Sandisk delivers a solid alternative for storage!

Here's my full review of the Sandisk USB Connect: Since the arrival of the iPad, 3rd party companies have tried to come up with a workable solution for expanding storage. The most successful ones were Drop Box, Box, and other cloud based solutions. They've been joined by Google Drive, Skydrive, and iCloud, with all competing for the future of cloud computing. That's all well in good, until you don't have an internet connection and you're not wanting to use that precious mobile data on a capped plan. Meanwhile, industry bearers like Western Digital and Seagate offered a different approach: turn a personal hard drive into a sort of cloud device by having it broadcast its own wifi signal, independent from an ISP. While this was a great idea, it was based around older, slower tech that any iPad, Nexus, or Kindle Fire's flash based architecture would eat for lunch. Plus, everyone has a heartbreaking tale of dropping a $100+ on an external hard drive, only for it to fail, taking with it all that precious data. To add to that headache even well regarded companies couldn't figure out how to make a solution intuitive enough for the average user. Enter Sandisk Connect! This device essentially provides users the best of cloud speed with the dependability of having the data physically on hand. Perhaps the best thing about the device is it works across platforms (iOS, Android, and Windows). While the purest may hate to admit it, most homes have a combination of devices: a Windows computer for work and an iPad for home, or Galaxy S4 paired with a Macbook Pro. To have a device that gets pictures, movies, documents, and pdfs to all is extremely convenient. To do it with flash architecture and a speedy built in wifi network is even better. To provide all this with a well regarded brand name for $50 to $60 is unbelievable. Sandisk Connect does it reliably and well. Photographers will especially find it convenient as my tests not only showed reliable use with JPEG but RAW as well (Cannon CR2 files to be exact. I expect this to be a case by case deal as my iPad Air natively recognizes the file, but my Nexus 4 does not). The device shines brightest when working with photos, pdfs, and docs...all things that USB 2.0 tech was originally built for. The free app through iOS and Android is a standout and very intuitive for most tech users. Video is where Sandisk Connect shows to be a mixed bag. Streaming a lower res video (540p and lower) is a breeze. Start to stream photos or other videos to another device simultaneously and you'll quickly experience buffering and slow loading. I was able to stream the entire length of The Avengers in SD, but not much else. If you can make that work, then the Sandisk Connect is for you. If you have visions of loading a 64gb card with full length HD movies and streaming them, you'll be disappointed. First loading an HD movie on the thumb drive is painfully slow over USB 2.0. Second, the file size limit for transferring to the device is 3.99 gb or less (more than any full length movie in HD). There may be workarounds to this, but even so you're gonna be out of luck when you hit buffer after buffer during the film. We're probably a generation cycle or two away from seeing the HD video streaming match that of other tasks, just in time for USB 3.0 to be a little cheaper. Sandisk Connect can also hop onto your internet hotspot allowing you to surf the net while loading content from the drive. I took the time to write a thorough review because I do believe this is a great solution for many smartphone and tablet users. I do not know how well this product stands up to wear, tear, and the test of time. But for $50 and the quality Sandisk usually brings, it's worth the gamble. Thanks for reading!

I purchased this for an overseas trip where I knew I would have limited internet. I wanted to take only an iPhone -- no laptop -- but still take lots of photos and videos that would otherwise quickly use all the storage space on my iPhone. It worked great for this purpose. As soon as I shot a video, I wirelessly transferred it to the flash drive, then deleted it from my phone and was able to shoot several times the amount of video that would otherwise be available to store on my phone. I knock off a star -- perhaps unfairly -- because I was under the impression from the product description that uploading other data from my phone to the flash drive was equally easy. It does not appear to be designed to work like that, however. Documents, for example, can be downloaded from a computer to the flash drive then wirelessly sent to your phone. But the reverse process is not available except for photos and videos. Or if it is, I haven't been able to figure out how to do it yet.

Ok so first things first. This product works like a champ with apple devices. Android.....not so much. I have an android phone (note 3) and an iPad 2. There is an app you download for each device, and you have to go to wifi settings and connect to the device. On the apple device it's easy and connects solidly. I mainly use this to store pdfs and movies. The app itself will not run the files but you can download the corresponding working app and can open the file through the proper app. You can also download a copy of the file to the device storage through the app. This has proven indespensible on my very limited on space iPad. Now my phone. It just doesn't play very well. I can get it to connect but there are frequent disconnects. And sometimes my phone has a very hard time finding the device. Once i do get it connected it does work, but like i said a bitnof a hastle. This seems to be the common issue with this device. Works awesome with apple and just gets by with android. I still recommend it though, wifi storage is a wonderful and convenient thing to have, even more so if you only carry apple devices.

