Wow!! This game is so good that make me happy!! I'm fan of Samurai Shodown from the beginning and this one makes me remember the first one but with the new great graphics, textures sound and visual effects. SNK made my year!! Hope they will continue making more Samurai Shodown games and revive The Last Blade series too.

Samurai Shodown 2019 is an instant classic to me. I loved the originals particularly 2 and 2019 plays most like Samurai Shodown 2 in my opinion and its art reminds me of 2. Unlike many convo focused fighting games Samurai Shodown has more of an emphasis on movement and strategic attacking since one hit can do massive damage. I would say this game is great for people who want to try fighting games for the first time because its a lot harder for a polished player to just demolish you with huge combo chains. Watch the game being played on youtube for a better understanding of its mechanics and why i think it is very approachable for newbs and vets alike.

This game has a very nice presentation that meets the high standards of the original arcade series. The music is nice and fitting for the theme. It has a nice roster to select from. Alot of other fighting series have disappointed this generation but this one seems to be one that breaks that trend. The graphics have that cel shaded look but you can tell they are still polygons similar to Street Fighter 4. Overall pretty good graphics that will satisfy but not the best. The gameplay is very good, not the fastest and flashiest game but very satisfying impacts with great effects.

I remember playing Samurai Shodown a long time ago on SNES, but this new game is a prequel to that game and it doesn’t disappoint with old characters returning and with brand new ones making their debut in the game on the roster. The graphics are awesome on a 4K tv if you have one but looks just as good in 1080p, there’s new stage backgrounds and the music is great as well. Everyone has their specific move list along with a special move to finish off your opponent, but now everyone has a new “one strike” death move (can’t remember the actual name of it at the moment). This move is tied directly into the rage gage meter and there’s a price for using it, it can only be used once so you have to choose wisely when doing so because once you do your entire rage meter disappears for the rest of the game but it does major damage to your health bar taking up to 3/4 to 1/2 of it away (it’s risk vs reward sort of like Akuma’s raging demon in Street fighter). I’d recommend this game if your a fan of the series, even newcomers can jump right in start playing too because there is a training mode to get caught up to speed on all the characters move lists etc.....you also can have a ghost of yourself in training mode and play against yourself or your friends, it’s a pretty cool to practice and get better.

Not a lot of characters but each character is very unique and if you picked up the game within its first week of release and they gave you the season pass. The game looks great with its unreal 4 graphics and there is plenty to do in the game. There are a few things that I don’t like about the online play and setup but I can live with it. Game is a solid 8/10

Although I thought Samurai Shodown was cool back In the day, I never truly learned how to play it very well. So I’m not sure if the mechanics of this game is similar to the old games. But I love the mechanics in this new game. People say it’s slow, but that’s what makes it different. It maybe slow moving, but the damage is extremely high. So the matches aren’t any longer than a typical Street Fighter or Tekken match. It’s a very colorful, yet violent game. One of the better fighting games to come out this past year.

I’m glad with the revival of this fighting game! I used to love playing these back then! This updated version has a great starting roster! The fights are fast and intense! If you loved the older games it’s definitely worth a try. Online fighting is great! New characters are always being added to the roster. I believe season 3 characters are the most recent. I’m very glad I preordered this game.

As someone who spent hours in the arcade playing Samurai Shodown 2 this game is an absolute treat! The music, art style, and gameplay make for a fantastic experience. While some classic characters are missing, the season pass guarantees more characters to come. This is a great technical fighter that has some real nuance especially in the defense side.

Being a old school Neo Geo enthusiast I'm always happy to give games like this a try. I was not ready for how on the nose this title is however and thats a good thing!
If you ever played SS before than you know what to expect and dare I say it, it's a welcomed change to all the current anime fighters that are out there. SS was always a more slow and methodical, but that in no way makes it inferior!
The controls are good, the art direction is lovely and most important the moves and execution are on point, PLUS atm if you have PSN you get a free season pass. there is no reason not to play this.
There's a lot of classic Neo Geo games that I would love to see done with this much love and care, World Heroes, a redux or KOF, Fatal Fury, Rage of the Dragon, you get the idea
I hope the sales are good enough so that maybe we can get a SS2 or SS3 even or other titles from the Neo Geo arena

This game is accessible for both new and hardcore fighting game fans. No overly difficult combo system or hard to do inputs, game place emphasis on both offensive and defensive plays. If you're new to fighting games. This is a great place to start.

Samurai Shodown is back! This game is all about reading your opponent and striking when the time is right. It is a slower paced fighting game but so satisfying with the high risk high reward gameplay. Also, the graphics and music are beautiful!

I love this game for multiple reasons. The graphics are superb, side scrolling fighting games are my favorite, and all of the characters speak Japanese! The moves aren't tough to figure out and my Street Fighter skills are portable here. The characters are pretty awesome I wish they'd make a deluxe version with all of the characters.

Fans of the SS series will love this game. This is not your typical combo heavy game. Starters can have fun with and veterans as well. Great graphics and easy to learn mechanics. Their's also a Nintendo Switch version on the way. Its worth a purchase but there are better games out right now with more flair.

I have been a long time fan of Samurai Shodown every since the arcades. This fighting game breaks the mold. If you are looking for insane combos you should find a different game. Beautiful music and graphics takes this to the next level. I highly recommend for fans and fighting gamer's alike.

Not only is this an incredible return to the Samurai Shodown series, but it is a breath of fresh air when it comes to fighting games. There is absolutely nothing else like this in the market right now, do you enjoy fighting games? Get this, however, it is a slower paced, whiff-punish, methodical, styled game. There are no massive flashy combos, just a lot of massive damage single hits and the game relies heavily on spacing and footsies. Give it a shot, you won't regret it, but don't play this like you do any other fighting game, spend time in the tutorial and really learn this game. Enjoy.

I’m a huge fighting game fan, and Samurai Shodown is a classic series. If you’re looking for a fighting game with long combos and exaggerated supers then this isn’t for you. This game is all about that punish game. It’s about reacting because attacks don’t hit often but when they do they hit HARD. This is a game about knowing when to react and waiting for an opening. Perfect example of easy to understand and hard to master. High rank fights turn into a nail biting ballet of blocks and punishes.
