Fast SSD storage in a small & convenient form

I got this SSD external drive because my Macbook Pro's storage is dismal (120GB) and photography is a hobby of mine. It didn't take long at all before I ran out of storage space, so I looked for an external SSD that would make the process of managing photos externally as simple as possible. This SanDisk SSD was the perfect choice because I offers SSD speeds, and is extremely portable and can use either a USB-A or USB-C cable to connect to a device. This allows me to just use a USB-C to USB-C cable so that I don't always have to pack around a dongle (my Macbook Pro only has Thunderbolt/USB-C ports). SanDisk made some excellent decision in the design of this external drive, because it is so light and small it would be prone to sliding around quite easily, but there is a rubbery texture around the edges and on the back of it so that it will not slide easily as it is sitting on a desk or tabletop. I have not had any issues at all with it. I highly recommend it. It is rather pricey but if you want an extremely portable and convenient storage solution I would say it's worth paying more (rather than an internal SSD drive inside an enclosure-that is prone to moving/losing connection to the enclosure terminal).

    Small, Fast, and Light Weight!

I purchased this External SSD to use for photo editing and play games off of. So far, the speeds have matched as advertised and hasn't had any issues out it. It's currently formatted on ExFat being used on both my Windows and Mac operating systems and working perfect between the two operating systems. I've also been running Call of Duty Warzone off of it on high settings without any lag and keeps up perfectly. This SSD is fantastic! I can't get over how small it is for the size and speeds it has. I highly recommend this hard drive for anyone needing a portable drive to game or edit from. I've attached a picture to compare its size to a pack of gum.

Compact, versatile, and excellent for mobile work

I own three of these (2 - TB and 1 - 500MB) I really like the versatility, portability, and speed. Because this SSD has a rubberish casing it I am more comfortable tossing it in my gadget gear pouch. It connects quickly to my Mac, PC, and iPad. I often use it as my network between devices. It comes with a type-C cord and small type-A/type-C converter. Transfer rates are excellent, not super fast but fast enough for easy 4K video transfer. The only things I don't like about this device is the cord. The cord is too short and too ridged. I would like to have two cords instead of the small converter. I keep my drive in a gadget pouch so I can easily keep up with everything. I could see the converter getting lost or left in a computer. These are minor compared to the speed, size, and portability of this drive.

    Small but mighty!!!

Recently had an issue with a WD passport 1GB external drive and wanted to have a faster, more reliable backup drive for my new iMac running OS Mohave 10.14.6. Upon plugging in to the thunderbolt port, it immediately appeared on the desktop. Upon opening Time Machine I was able to chose the new SanDisk Extreme and execute the Time Machine backup. The xfer speed did not show during the process but it completed backing up a little over 600GB in four hours. It is much smaller than I expected which makes it very portable. I definitely recommend!!!!

The Scan Solid State Drive is a great purchase. My laptop SSD got close to its limit. This drive seems very rigid, it light and very impressing that it can hold 1TB of data. My intent is to use this SSD for quick access requiring applications. The USB-C is also a plus since it can access the data faster. Good investment.

I bought this after a 2TB G drive I got on Amazon failed on me the first day. It has been reliable and close to rated speeds consistently. I think I am done buying important electronics from Amazon! I lost a lot of images through this.

I love the small compact SSD Drive from Sandisk. I showed mine to a friend and he plans to get the same one. 1 tb is right for me right now for my 512g IPad Pro 2019.

Amazing drive, but you MUST format it

The drive itself is amazing. It's tiny, light, and fast as hell, truly living up to the promised 550 MB/s. That said, if you plan to use this drive for anything other than movies, music, and pictures, you need to format it before using it. This is especially true if you plan to use the drive to back up your phone or computer. Out of the box, the drive is formatted with exFAT and an allocation size of 1 MB. That means that any file less than 1 MB takes up 1 MB of space. 1 MB may not seem like much on a 250 GB-2 TB drive, but with the myriad of small files that show up on backups taking up 1,000x more space than normal, it adds up. See the attached pictures for a small text file taking up 2,700x more space than it actually is and a 177 GB backup taking up an extra 73 GB on the drive. I mention this because it's an easy fix. According to the command line, the sector size on the drive is 512 bytes, meaning there is no reason to have an allocation size that large. All you need to do is format the drive as exFAT and select a smaller allocation size than 1 MB. Microsoft recommends 128 KB, but you could go as small as 4 KB or as large as 256 KB and still be far more efficient than the factory 1 MB allocation size.

