I bought this for external storage, for some reason I wasn’t able to use it. Neither my laptop or my PC where able to ready, my camera can but not any PC I’ve tried which has been 4. I also used it on a Mac and it worked there but I don’t own a Mac. Not the store fault.

The SanDisk Extreme 1TB portable SSD is an excellent external drive solution. Whether you are backing up media files, accessing files on your usb-c equipped phone or tablet, or are wanting an external drive for your XBOX One, the SanDisk Extreme is very easy to recommend. On Windows and Mac, the drive is plug and play. The included cable has a USB-C to USB-A adapter. I would make sure to use it on a USB3 port, though. I created transfer tests on multiple computers shuffling around 10GB files. Compared to external hard drives that rely on 5400 RPM physical disks, the NVME portable produces unmatched results. You can copy huge files to and from the drive in a matter of seconds. In my experience, data would transfer three times as fast as the more traditional external drive. The device feels solid. It has a rubber grip to it and it's tiny. Unlike back-up drives with older, platter based drives, this device is smaller and less prone to losing data in the event of bumps or drops. With this drive, you can place movies, music, or files and then access them from your Samsung / Android tablet. I could watch movies on my phone from the SSD. And because the drive is relatively small, I could easily slip this in a travel bag for commutes. Whether you are browsing photos or editing documents on the go, the Extreme 1TB drive is simple and easy to use. I tested the drive on an XBOX One. Newer games require faster transfer rates and the traditional external hard drives often don't keep up which can lead to texture pop-ins or stuttering cinematics. I didn't have any such problems with the 1TB Extreme. Games loaded in fast. Now, you currently can't use an external hard drive for X-Box One Series X games, but for XBOX One or Xbox 360 games, this hard drive is super fast. If I had any complaint, it might be worth while to invest in a longer USB 3.2 cable with a USB-C connector. The cable that comes with the drive is just a couple of inches. It's very short. I would take a 1TB drive with this speed and durability over a standard external drive for traveling and performance needs, but if you're wanting to back-up your computer or archive photos, an older drive that isn't as fast might realistically be a more economical solution. That's the tradeoff you have to weigh, but outside of those scenarios, I think this drive is a clear winner. It isn't much bigger than a thumb drive. It's faster and won't take up as much space in my bag. I really like this drive, and I whole heartedly recommend it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don’t usually write reviews, but the SanDisk Portable SSD truly deserves recognition. From the moment I unboxed it, I could tell this wasn’t just another storage device—it’s a game changer. The design is sleek, compact, and built to withstand real-world use. I can slip it into my pocket without even noticing it’s there, yet it feels durable enough to handle everyday travel and work demands. What impressed me most is the speed. Transferring large files feels almost instant—whether I’m moving high-resolution videos, massive project files, or backups, it handles everything effortlessly. It has completely changed the way I work on the go. Reliability is another highlight. Unlike bulky hard drives I’ve owned before, this SSD is whisper-quiet, shock-resistant, and gives me confidence that my data is safe wherever I take it. In short, the SanDisk Portable SSD is more than just storage—it’s peace of mind, speed, and style combined. If there were awards for portable drives, this one would take the crown. Highly recommended for professionals, creatives, and anyone who values their time and data. F H Foyez New York

