Excellent Product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a little biased because I tend to always use Satechi products. I use them though for a specific reason. They make high quality products at affordable prices that work...they work really well. I want to quickly highlight the best part of this product. It has a discrete USB-C cord that is slotted into the top of the device. To remove it you just take a finger and slide it out of the device. Then you can use the USB-C cable to connect to a computer/laptop. It is such a small and brilliant detail that makes this portable device fantastic. It has Thunderbolt, USB-C, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, SD, Micro SD, USB 3.0 x2. Connection is easy and portability is brilliant. The fact that I don't have to worry about another cable in my backpack just makes this a seamless fit. I have been testing this on a MacBook Air and connected to my monitor flawlessly. I love this product and I really recommend it highly.

Works very well to expand a short-ported laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's very difficult now to get a laptop computer that has enough ports to satisfy the needs of even a casual user. As laptops have gotten smaller and more efficient, makers have also shrunk the available outputs and inputs for many units, leading to an explosion in options for hubs, dongles, and other extensions. After reviewing this Satechi model, I can recommend it highly, but it has a couple of minor drawbacks. The primary drawback is that once you’re running the hub with lots of slots being used, the draw on the computer’s battery is considerable. This hub is marketed as a “travel” model, so that may be significant. When running my unit with the hub plugged into the computer, I used the hub to add a monitor, a usb wireless keyboard and mouse (via usb a dongle), an sd card, a thumb drive, and then I plugged my phone into the usb c charging slot (only one of the usb c slots has power delivery). In 30 minutes of use, the laptop battery kicked down about 20%; moreover, the battery estimate of total operational time was only 3 hours with this setup. I unplugged the unit and refreshed the computer. Running by itself, the laptop had 9 hours of batter estimated to remain. So, cutting operating time by 1/3 is a lot, but arguably the biggest drain was charging the cell phone via the hub. One should still be able to run a computer and use a host of slots for an entire afternoon presentation or conference call, depending on the computer of course. *Also please note that this unit DOES NOT supply power to the laptop. It's not a dock, it's just a travel hub. The other drawback may be the selection of ports for some users. I think while this is a good selection for me, others might want more USB C ports, or a charging USB A port. One helpful element though, is that the unit comes with an extra c-to-c cord. This can be used to plug the unit into your laptop, or it can be used for things like connecting your phone to the charging port. My phone, for example, came with a usb a to c charging cord. Having the c-to-c cord lets me use the charging port for the phone or a tablet. Albeit, the charging is slow, but it isn’t terrible. It’s a good deal faster than the usb hub in my car, for example. The bigger question would be: are you a user that would prefer two HDMI ports rather than one HDMI and one VGA? For me, it’s actually useful to have the VGA. For many, I am guessing it will not be. The other question is how much use one will get out of a wired ethernet port. I think this could be useful in hotels or other places where you may not want to, or be able, to jump on wifi. That said, the application is limited. I cannot use a wired ethernet connection at home or at work with my current setup. But, that said, if you really want to have nearly ever base covered, this unit is pretty darn good. I really like that it has micro sd and full size sd. I use both sizes in various devices. I also like the multiple usb a and usb c options. With a powered connection and this hub, it’s really not hard to plug into almost anything (except two HDMI monitors at once). Operation: Everything worked as expected out of the box. As soon as I plugged it in, the computer (a windows machine) recognized the hub and instantly could use every port I could test (I could not test the ethernet port). It had no problem with multiple ports engaged. The monitor function worked perfectly, and as soon as I had the monitor plugged in, I was able to use it as a second workspace and drag windows onto it from the main laptop screen. Instantly, this really helps optimize workspace and works great when you want to be able to use a screen plus the laptop screen. For example, I can video conference using the laptop camera and screen, but still read my notes and consult documents on my monitor without hassle. I had one glitch, one time where the keyboard seemed to not talk to the computer when the computer had gone to sleep. I could not wake up the computer with my usb keyboard when the wireless receiver was plugged into the hub. I don’t know if I will have this problem on a regular basis. I had a similar problem, once, using the usb keyboard with a MAC and no hub, so it may just be some other wonky issue. Finally, I’ll admit I was slightly worried that the hub would fry my computer or not be up to snuff in its electronics, as I did not know this brand. This seems to be an unfounded worry. The build quality is good and operation is as it should be. The unit is small and easy to carry as well as still large enough to do everything you need. Would one truly use it for travel? I’m not sure, but given that my windows machine has only two usb c ports, one of which is usually taken up by the power cable, this hub is a real must for me.