I jumped on this wireless flash drive when it was on sale and compounded the deal by applying a promo code I received from Student Deals. Which ever is on a better sale, buy it because here is a little trick to this Wireless Flash Drive. There is a flap on the side that carries the microSD card. That's right. You can swap out the memory cards. I've placed a 64GB and 128GB memory card in it; it has worked for both cards. This is a great piece to have so you can share files or even use it as a microSD card adapter in a pinch. Sure the transfer speed isn't that great but ti be able to expand it and share files makes it a great buy. I sort of wish the USB drive was shorter in length but then how would it sustain its battery life and sturdiness.

Overall I like this device. My studies and school have me working in a clinic setting where i cannot bring my laptop / books with me into various treatment rooms, patient intakes, etc... however, I can bring a small mobile device (Ipad mini, smartphone, tablet, etc...) The ease of being able to quickly find and add a file to my "device" that pertains to what I am dealing with in the clinic is nice. The fact that I can then put it back on the Sandisk instead of taking up room on my tablet is nice too. It also means I can pre-load the stick with a lot more information to access should I need it and just keep it in my pocket. The only thing I wish it could do was work wirelessly with my laptop and not need to be plugged in. Then I could quickly pop into the office, quickly upload or download something and rush back out without having to fish it out, plug it in, etc... BTW, it does have a pretty nice wireless range I've found which allows me to grant access to my colleagues so they can be looking at what I am during our shifts.

This is a good, convenient, and useful product. Basically, it is an expensive USB thumb drive, but goes beyond that. It offers WiFi connectivity of a uSD card for your tablet or phone, and is compatible with iOS or Android products. This makes for very convenient transfer of files between PC, Android, and iOS devices. The required apps that must be used with this device is a little cumbersome to use. However, the non-ergonomic app and somewhat expensive "thumb drive" is well worth the added cost in that it provides WiFi for moving personal files around between most of popular devices without use of the cloud.

I have an iPhone 5S and needed to make space for a software update. My pictures were taking up the most storage on my phone. I don't currently have a computer or laptop to download my pictures to and did not want to use the cloud storage. This product is perfect for picture storage. It's also wireless and simple to use. Everyone in my household was able to download thier pictures to it from thier phone! We can also view all each others photos from it when connected. Very cool!

The SanDisk wireless drive is great for transferring files to and from your mobile device. The drive uses micro-disks that can be swapped in and out so you can use your existing micro disks along with the 32 Gig one that comes with the wireless drive. Come with written and video instructions to make it easy to understand how to use the drive. The only down site is that you still need to download an app in order to use it with you smart phone or table.

I purchased this while it was on sale as a means of trying to wirelessly place files on the drive and not have the hassle of having I plug in a flash drive when I wanted to save. For 32 gigs at less than 40 bucks for the sale price is is a pretty sweet deal. It doesn't take long to charge, surprisingly, and has a nice, sleek design. The only problem I have is that you have to be connected to an Internet connection (wifi) for it to work. Doesn't always work on my PC.

I purchased this to carry videos that I could stream to my ipad when away from home. It does do that well. The videos must be in an ipad format and you have to watch through the SanDisk app. Battery life says it is about 4 hours but I haven't used it for that long at a time to say for sure. The quality of the item is good and I haven't had any trouble with it watching videos or listening to music.

I was looking for a way to store documents, photos, movies etc that I could use when traveling with just my ipad. This fit the bill. Easy to use, good wireless connectivity and password protected. Now I have all my media with me without having to lug along a laptop. Great product.

I bought this item to allow me to increase my storage capacity on both my iPad and my iPhone. With the Sandisk I am able to view files from my MacBook pro on both my portable Apple products. It is basically just a flash drive with WiFi capabilities--but it allows you to overcome the "gigabyte" limitations of Apple pads and phones. This product is useful for any iPad or iPhone user.

Truly a spacesaver and a lifesaver! This wireless drive is the best! I love taking pictures and videos with my phone and this drive makes that easy and affordable. Some people may say "Oh just move it to the cloud", that takes a considerable amount of data on your cellular plan. I work in I.T. and this drive is a very cool tool.

Have used it twice once in an air plane with 4 people streaming some sitting as much as 8 rows away and it worked great. Cut out a couple of times at the beginning but once it was connected worked flawlessly. Would def recommend for someone who wants extra space to stream movies to their iPad.

I bought the Sandisk Connect on a really good deal and it is working fine. I am a college student so I am going to use it to view photos and files without having to download it to my tablet and phone. It took a while for me to set on my android phone and tablet but now that it's setup it's working properly.

Works as stated . they play up the video which is it's weakness, playback to mobile device poor buffer takes longer than the video I strongly suggest you verify that you have downloaded and can reopen all files stored. not bad for freeing up space on your phone but not for downloading to phone

I purchased this drive to transfer pictures and movies between my kids tablets. Ive also found it useful when traveling as I have used it for offline storage of pictures etc from my iphone. The drive is useful as you can remove the microsd from the drive and put in larger card.
