If you are looking for the best movie viewing experience that you can have at home, this Samsung media device is a great option. You will not find a crisper, more spectacular picture when watching an Ultra HD Blu-Ray. While the Blu-Ray viewing is its specialty, the streaming apps are also a great bonus. Most streaming devices on the market do not allow for 4K playback but this one does. It also seems to have better processing power than smart TVs with built-in apps that never seem to work well for me. This device also will up-convert your DVDs to improve their picture quality. The menu is easy to navigate, and the remote is well designed. Cons: The only downsides to this media player are the price and the size of the unit. It will take up a decent amount of space in your entertainment center so be sure to check the specs for measurements. For the price of this unit you can also buy a gaming console that plays 4k video content, but not everyone is a gamer. Overall, this is a great option for movie lovers and cord cutters that want the very best picture they can find.

The Samsung UBD-M9700 may seem a bit pricey, but it offers an amazing array of options and replaces an array of devices. The first measure of any player is the video quality and the M9700 doesn't disappoint. This is the first Blu-ray player I've seen that makes the UHD discs worthwhile. The improvement in playback of UHD media and upscaling quality of FHD media was quite noticeable. Setup is very simple, even simpler since I was connecting to a Samsung UHD tv. Connect power and HDMI, go through the initial setup routine to connect wifi (or ethernet), and you're pretty much ready to go. You can create a Samsung account, which allows you to save password across accounts. Setup your streaming apps and accounts and you're done. There are a couple hundred apps for video and music streaming services, so the need for another box pretty much goes away. As is typical these days, only a quick start guide is included in the box. Make sure to download the full manual from Samsung. Construction quality is solid. The M9700 can also play CDs, mirror your Android phone or tablet's screen, and play videos (and photos) from either a USB stick or network store. It features Control4 SSDP and integrates nicely into home automation schemes. One really nice thing, if you have a 360 camera, such as the Samsung, Insta360 or Rylo, it will allow you to play back and pan through the video using the remote. Cons: The only minuses are that it doesn't support 3D and it doesn't include Dolby Vision, opting instead for HDR10+. 3D never really caught on, but the lack of Dolby Vision may prove to be a minus. Overall, an incredibly satisfying, if somewhat overwhelming, selection for a media hub/Blu-ray player!

The Samsung UBD-M9700 is more than just an updated Blu-Ray player. This definitely gets us one step closer to an all-inclusive media hub. While I will still watch Blu-Rays on it, it can do so much more. However, let me start at the beginning and talk about the setup. The user interface is very nice and easy to work with. It was almost ridiculously easy. I plugged it in, connected it to my wireless system, and the rest was history. It connected to my Samsung TV and LG soundbar almost instantly. From there, it was just loading my credentials for streaming services. The number of apps that are preloaded are nice too. I didn’t have to go searching for them and wait for a download. I was able to stream right away. From a quality perspective, you can see the nice sharp image transfer from the get go. I noticed the crispness while streaming and watching movies via Blu-Ray. While my TV’s quality is already pretty good, this definitely enhanced it a little more. That’s what you get with this ultra 4K HDR supported beast. From a sound perspective, I don’t think it misses a beat either. The clarity and richness are tremendous. I love how it doesn’t appear to downgrade it at all. The last piece is just a little note on some of the features. The remote is blah, but I can get around that when it comes with so much more. As I mentioned before, there are apps already downloaded. You can hit up you Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play, YouTube, Hulu, Vudu, and more right from the front screen. There are more options there to tinker with everything as well. Also, you can stream from Samsung UBD-M9700 right to your Samsung phones/tablets. That’s quite the little gem if you are trying to watch something on your own or handing it off the little ones to keep them entertained. All in all, this is an awesome media hub. The Samsung UBD-M9700 might be a little expensive, but I think you can definitely get your money’s worth. The colors, sound, and streaming options wrap this up with a nice little bow that’s hard not to open as soon as you see it.