If you're anything like me you've learned that SSD is the way to go on a PC, especially when it comes to PC games. Once you've used an SSD then you will never want to go back to a regular old mechanical hard drive. So the idea of installing internal SSD drives are likely something many of you have already done, much like myself. However, there comes a time when you really need a portable SSD drive on the go and that is where the Sandisk Extreme drive comes into play. Receiving this drive it looks a little larger than one would expect but it definitely seems very, very rugged and my guess is it would be able to withstand a good bit of playing rough by dropping it before there would be any sort of real issue. It just seems like it is a very tough case that it is in and offers me real peace of mind for taking it on the go on the occasion when I travel for work. The drive comes already formatted and setup and ready to go. All you do is plug it in and begin using it. If you don't have a USB-C port there is an adapter included to use the old style USB-C port but realize you are losing a lot of your speed. Once you get it up and going the only real software on it is Sandisk security for encrypting the drive contents, which I chose not to use since I have nothing of a confidential nature on my drive. Moving on to actual use: now I am no professional video game player or content creator but one thing I do like to do is play PC games and stream, albeit just so that my friends can join in to see what I'm playing. And this drive has done an amazing job in keeping up with streaming to the drive both in real time and for saving it for later use. I've been using the drive on and off now for playing and streaming games and it seems like it's super fast, I've never noticed any slowdown in any regards and it's been reliable as ever. I think this is a great drive for gamers and professional content creators and streamers, especially for those who are on the go at times and want something really rugged that can stand up to being moved alot. I applaud Sandisk for this product and happily give it a five star rating. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This thing is tiny!!!! I have been wanting a portable SSD. Not to use as a main drive for backups but, given the 1TB of space I have been able to use it as that and a go between for my files and others files as well. It is quick! Given it being an SSD and USB-C that much is expected. I love that I can toss it in my bag and not have to worry about it! My only gripe is I wish that the cable was longer *that may cause an impact in performance I guess?* or something was included like a stand so it wouldn't put a bunch of tension on your USB port depending on the layout of your PC. Laptop users need not worry though! It sounds like you've found an incredibly handy portable SSD! The combination of 1TB storage and USB-C speed makes it perfect for your needs, whether for backups or transferring files on the go. Its compact size is definitely a big plus, making it easy to carry around without any hassle. I can understand your point about the cable length. A longer cable or an included stand could certainly help reduce tension on the USB port, especially for desktop PC users. It's great that laptop users have less to worry about in that regard.

Small, fast, ample storage. What more could you want from a portable SSD? This SanDisk Extreme ticked all the boxes for what I was looking for. It has a read/write speed that covers almost any task you'd throw at it and it's nearly microscopic size means you can truly take it anywhere. My only gripe, while very small, is that SanDisk did not include a longer cable. The cable is 6 inches at best and makes using it on certain computers more difficult. Luckily, it's USB-C and cables are cheap and readily available. It would only affect those who don't have extra cables on hand.

If you're looking for a fast and convenient storage option, look no further. This is portable SSD is extremely fast. I was able to copy over 8gb of videos and photos from my internal SSD on my laptop to the SanDisk drive in under 20 seconds. I was very impressed with how quickly I was able to transfer the media. I'll be using this to transfer large files between my home and work. It's a nice sized drive too, slightly smaller than a credit card in width and height, and just slightly thicker than a usb plug. It also has a nice soft-touch on one side, and a textured side with the SanDisk logo. The drive itself has just a single port, which is thankfully a USB C. An adapter cable is included to go from USB C to A as well. Overall, this is a fast performaning, small and extra-portable drive.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet (unlike some of my more 'novel-like' reviews), because this one is easy! The new SanDisk Extreme 1TB NVMe SSD is just about as perfect as you can ask for. It has all these things going for it: 1. Small and Light: Easy portability. A smidge bigger and heavier than my 2018 SanDisk Extreme 500GB unit but not by much. 2. Rugged: While small and light, it has a solid feel to it. Much better than my 2018 unit. Continues to have the great rubberized coating, so it doesn't slip out of your hands, and outstanding dust/moisture resistance. That being said, I don't think I'm going to be tossing my important files around, but nice to know I could. 2. Speed: More than twice as fast as my 2018 unit. I've attached screenshots of the speed tests but in actual use it seems much faster. I did an entire Time Machine backup with this drive and it wrote the 487GB of photos, videos, and documents in about 24 minutes. I can't do a direct comparison with the 500GB unit since the whole reason I got this 1TB unit is because I'd be pushing max density on the other drive. But even when it had less files I could go have lunch and come back and it would still be going before. Now that may have a little bit to do with macOS Big Sur finally supporting APFS but I still think it is much more attributable to the NVMe memory in this drive. 3. Value: I know this thing isn't cheap but for the speed, portability, and ruggedness, I consider this to be a great drive at a very good price. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone who needs a wicked fast external drive for their photo, video, or other critical files. You can't go wrong with the SanDisk Extreme 1TB NVMe drive.