Functional and portable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been wanting to setup my laptop as a secondary workstation and possibly even considering replacing my desktop at home, but I know I’ll need adapter to support the extra USB’s and monitor ports that my laptop currently lacks but wanted something more than just a bulky docking station as I move around a lot. The Satechi multiport adapter looked like just what I needed. First off, the instructions are quite bare and don’t really explain anything. They tell you what the ports are and that’s about it. It was quite confusing trying to understand the PD port and understanding the video options, which are better explained on their website. It comes with 2 USB C cables, one is built into the device and can be removed which is very nice, and a longer one which is separate, but there was no power block which was pretty disappointing. You can add a PD charger up to 100W to it. Luckily, my Chromebook had one which I was able to test with while connected to my laptop. It showed the PD was connected but didn’t show my battery was charging, but it was slowly charging because the percentage would slowly increase which was nice. I guess they expect you to have your own since this is more of an add-on device and not a charger. I also tested it out with my Chromebook with the same results, but the PD charger seemed to charge it just fine which is of no surprise since I was using its native charger to plug into the adapter. Next, the video. There is where it got interesting. The simplest way for me to explain this in bullet points: - VGA only allows to duplicate your PC screen - HDMI (non-4k) allows me to have an extended screen option with my PC - When both VGA and HDMI are connected, they duplicate with one another but can act as one extended screen to my PC - 4k HDMI would not work without VGA connection, only worked when VGA was connected. Non-4k monitor on HDMI worked fine without VGA though The adapter also adds additional USB ports which is really nice. My laptop only has 2 USB A and 2 USB C, so this doubles them. I was able to access my portable USB HD and peripherals to it and everything worked great. The form factor of the adapter is really nice and sleek. Its small which is great for portability, and it always has that extra USB C cable in it if you ever need. Memory card slots and Ethernet adapter is the icing on the cake. Overall, I think it’s a good device but I deducted a rating because of the limited included instructions and the fact that the 4K monitor only worked when VGA was attached, but I would still recommend it. Seems most ideal for Chromebooks and tablets that you would like to expand their functionality and port options.

An excellent, if expensive, USB-C hub
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This 9 port USB-C on the go hub is the first Satechi product I've used, and has been a really great introduction to the brand after some initial confusion. Before receiving the product, I checked out Satechi's website and tried to get a better understanding of what I'd be getting. To alleviate some confusion from the product description, the three points that I wanted to make are: 1) The USB-C port for charging DOES provide a data connection, but only at USB 2.0. This is different from another USB-C hub I have that supports PD, so it's a nice bonus if you have a hub for your keyboard and mouse, for example. This could go great with some new USB-C monitors with KVM built in. 2) The USB-C data port does not support alternate mode. It isn't advertised as such, but this is kind of a bummer. 3) The VGA port and HDMI port will mirror each other - you cannot use this to add two monitors to a PC. Again, this isn't advertised that it will, but I wanted to mention it. As soon as you plug a monitor into the VGA port, it drops the resolution of the displays connected to the hub to 1080p/60hz. In practice, this does everything I would expect and adds significant versatility vs the less expensive hub I had been carrying in my bag. Having ethernet and VGA on the same device means I don't have to carry two extra dongles. A huge win for the Satechi 9 port hub is that it includes two USB-C cables. One is a short ~6 inch cable that has internal storage built into the hub (it hides inside the hub when not in use--- even less space in your bag!). The other is a 1 meter USB-C cable for more versatility in connecting the hub. Overall, the only downside to the Satechi USB-C 9 port hub is that it is a little pricey compared to other hubs. That said, none that I have seen (including one that I've been using for the last year) have all the features of the Satechi in one device. I think it's a smartly designed product and deserves a look.

Did not work with Ultrawide screen and iPad Pro M1
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I could not get the HDMI connection to work with my Samsung Ultrawide screen and my iPad Pro with an M1 chip. I was able to use the same HDMI cord directly plugged into a Mac just fine. I was also able to use another adapter, so therefore I am certain the device was not compatible. Had to return

Satechi 9 in 1 Multiport Adapter - Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recommend this product. The Satechi USB-C 9-in-1 Multiport Adapter is everything it is advertised to be. With an iPad Air (2020-4th Gen) I've tested everything except the SIM card reader. USB-A, USB-C, USB-C charging, Ethernet, HDMI, VGA all work as expected. The iPad Air I was using doesn't support dual monitors (doesn't have an M1 chip), so it only mirrors the display. What I really liked - In addition to the all in one functionality, the unit is very small, smaller than my mobile phone. A nice feature is the short USB-C cord stores in the unit itself, so for most uses, there isn't a need to carry a separate longer cord (which comes in the package) What confused me / concerns me - Using the Ethernet cord only and running a SpeedTest.net, SpeedTest would abort the test suddenly with an error. Other times connecting Ethernet worked fine. So I don't know if this is an issue with IP address resolution, or what. Using the browser, I could get to websites, mail, etc. with no problem.