The UBD-M9700 isn’t for those who just need to play HD discs on their home TV or theatre, it’s for those who want an all-in-one smart set top box with the added ability to spin up BluRay discs and output 4K HDR video in a very elegant package. The build quality is typical excellent Samsung. The front curve of the device meant to contour nicely to their curved displays. This thing isn’t meant for cabinet duty - It longs to be out on display with the screen... Front and center. Inside the software isn’t Roku or Amazon FireTV as we see with more affordable options today, but rather Samsung’s own take on Smart TV with their own apps for major streaming and rental platforms, such as NetFlix, Hulu, etc. I use YoutubeTV which was conspicuously absent, but with Samsung not hooking up with a partner like a Google or Rocky for software help, these issues will persist... Cord cutters beware that your all-in-one smart solution may not include an “app” for your chosen IPTV service. I’d love to see more from the App Store on devices like this to make them competitive with AndroidTV, etc, particularly if this is to replace all of my other connected TV devices. Built-in ChromeCast support would be a welcome addition too. Blue Ray playback was great on this, and HDR was exactly as expected on my only HDR capable TV. I did not get a chance to evaluate 3D playback. The included remote is small, yet elegant, and I enjoyed the quiet “clickiness” to it. Being small I can see it easily lost and wouldn’t have hated to see a controller with more heft in the box. If you don’t already have a BD solution, or you’re wanting to make all personal entertainment happen with one HDMI input, this is a solid choice. If your needs are more diverse than the Samsung partnerships included, perhaps look elsewhere, but you’re giving up the truly all-in-one advantage of a product like this, which is almost very well executed.

Unboxing and set up. It’s straight-forward, once you plug in the player in, it boots up and starts the guided set up, going through internet connection and to sign up for the Samsung account, and to personalize content on the hub page. It is light weight, and has a low profile which is nice, it fits under my TV. There are several ports that are clearly labeled: Power, LAN, Optical Audio, HDMI for TV, and HDMI for audio only. Picture quality is awesome, even on my Non-4k TV, it plays both Blu-Ray and DVD (I just moved, so I couldn’t find all my discs. I used a DVD for the test). I was reading other reviews and heard that there were noise complaints with the fan. Yes, there is an exhaust fan, but I did not hear anything at all, and I have pretty good hearing. So, the unit ran silent for me. Sound quality is fine too, levels were balanced. The remote is nice, there’s only 23 buttons, and they are easy to read, the remote itself is a bit awkward to hold, but I’m used to holding a larger remote. The remote does have special buttons to control the volume, power and input for Samsung TV’s. I don’t have one currently. Menu navigation is easy with the buttons and it is very responsive, with virtually no lag time. I did play around with the applications (Youtube) and it had no problem connecting to my network and there were no issues with buffering. The applications are nice, especially if you don’t have a smart TV, or if you need a back-up if your smart TV system fails. Overall, if you want a top-line 4K blu-ray player, this is a solid device and would really recommend it, if you are looking to stay in the Samsung family.

We have had a Samsung smart Blu-Ray player for a few years and it has served us well and continues to work fine. We decided to update our living room entertainment and were able to get this new player. I really liked our older model, although it was pretty slow to navigate through the menus and starting apps took a bit of a wait. This model is lightning quick! Not only does it load the apps (like Netflix) very quickly, it even remembers where you were in the app so you can click and continue watching with very little effort. The Samsung apps were pretty limited on our old player. Although it listed a huge number, only a handful seemed to really be useful. The new model has a bunch of very useful apps and it seems you should be able to find something for about any taste. Setup was a simple task and the network access is quick for loading apps and searching for videos. The remote is very simple, but can handle every task needed for the player, as well as having a few buttons for controlling a TV. I also enjoy the ability to stream the audio to my Bluetooth headphones so I can listen to the sound without going through my sound system late at night. The only thing I would like to see is a way to make a shortcut for this in the “Apps” screen so I can switch to it without going into the settings screen. There may be a way, I just haven’t found it yet! I am really impressed with the speed and features of the player, it is proving to be a great addition to our home. While a bit expensive, I doubt many people would be disappointed with this player and smart device.

