Purchase this one because I needed it for the new Apple M1 laptop that basically needs another gadget to function. With the HDMI cable plugged in, this can get really hot to touch. Everything else works fine.

Does More Than MFR Specs Say It Should!

My main goal was to use for a 3 display setup, utilizing the laptop display and two HP 23” 1080p displays. My laptop supplies one HDMI output and the Satechi 7-in-1 supplies the other. For my daily use the Satechi definitely has me covered for whatever I need. The plus is it helps me condense my accessories since it has an ethernet port as well; I won’t need to carry that separate accessory. Just using the HDMI port on the adapter the aluminum housing has a warmness to it. Not hot, but noticeably not cold either. Some things you need to consider: -USB-C port is Power Delivery only (meaning it is only for charging), it cannot be used as a Display Port or Data Transfer. So if you are needing the USB-C port to be more functional, you may need to look for another adapter to meet your needs. Product page states it can handle 60W charging...this would be INPUT. It does not state that, but Thunderbolt 3 spec INPUT is 100W, but OUTPUT is 15W to USB peripherals. So, if your laptop only has 1 USB-C port and it is used for charging, then the Satechi 7-in-1 will allow you to use the USB-C port for charging. -Make sure you have good HDMI cables. Some older ones I had laying around would not work with the USB hub, even though they worked with my HDMI port on the laptop. I have Monoprice 4K cables and they worked just fine. -USB-A ports do not support charging or CD readers, including Apple SuperDrive. We recommend connecting one bus-powered device at a time. That last point is copied directly from the manufacturer product page. So it can be taken as you cannot use a CD reader or charge via USB-A. Also, don’t use more than one bus at a time. I am not too sure about all of that because if you can tell in my pic I have four ports being used and I am not having any issues and the device did not gain much warmth over what I noticed when just using the HDMI port for 3-display setup. Four ports being used: 1. Ethernet 2. USB Flash Drive 3. USB-DVD Writer 4. HDMI Now, I am not outputting anything 4K, and was only moving small folders of ~250MB at a time, while playing the DVD, streaming audio, and typing this in Google Docs. So not sure if Satechi is trying to cover their butts here or what? If indeed they only recommend using one powered bus at a time...HDMI, Ethernet, Micro/SD, USB-A, USB-C...then why buy this 7-in-1. I have used countless hubs in the past that didn’t have these limitations. You’ll have to decide for yourself on how you use your device and maybe their recommendation is based on what type of USB-C port will be supplying the hub. I listed my below, so if yours is less, then maybe it will put more strain on the hub and then run into overheating or reliability issues. The recommendation still makes me scratch my head if this thing can take up to 60W input though...which input and output are not equal, but it still has to be designed to take the heat of 60W input. Again, decide for yourself. I can confirm it won't do data transfer via USB-C, may laptop showed charging via USB-C 65W adapter (tested after taking the pic), but I also could not get it to charge my phone. So it would appear that the USB-C Port on the hub is for INPUT charging only. My setup: -Asus ROG Zephyrus G14: USB-C 3.2 with Power Delivery, DisplayPort, and G-Sync -MonoPrice Slimline HDMI 4K cable -Dual HP 23” 1080p Monitors -LG Slim DVD-Writer -Sandisk Cruzer 8GB USB 2.0 I don’t have any complaints on this device. The aluminum chassis is nice and the Space Gray looks good. It being very slim and streamlined it definitely fits into a bag easily. For cable management I kind of wish the HDMI port was on the other side, just to clean-up the wires and give a little more spacing on the side, but its meant for productivity and it does do that.

    Premium Multiport Adapter

This multiport with Ethernet adapter is excellent and contains the ports most frequently used. When I use my laptop at home or work, I use ethernet because I want a fast and more stable network connection. This hub has high throughput, and it was designed this way to connect many devices at once. Surprisingly, I haven't encountered any performance issues when I use this multiport at home, work, and on the go. It is excellent for transport, is small, lightweight, very thin, made of aluminum, and solidly built without any misaligned ports. The build is extremely premium and looks like it will not break very easily, which is good if planning to use it everywhere. The ports are all spread apart to leave enough room to plug thick cables/connectors. A tiny LED light lights up that lets you know the hub is getting power (in use). The HDMI slot allows up to 4k at 60hz support, and it works as expected. When working at home, I connect my monitor to the hub to extend my laptop display. The USB-C pass-through power (60 watts) feature is great for devices that use type C power cable, and the setup would be to plug the computer power cable into the hub's type C port which the power will go through the hub into the computer. When using the pass-through power, the hub does get warm, but not extremely hot. I have used all of the ports at once and did not notice any decrease in performance. Note that it can handle only one portable hard drive at a time. Overall, the performance of this hub is excellent and contains all of the standard ports you would need to connect to a computer.

    Really Useful Device

The USB-C Slim 7-in-1 Multiport Adapter by Satechi is a super handy device. Today’s laptops are so thin that the manufacturers have removed most of the inputs leaving us with no ethernet capability and few USBs. My last two laptops only have a couple of UBS-Type C inputs which require adapters to plug most of my devices in. This is where the 7-in-1 Multiport Adapter saves the day. Here is what you get: 2 USB-A 3.0, 1 USB-C (for charging), 1 4K HDMI output, 1 Gigabyte Ethernet Port, 1 Secure Digital card slot, and 1 Micro SD card slot. All of this is housed in a metal enclosure that measures roughly 5 ¼” by 1 ¼”. The cord measured to the end of the exterior portion of the plug is about 6” long. Why do I need this? This device simplifies several of the adapters you’d have to carry into one device. If you travel much, this is a must have. Using the multiport adapter allows you to plug in your USB-A laptop hard drives, USB drives, and other memory cards using the same device. If you want to export your screen to an external monitor there is a 4K capable HDMI port to use. If you like the consistency of using an ethernet cord instead of connecting to open Wi-Fi, use the gigabyte ethernet port. It is a really useful product. It’s important to understand that this uses the power from your computer to run, so there are limits to powering other devices from it. Also, if I could change two things about the adapter, it would be the length on the cord and the way the ethernet port expands to accommodate the plug. The cord is pretty short, so it leaves the items you are plugging in close to the machine. As for the ethernet port, the end pops up to accommodate the size of the plug. While I had no issues using it, I do wonder if that would ever break. I’m sure that they made it this way to make the adapter smaller. Overall, this device is so useful that I am giving it 5 stars. If you travel much at all, this is a really handy product to take with you.