SAY HELLO TO MY NEW LITTLE FRIEND!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Satechi USB-C ON-The-Go Multiport is my new friend. If you have a drone, camera, memory sticks, and/or need a variety of display options or need a network adaptor for you MacBook or pc device... THIS IS FOR YOU! The adapter is quipped with 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A 3.0 ports, an ethernet port, HDMI video out port (up to 4k), VGA output (up to 1080P), and a SD/MicroSD card slot. This thing is packed with everything! One of the USB-C ports will also charge your MacBook or device which is displayed with a lighting symbol or can work as a regular USB-C port. The adapter also comes with two cable options included with adapter. There is a typical USB-A to USB-C cord which is perfect if you typically use this at a desk or wont be moving it much. It also is equipped with an on board USB-A to USB-C adapter which pops out right from the device. Super cool. So far I have been keeping the normal cord connected at my desk computer and then disconnect when I take my MacBook with me. I don't have to remember to bring my cord because its already onboard with the adapter and I can throw it right in my bag without 2nd thought.

good multiport portable adapter
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does what is advertised, all the ports work, just ensure you know the design limitations of the product. All my devices which I connected to this multiport adapter worked with the USB-C port on my notebook, including passing through 4K video to a single monitor, as the specification note, don't try anything above a refresh rate of 60mhz. The short USB-C to USB-C cable tucks back into the unit for storage, however a longer cord is also supplied with the unit. Network. The ethernet port functions and appears to support gigabit connectivity. There are some limitations with the VGA port (such as only passing HD video and not being able to extend your desktop) however I did not find this to be much of a hindrance. The inclusion of a SD & Micro SD card slot is super useful for transferring photos and video from media from my camera to my laptop. This type of device is increasingly important as laptops and notebooks become slimmer and more compact. My new gaming laptop has nothing but USB-C ports and a proprietary connector, so this is just what I needed for when I travel. Pros: does everything it is advertised to do Cons: rather have another HDMI port instead of VGA, but for compatibility purposes I understand why to include VGA.

Does Not Support Three Monitors
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It seems like nowadays every laptop requires a dongle of some sort, to which Satechi makes a variety of dongles to fit your needs. Unfortunately, this one seems like it is made for a very specific user and otherwise seems to be an overkill of sorts. Firstly, the build construction is great and has plenty of heft to it that makes it feel like it is made of quality material that is going to last. The built-in USB-C cable is a great feature so that you don`t have to carry a long USB cable with you when traveling. However, the inclusion of the long cable is a nice added bonus so that you can use that at your desk when not traveling. The actual use of the adapter is exactly as you would expect as it has all the usual ports you would find on all traditional adapters to which they all have worked perfectly. The one bonus that sets this adapter apart is the inclusion of a VGA port which does come in handy for government buildings or schools as many of their projectors still utilize VGA cables. However, the key downside is that even though it does have both an HDMI port and VGA port you are still unable to run two external monitors as it only supports one external monitor at a time. This is a major downside in my opinion as unless you really need the VGA port then I would recommend the cheaper and more compact models. Overall, it is a solid piece of equipment and does exactly what it is advertised to do. I just wish at this price point that running two external monitors would have been a possibility. So once again if you do not need that VGA port I would highly suggest a different product.

Great buy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the most useful little thing you can have on your desk or in your bag as you are up and running. For me, it sits on my desk and has decluttered it wonderfully. It has two USB-C ports and two USB-A 3.0 ports, the latter being quite fast. It has a SD/MicSD card slot as well. I tried the 4K HDMI output and it worked flawlessly. The ethernet port is there as well but I have not used it so far. Honestly, I cannot think of a reason for critique at this point. Its looks are nice and sleek and it has a small footprint as well. You cannot go wrong with this one. Highly recommended.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best multi-port adaptor is so useful to connect more than one thing to my different laptops and to my monitors. This device allows me to use older files that I have on older portable drives easily. No issue with heat or heat dissipation. Built solid. Quality ports and two include cables of varying lengths. Get it on sale then it is truly a steal. Look great, compact and easy to carry around.

I Am Super Impressed!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Satechi USB-C on the go multiport adapter has to be one of the best additions for my laptop I am currently using. My gaming laptop only has 2 UBB inputs, one USB-C input and one HDMI output. This adapter is a life saver having all the extra connections I need on a daily basis. Using this for my GoPro video editing is amazing. Almost everywhere you look, you see people say you cannot edit a GoPro video straight from the memory cards. Guess what, with the speed of the USB-C and this adapter, it is 100% possible and work flawlessly on my new Hero 10 and with 5.3K in 60 FPS. The HDMI Output works great as well from the laptop and I have zero issues with screen flutter or ghosting, it is at full speed and frame rate when gaming. The 2 sizes of memory card slots is great, especially for transferring data between the 2 cards. The BIGGEST feature that this has is the added GIGA-BIT ethernet adapter port. I needed this very badly as my laptop did not have an ethernet port. The added USB ports are great as well, opening up more possibilities for this laptop. The included VGA adapter will never be used personally and I do not have any way to see if it works as no monitors in my house use VGA anymore. I am very happy with this adapter and highly recommend it to anyone that needs to expand the in/outputs of any computer or laptop.