Great multi media Ultra HD Bluray Player

The UBD-M9700 is a great option for anyone wanting a great all in one player. No need for other devides here. You get amazing HDR, DVD upconversion, all the apps you will ever need, USB media playback, HD audio, Bluetooth, 360 degree pictures and videos, and of course an excellent Ultra HD Bluray player all in one. In the box you get the player of course, a nice non complicated remote, batteries, power cable, and the manual. Hook up and set up is a breeze. In my case being paired with a Samsung UN55KS9000 makes for a great pair. Build wise it is very slick and well built. It is a bit on the wide side, but not so much that it doesnt fit. It has 2 HDMI ports, but the 2nd one is for the optional sub out (audio only). The other ports are optical and LAN if you prefer Ethernet over Wi-Fi which I do for better speed and reliability. Overall this is not just a great Bluray player, but media powerhouse. No need to have a separate box for apps, etc. Everything you need all in one well built, great looking device. If you want an excellent device that can do it all this is a great choice. Thanks for reading.

Top of Line in Features and Price

This 4K Blu Ray player is premium in many ways: feature set, design, performance, and price. The main addition over the cheaper M9500 model is the compatibility with Control4 home automation. At current time, I do not have a system which can utilize this admittedly awesome feature, but at least in the future when I finally get there, this player will integrate nicely. As expected, performance of this system is very good. I experienced no slowness what so ever, and the player handled basically everything I threw at it (including some home network file formats which surprised me). Just look at the list of formats that it supports and you'll realize that this is a player that you could build your home theater/entertainment system around. The design is also very appealing. Though the curved shape is intended to pair with their line of curved LED tvs, I found that the player fit in with my collection of mostly boxy devices. Overall, the player exudes quality and style, which I know is important to at least a subset of men out there trying to appease their significant others. Overall, the only knock I have against this player is that the price is quite high. The landscape for 4K players is different than it was a couple years back when there was little competition. Now, all the major brands have players across all price ranges. However, those looking for a player that can handle basically any format, and that has features that should keep it current for a while, this is the player to get.

First the beware, if any component within your system chain does not support HDCP 2.2 you will not experience true 4K unless you utilize the dual HDMI outputs to get around components that do not support HDCP 2.2. That being said, always a good idea to download and review the user manual in addition to the quick start guide. Included in the Samsung Smart Hub are enough, IMHO, app options to make this worthwhile. Queueing up disks and streaming content has been excellent in my experience thus far. Blu Ray content looks terrific, sure seems there is some level of up-converting taking place as 1080p content seems more vivid?? Love the Bluetooth connection feature so I can enlist some headphones late at night and not wake the wife while watching content. Setup and connection has been flawless on everything tested to date. I also like the Blu-ray to Mobile feature that beams 4K and regular Blu-ray discs to an Android smartphone. No more arguing about watching this versus a movie. When playing a disk: If I press pause and then press play, the information overlay remains on the screen for about 7 seconds, just long enough to miss some movie content, a little annoying but meh…. Two last things that are minor but annoy me, for the money I think build quality should be more. Why can’t we have some substantial metals or carbon fiber instead of plastic? Although I do like the OLED display on this. This play lacks 3D Blu-ray support, so much for that library but it seems no one watches them anymore anyway. Also not included is Dolby Vision which may not be a big deal now but I suppose by the time the market grows I’ll be looking for the latest and greatest again in this disposable market. At the current price point not for everyone but they are dropping which makes it a hefty recommend for me.

There was a time when a Blu-ray player was just that, a Blu-ray player. Now you can do so much more than just watch a disc via a connected screen. Just connect over WiFi to one of your streaming services and you can watch Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube among others. Picture quality of a Blu-ray disc is superb, though it will upcycle. Setup via Wi-fi was fine. No problems encountered yet after initial setup and usage. Includes batteries, hurray. More movie nights thanks to the better display and ease of integration to various tools.
