I bought this to replace the hard drive in my laptop. The SSD seems to work fine. However, I have not yet been able to get the SSD's firmware updated or clone the contents of my existing hard drive so that I can replace the existing hard drive with this SSD. I have the SSD mounted in a SATA Hard Drive Docking Station as an external hard drive connected to my laptop via USB. For some reason, in that configuration, the Sandisk firmware updater available from Sandisk's web site does not seem to recognize the SSD as a Sandisk product so it will not update the firmware. My laptop can find and read the SSD when mounted in the docking station; but, the firmware updater insists that there is no Sandisk product connected to the laptop. I have also not yet succeeded in using the Acronis software available from the Sandisk website to clone the contents of my existing hard drive to this one. The Acronis software recognizes the SSD as a Sandisk or Western Digital product (unlike the firmware updater) and appears to clone the existing hard drive's contents to the SSD; but, when I mount the SSD in my laptop, the laptop will not boot into Windows 10. It is possible that the docking station is the issue. If I do figure out why the firmware update and cloning were unsuccessful, I will revise my review to include what steps it took to make everything work.

Used this SSD to replace the WD Blue HDD in my Lenovo laptop. I wish SanDisk would include instructions for doing this. After some online research, downloaded the excellent free AOMEI Backupper software to clone and shrink the larger 1TB HDD to this 512GB SSD. It took about 2.5 hrs to clone 200GB data using my slow USB 2.0 SATA enclosure. But this way I did not have to reinstall Windows 10 or any other software. As a precaution, I disconnected the laptop's battery before doing the transplant. Only tool needed was a philips head screwdriver and a plastic guitar puck to pry open the laptop case. Before buying the SSD I had used the HWiNFO program to verify that my laptop supported SATA III interface to get the full benefit of SSD 6Gb/s speeds. But I was still surprised to see my laptop boot instantly and all programs load several times faster. I also installed the recommended SanDisk SSD Dashboard software for monitoring the health of the drive. Next project - add the 1TB HDD as secondary storage by replacing the DVD drive with a SATA HDD caddy.

INSANE Upgrade to PS4 Pro Performance

Replaced my PS4 Pro's stock hard drive with this. Took a hit to storage space to get the benefits of SSD. I imagine my opinions on this particular drive extend to any of SanDisk's SSD options, so if you want more storage, opt for the 1 TB version. I have seen absolutely dramatic improvements in load times after installing this in my PS4 Pro. Couldn't recommend it more highly. Have tested load times in Warframe, Bloodborne, and Horizon Zero Dawn, and all have been cut down tremendously. Wish I would've done timed tests with the stock drive before removing it so I could give exact numbers, but it's definitely noticeable. If you are thinking of improving load times and minor performance issues with your PS4 pro, this is the best way to do so. I was worried I wouldn't find the switch worth it, but after two days of gaming, I'm super happy with my decision. If you have a regular PS4, DO NOT do this upgrade. The regular PS4 does not have SATA III capabilities, and cannot fully utilize the functionality/benefits of solid state. You'll see some improvement, but not enough there to make it worth your while.

Made my son's potato of a laptop start acting fast. Went from taking minutes to load Windows and like 40 seconds to open a browser, to booting very fast and the browser seemingly to open instantly. This saved me having to replace the computer. The old hard drive was a 5400k rpm drive that had a read speed of 32 mb/sec, this SSD is registering as being 324 mb/sec. I decided to try this out to see how it'll work out. Once I received, I cloned the disk to this SSD, took about 4 hours for 350GB of data plus additional partitions. Popped this baby in the laptop and bootup time was 10 seconds. That was fast, and the login to launching firefox/chrome took an extra second. Shutdown is astoundingly fast as well. I've always been impressed with SanDisk SD cards, as I use it for my Canon cameras as well, but the SSD for my laptop, it made it 100 times better.

