slower paced fighting game where only a couple mistakes can cost you the match due to the extremely high damage. pretty fun game though!

This is an update to the classic SamSho series. This game places an emphasis on pokes, footsies, and decisive counters. The combos are minimal because landing almost any hit already results in massive damage. Perfect for fans of old school fighters.

Good game that almost captures the old school Sam Sho feel but slightly missed the mark in my opinion. I think the 2nd game was the best due to its roster and intensity. This game is still a good solid fighter that most old schoolers will love.

i don't really know what i'm supposed to review for this - the product or the game, but both are perfectly fine. the game is fun - DLC is a bit much but it's still a fun game. real lack of single player content, though, which is a bummer bc i dislike playing competitive games online but it's whatever. it looks nice. hits have impact, which is good. it's a good game. the box is nice, too.

Samurai Shodown is my 2nd favorite Fighting game series only after The Last Blade series. This entry was definitely a well done game, although a part of me wishes it had the same art style of King Of Fighters XIII. Overall it's not the absolute best title in the series but definitely a fun time if you take the time to learn the mechanics. The only reason I took away a star is because my the case of my copy arrived damaged which was disappointing.

I remember I used to play this game at Lampost Pizza back in the days, except it was the older version and in a big arcade machine. Now we have a new Samurai game for home and it's a good one... like bringing back the days of going to the Pizza place. I do not have a Lampost Pizza anymore, but the local Round Table has a Sunset Riders machine.

Short version:
One of the best, most accessible fighting games in years. It feels at once both fully modern and like a throwback to the classic SS titles. If you're new to the genre or series, get it. If you're a veteran of either or both, get it.

While a slow fighting game, this entry in SS series is very well done and a faithful reboot of the source material. I don't fault SNK for staying true to the series roots in the battle mechanics. If you don't like slower fighters then I advise that you avoid this title. Overall, this is a very well balanced and fun fighter.

This game is not for combo-lovers. It is very deliberate, strategic, and full of mind games, as each action has an appropriate counter. It is a very intense game of risk vs reward, and insane combacks can happen so it's truly never over until it's over. Just a super accessible, very visceral and deeply satisfying gameplay.

A return to form for the Sam-Sho series

It's good to see SNK producing fighting games again. For years they lagged behind Capcom with low-res sprites and "not-quite there" gameplay (not to mention their stint of almost exclusively producing casino games), but "KOF 14" wowed me and proved they could adapt to today's modern demands.
Enter 2019's "Samurai Showdown", the first official entry in the series in over a decade. It's a return to form for the series...ditching the fast combo gameplay of "Samurai Showdown 6" and focusing more on the block-and-counter mechanics that made the first and second games so prolific. In fact, even the character roster and settings feel like a call-back to the days of old. As per usual, the interface is beautifully decorated with a traditional Japanese tapestry aesthetic.
A fair amount of modes are included. There's Story, which functions as both the narrative and the arcade mode; it features Shizuka as the typical energy-blasting villain to overcome at the end (I'm glad to see an original last boss, and not just Amakusa again). There's also Survival, Training, Time Attack, and Gauntlet, which fill the roles of most everything you'd want offline.
A word of warning, though...the base roster is comprised of 17 characters, which isn't terrible, but it pales in comparison to KOF 14's 40+ fighters. The load times hinder the fun as well. At almost 30 seconds between each match, you'll be waiting a lot...even on a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X.
As for myself, I loved the more combo-oriented gameplay of "Samurai Showdown 6", and that's still my most played game of the series. So for me, it's a bit of a letdown that faster-paced chain combos are absent. Combine that with the excruciating load times and the lack of a few of my key characters (I still think the launch roster would have done well with about 8 more characters), and this iteration of "Samurai Showdown" has me feeling a bit unsatisfied personally. Perhaps my opinion will improve with time.

I love fighting games, but I've never been into Samurai Shodown. But truly this reboot, with high stakes, high reward playstyle, and the idea that every action has a counter gives every moment in the fight gripping and exciting. I do hope that this can help SNK to continue reinvigorating their great catalog of games.

This is a classic game reborn! One mistake can cost you greatly, so make sure you have a plan before you attack. Samurai Shodown is essentially a chess match in fighting game form. Highly recommend it to the FGC aficionado!

The new Samurai Shodown really delivers exactly what is expected: A fun, action packed (sword) fighting game with great graphics. If there’s one criticism I have, it’s that the single player story mode is a bit thin compared to other fighting games, but that’s a minor quibble.

Great classic arcade fighting. If you are not a fan of the originals, you may not dig it as much, but is a great unique fighting game where the weapons take huge damage off, making you move more carefully.

SNK is making a slight comeback, by releasing an updated version of Samurai Shodown and it delivers. Great characters, it's challenging and it makes you feel like you're in a Japanese Samurai movie, due to the dialogue and setting. Definitely, a must-have.

The old classic making its way to the modern gaming franchise. I grew playing this game dreaming of the possibilities. Now snk has remade this version better yet not perfect. Very fun to play while enjoying childhood memories all over again

Feels right at home for a Samurai Showdown game. I'm sad all these classic fighting series have to be 3D now, I'll always prefer 2D sprites over 3D. Despite this, the game still looks amazing. I enjoy the slower pacing of the Samurai Showdown games.

This version of Samurai Shodown is a welcome addition to the already great series. The fighting mechanics are fun and easy to learn. The graphics are really well done as well. Overall there's nothing bad I can say about this fighting game.