Couldn't ask for more or better...was a life saver

Life saving as it enabled me to save all my files from a lifeless PC. I needed a new drive to download all my files, etc from my deceased PC. Could have gone with a standard hard drive but having upgraded all my PCs from Hard Drives to SSDs, I will never return to Hard Drives. I had only 104 GB used of 238GB available space on my dead PC’s SSD but needed a much larger SSD for everything else to be salvaged from my PC. This Sandisk 1TB SSD now has only 160GB free of usable 931GB. I am using it as a portable backup to my both my main & travel PCs which will be handy for the next time I need to transfer to a new or resurrected PC. Being a SSD, it is quieter than a mouse is never hotter than warm has a heavy duty although very short connecting cable that keeps the drive quite stable at my PC’s side. It has a rubberized coated casing which helps keep it dry, stable and somewhat cushioned. It has a sizable pass-through hole in the case top I presume for attachment to something else. I’d not like having this dangling from my key ring though! I not only like it a lot, but find it thoroughly useful and easy to slip into my pocket for transportation. Also it is a Sandisk product! It’s priced very reasonably for a SSD and I’d highly recommend this to anyone needing a very portable external backup/Solid State Drive.

This mighty and tiny drive is perfect for offloading large files and libraries from my MacBook. After months of remote learning I had amassed gigabytes of video files on my computer. I didn't want these to take up the space on my laptop nor did I want to lose them in case I need them for next year's students. I was able to quickly connect this to my laptop, format the drive to the right type, and very quickly copy over nearly 40GB of files. It took longer to learn how to safely move files than it did for the files to transfer! This lightweight drive can travel anywhere with me so I know my files will be available in the blink of an eye.

    A Great Storage Option

It works quite well and what's there not to like? The capacity is more then good enough for what I'm using it for and I can access the files quickly. There's no worries about moving parts and is not as fragile as a portable hard drive, and a lot more compact. It's seems to be well constructed and feels solid. I think it would be a nice feature to have some type of plug or filler that could be installed in the port to keep out dust and dirt as your carrying it around. Other then that, a good unit and a good price when you can get on the Deal of the Day. Paying regular price is a bit much but I'm sure the prices should come down some more over time....hopefully:)

I only buy SanDisk SD cards for my cameras because of their reliability. Since I've never had an issue with any of my SanDisk products, I decided to buy this external SanDisk SSD. It has given my computer new life as the boot drive with all my software installed: very fast startup, programs launch quickly, and everything about my computer is so much faster and more responsive! There is a slightly more expensive version of this SSD that is about twice as fast (NVMe type), but your computer will need a fast USB C 3.2 input to take full advantage of it's speed. This version is still very good and cheaper.

SUPER fast and also SUPER small. With this supporting USB 3.1 Gen 2 which most drives are not yet unless you spend an arm and a leg so it has the best speed at a good price. SSDs are honestly too expensive and a lot don’t have USB 3.1 Gen 2 which is why this is so great!!! It’s full Gen 2, is waterproof and shockproof, has a slot for a hook for safe carry all while still being the same price as SSDs without the USB 3.1 Gen 2, Waterproofing and such so you can’t go wrong with this for MANY reasons. Use it for your Extra PS4/PC game storage, use it as a travel storage for photography or production it’s a good investment if you need anything like this

Very light and very portable. Make it easier to carry it around with plenty of storage. Bonus about it is that this can be use with IPad Pro 2020 because it’s usb-c which mean large storage at your hand. Reasonable price for SSD BUT the write and read speed is pretty low for a SSD. If you want SSD with around 1,000 mbps in write and read speed then you will need to purchase pricey sibling.

To be honest I wanted a USB Thumb drive when I made this purchase. Thankfully due to stock and a sale price match I purchased the 1TB SanDisk Extreme. All I have to say is wow it is so much faster than the Thumb drives. This of course makes perfect sense as its a Solid State Drive. Yes its bigger than a thumb drive but this thing is made to be strong and handle anything you throw at it, and to be honest its really not much bigger than a thumb drive. The connector is genius since you just have to pull off part of it to use USB-C 3.1 interface, or add on the connector to use the old USB-A 2.0 style connector. Yes it achieves its promised connection speeds, which after dealing with all the boasts from thumb drives, that are so far exaggerated, that only in an ideal one sec perfect moment they are true. Yes i recommend this. It is very fast and built to take a beating.

Palm sized sleek design. Works great for storing photos and other documents. When traveling and doing photography I was using a conventional external hard drive but was always worried of a possible failure and loss of the photos I had taken. With a solid state drive you are not 100% safe but are in a much more reliable situation since solid state hard drives have no moving parts that could fail.

I bought this scandisk external memory primarily because of its small size, lightweight and portability. A type C which is compatible with my gadgets. It is fast looks durable hopefully it will last a long time. I intend to buy another one with a higher capacity because I liked its design. It's much better if they will reduce the size of it more and include a case.
