Just upgraded my laptop from a 7200rpm HDD to this SSD! Now I'm enjoying quicker boot time, quicker app launch & even quicker refresh in desktop :P. Well, this is my 3rd SSD & 1st from SanDisk. Installation was straight forward on my HP Envy M6-k010dx sleekbook (an AMD A10 machine). One noticeable absence is the lack of cloning software in the box. But, I learnt a very important lesson about cloning software by installing other SSD's. I find myself comfortable using "Macrium Reflect" for cloning, which free, very very easy to use & very fast. All you have to do is connect the new SSD with the computer with a SATA cable, run the software & about 10 clicks :P. BTW, read speed of this drive is very impressive. I got 548.9 MB/s sequential read & 376 MB/s sequential write. Its a GREAT drive, highly recommended!

I have yet to dive into the world of Solid State Drives. My first step was to purchase an inexpensive SSD with enough space for my operating system and programs to run on it. I have a few other hard drives, 2x 500GB, which the Maxtor 500 is in the PC with my new SSD , but for storage only. I have tested it yet but I've noticed that Windows loads almost instantaneously. After I enter my password 5 second later I could be on Chrome or running some type of app, where as, with the HDD's, it seems like it took a few minutes of loading things before I could browse around my computer. 4 Stars, because the price for quality seems to be very fair. With SanDisk, they are probably my go to brand when I don't wanna spend a whole lot but I want a decent amount of memory. The 4-stars is because it came in a packaging that basically says what the actually SSD says or is printed on. SD SSD Plus, but I didn't get a disk for a driver or programs to determine the status of my drive. I didn't even realize that there was not a space in my Tower (it's a few years old) to install it, and even if it had a place for it, the SSD didn't come with screws of cables either.

FreeNas uses "Trim" by default and this drive can't operate properly
In FreeNas . The silicon motion controllers used for trim generate
The following error...
One or more devices has experienced an error
Running version 11.2-U7
I'm still leaving a good review as this brand has always served me well. I'm sure this drive is fine for other operating systems.

Using this drive for an Ubuntu 16.04 system with 64 GB RAM, and a TITAN V card running CUDA, CuDNN, tensorflow, and Keras in a machine learning environment and for experiments in artificial intelligence. The drive works well and has been totally compatible with this setup. System running 24/7 mining ethereum when not used for machine learning or artificial intelligence.

I purchased this on sale for a price that seemed too good be true. After running a few tests, I realized it was. I upgraded to a 3.1 Gen 2 UASP enclosure to get the full speed, and while it shot my read speed up to almost 500MB/s (from the 300s), writes remained at sub-mechanical speeds. The overall write speed is hard to gauge since it's inconsistent in tests, sometimes averaging 150MB/s, other times as low as 30MB/s. The drive obviously has a defective write system, but I do not want an exact replacement. This was less than $50 for a reason.

Purchased this for an HP Omen gaming laptop, had a standard mechanical style HDD inside, replaced that with this SSD that held enough for me to have my OS with a quick boot and a few video games, this is a business laptop for me, not a primary gaming system. I did the installation myself, although if you’re planning on swapping your hard-drive, consider you will need to have a way to get Windows back up and running once the new Drive is installed.

