cool alternative to optical out. Turn the player on and you are greeted to a setup routine that involves setting regional information, connecting to your network, and connecting to a Samsung account (or signing up). This process was pretty seamless. I did really like the menu design and the clean look of the interface. It felt a lot less like the standard Blu-ray/DVD player set up. Once setup is complete, the interface is also very user friendly. The apps appear in a toolbar of sorts and gives you the feeling of any multitasking tablet environment. This player has the Samsung Apps Smart Hub and a built-in web browser. This is a welcome addition, as it allows you to combine your streaming and media play needs in a single device. Before trying the apps, I popped in a Bluray. Well, my first thought was fast. It was up and playing very quickly. Pop in a 4K disc and it handles that pretty quickly as well. That’s one of the weaknesses for many players, in my opinion, but Samsung seems to have produced a product with sufficient processing speed. How does it play? Of course, it is clear and smooth, but I expected nothing less. I have one off brand Blu-ray player, and t taught me there is a difference in quality output. What did peak my interest a bit more was the ability to stream the content played to my mobile device. This player has Blu-ray to mobile functionality. You can view whatever your player is displaying on your connected mobile device. It also has SmartView. This allows you to push your mobile device display and activity to your TV via connection to the Blu-ray player. Both are very cool features that worked beautifully (I have an Android device). Great features that I believe are can’t miss! With the cool features, the modern design, and the sleek interface, I can’t help but recommend the UBD-M9700. Not only are the features welcome, it is a solid 4K player that is very easy to use.

I went through several different players to find one which fulfilled advertised upscaling normal DVDs to 4k. This was the only one that did a good job! The only thing I don't care for is the lack of info in the front display but maybe all newer players are designed that way nowadays . . . I miss having time and track displays!

I love this player. As soon as I got my first look, I was sold. OK, not totally, but it has a great-looking, yet, very minimal and clean design. There are few buttons, and no “flash,” just a sleek black box that fits in well with the rest of my components. Beyond looks, it is well-built and feels solid. It sports the typical connectivity options: 2 HDMI outs (one for audio), ethernet port (Wi-Fi is also built in), digital audio out and a USB port. Once hooked up, set-up is a breeze. Wi-Fi, updates, general set-up…etc…are all as expected and a simple process. The streaming options from the Samsung software are plentiful, and I expect most things people are looking for are there (Netflix, Prime, YouTube, Hulu…). The software is snappy, quick and fluid and while I use a wired internet connection, I tested the wireless and it ran perfectly for me. Samsung really got all this right. Menus, content, speed…all smooth, good-looking and great performance. As for disc playback, I could not be happier. It plays everything I throw at it, and it does it well. And FAST! Standard blu rays look great, and even the few DVDs I still have around upscale better than I thought they would. That said, the main reason for me for this player is 4K content…and well, wow! I know this is somewhat dependent on what TV you send this source to, but I am kind of floored by the picture. Not only the resolution, but contrast, colors, brightness and darkness. Crisp. Clean. Vivid. Vibrant. Accurate. I am very impressed, across the board, but HDR content looks especially fantastic. The one feature that I have yet to explore, but I am so looking forward to trying is the ability to connect bluetooth headphones to the player. I think this is genius. Being able to watch something, say, while in bed, without blasting sound is a great feature. I just thought I should mention it, as I am not sure if this is thing with other devices, but it is here with this one. What else can I say? I think Samsung checked every box here. A well-designed player that is feature-rich and performs well. If you are looking for a 4K player, I think you will be happy with this one.

Excellent over all but not better than the Panasonic 4k player. But don't get me wrong because it still is nice for a samsung player. Believe it or not but I had a hard time deciding if I wanted this or the Panasonic 4k player which I finally got the Panasonic 4k player. First, I received this Blu-ray player from Samsung through Best Buy's Tech Insider Network in exchange for a fair and unbiased review. That said, I'll be right up front and tell you that this latest tech Blu-ray player is incredible and I can highly recommend it. It is the nicest DVD/BR I've ever owned and it will take me months to get around to learning more about all the cool features this Blu-ray player/media hub offers. It is much more than a disc playback machine. A word of caution. After getting everything hooked up and made ready to see some rock'n video, all I got was a blank screen. After some old school troubleshooting I discovered my 3 year old HDMI switch was unable to pass through the newer 4K Ultra HD signal from the Blu-ray player. When I tried to display the Blu-ray output through the switch and on to my TV, all I got was a momentary flicker and then a blank screen. So I bypassed the switch and sent the output straight from the Blu-ray player to the HDMI-2 input on the TV. That would be the better solution anyway for evaluating a Blu-ray player. However, everyone in our household is used to selecting devices through an HDMI switch and none, including myself, like messing with selecting various HDMI inputs on the TV. So I guess I’ll have to start shopping for the latest tech HDMI switch I can find. The wireless Wi-Fi connection from the player to my router went off without a hitch. The only difficulty there and actually on all the other setups requiring username and password entry is the aggravating remotes. I hate the direction remote design is heading: smaller and smaller until they're almost unusable for someone like myself with limited fine motor skill in their hands. Just my quick 2 cents. Once this player was up and running you quickly realize you currently have the latest model tech! The colors are stunning and make everything look brighter, but without making the scenes look unnatural or other-worldly. The audio was incredible through my Dolby Atmos capable soundbar. One of the nicer features is the player's ability to connect to one pair of Bluetooth headphones. I had been hoping that newer players and TVs would start offering that capability. However, it would've been even nicer if it could simultaneously connect to two sets of headphones. Then I could stop using a Bluetooth transmitter to run two pairs. I'm sure we'll see that in a couple years. This is the first player I've ever owned that can actually surf the Internet for content to play. However, not having a mouse or touchscreen makes it difficult because using the remote's directional arrows for Internet navigation is clunky at best. I hope to get better at it with repeated use. Or maybe invest in a more capable universal remote. We've had this Samsung Blu-ray player for a couple weeks now and love it. We can find nothing truly wrong with it at all, mostly just preferences on my part. Please forgive my rant on remotes. They're all getting that way. And then watching my seven year old granddaughter use it like a pro is truly depressing! One last thing, make sure you download the Full User Manual from the Samsung website. You'll quickly see that only the most necessary and basic features are covered in the pamphlet that was included in the box with the player. I only mention this because Samsung also calls the included pamphlet a User Manual and that could lead many owners to believe that that 20 page pamphlet is the whole User Manual. It really should've been called a Quick Start Guide. In summary, if you got the bucks to buy this very nice, latest tech, Samsung 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, go ahead. Because based on my experience, you won't be disappointed.