I am a bit of a data backup junkie. I have been using a variety of desktop and portable hard drives for years and am never without a flash drive in my pocket. Another thing I don't like to do is pay a ridiculous markup for additional storage on my mobile devices. This handy device solves both issues for my elegantly. With a smaller footprint and more rugged than traditional portable hard drives, this drive is super easy to pop in the pocket when going out the door. I often use a tablet as a display/controller when shooting with a tripod mounted camera and with this drive I can create a local backup or completely offload the images and videos as I go without the need for an internet connection, a nice feature when photographing outdoors. This drive has made it very simple and faster than cloud based solutions when moving data between my PC, android tablet, and Chromebook laptop. Where it really shines for me is the ability to use it with my android tablet, which I could not do with my old portable HDD. I tested the drives speed against a portable HDD I have been using for a year or two with my laptop. I transferred a 21 gb photo and video file from my PC to each and the Sandisk SSD was about a minute faster. Not huge. However, on the other side, reading files (especially the videos) was noticeably faster on the Sandisk, with HD videos loading and playing right from the drive with no jitter at all. The design feels light but solid and it has a nice non slip coating on the back. I doubt I would ever clip it onto a pack or anything with the built in hole in one corner, but it speaks to the intent that this would be a go-everywhere device. It says that it is dust proof and water resistant, but there is no integral plug or cover for the USB-C port which would seal up the internals nice a tight. If I were to take it into an environment where I might be expecting extra dusty or wet conditions were a possibility I would try to cover this exposed area. Al in all I am very happy with this drive as a really handy way to lug around a lot of data in a relatively rugged package, and its already been quite useful to me.

I already love the SanDisk Extreme's small form factor and water resistant shell. I've had the smaller 500 GB version for a while now. The 1 TB is barely any bigger than the 500 GB with twice as much storage. It has a ring in the corner where you can connect keys or a backpack clip if you wish, and because it's SSD, it's very fast and has no moving parts. It really is perfect for traveling. Stuck at the airport?- Hundreds of songs on my SanDisk Extreme. Long flight? - Movies on my SanDisk Extreme. TV at the hotel is in a language you don't speak? - TV Show seasons on my SanDisk Extreme. Going overboard taking photos on your trip? - Push all the photos over to your SanDisk Extreme and free up room on your camera cards or phone. Waiting forever for the next, bus, tram, train or taxi when you travel? Waiting to check-in, check-out, board, disembark, pass through customs? - Audiobooks on the SanDisk Extreme I can do all of this, PLUS download the contact directory for a 1500-person agency and keep copies of important memos and documents from work, and be able to handle an emergency from the other side of the world. With 1 TB of storage you can do all of that with room to spare. At home, I use 14 TB and 10 TB external drives for storing a complete library of music, movies and audiobooks. When I want to move content from one drive to the other, I use the SanDisk Extreme to move the content. The SSD makes the transfer MUCH faster than transferring directly between two platter drives. I really can't recommend this drive enough. The only way to improve it is to keep going bigger (on storage-not size).

So in the few days I've had with the drive and testing it, I have to say, for an external solution, it's a joy to use. It's also very small, it's really not all that much bigger than the USB 3.0 SanDisk Extreme drive I have pictured. For sake of longevity I haven't written too much data to the drive, though I've used some software to test it. Your results are going to vary quite a bit depending on the cable you're using to connect to the drive. The included cable, which I wish was much much longer, it's only about 4 or 5 inches in length will allow you to use the drive to its maximum cabability. In the images I've attached to this review, two of them are using the provided cable. The ones with over 900MB/s Read and Write's are with this cable through a Gen 3.1 Type C port on the back of my motherboard. I was also able to replicate the performance on another HP computer with a Type-C on the front panel. For using the included USB 3.0 to Type-C adapter, you can expect a maximum of 450-460MB/s. This is due to the limitation of the USB 3.0 ports. When using Type-C to Type-C 3.1/3.2 cables you can easily get close to the rated speed of the drive. I didn't ever get 1050MB/s but I got fairly close with the 980MB/s in the screenshots. I used CrystalDiskMark with a write size of 64MB and also used ATTO Disk with a 64MB write test as well. The ATTO test was with the adapter, as was the slower CrystalDiskMark test. If you're looking for an excellent fast option for external storage at a good size for a not so crazy price, this is an excellent option. The particular drive that was used at least in my unit was a Western Digital Blue SN550 drive. In the desktop NVME variant's these drives are capable of hitting as much as 2200MB/s. The drive itself is of very good quality and carries that reliability that Western Digital is known for. This would work well for just needing a large drive to install programs or games on, or even for keeping media on if you need to take it on the go. definite reccommend for large, fast portable storage.