    Comparison to Sandisk SSD Plus

As a disclaimer, I no longer buy Sandisk SSDs after a couple bad experiences with failed drives that Sandisk would not accept warranty on. I don't recommend the brand overall. But if you must buy Sandisk, I've been using a pair of these SSD Ultra drives in different computers for about 4 months now. I had previously had a bad experience with the lower-tier version of this product (Sandisk SSD Plus) which failed after 3 months at low-moderate write. This disk (which has been exposed to significantly higher write load) seems far more durable than the cheaper version- that's what you're paying for. Otherwise they perform about identically. So if you want to save a few bucks now, but pay for it later when your drive fails prematurely, get the SSD Plus. If you want to save yourself some headaches, go with this drive. Or better yet, go buy a Samsung, which are much more reliable at a similar price.

Installed SSD this in an ASUS laptop and boot time and application load times were substantially faster than with the standard HD. Installation was straightforward. Using cloning software required a download from the Sandisk support site. The software will also adjust partition sizes if your existing boot HD is a different size than the one you are installing. To clone as your laptop boot disk, you will need a USB-SATA adapter to temporarily connect the SSD to your laptop. For a desktop, you can install, clone the boot disk, then configure the desktop to boot from the SSD. You can also d/load a Sandisk utility to manage the SSD from their support site. Overall, good performance and good value, especially when on sale.

I bought this hard drive to upgrade and improve my 2009 iMac. This is the best investment of $100 I have every made. My computer had slowed down so much that I was going to buy a new one. But this hard drive brought it back to life and the computer is faster now than when it was brand new. There was absolutely no problem in doing the upgrade. The stock Apple operating software allows you clone the old drive without downloading any third party software. The only warning is that you need to buy a SATA to USB cable to clone your hard drive. I paid $9 on Amazon for the cable. It has been more than a month and I am completely thrilled with the results.

This SSD was installed on a 3rd generation i5 HP desktop bought in early 2013 (2012 release) along with an older graphics card and RAM maxed to 8GB. The HP boots quickly with no need to keep it on all day (power drain) to be able to sit down and go. It is ready in seconds. No longer a work machine, the HP is perfect for reading the news, playing solitaire or Sudoku, and web browsing. For fun I also added Ubuntu after carving out a 40GB partition. No problem there either. I highly recommend these drives to anyone who will listen. Prices are quite good right now. No reason to wait on slower technology from a time when the Internet meant AOL dial-up.

I acquired a late 2012 macbook Pro for free, even though it runs great with original equipment i thought that i would try an SSD to see how much better it would perform, considering that i now only have $80 invested in this beast it was an easy decision. I have to say the speed is remarkable. Just loading a webpage from start is mili seconds compared to the loading circle of death from before. I haven't done any benchmarks to speak of but i'm sure they would blow me away. Installation was a breeze, I used SuperDuper! to clone the SSD, it took about 15 min. I suggest that no matter what laptop or desktop you have, if you have a regular HD upgrade to SSD, you will think your computer took steroids.

This Solid State Drive is just what you need to get an old PC or laptop to speed up on boot up, when copying files and general performance overall. This drive put new life in a PC of mine along with an adapter plate, cutting boot time in half on a Win7 Ultimate installation. For a laptop this can be a simple plug-n-play installation with the most difficult part being the restore or reload process. For a PC an adapter may be needed to secure the drive in the case. I've converted many computers to SSD from a spinning hard drive and this is an awesome product to do just that. I've purchased many SanDisk SSD's and have yet to have one fail in 3+ years. It is my go to brand and the price point is awesome.

Sandisk SSD HD 512GB. I’m using this hard drive as a storage device. I’m connecting to my 2017 27” iMac using a SATA to USB cable. I trust this set-up more than any other storage device set-up such as a portable USB HD device. Yes, you must format the disk when you first connect to the Mac. This hard drive is as fast as my internal SSD. It is all plastic and weighs almost nothing. That is a very good thing. Every Sandisk product I’ve ever owned still works perfectly, including all of my Compact Flash cards (some of them are 14 years old), SD cards, micro SD cards and USB flash drives. That’s why I bought this Sandisk HD. I’m very pleased with Sandisk and this SSD.