Good SSD For Older Systems

I had recently purchased an SSD for my old desktop PC and really loved the effects it was having on it. So, I decided to purchase another SSD for my older laptop but wasn't going to be getting the previous SSD because it didn't come with cloning software, which was important for the laptop. After reviewing several SSDs, I came across this one and noticed that this model comes with Acronis True Image. There are free alternatives but the quality of these free options vary and can easily fail during cloning, leaving you with a bigger issue to resolve if that happens.
Now, in order to clone the HDD to the SSD, it requires and external connection, which BestBuy doesn't carry in most stores. It can be found much cheaper online. I had the cable from my previous SSD, so I was ready to go. For those that are new to SSDs, the way you decide which one to get depends on your current HDD. Basically, you have to get an SSD that will be able to clone your current HDD and still have over 20% of storage space free.
For laptop owners, one of the first things you need to do before doing the cloning process is make sure that the laptop has the charger cable plugged in and secured to the outlet, if the laptop loses power during cloning you run the risk of losing all of your content in the HDD. Not really an issue if you have backed up the system or have the OS CD, but if you don't be careful. After insuring that the laptop is fully powered, connect the SSD using the external cable to the laptop and format the device. After, install the SanDisk dashboard, which will have the Acronis True Image software on it for download. One thing I learned when I did this and contacting SanDisk support, the download might fail a few times, but continue doing it and it will download properly. SanDisk support stated that it can take up to 4 attempts at downloading before it actually goes through, so keep that in mind. Once finished downloading the Acronis software, just follow the easy instructions to begin the cloning process, in all, it should take anywhere between 25mins to 45 mins in my case for the cloning to be done. At that point, begin with actually installing the SSD into the laptop, be sure to remove the battery and drain all the energy. Make sure to be in a static free zone, you can easily fry any components.
Overall, the process of setting up the SSD and installing is very simple. I'm not tech savy but was able to do it, just be careful. Believe me though, it is worth it. The performance you get from switching the HDD to the SSD is night and day. My laptop is older but I maintain it very well, still, with age, the hardware does begin to slow down. To give reference, with the HDD, from powering on the laptop to having it get to the desktop and run all the background process would take about 3mins, I timed it before installing the SSD, with an additional 2 mins to load up an internet browser at times. 5 mins before the laptop was ready for actual use. After the SSD was installed, that drastically changed and went to 35 seconds to boot to the desktop and load all background apps with another 5 seconds to load into any program or web browser. Needless to say, the performance gains was something that I'm more than satisfied.
Sorry for the long review, but I like to be thorough. As for the device itself, it's good quality. Not the same as my previous SSD, that had a tin case, which this SSD is simply plastic. Not a big deal but for those that love sturdy builds, this might not be for you. As for the read and write speeds, it's not the fastest but still better than any HDD. Also, for those that are installing this into a desktop PC, especially if it's an older one, depending on the type of Sata ports your PC has, you might not get the best performance out of the SSD. It doesn't matter if this is Sata 3, if your PC is Sata 2, you will only get Sata 2 performance. Still, like i said earlier, the performance gains will be noticeable regardless if the SSD is being connected to older hardware.
One last thing before ending my review, this is more for people who don't know, once you install the SSD, make sure to turn off Disk Defragmentor from running on a weekly basis. Defragmentor is only for mechanical HDDs and if you let it run on your SSD, you will cause issues with the SSD. As to what to do with the replaced HDD, if it's still in good condition, convert it over to an external HDD by buying a case for it. Never a bad thing to have extra storage.

The perfect "Pick-Me-Up" for older laptops

I offered to buy my nephew a new laptop as grad gift. He's a practical guy and said his laptop isn't brand new but "it does the job". So, I decided to give his laptop a little "pick-me-up" before his college classes began. After replacing the HDD with this SSD and the difference in performance is incredible. He says the laptop is running better than it did brand new. And increasing the storage space will definitely come in handy for his college assignments. He uses the original hard drive for additional storage or as backup. This item is so exceptional in value, I also bought one for my mom's laptop since she wanted to transfer photos from 3 old cell phone to her laptop. Her laptop took about 4+ minutes to boot up prior to transferring the photos (yikes!) After replacing her hard drive with this SSD, her laptop booted up in less than 7 seconds! This SSD will breathe new life into your computer.. You wont be disappointed!

EDIT: Alternative free cloning software: "AOMEI DISK Backupper". In order to do clonning, you'll have to share their software on any social media (facebook, google+ or twitter) & copy/paste the link of your post. Yeah, annoying, but hey, its free! And its a very clean looking & user friendly software. Thanks.

I love this drive. It took my 7 year old computer and made it feel new again. While I have done fresh OS installs before on my system, adding this drive took me down to a 20-30 second startup. I'm trying to keep only OS files and App installation files on this drive to keep it free for better performance, and it has been great. I highly recommend this affordable upgrade. Pick up some additional RAM while you are at it if you're looking to upgrade an older system.