Need some fast storage on the go? No problem, SanDisk has you covered! This 1TB NVME SSD is the real deal with +940mbps read and write speeds! Best thing about it is it won't overheat on you either. This drive works perfectly and comes in a very small footprint that allows you to take it practically anywhere. Performance wise, this thing obliterates conventional portable HDDs. Was able to transfer over 20GB in a fraction of the time it would take on a 5400rpm HDD (took ~40 seconds on this NVME vs 5 minutes on HDD). Its literally plug and play on Windows/MacOS (though some formatting may be involved depending on the OS). Playing games off of this thing is actually quite good, i've not ran into any issues with installing Fortnite or Apex on here and playing (not very surprising considering the speed this drive offers). If using this little drive on the PS4 Pro, it does quite an amazing job as well. I've noticed considerable improvements over my portable 1TB HDD which would yield long loading times. One thing to note, i have a 1TB SATA3 SSD in my PS4 Pro and because the PS4 Pro does not have USB 3.2, it limits the full potential of the read and write speeds this NVME SSD provides but nonetheless it is still a huge upgrade compared to HDDs. If you are looking for a portable drive and you need speed, i cannot recommend this drive enough! It is simply the best and most portable option out there!

Let's start off by saying I needed something easy/foolproof (not some crazy format/interface i'd have to get used to or deal with file type conversions), reliable (doesn't make my files go poof or disappear or decide to quit working randomly), secure (could put a password on certain files or the whole hard drive), light weight, portable, and with a reasonably large amount of storage. SSD is the way to go when choosing between SSD and other standard hard drives. It is durable to a point and won't break with frequent use as long as you make sure you don't plug it in while your computer is charging, keep it cool (some heat is generated when using and that is normal), and don't drop it into a blender (or leave it in an autoclave) so treat it like you would most tech devices. I am a loyal Mac user and my college uses PC predominately, so I needed an external hard drive that could safely save and store files and have them in a format that would transfer well between Mac and PC and some various educational and lab software and not have to constantly deal with file type conversions. I also needed this to handle a vast amount of school files, internship files, and personal files and wasn't a pain to haul around or worry about it getting hacked. It is small about the size of a deck of cards but slightly thinner and fits in the palm of my hand, clips onto my keyring, and came with both a usb and usb-c connector (idk if it works with lightning connectors or iPhone/IOS storage haven't tried that yet) but it has managed everything from Microsoft Word Products to Apple Pages products to videos, audio recordings, pictures, CAD files, Texas Instrument Calculator Files, Apps and Programs I rarely use, etc and has been amazing. For the average college student and person I would say its a perfect backup hard drive but for me and my excessively large files it makes a wonderful portable flash drive! I hate paying for cloud storage and I like my digital data in a more tangible form.. so far it has saved me money. In my 90 or so days of use it has been phenomenal!

I am very impressed with this external SSD. When I read that it was NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express), I knew transfer speeds would be very good, but how? NVMe drives are usually reserved for PCs with an M.2 slot on a motherboard, and that translates to extreme speeds. Turns out that when you pair an NMVe with the latest USB3.2 gen 2 standard, it's not a bad combination! Just to get the nerdy stuff out of the way, USB3.2 gen 2 is rated for 10Gbps, which translates to around 1000MB/s. That has got to be the fastest thing I’ve ever had the pleasure of using out of an external drive. To give you context, you can move a 20 gigabyte file to and fro in 20 seconds!! There are some caveats… The host that you’re connecting to must support USB3.2 gen 2 as well. Typically USB Type-C is associated with these speeds, but some hosts will only support USB3.1, which will not get you those top speeds. Perfect examples of this are my test cases: a Samsung Galaxy Chromebook, a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and a custom PC. Each device was able to easily detect and use the Sandisk Extreme. The Chromebook supports USB3.2 with a USB-C port, and I was able to see file transfers go balls to the walls. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, although a USB-C port, only supported USB3.1 and I was getting half the speeds. Finally, my custom PC did not have a USB-C port, so I had to use the included adapter to USB-A in order to connect. Moving to USB-A obviously brought the speeds down to USB3.1 specs. I know SanDisk makes a non-NVMe variant of the Extreme and pricing could possibly be lower, so it’s really up to you to either figure out what devices you currently have and if they support the latest USB3.2 gen 2 standard and go from there. You can also approach this from a future-proofing standpoint in the event that you end up buying new hardware that can achieve those transfer speeds. The drive itself is on the compact side with a rubbery back and a textured front, and the unit feels very solid to me. It has a loop to allow you to hook to carabiner or a safety tether, but you can get creative with it. SanDisk claims some level of water and dust resistance, and that’s actually a very great feature to have if you’re out and about. I think SanDisk hit it out of the park with this all-in-wonder of an external drive for the speeds and the tech that we can attain today.
