    Good SSD; but...

I bought this to replace the hard drive in my laptop. The SSD seems to work fine. However, I have not yet been able to get the SSD's firmware updated or clone the contents of my existing hard drive so that I can replace the existing hard drive with this SSD. I have the SSD mounted in a SATA Hard Drive Docking Station as an external hard drive connected to my laptop via USB. For some reason, in that configuration, the Sandisk firmware updater available from Sandisk's web site does not seem to recognize the SSD as a Sandisk product so it will not update the firmware. My laptop can find and read the SSD when mounted in the docking station; but, the firmware updater insists that there is no Sandisk product connected to the laptop. I have also not yet succeeded in using the Acronis software available from the Sandisk website to clone the contents of my existing hard drive to this one. The Acronis software recognizes the SSD as a Sandisk or Western Digital product (unlike the firmware updater) and appears to clone the existing hard drive's contents to the SSD; but, when I mount the SSD in my laptop, the laptop will not boot into Windows 10. It is possible that the docking station is the issue. If I do figure out why the firmware update and cloning were unsuccessful, I will revise my review to include what steps it took to make everything work.

    Comparison to Sandisk SSD Plus

As a disclaimer, I no longer buy Sandisk SSDs after a couple bad experiences with failed drives that Sandisk would not accept warranty on. I don't recommend the brand overall. But if you must buy Sandisk, I've been using a pair of these SSD Ultra drives in different computers for about 4 months now. I had previously had a bad experience with the lower-tier version of this product (Sandisk SSD Plus) which failed after 3 months at low-moderate write. This disk (which has been exposed to significantly higher write load) seems far more durable than the cheaper version- that's what you're paying for. Otherwise they perform about identically. So if you want to save a few bucks now, but pay for it later when your drive fails prematurely, get the SSD Plus. If you want to save yourself some headaches, go with this drive. Or better yet, go buy a Samsung, which are much more reliable at a similar price.

This is a no-frills SSD drive as there's no bracket or cloning software but on the other hand, it's inexpensive & performs well. As for durability, we'll see .. so far in a few months of use, I have had no issues but I'm told that TLC type flash drives (like this) are not as durable but the better types (SLC or MLC) will cost far more and for your average home use may not be worth it. Regardless of what you go with, it's always good to backup your drives and especially the important files as all SSD drives at some point will fail as well.

I am happy with this purchase. I originally bought it to replace the 128GB SSD in a hybrid computer as recommended by the salesperson. When I got the computer opened it would not fit to replace the 128GB SSD so I replaced the 1TB HDD. It does run quieter but now I wish I had bought a 1TB SSD since I ended up replacing the bigger HDD. Since it was not used for the boot drive it did make install a breeze with no need to reinstall Windows. I would recommend it.

Does what I bought it for. Installation of Win10 was easy and fast it crapped a faster word for faster and fastest, fastesterstertesmucho`gusto`zilla! I would say it's made a 2010 core i5 m 450 w/ only the Intel Graphics De-cellerator and a max amount of 8GB DDR3 where just 256MB of it can be used for graphics. The SSD is likely the most optimal part. I only use the laptop as a hub and lite browser.

I have a laptop with and M.2 SSD for main drive and a 2.5" disk drive for storage. The Sandisk replaced the disk drive. Very speedy and fine for everyday office use. I do access the drive quite often because of how I have my directory structure. Recommend based on Sandisk reputation and my past experience with two other Sandisk drives that I never had a problem with.

I bought this drive as a replacement for my MacBook Pro hard drive. I couldn't get my MacBook to recognize it. I tried it on a Windows machine and couldn't get Windows to recognize it either. No real help from the directions. Eventually Windows recognized it and then when I moved it to my MacBook, it worked there as well. Once I got the computer to talk to the drive, it worked beautifully. Very quick.

I bought this ssd for use in our family computer.....and All-In-One touchscreen. Hasn't been that much quicker than a traditional drive on this computer.......probably would do better on a faster unit. Still more fond of the PNY drives for cost/performance ratio....yes, even over the Samsung drives.

For the price point, these are good drives. They wont set any speed records but will still outperform a traditional hard drive and give older pc's and laptops some extra snap. Using mine as a transcoding drive for plex so we will see if it outlives the warranty as the reads and writes in transcoding really torture an ssd.

I'm always a little concerned when it comes to compatibility with iMacs. I cloned the mechanical drive I was replacing, plugged this in. Held it in place with some double sided tape (brackets are available but special order ones for iMac, standard ones won't work.) and voila, everything worked.

Overall it is a really great SSD, I highly reccomend it for upgrading from a HDD or just looking to add storage to your PC. If you are looking for the fastest SSD speed available there are still better options (Samsung 970 PRO EVO M.2 NVME drive for example).

I have purchased several SanDisk SSD's over the years and have never had one fail yet. Performance is good for the price. When I need raw performance I tend to turn to Samsung or Intel drives. Nothing wrong with it when the prices are good

Don't expect industry-leading performance, but it does work well. I have not had any problems since installation. It will deliver a huge performance boost over an HDD and can make your old PC feel brand new.

Waited til my old school drive crashed before finally making the move to SSD, and I will never go back. Boot times are lightning fast, seek times super fast, and all I did was change the drive out. How did we ever do anything with mechanical drives?

My computer runs so much better after installing this. It boots up from off in almost no time. It was very difficult however to get my old hard drive copied over to this...no good software/directions provided.

The samsung software didn't recognize this disk. I used acronis to load it. Once that was done, it works fine, but is a little slower than I expected. I have a samsung 860 evo drive that feels much faster.

My wife's HDD was performing poorly on her laptop impacting every part of the machines opperation. Cloned the old drive to this (same amount of space) and popped it in. It's like a brand new computer now!

An SSD will improve your computer boot speed and program access. This is not the fastest out there but it is fast enough to make a difference if you still have only a HD. The price was good and it is working well.

I've now used these in 6 of the 8 computers in my house. Most computers boot within 20-30 seconds. The other 2 computers are using Samsung 850 EVO drives and are equally as fast but were slight more expensive.

I do not have a direct comparison to other SSD but I think this one is excellent and just as fast as any for the average user. I believed I could not go wrong with SanDisk as I have all ways had good luck with there products