Must have for the new generation USB-C laptops

I recently got a new laptop that features USB-C as the only connector on it. This brought up an interesting point and issue to the forefront - I have too many USB-A devices, and barring one monitor, almost all use HDMI or Display Port. How does one connect your new laptop on the go and still keep your sanity? Well, this Satechi USB Type-C Multiport adaptor fits that bill. It has 2 USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a MicroSD and SDXC card reader, an Ethernet port, and the ability to use it to charge another USB-C device up to 60W max. So problem solved? Well not quite. It seems the USB-C port adaptor can only run one hard drive at a time via the USB-A due to power usage, and while it can do 4K on the HDMI, the port bandwidth while using an external hard drive, you do sometimes see artefacts. Beyond that, the USB-C port on the adaptor is kind of useless to me as it’s a charge only port. I appreciate the Gigabit ethernet port on the end, which works rather well. While it’s rare these days to need a gigabit ethernet (especially when wifi is so ubiquitous), the fact that you can plug it into a hard line is handy. So should you get one? YES! While I would have liked the cable to be folded back into the device for easy storage, it is not much of a bother. It is small and compact and you really need one cause those darn pesky USB-A devices are everywhere, and until we get more USB-C devices, we will need a USB-C to USB-A adapter.

The Satechi USB-C 7-in-1 multiport dock packs lots of capability in a very small package. It has two USB Type A (2.0 or 3.0) ports, HDMI, USB-C, SD, SD micro, and Ethernet ports. The USB-C ports lets you charge your computer via the dock. I tested this Satechi multiport dock on a late-model MacBook Pro, and it worked well. This adapter is small and sleek, and easy to take with you if you use your computer away from your home or office. It has a matte space gray finish.

This Satechi USB hub is well constructed and stylish. The hub is metal and solidly built. There is no "creaking" to it at all, and it feels very premium. The hub has 2 USB type-A ports, a USB type-C power port, a full-size HDMI port, a micro-SD card slot, a full-size SD card slot, and an ethernet port. The ethernet port is one of those with the hinge that pops out. I found it to be very VERY stiff. I worried that I was breaking it trying to get it open. My one complaint about the construction of the hub is that the cable is too short. I prefer to have my hubs sitting flat on my desk or flush to the device (as opposed to dangling in mid-air). This one can't quite manage that. I also wish that it had another USB type-C port for data. I'm in that awkward state where about half of my devices and flash drives are USB type-A and half are USB type-C. I'm quite happy with this hub, and I would recommend it to anyone needing more ports.

The 4K HDMI port takes presentations and entertainment to a whole new level. The clarity and vibrancy it delivers are simply unmatched. It's become an essential tool for my work, providing a reliable connection to external displays without a hitch. The compact design is another standout feature. So far I am very happy with the adapter. I have very active children and pets so I preferred this over another device that looked easier to break off due to the design. Each port has worked well with the MacBook. It’s very user friendly since keeping up with all the new tech is a challenge. This adapter fits my needs perfectly. I still prefer a digital camera as opposed to a phone (higher clarity). My son likes to make mini movies stored on a mini as card and it has transferred smoothly so far. I would recommend this adapter to active and clumsy people who want the ease of use and quick and smooth transfers.

Satechi USB type C 7-in-1 multiport adapter with ethernet has 2 port for 4K HDMI, 1 USB-C, 1 Ethernet and SD Card slot. It is slim and easy to carry around. I like the space gray color to match with my Mac Book Pros. At a price around 70$, it is not too expensive because some of them are over 100$ for the same brand. I used 1 HDMI to TV and the other USB-C to monitor and both are okay to show up in high resolution as it supposed to be. I was not using the 2nd HDMI port so I don't know it can show up 3 monitors yet. It has SD card reader so it is useful when one's MacBook computer has no SD card slot. I would recommend it to anyone due to its price and usefulness.

This won't be the most complicated review because this isn't a terribly complicated product. I have a 5K Thunderbolt monitor that I use with a Mac and a PC and it's great to be able to swap between the two laptops with a single Thunderbolt 4 cable. The monitor and both laptops are void any ethernet connection, and the there are only 3 USB-C connections on the back of the monitor. The Satechi works great as a way to add ethernet to the monitor that's passed to the laptops and allows me to add a SD card and a few extra USB-A ports. The charging capability of the USB-A ports aren't enough to say power an iPad Pro, but it's more than capable off powering mics and web cams and other accessories you may need. I couldn't be happier with how this turned out!

Bought this to provide needed ports for a new MacBook Air M1 (which has only 2 C ports). Using this to connect an external HDMI monitor and for hard-connecting ethernet when I'm WFH (as opposed to WiFi out in the wild). Device is light but seems well-made, is solid. Been using for about a month now, with no issues. Gets just a touch warm to the touch, but not concerning. I've read this is typical, and others out there have a LOT of complaints about heat. Overall, this does exactly what I bought it for, is working exactly as expected - am happy with this purchase.