If you can, always go with the SSD. I bought this to use as a second internal disk in an aging MBP. With a optical drive caddy it replaced the disk burner and held a backup and even a bootable version of Windows. Though the MBP didn't last too long after this the drive itself is quite useful still as an external drive to a different system. Transfers are great and read speeds are good. For a startup drive I suggest getting the largest one can and having a larger capacity HDD externally (or internally if you can get it) for everything else. That will give you all the capacity you need and the better speed.

I have an old laptop from ASUS which I bought around 2012 while I was in Hawaii. This laptop was an excelent tool form y work up these days. But after stop using it I saw that the keyboard stopped to responding. Instead of thinking in buying a second laptop I decided to upgraded it so I bought a replacement keyboard and a new SSD to replace it's current HDD. At the same time I change my OS from Windows to Ubuntu 16. The change was amazing. The laptop has a new life, faster than ever even with only 4gb of ram. Honestly, buying this SSD was the best purchase I made for my laptop so far.

Solid state hard drives make pc's much faster. My wife complained her HP laptop took forever to startup and very sluggish. I know I could spend time and money cleaning program's and partitioning her computer. I had cloned a new solid state hard drive on my personal desktop and found a huge improvement in performance. So I knew what to expect when replacing my wife's hard drive from old fashioned mechanical to solid state. I was not disappointed! My wife is now very happy and that makes me happy. The price is a little steep but doing this is like buying a new computer!

Bought my HP 17" laptop about a year ago from another retailer. After struggling with slow performance and reaching out to support multiple times, i finally decided to upgrade to an SSD drive. i know it seems like an exaggeration but it would take almost 2 hours to make updates to excel spreadsheets that should only take minutes. Anyway, now i operate on my laptop as one would expect. i believe the SSD came in a smaller size but i went with the 512GB. Best Buy Geek Squad also transferred my files successfully and had my laptop ready the next day.

In all MacBook Pros newer than 2010 and iMacs newer than 2009, this should work beautifully. Do check whether your Mac uses the Nvidia chipset for the hard drive controller; such old Macs can;t use modern SSDs like this one. Why? These SSDs are 6G speed and the old Macs only know how to deal with 3G SSDs; if they encounter a 6G SSD, they'll only run at 1.5G speed (and you won't be happy). But, if your Mac is newer, this SanDisk works like a charm (at 6G speed) and will probably double or triple your Mac's speed. This is an inexpensive upgrade (for PCs, too!).

This is a no-frills SSD drive as there's no bracket or cloning software but on the other hand, it's inexpensive & performs well. As for durability, we'll see .. so far in a few months of use, I have had no issues but I'm told that TLC type flash drives (like this) are not as durable but the better types (SLC or MLC) will cost far more and for your average home use may not be worth it. Regardless of what you go with, it's always good to backup your drives and especially the important files as all SSD drives at some point will fail as well.

This was more of a repair than it was an upgrade. I was having problems with my 4 year old mechanical hard drive, and decided that the time was right for an SSD. The pricing on ssds have made them approachable walked into the store, purchase it to get home migrated my data and installed it. My machine is so much faster that even thought it would be. I know that should have been the case I'm still surprised. It's remarkable how much difference there is between the performance of an SSD and a HDD. It was indeed the bottleneck in the performance of my high performance machine.

I purchased this SSD to speed up my HP Envy laptop which had a 7200RPM drive in it. My windows now boots in 9 seconds from the time i turn on the machine to the time i have to login to windows. This is compared to the 2 minutes it would take before... So very happy with this purchase. I also have been able to stress test the drive and it does get the 500MB write per second on this drive. So this drive performs exactly lilke they say it should. So you couldn't ask for a better drive! Definitely a good purchase!

My computer was dead slow and one of my friends suggested me to get Sandisk SSD. I was skeptical cuz I always believed this how much my computer could perform but after installing this my computer unbelievably fast. Windows updates used to be the worst and now this drive gets that done in 5 secs. Yes, I ain't kidding. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is experiencing a slow compute overall.
